the "beautiful old Guatemalan love song" sung by Javier to Paula translates to: "When I clean my room/I can't find anything/Where are you going in such a hurry/To the soccer game."
They asked Kelly Clarkson about what she thought of the body waxing scene when the movie came out, and she had the best, most humbled response to it, quiping with this gem: 'Forget Idol, forget Grammys, forget gold record. When Steve Carell gets a full-scale chest wax on camera and then screams out YOUR name, THAT'S when you know you've arrived.'
My mom passed away in July of 2022 and she worked as a nurse with Seth Rogen’s mom, who I believe was a nurse’s aide. This was the first movie we’d seen with Seth and mom was really excited to see it. She couldn’t stop laughing at some of the jokes for weeks after. She also enjoyed Knocked Up.
Not to be a downer but I’m gonna assume you make this comment on all the reactions on RUclips looking for attention/sympathy if it’s even true, no offense but this is the internet and I see the same comments on all the different reaction channels 🤔
"Beautiful old Guatemalan love song" sung by Javier to Paula translates to: "When I clean my room / I can't find anything / Where are you going in such a hurry / To the soccer game."
This was the first flick directed by apatow. It jumpstarted everyones career. Always watch apatows unrated version instead of theatrical. There is usually a huge difference. The unrated version of 40 year old version is a classic for the future.
Fun Fact: The waxing scene was 100% real, and it was all Steve Carrell’s idea. So everything that he and the cast members (including the waxer) are doing is genuine.
Another fun fact, the actress who played the waxer lied about her experiece to get the role. She had been waxed, but had never worked as a waxer. So she's winging it and Steve just has to go along with it.
Definitely one of the top slice of life comedies of the century in my book, with great acting and writing, a great cast, and good heartfelt sincerity from everyone, even the friends who hardly had "All the puzzle pieces" as it were. Great to see this with you both!
I absolutely love Gerry Bednob (Mooj) in this movie. He's always hilarious, but for me The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Undeclared are tied for his funniest roles. There are so many great comedic actors in this!
Great reaction! After seeing Katherine Keener in this, it makes me wonder if you ever saw her in "Being John Malkovich"? It also stars John Cusack, Cameron Diaz and of course John Malkovich. Written by Charlie Kaufman (who also wrote "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"). It's bizarre and hilarious and mind blowing all at the same time.
In the DVD commentary, Judd Apatow tells a story about Spike Jonze (director of Being John Malkovich) coming to visit Katherine on the set. It happened to be the day that they were doing the bike/car chase scene and he felt self-conscious with a "real" director on set while he was trying to do an action scene. "Hey Spike, look how I direct! I don't move the camera!"
46:35 "The song at the end is just fantastic" That would be a re-creation of the opening of Hair ("Age of Aquarius"), itself a fantastic movie directed by Miloš Forman, with Treat Williams, who recently left us after a tragic motorcycle accident, John Savage and Beverly D'Angelo. Funny, but also gripping and poignant--one of the very best musicals out there. Fantastic music, too ("Age of Aquarius", "Hair", and of course "Let the Sun Shine In")!
I love that a couple of wives showed up in the movie. Judd Apatow cast his wife Leslie Mann (of course) and Nancy Carrell as the counselor giving the sex talk at the clinic.
YES!! One of funniest romantic comedy movies ever made! The chest wax scene was done for real, and Paul Rudd and Seth Rogan wouldn't stop laughing! They broke character!😂
Only posting this because so many in the comments are off a little. They did hire a real waxer and did do the waxing scene for real. The problem is that the waxer lied about their profession and actually had no waxing experience. Therefore she forgot to add Vaseline to the nipple and that was his real blood at 15:10. I know he isn't the main character in the movie, but would love to see channels give love to The Way, Way Back with Sam Rockwell, Steve Carell, Toni Collette and others. It's one of my fav coming-of-age movies.
I love this film!! I think it is hilarious and it is also very sweet - as raw and vulgar as Andy's friends are with him, they really want to see him happy and the sweetest message of all was that good things come to those who wait. Andy was looking for true love - as difficult as that was. The entire cast was hysterical! I absolutely loved Steve Carrell in this. He was totally believable as "Andy."
Whenever I watch reactions I stop watching after the movie and skip the discussion; But with you guys I always enjoy your discussion part. You guys have so much fun talking about the movie. Great times!
I’ll never forget first time I watched this. Was in living room with just my mom and dad… popped up on direct tv and my mom goes “oh my friends said this was funny” most awk movie to watch with your folks as a teenager… still hilarious though
Fun Fact: NBC was going to cancel the office after one season, but after the success of this movie, they decided to renew it… so we wouldn’t have the office without this movie
Almost felt guilty having you 'work' on this viewing/posting, rather than you just sitting back and enjoying it and not have to worry about making commentary... but I loved it! Fun fact: after many test screenings, they trimmed the movie to a final lock. They had one more screening, it didn't matter to them so they played an additional scene not shown to audiences before, the (unknown like a lot of the cast) Jonah Hill's section holding up the disco shoes and complaining... it got one of the biggest laughs during the final test screening they had to keep it in. And the rest is thankfully history. Another fun fact: Mooj kept getting so angry/frustrated because Steve couldn't keep a straight face and kept bursting out laughing with their scenes and they had to keep cutting and redoing the scenes.
Crazy that this movie is over 18 years old now. Saw it in the cinema at the time & had zero expectations for it. Nearly lost my shit on several occasions, so funny. If you haven’t already you should watch Judd Apatows tv series from 2000, Freaks & Geeks. Sadly it only lasted one season but it is awesome
The Asian girl that did the waxing was an extra who auditioned for a part in the movie. They asked her after a call back did she know about WAXING, she didn't have a clue but said yes because why wouldn't she 🤣🤣
This movie was co - written by Steve Carrell . And the part where he gets his chest waxed , the pain was real & the guys in the room laughing wasn't in the script😂😂😂😂
I love watching your reactions to my favorite movies and shows.Try watching these if you haven't seen them yet, I Love You Man or Forgetting Sarah Marshall (my personal favorite).
When the movie was in the theaters and I saw the adverts for it, I thought it looked stupid. I was shopping in Target when the DVD first came out and I was just dating a new girl and wanted a movie to watch after dinner and boy I never laughed so hard in my life like I did with this film. Still to this day, 1 of the funniest things I ever watched
This movie got me through some dark spots. I don’t know how many times I watched this movie once I got my hands on my own copy. I’d recite the lines and laugh at how absolutely ridiculous the whole thing is. I love this movie.
24:55 The scene was improvised by actress/comedian Jane Lynch. She told Steve be ready for a song and that was about it. Which explains his genius precocious look of bewilderment thru out. This movie is an all timer. 🎵“When they tidy up my room, I can't find anything. Where are you going with such hurry? To the football game...”🎶 🎶“Cuando arreglan mi cuarto, no encuentro nada. ¿Dónde va con tanta prisa? Al partido de fútbol.”🎶 The lyrics come from a "dialog" from an elementary Spanish textbook. It was a conversation between a son and his mother...he is hurrying to go to a soccer game, but he can't find anything because his mom and aunt just cleaned the house but there's indeed a Guatemalan love song called "Luna de Xelaju" (Xelaju's Moon, pronunciation is Shelaju)
Gotta throw out I Love You, Man...a film literally about the difficulty of making friends as an adult, but with Paul Rudd and Jason Segel. Decent;y underrated.
Elizabeth Banks' film Cocaine Bear is pretty cool, well worth checking out. Also, she's been an amazing guest on the Graham Norton show and always gets really involved, helping to get the other guests on the show to have more fun, clips are on RUclips.
I went through quite the dry spell in my 20s, to the order of about 8years. So I considered myself reborn and took a bit of time with the next one I was with....and it was...not good. That break messed things up. So I can only imagine someone who was into their 40s!
I had forgotten how funny this movie is. I believe this was the first movie that Judd Apatow or his first comedy with any of these guys, his first of many.
I saw this in the theater and laughed my @ss off. Every time I composed myself, someone sitting near me would crack up and that would get me going again. 😄
@TBR Schmitt - The ‘Waxing Scene’ is so iconic, mostly because it was entirely genuine. Steve Carrell got waxed for real and his pain is not faked, and lines he shouts are actually improv. In the scene, you can actually see Paul & Seth, as well as the waxer, break out of character with genuine laughs.
The 2000’s produced some terrible films, but it also gave us some amazing ones like this one. It also gave us some incredible DVD commentaries. That’s one thing I miss about streaming. If you can, watch a copy of Talledega Nights with the commentary on. Holy shit, some of the funniest stuff I’ve heard.
Elizabeth Banks was in Seabiscuit, which is an excellent movie and a true story. Also stars Jeff Bridges and Toby McGuire. Steve’s wife in real life played the sex education instructor.
I forgot how good that movie is lol. So many greats in it. Samantha's reactions were great and so cool that it was people she liked but hadn't seen it! Excellent time thanks guys.
Steve Carrell got in really good shape for this movie. If you watch "The Office" seasons 1-7, you can see his transformation. Anyway, the movie "Dinner For Schmucks" is another really funny one with Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell.
Fun fact? Shelley Malil, who played Haziz, spent eight years in prison after this film for trying to murder his wife (he stabbed her 23 times). Doesn't seem long enough but it was California so he could just as easily have gotten a fine for incorrect use of a kitchen utensil or something.
Thx to Daniel and Samantha for another stellar reaction. It really made my day better, this movie is comedy gold. Hope the new family had a Happy Halloween. ❤
Great movie. The scene with the wax is real :) Steve Carell did it for real and swears the all time that's why they all lough :) .The ending scene is a spoof on the movie "Hair" 1979. Fyi the song Believe it or not originally from Sienfield but from a a 80s comedy superhero tv show called The Greatest American Hero It is a great tv show. Fyi The Health Clinic Counselor is Steve Caroll wife I think
The actor who played haziz went to prison for stabbing his his ex girlfriend 23 times and he was sentenced to life in prison with possibility of parole after 12 years but was released after 8. Steve’s wife plays the sex Ed teacher. The lady who waxed him lied to the casting producers and said she had waxed before so it was her first time on steve. The actress in the porn he watched is stormy Daniels who Trump had an affair with.
Yes and when Andy takes Trish's daughter to the health clinic, the counselor is played by Steve Carell's wife Nancy (who also plays a woman that Michael dates in the early seasons of The Office).
the "beautiful old Guatemalan love song" sung by Javier to Paula translates to: "When I clean my room/I can't find anything/Where are you going in such a hurry/To the soccer game."
So romantic! ♥
😂😂😂😂😂

"Feels like a bag of sand when you're touching it...." Samanthas face, haha! Great reaction as always
Clearly she's never touched a woman's breast before ;)
My mom passed away in July of 2022 and she worked as a nurse with Seth Rogen’s mom, who I believe was a nurse’s aide. This was the first movie we’d seen with Seth and mom was really excited to see it. She couldn’t stop laughing at some of the jokes for weeks after. She also enjoyed Knocked Up.
rip to all the moms who have passed you'll be forever missed
God bless to your mom And your family. God bless to all the moms who have passed or will!
That's wholesome that she was excited to see it and enjoyed the jokes even weeks later. Nice

"Beautiful old Guatemalan love song" sung by Javier to Paula translates to: "When I clean my room / I can't find anything / Where are you going in such a hurry / To the soccer game."
I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that Jane Lynch made up the lyrics based on stuff from high school Spanish. 😆
This was the first flick directed by apatow. It jumpstarted everyones career. Always watch apatows unrated version instead of theatrical. There is usually a huge difference. The unrated version of 40 year old version is a classic for the future.
Glad you guys finally watched my documentary
The waxing scene was hilarious as hell and I realized that he wearing the same shirt as Charlie Harper Two and A Half Men
Fun Fact: The waxing scene was 100% real, and it was all Steve Carrell’s idea. So everything that he and the cast members (including the waxer) are doing is genuine.
Bastard, you stole my comment 😂😂😂
Yeah, Daniel talks about this in the commentary after the movie.
Another fun fact, the actress who played the waxer lied about her experiece to get the role. She had been waxed, but had never worked as a waxer. So she's winging it and Steve just has to go along with it.
Except things he was yelling. Those were written by Seth Rogen, including "Kelly Clarkson!"
#@#@#@#
I love how Schmitt has seen it b4 but still laughs his head off 🤣🤣.
Guys seriously ROLE MODELS!!!! An all time favorite! Sam will love it 🙂
"Game face, bro!" 😂
I love you man is another great one
Classic flick. Never gets old. Great reaction y'all.
Definitely one of the top slice of life comedies of the century in my book, with great acting and writing, a great cast, and good heartfelt sincerity from everyone, even the friends who hardly had "All the puzzle pieces" as it were.

The song Jane Lynch sings is about a kid who won’t clean his room and and decides instead to run out and go to a soccer game
I love Jane Lynch in this as well as the rest of the supporting cast. Fun watching Sam enjoy this movie so much.
Jane Lynch is the MVP for sure.
"I'll haunt your dreams."

Had no clue about Treat. Just watched him in The Substitute 2.
The ending is a re-enacted scene from the play and movie "Hair"
I love that a couple of wives showed up in the movie. Judd Apatow cast his wife Leslie Mann (of course) and Nancy Carrell as the counselor giving the sex talk at the clinic.
YES!!

Exactly. Most of the time, guy friends would ruin you if they found out you were a virgin
Paul Rudd is a gem
“This is graphic”
One of the most underrated lines in any film
"That girl scares the s**rt out me!" I think was my favorite lines.
lol that line and "Get the fuck out of the road, virgin!" always crack me up.
Shirt is a swear word now?
@@abramsullivan7764 It's definitely a swear word. LOL. It's also a typo. My eyesight is fading as fast as my hearing. Nice catch, though. Peace.

If you haven’t already you should watch Judd Apatows tv series from 2000, Freaks & Geeks. Sadly it only lasted one season but it is awesome
34:40 the guy yelling out of the car window is so funny
This is such a hilarious movie! Please watch the comedy Zack and Miri starring Seth Rogen and written/directed by Kevin Smith.
That’ll be hard to edit but I agree!
@@jasonpratt3970 True, but it is probably my favorite romcom. I would be happy even if overly blurred and edited.
That scene with the Pixies' "Hey" playing always hits.
I endorse this suggestion!
I am writing this to help out tbr Schmitt and Samantha and this video and this channel with the algorithm 🥰❤️✌️☺️

Egg salad sandwiches and the word “accouterments” always make me think of this movie.

This and There's Something About Mary were the hardest I ever saw a whole theater laugh.
16:40- I always answer those calls and when they beep in say "Emergency Services, what city and state please?" and they hang up REAL fast😂
OMG I forgot how good this movie is! this is one of the best cast movies ever
As a Steve Carell fan, check out “The Way, Way Back.” He plays quite a different role, and it is a very sweet, coming-of-age story!
I love this movie.
This movie got me through some dark spots. I don’t know how many times I watched this movie once I got my hands on my own copy. I’d recite the lines and laugh at how absolutely ridiculous the whole thing is. I love this movie.
Another great ensemble comedy with a stacked cast is "This is the End". If you haven't watched it yet, definitely check it out.
24:55 The scene was improvised by actress/comedian Jane Lynch. She told Steve be ready for a song and that was about it. Which explains his genius precocious look of bewilderment thru out.

Oh god, this movie is funnny as hell!
This movie is based on a true story sadly my life 😢😭

This movie is hilarious, Steve Carell is fantastic.

The adult actor in Space Nuts was Stormy Daniels
I’ve watched this movie a gazillion times and I’ve never noticed the schedule on Andy’s fridge 😂
Fantastic script. Fantastic cast.
Steve Carrell should have been considered for an Oscar nomination.
You should totally watch I Love You, Man next... Paul Rudd is great in it
I had forgotten how funny this movie is. I believe this was the first movie that Judd Apatow or his first comedy with any of these guys, his first of many.
This was the first movie I remember with Seth Rogen, Jane Lynch, Elizabeth Banks, Kat Dennings and the first or second with Jonah Hill.
Judd at a time was making these type of movies back to back. 40 virgin, knocked up, funny people, this is 40. Producing step brothers and Superbad.
Carrel’s performance was amazing in this movie. He knows how to perform awkwardness mixed with comedy to a tee
everyone needs to realize that the waxing scene was all done in one take and the bleeding was real blood.
I saw this in the theater and laughed my @ss off. Every time I composed myself, someone sitting near me would crack up and that would get me going again. 😄
Yep. This and There's Something About Mary are the 2 movies that got the theater laughing the hardest. Bad Moms and The Boss tie for second.
The first 40 minutes of this movie are the funniest of any film I’ve ever seen.
I still quote "ohhhh Kelly Clarkson" frequently.
Watch the Aquarius clip from the movie musical Hair and you'll understand the final scene. It's on RUclips.
If you'd like check out Role Models (2008). It has the same kind of comedy and some of the same cast.
The drunk woman (driver that throws up) is Judd Apatow's wife. I imagine laughter fills that household.
This and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" (2008) are my faves of the Judd Apatow "Freaks & Geeks" cast.
