I've poured thousands of hours into Skyrim, 2k, Madden and WoW through Jr High, High School and beyond, but no amount of gaming ever took precedent over life itself. I will forever miss having summers as a teen, pulling all nighters on games in my parents basement, sleeping on the couch, the basement might as well have been my room in the summer. Closest thing I've had to that was when classic released, I had hernia surgery like a week before and spent about a month and a half playing classic before I went back to work. Good times.

It was a small flash in the human experience, so small to the rest of the world it was rarely noticed... but for the people who experienced it, it was a miracle. The perfect technology, augmenting a perfect story, using new gaming techniques, with a new platform, and we all got to enjoy it. We stormed An Quiraj, toppled Naxxramas, we ended Magtheridon and then put an end to Illidan. We reclaimed the Sunwell, and departed to the frozen wastes of Northrend to end the Lich King, and we even survived the great sundering, and ended the Earth Warder. We had grand adventures, and made so many friends and enemies... but the truth is, it's all over. But we will NEVER forget.

My hub traveled for work and when he was gone I would allow her to ditch sometimes and we'd play for almost 24 hours straight, ordering chinese take-out and getting no sleep. Some of our best times together, and her best memories growing up, were these days. I mean obviously their math is wrong, but 7 hours a day is still a casual. I checked my game time report from when I was ranking in classic, and on the last week I had 9000 mins (150 hours) played in a week. Leaving 2.5 hours a day for sleep. Now if you account for falling asleep while playing and sleeping during queues, a more realistic number is probably 140 hours a week, or 20 hours a day.
That week was an exception though, most other weeks I had from 8000 to 8500 minutes played.
Now obviously that's dumb as fuck and very unhealthy, but my point still stands: 7 hours a day is very much a casual.

@@Morgwic I was just pointing out math wasn’t there strong suit lol. I agree though, when tbc classic came out, I took bout 3 weeks off work and was playing well over 100 hours a week. Then my kids and job and reality kicked in and I had to stop doing that lol. Was still fun and worth it to me.

I totally pulled an Asmons mom trick on my wife. My wife would bring her friends over to make fun of me raiding MC. One day I got her tipsy and convinced her to make a character on my account. A few days later she started calling me at work asking me how to do things in game. I knew at that point she was hooked. We both raided hard core in BC and WOTLK. Still play casually today as a couple.

Let me add a little story about myself. I started wow back in 2008, and I had a good pack of my rl pals on it, and some others we met in the game. Up till 2013, take into consideration these years I was between 17-22, and my pals 2-3y younger compared to me on average, and our schedule beside highschool/university, was mostly play wow daily, football outside, some skating here and there, rock concerts, goth girls ( decent ones, before streaming became a thing )....prolly the best years of my life, even if they werent very productive, and wouldnt change a bit, because those days gave raise to my career path, theorcrafting stats gave me insight into Qa and accounting, which pays the bills well. Too bad as with every good thing, there is also an end, 1 by 1 my rl pals dropped the game, some moved on with their lives as what kept us a thing was playing games, if I would name them today by my new standards, I would just name them hobby mates, which is fine for filling time, but not depend on an important situation. I still play the game by this day, when I am 31, but less and is no longer the same, just a habbit beside others. Good times, might come again, might not ( had a short redo during the pandemic) might be in a different format or another activity, but one thing is for sure...I dont regret anything, I owe this to the present me

We had a LAN center in my town back then. 20$ and you could play on one of their machines all day. From 12pm-12am or 12-2am on weekends. People would be in there playing WOW anytime I went in. I mean like 24/7 they played the game. It also was great for battlefield and counterstrike, RTS games, almost any game back then. It is closed down now, but it’s one of the places I sure do miss with a piece of my heart. Arena LAN Games was an epic place to have when you were in middle/high school. Damn I miss the people and experiences that place brought.

I managed to get 3k+ hours in 3 years on Guild Wars. That comes down to 2.74 hours EVERYDAY, between 2005 and 2008. When closed beta weekends came, I would blow off my friends to play instead. In 2006 I started college. Skipping classes, doing next to no homework was "normal" for me. Almost had to leave my study due to grades, but got a big enough spark up my ass to actually study and get enough points to be allowed to continue. Man, recall being in multiple guilds due to timezones and stuff. Those were the days.

I knew she only checks if the monitor is glowing if it's off this meant i am in bed. so i played WoW whole nights until sunrise and just before she came in the morning to wake me up i go in bed and pretend that i am asleep.
