      @pinnacleproductions6275 5 лет назад +3

      8 is not one of the best but yes it had the great match with Bret & Roddy, I remember watching that live & loving it! Bret became my favorite Wrestler during that match & I became a Bret fan from then on.
      I couldn’t seem to forgive Hogan after he pulled Sid out of the ring at Royal Rumble. I think they were going to try & turn Hogan heel but quickly changed their minds after Royal Rumble.
      The Flair VS Savage match was good but I hated his outfit lol. (Savage)
      I was excited for Hogan VS Sid & got all jumpy when Warrior came out.
      So it shouldn’t be compared to IX because it was without a doubt leaps & bounds better than IX.
      IX pissed me off again with what happened with Hogan! I was happy to see him “avenge Bret” but was mad Bret didn’t win. In fact I would get so mad that Yoko kept winning & Bret wasn’t ever able to win the title.
      But that’s what made it so sweet when Bret finally got the title back.

      @pinnacleproductions6275 5 лет назад

      FLORIDA GATOR IDK if I’d say it was great but it was a lot better than IX.
      At the time I freaked when Warrior came out to help Hogan but to watch it now the show doesn’t have much more than the Bret/Piper match and the Savage/Flair match.
      As a kid I loved the whole show especially the Bret/Piper match.
      But watching it now it is really weak. But IX is by far THE WORST!

  • @drvn8
    @drvn8 3 года назад +9

    I still think this worked out better for Bret.
    Yoko was on the rise and we needed a dominant heel to be champ for a while.
    At the time, no heel had ever left WM as champion, so having Hogan go over to end the show on some nonsense was fine since Hogan jobbed out to Yoko at KOTR, further building Yoko's clout by ending Hulkamania.
    Bret, on the other hand, had to rebuild and earn his title shot over the next year. His KOTR performance was top notch and he had the three best matches on the card (maybe of the year). He wrestled two matches at SummerSlam against two different styles, and started his Owen feud at Survivor Series, wrestled a tag match at RR and won the RR, jobbed to Owen in the best opening match at WM en route to getting his rematch at WM X against the unstoppable Yokozuna (who had taken out Hogan, an undefeated Tatanka, Undertaker, Lex Luger, and anyone else in his way).
    Bret going through all of this put him over way more than Hogan passing him the torch could have, and besides, Hogan didn't owe Bret anything. If you need Hogan to put you over, you're just admitting that Hogan is a bigger star.

      I was thinking this too. As world champion Bret never got a PPV win over Hogan, Flair, or Savage, even though all of them were in the company. This is purely speculative on my part, but it's entirely possible that they are both right. Hogan DID work on the European tour in the summer of 1993, after he had dropped the belt to Yoko. When did those tickets go on sale? Probably before Hogan had lost the title. So, if the idea was to help sell tickets by making Hogan WWF Champion, even though he would end up dropping the belt before the tour actually took place, that is entirely plausible.

    Even tho the guy who holds the World Title is a work, I can feel Bret on feeling some type of way about this situation. Was a terrible finish for a WrestleMania main event. If they wanted to hot shot the title to Hogan, they certainly could have done it a much better way. My two cents.

    I don’t care what anyone says. I watched the event live. Anyone who says anything bad about Hulk because of the finish clearly wasn’t watching wrestling in 1993. The crowd erupted and it was one of the biggest pops in wrestling history.
    Everyone likes to put their spin on it, but at the time, I can’t remember ever being so excited about a finish to a match. Never before had the championship changed hands two times in one night, and it certainly never happened at WrestleMania.

    I thought Wrestlemania 9 was nowhere near the worst, and quiet liked it. The idea that it's the worst, is generally the opinion of the Meltzer marks and Indy marks. The ending as a one off, at that time was great, because you thought Hogan, who was still most people's favourite wrestler was leaving/having very little to do with the WWE, so it was an awesome moment to see him win the title back.
    The outdoor Arena in Las Vegas I thought was also cool. The only negative I'd have about the event was, a few too many matches ended in DQs.
    The last few Wrestlemania's have easily been worse than Wrestlemania 9. They've been painfully long to watch at 5+ hours, and most wrestlers we don't really care about, and the main events with Roman Reigns (whom I don't mind) as a face been boo'd by the crowd, versing another heel, has meant the mainevent's of the last few years have been completely flat and downers.

    Is it entirely possible that they put the title on Hogan for the European tour and then Hogan pulled something to get out of going? Hogans a pretty busy guy and he also seems like the type that won't do something if it doesn't benefit him in some way.
    Overall, it seems a little silly to argue with someone who was actually there because some random internet site says something differently. WWE was a private company back in '93, things like house shows weren't shared, so unless someone who worked for WWE in '93 is writing that site it's pretty fair to assume that there is probably a fair amount of information that's either skewed or missing.

    • @str.77
      @str.77 6 лет назад +2

      Exactly. Because there's also Bret's account, that Summer Slam 93 was to be him against Hogan in a passing of the torch moment. They did promo shooting for that, allegedly a poster existed and WWF magazine reported on such a match (in a "who would win" scenario). If Bret got that right (or even the "back to Yoko on KotR" wasn't the plan from the beginning), it would have made sense to put the belt on Hogan for the July tour. He would have been champion. then things were changed before KotR, putting Bret against Lawler and Hogan moving out.

    Bret vs Yoko could of easily headlined the European tour. Hogan was not necessary.

    Bret seems to only ever see things from Bret's perspective, he seems to never be able to understand anyone else's position . He knows more than everyone, is better than everyone, and everyone is always just out to get him

    Hogan pinning Yoko at WM IX was the biggest crowd reaction of the night.

    I went to a European tour, and it was in July of 93! In the UK at Earl’s Court, so I can confirm he was there on that one! It was after he dropped the title to Yoko though, so perhaps is the confusion here!? Lol it was! Never the less I believe this was one of his last WWF appearances.

    WrestleMania 8 was infinitely better than WrestleMania 9. Savage v Flair and Bret v Piper were outstanding, Shawn v Santana is a very underrated match, and the rest of the card was good enough.

      I think WrestleMania 9 could have been saved if Ric flair had stayed in the WWE and we would have had Ric flair versus hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 9

    I never understood Bret's beef here. It was Vince's decision, and he gave Bret a strong run with the belt.

      It would have been a lot better letting Yoko run with it for a long time, instead of doing the whole Hogan run in at the end of Mania.
