Totally agree... a voice that make you cry, jump for joy and everything inbetween.... AND ...AND .... she is an amazing, beautiful person AND shes from Yorkshire, happy Yorkshire Day Kate

Well done Mindy. You're a memorial vessel for the best time when we might not have got on, but the end result made us and our futures quite superb. Let's try to do it all again for those yet to come.
I have this CD also,It's the first time i ever heard Kate,John Tams also.Glad I bought it as there are some great tracks,i love the Sapnish Bride and Love Farewell.
I love the Recruited collier, such a sad but pensive song. Always makes me think of my ups and downs and where I have been as a person. Thank you for this video.
"Our friends - I may say it in this room - are the very scum of the earth… people talk of their enlisting from their fine military feeling - all stuff - no such thing. Some of our men enlist from having bastard children - some for minor offences - many more for drink; but you can hardly conceive such a set brought together, and it really Is wonderful that we should have made them the fine fellows they are.”
And amazingly enough, marginally better in the Army or Navy than down the pits - or, come to that, in a Georgian factory or as a starved farm labourer. Then and for long after.
What of it? That was the lot of the working man in those days, and it made us who and what we became that defeated Boney, the Yanks and the Germans twice in two centuries.
@@RobertLocksley385 Come off it, man! Defeated the Yanks? When??? And it took half Europe to defeat Boney and half the world to defeat the Germans. Read some history, for Christ's sake - and you might even learn that degrading abuse doesn't generally turn bums into heroes.
Mu great grandfarther was in Mansfield workhouse from when his mother died in 1872/73 until in 1889 he joined the army. The man in charge of the workhouse was a lifelong sergeant in retirement. I can imagine him filling the heads of the young lads full of stories of India and travelling the world. Better off in a scarlet tunic than starving to death on 340 grammes of bread and a pint pf soup a day..It must have been very attractive to many workhouse lads.

Kates voice is amazing. Would be the only thing to soothe my firstborn 10 years ago. Her cover of with of the Westmorland is simply divine.
her voice is absolutely amazing sends a shiver down my spine
adore kate. she deserves so much more recognition

One of my favourite songs of all time
I'm bawling like a baby listing this haunting peek into our ancestors lives.
This is my 2 Year old sons favorite lullaby
Beautiful song (I paid a fortune to get this CD in the U.S.). Also Sean Bean at his very best. I love John Tams as well.

I love Kate Rusby's voice

Now this song is soldiering.
This song is so lovely! I am familiar with most of Kate's work, but this song is new to me. I thank you very much for posting this beautiful gem.
Such a beautiful voice.
And what a dashing Sean Bean you have there.
I understand that Sharp was going to be played by a different actor
Beautiful.
Meine romantische Seele verliert sich in Resonanz..., ja auch ich bin ein "Scharfschütz" der alten Garde..
It's called the Recruited Collier btw.
I think its played in Sharpe's Regiment when he and Harper enlist in South Essex Regiment
perfection
I'm not even positive it was in the series, but it was on the soundtrack.
I can't remember it in the series either
It definitely was : )

I meant to say....Dick Gaughan's version is also excellent.
No it isn't....Dick Gaughan's version is horrendous and nowhere near the level Kate is
Dick Gaughan's
Kate's voice is lovely, but Dick Gaughan's version is the more powerful.
Whats his version called? Thanks.
@@ambianknight6816 The Recruited Collier. Ali Anderson and Graham Pirt also do a fine version.
Dick Gaughan's is nowhere near this level
This sounds better without Kathryn Roberts.
