    Same exact thing happened to me with the PET bottles. I'm a glass bottle only guy now. Great video Dr. Hans!

    I dont understundom this.
    Oxidation is because oxygen is introduced to the beer, please correct me if wrong.
    Oxygen (and everything else) can not creep into the bottle as long as the pressure inside the bottle is higher then outside. If the pressure equalizes then there wouldnt be any carbonation in the liquid (the beer). PET holds carbonation well, take for example a bottle of coke, it never goes flat unless opened. This beer wasnt flat which tells me that oxygen was introduced during the bottling.
    Once again, correct me if im wrong.

      You're wrong, that's not how oxidation works. O2 will penetrate even with the bottle being over pressure. I know it sounds strange. It did to me to.

      @@DrHansBrewery im not a chemist but i know that co2 is larger then o2 so it is possible that o2 could entet/leave the bottle even if co2 cant. How ever, if more and more o2 keeps entering the bottle wouldnt the pressure keep raising then? If o2 goes from low pressure to high pressure side then there must be some type of chemical bonds that is strong enough to suck o2 in to the bottle. There must be a chemist out there who can explain this.

      @@martinbonta1592 When oxygen enters the beer it can a) go into solution and b) react with the beer. (A) will not cause an increase in gas pressure to a significant extent and with (B) the oxygen ceases to be a gas when incorporated with beer molecules.

    Wow! I knew pet bottles were only for short term storage but I would have thought 8 weeks would be ok. I was thinking of getting some of the new kegland plastic kegs to do smaller experiment recipes and I know they are a pet nylon blend but this is making me rethink buying them. This is good content thank you Doctor.

    Unbelievable. As much as we love kegging and giving bottles away from the keg, it seams alot to be gained by bottle conditioning a couple of bottle from each brew. As you said the light coloured one had lost some flavour. The plastic bottles I would not have thought would loose that much colour. I wonder if you bottle conditioned both pet and glass side by side if that would give you a different result. Mmm interesting. Thanks Doc, another epic video. Cheers mate😎👍

    Doh! Just bought 100 PET bottles! (Coopers and Kegland) Never tried bottling beer and I bought PET because it seems easier, avoid having to buy a cap machine, lower weight when I carry bottles etc etc. 42 PET bottles (Coopers )already filled with beer from the fermenter and I'm using sugar for carbonation. I´ll let you know how this goes, so you don't have to ;) Great content. Thanks Dr.

      Yes this is just data.
      I have had great succes with PET botlles during other experiments when I stored them up to 4 weeks for example.

      The state comp here in Australia gets over 500 beers in PET and there is never beers that skunked. I would say Dr Hans has packaged some oxygen or the kegland bottles are lower quality than coopers/morgans.

    actually with good automatic plate sterilizer and filling machines , the fresh beer in PET bottle shef time could reach around 90 days .

    Wow, that is an incredible difference between the two. I wonder at what age the beer in PET bottles stops being 'good'?
    I have a few PET bottles to stay in rotation with my glass bottles, but I've never let a brew sit in them for more than 3-4 weeks, they still tasted fine to me.

      If you check my other bottling oxidation videos you will see that beer was still kind a good after 4weeks

    Great vid Mate.
    Sadly, here in Australia those nice glass bottles are more than 10 times the price of the PET bottles.
    I have heard that it is best to put the PET bottles into the fridge as soon as 3 days after filling and priming. What are your thoughts about that?

    I'd better hold on to my glass bottles to store my stouts and porters and use the PET ones for beer swaps.
    I'm surprised there was such a difference after just 8 weeks.

      @@DrHansBrewery If you fancy doing a retest, store the PET bottle in a CO2 purged mylar bag. Oxygen absorbers are used for food and they could be used too, but that's an extra expense for those of us with CO2 on hand for brewing. This approach might be good for sending beer mail and to preserve quality.

    Very interesting video. I never thought the color would be so drastic.
    What is your bottling system? I have both a counter pressure and a beer gun and I struggle so badly with wasted beer, foaming, and it’s such a pain.

    Curious. I've stored beer in PET for up to 8 months with no hint of oxidation. Maybe not all PET bottles are created equal?

      How did you store the PET bottles?

      @@DrHansBrewery The beer in question was actually a saison...so not particularly hoppy. But certainly much better beer after long storage. It was in my garage at ambient temperatures - mostly over the cooler months Autumn, Winter and Spring. Where I live the coldest Winter nights are single digit (celcius) - daytime temps during those months range from 10ºC - 20ºC.

    Excellent video again Doc. Were the bottles stored in the dark or in the light? I read that UV light causes compounds in the beer to break down which can lead to degradation and off flavours. Which is why beer bottles a usually green or brown glass. Would be interesting to see the difference between clear glass and coloured glass, stored in the dark and the light.

      The yeast might at first consume some of the oxygen that infuses through the PET, but once that's done, it seems to me, the conditions would be the same in both cases...
