I love the singing of John Tams, as Major Richard Sharpe takes his leave of the beautiful Cecile Paoli . The lucky bastard gets to love the best of Spanish and French womanhood.
I painted my parents granny flat to this entire soundtrack...I can still smell the brick and paint...and somehow that makes it more authentic to me. Yeah i guess I'm weird.
Yeah, Over the Hills.... is fantastic, but this one just gets me. It is so sad, so heartfelt, and shows the sadness of common people getting caught up in horrible things. War is such a waste, but what is one to do in the face of aggression and invasion of the heartland? AND you can just feel it; bad times are coming again.
I really love it, Major Richard Sharpe, tells Captain Fredrickson about “ luck “ he, was lucky to have such beautiful women who he falls in love with. Theresa Moreno, and Later Madam Lucille Lassan, both the very epitome of of Spanish and French Womenhood . The lucky bastard!!!! I fell for both of them. Ah unrequited love, the story of my life.
I love this song in fact I bought the album for my mam when I was like 15 and it spent more time in my cd player than my mams and now I moved out it has come with me lol sorry mam
Of course it is. Bernard Cornwall acknowledges that the first eagle wasn't taken at Talavera, apologises to the ghost of the man who took it, and pleads artistic license.
This always brings tears. Reminds me of loves lost in my past
Me too. ! ! !
A stunning song, one of my favourites from John Tams, one of Englands finest folk singers.
I loved Sharpe, the books and the series.
Great song I could listen to John tams all day long n never get tired of hearing him
To the John Bulls, Scots, Welsh, Irish, and their Allies that liberated the Iberian Peninsula from Napoleon.
From one named as you have yourself, your love for your friends is a delight. May God keep you and yours.

Just so sad and Lonely But sounds something right Awesome.
A lovely, caring story amidst the dreadful Napoleonic War which thankfully we helped stop. Wonderfully sung.
John Tams at his best.

The first into the field and the last from the fray!
I came here from watching Sharpe. Here is the website that has the music and soundtracks played in Sharpe. carlinmusic.com/artists/page/artistId/2091
Where does this recording come from? It sounds different from the version from the Unity album.
If any of you out there are interested…..the whole Sharpe series can be watched on ….Utube
Interestingly with Spanish subtitlies!
The British didn't take a French eagle at the Battle of Talavera. I'm assuming this song is about Sharpe.
Of course it is. Bernard Cornwall acknowledges that the first eagle wasn't taken at Talavera, apologises to the ghost of the man who took it, and pleads artistic license.
Cushla Geary He also added later on the first two people who did at the Battle of Barrosa
It was Sergeant Patrick Masterson who took the eagle at talavera
What are you on about it was the 44th (Essex) of foot who took the eagle
