The Bleach anime series adapts Kubo's manga but also introduces several original, self-contained story arcs. In Karakura Town, a 15-year-old high school student Ichigo Kurosaki becomes a substitute Soul Reaper (Shinigami, literally, "Death God") when Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper, cannot fulfill her duties after engaging in battle with a particularly powerful Hollow. Although initially reluctant to accept the heavy responsibility, he begins eliminating Hollows in Rukia's place and during this time discovers that several of his friends and classmates are spiritually aware and have powers of their own.

They don’t make it clear, but what Kenpachi said about “not sealing his sword” was misleading at best, straight up wrong at worst. That’s not how it works, he just never learned what his Zanpakutou’s name was. Even still, without his sword’s strength, he was still able to be strong enough to be a captain
Spoiler, maybe? Hard to say. I would see this comment as equivalent to talking about the dual wield swords and some details about Ichigo's shikai.
Wasn't it stated by the research bureau that they believed that Kenpachi's sword was always in its unsealed form just like Ichigo's? Obviously that was wrong but it was canon for a good while.
If you guys think this is too spoilery I can delete, I wasn’t aware of “the research bureau” or anything up until now, and I just remember way back when I watched this for the first time back when it was new I thought it didn’t make sense and that it must have been a translation error or continuity error, even before learning anything new, and just learning about other zanpakutou and how they work, it still struck me as Kenpachi’s explanation being wrong. Side note, I have not seen passed the defeat of the final boss of this and the next few arcs. I know of some stuff in the thousand year blood war arc, but I learned of that stuff well after I came to the conclusions I made this comment based on

I love how Ichigo is able to gain resolve after sensing Chad's defeat. Ichigo responds to greater pressure with greater resolve, and when he realizes that he has to carry the day he brings out the best in himself instead of crumbling under the pressure

Must have been a century since the last time Kenpachi was this happy in a fight ! That big genuine smile of a berserker !!
When you realize Kenpachi basically nerfs himself as much as possible and is still as powerful as he is: Hes the only Captain-level soul reaper stuck with a base-form Zanpakuto and can't even use Shikai, let alone Bankai, he nerfs his own spiritual pressure with an eye-patch to make fighting more fun, and he wears bells in his hair to literally give away his position to opponents and give them a fighting advantage. Not to mention he's at a fraction of his full power. Zaraki is an absolute menace lol
facts the lil kid with the pink hair is his zanpakuto in human form. facts his own zanpakjuto had his own bankai and shikai XD

kenpachi was strong enough to beat Captain Unohana and her entire team as a child without even a shikai.

Not only his zampakuto was strong enough to have a human form outside of the imaginary world they usually chat with their swords, but she's also using a zampakuto that have a shikai and bankai. Ichigo can be a hollow, human, quincy, fullbring, and all the bullshit that you want, but for me Kenpachi is way beyond that, so badass lol

I just want you guys to realize ichigo is not stronger then kenpachi at all he’s not even at half of his strength kenpachi just holds back a lot against everyone so keep that in mind
Yeah I think they realize that tbh they just said he was on par since he was able to even reach him but they noticed how he’s holding back to enjoy the fight
I mean, neither of them are at even close to 1% of their total power right now*. If they did a rematch at the end of the manga, there is a legitimate chance that they could accidentally destroy entire continents by accident.
*Ichigo in his transcendent form with his true bankai, vs Kenpachi in his bankai--I mean, there is literally nobody who could get between them at that point.

FYI The author of jujutsu kaisen did mention in an interview that his work is well influenced by Kubo Tite (BLEACH)

I would argue that he became this strong because he didn't get to rely on his zanpakuto to be strong
Chad is the luckiest guy in the world(or unlucky because he faced Kyoraku's power)...He fought one of the most logical, strategic and kindest captain in the whole Soul Society...He is wise, killing Chad would help nothing at the moment when there is a mystery around...they need info ! God do i love Kyoraku Shunsui ! Also probably one of the 2 or 3 rare captains who would not have killed him...Hitsugaya and Ukitake being the other 2 probably ?
Tousen and Unahona wouldn't have killed him either.

I mean to be honest I don't think there aren't too many captains that people don't like because they're all so fundamentally different.

hi there, ichigo and kenpachi are ones of shinigami that have the most amount of reiatsu btw and in bleach at least in these chapter kenpachi reveals to ichigo that your state of mind is what give you the power to manage your reiatsu, wich mean that kenpachi can pierce throught ichigos shikai all the way throught his chest and so when ichigo came back from the inner world of his zanpakuto he does with full trust on his sword power and that the real reason he can damage kenpachi, but when kenpachi pull out his eyepatch he is overwhelming and if getsuga doesnt tell him to trust in him to release that last attack together he might be dead on this chapter cuz ken-chan is made different
LOL! You won't even believe just how strong Kenpachi is about to get by the time the next season gets going. Strength wise he should be the strongest Bleach character there will ever be.

One has to realize that throughout this fight, even while losing, Kenpachi never resorts to using both hands for fighting. His slashing power is more than halved because of how he can't really put his entire body weight behind a cut. Despite removing one of his self-imposed handicaps, he still left one remaining. A handicap that would have finished that fight without as much as a cut to himself.

when you meet kenpachi you think he likes to fight. And then when ichigo cuts him your realize he doesnt love fighting, he lives for it.
Kenpachi with the bells and calling out attacks, wearing inhibitors, one eye covered when he can use two, He's like when you invite a friend to fight you in smash bros and let him have a few hits till your down half lives just cause you need a challenge and to be entertained as your on the back ropes...You out here purposely giving openings, having a few extra glasses, stretching in the middle of combos, not using items, lol. Then you lose and your friend thinks you were going hard the whole time.

I do not know why Zaraki said about using all his power. But in this fight, he used less than 10% of his strength, which was already at that time.

one of the things i love about this show is the idea that any sword can be broken, basically, and that no weapon has strength thats independent of the person;
there are no "magic swords", so each weapon and its strength is based on the will of the user...so when kenpachi pierces through zangetsu....its a representation of the mental battle going on... ichigo, thought he could win, but the moment he got doubt, and the moment kenpachi raised his "will power", was the moment ichigo started losing, i.e "broke his sword"....

isn't zaraki like ichigo before knowing the name of the sword. so basically the two are very similar, ichigo and zaraki just use great power without relying on any technique. before urahara teaches ichigo how to fight and Ichigo must get the name of his zanpakuto to become strong.

Kenny has a TON of spiritual energy. He’s not really the most powerful Captain, that title goes to the old man. Kenny is just unique in how he just gets stronger the more you push him and his unlimited amount or reitsu. He has the most raw power but not the most powerful
