River was so modern for his time. I can imagine what it would be like if we still had him today. You can see his love for music in his lyrics. I can imagine how far Aleka’s Attic would come. Many talents and potential with that band. I think about how long it’s been since we lost him and it breaks my heart. God always takes the good ones first :(. You are forever missed, River, I’m sure you know how much you are loved.
I loooooove River Phoenix. He was so amazing and sweet and talented. But I don't know how he'd be today. Possibly a washed up actor. Not saying that to be mean.I just mean because he was a heroine addict and addicted to other drugs as well and drug addict actors normally end up washed up and not casted in much.Even towards the end of his days he was already starting to look different from the drug use. But maybe he would have gotten clean and beat the addiction and had major success. The world will never know.
This song is extremely catchy! Gets stuck in your head quickly. River Phoenix is one of my favorite actors to date and an all around great entertainer and humanitarian...the world lost a truly gifted young man that fateful night..... R.I.P.
I never have really gotten over his death. He was one of a kind, truly special and beautiful in every way. Being the same age, I was absolutely devastated when he died. Imagine what a career he would have had!!!
THE AKBUM GETS AN OFFICIAL RELEASE, I WOULD LIKE TOO. I DONT BELIEVED THAT RIVER DIED ACCIDENTALLY, He was charismatic and began to speak of the rottenness of the great hollywood studios, which at some point may have caused his early death and the cover-up involving the participants and other famous and influential people of hollywood who began to see from 1991 that river Even using drugs (experienced) would not bend to hollywood, and it is probable that in the present ones perhaps it had left the profession to live in the field.
Just watched My Own Private Idaho again after over 20 years. Seems like a totally different move after all the time that passed. Wanted to hear whole thing after this song played in one of the cafe scenes.
This song is just genius, genius. The composition is so rich. It's like layers and layers of bass and a tinge of grunge, it is perfect! Such a strong foundation. The vocals, the lyrics and harmonies are perfect imperfect, the pitch changes form a sculpture. This was a great band, they put A LOT into the composition itself. Good for River and the rest of the band.
Such a beautiful song written by a beautiful person. Yesterday would've been his 41st birthday. He may have died a man, but he will forever live a legend. RIP River Jude Bottom.
It was a warm fall night in 1993, I was 13 years old, it was all over the T.V. I was heartbroken, so much potential, so much talent, you were the IT boy of my generation as far as acting. And your death was such a tragedy to me, that I have and will never forget you River. I know Joaquin will tell stories about you to Baby River to keep your legacy alive. Bless you River. 1970-1993.
God, thinking about River and the potential he had makes me so sad. He has a beautiful voice and was so talented, it's so sad to see such gentle and beautiful souls get crushed by the world. This band has such great music and I wish they'd get more recognition. It's nice to see him still live on in so many amazing pieces of music and film, he and his legacy have touched so many. Miss you River.
This is really bloody good! Usually actors make an embarrassing leap into music, or musicians into acting, and it just doesn't work. But River clearly was damn talented. I'm a big fan
Haha I got My Own Private Idaho Yesterday Finally! I got My Best Friend To Watch it with me. And i heard this song and Was Like Oh My God! I was like jumping up and down ha my Friend was like what what! I was like Its Too Many Colors haha! She thought i was strange I had to expain the whole thing to her, Aleka's Attic Forever! River Forever!
To River, Thank you for the body of work that you left for all the world to see, you were and still are a true inspiration of great proportions, From Andrea.
I so wish River were still alive to help keep his film and musical talent going. I absolutely love everything he ever was a part of or stood for. This song is amazing as were the films he was in
@Jethromoviemarathon Thank you for posting this comment. I remember the day 17 years before. Me and my friends were just leaving my house to go to the movies as we heard on TV that River had died. After that I wasn´t in the mood to do anything because I was so sad. I adored him so much and I hope that he will never be forgotten.
This is River singing :) did anyone notice that in My Own Private I daho, in the scene where River and Keanu are in the cafe, River has his leg up on the table this song is playing in the back ground? xx
Twenty years ago today on August 23, 1993 a great actor and talented musician celebrated his final birthday. He was only 23 years old and only nine short weeks later he left us forever. We still love and miss you RIVER PHOENIX. Happy Birthday!!
JOHN FRUSCIANTE KILLED RIVER JUDE PHOENIX WITH SPEEDBALL, I DONT BELIEVE IN GUS VAS SANT THAT RIVER USED DRUGS FOR FIRST TIME DURING MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO, IT ISNT TRUE, JOHN FRUSCIANTE AND FLEA INTRODUZING RIVER FOR DRUGS WITH HERONINE, COCAINE AND FOR LAST SPEEDBALL.
GABRIEL CAVALCANTE GONZAGA ALVES ALVES IT WAS FUCKING FLEA ALL RIO WANTED TO DO WAS JAM WITH HIM ON STAGE AT THE VIPER ROOM BUT THAT FUCKER TOLD HIM THERE WAS NO ROOM ! RIVER HAD ALREADY HAD A SHITTY DAY ALL HE WANTED TO DO WAS RELAX BUT FLEA SHOOED HIM OFF THE STAGE AND RIVER WENT OFF TO FIND A GOOD FUCKING TIME BECAUSE FUCKING FLEA WOULDNT LET HIM HAVE ONE
The Avodkado i read that in “Last night at the Viper Room”, real friends don’t do that to each other! Maybe River was upset after this and then just who were there knows what really happened 🤔 poor River, so young and talented...😢
Corey Feldman says he first used drugs with River because a technician on the set of Stand By Me gave it to both of them. Here’s the thing: there is no supervision and Hollywood will encourage drug use in young people to control and make the person docile. Also, some jerk like Van Sant will call River’s experimental drug use art when he was too young to be doing this to himself and it could f up his future and where were his lame duck parents, happy to have him be the breadwinner and buy them a huge property but doing nothing to protect him? Why were so many people using him for film but denying him when it came to his real love, music? And doesn’t it make sense that he was silenced? John may have been paid to give him that Mickey Finn drink speedball, because he was never prosecuted and his stupid Wiki page says that he was around but no one knows where when River died. Don’t you think he might have taken responsibility and promptly called 911 if it was just an accident and he was a friend of any kind? Isn’t it strange that River was suddenly kicked out of the club right after being given a fatal drink, separated from his family who light have helped? I don’t care if Samantha Mathis understood drugs or not...When someone suddenly collapses on the ground you don’t leave him for 15 minutes and run around trying to get back in a club... the whole thing, all facts, and no real autopsy, no real investigation... fishy!
@@theavodkado no. He was fine. Frusciante from Chili Peppers just randomly walked up with a little mini Dixie cup type thing and was like "drink this Riv it'll make u feel fabulous" As soon as he drank it he knew something was wrong and started screaming "what did u give me?" He merely accepted a drink from a friend he trusted... not realizing it was a lethal speedball that's kill him
Great Song! River Still Looked Like a Superstar Then as well. Love this song Beautiful.... Thank you and love you guys! (RIP) River Phoenix Beautiful voice River
According to one of his bandmates, River was a musician/singer songwriter first and an actor second. His friend said acting was just a really good day time job and River's real love was the music which I think you can tell by his passion he had for this band and his commitment of touring with them constantly despite being a "huge star" at the time.
We miss you River, this is some genuinely good music. No need for your good looks or acting talents to sell this to the public - it speaks for itself. From interviews I've read it seems that you had a very inquisitive mind and beautiful soul, wish you could have experienced more of life. Your memory lives on through your films and, what I imagine you would almost prefer to be remembered for, your music. I don't believe in heaven or that you're in a "better place", but I guess a comfort is that you made and continue to make the world a better place for others. Wrong place, wrong time - no matter what others say I think you were even more complex and deep then you let on.
I love this song. Someone please put this song on the music charts and give it a proper release. River would've loved for his music to be heard besides his movies.
Como fica meu coração?! Uma banda magnífica, tem todo meu estilo...traz a doçura da minha adolescência que só pude extrair da música, poesia e River Phoenix! Saudades para sempre! 😔💔
this song, 'goldmine' and 'blue period' were sold along with 'across the way' (also released on a benefit album) on tapes by the band at gigs in the 80's. occasionally the tapes crop up on ebay. I guess that explains how they got on here. i also posted 'below beloved'- as far as i know, this song is available because a band member leaked it onto the net. the others on here come from their official myspace. as far as i know, michael stipe only owns the early demos from island records..
People talk about his unfulfilled acting potential and they're 100% right, but he actually had a ton of musical potential too as we can see with this band's demos.
WOW, it's actually good and not just some actor(who is great by the way) playing music, if it wasn't acting, he toooootally could have gone into music, this is that good, and not just because river's in it, they're all good. This is damn good.
I remember hearing this back then... they played it on an underground station.. and I always thought it was great.. and sad the label wouldnt sign em after the 2 year period
Wow, this is just fantastic, shame they didn't go far. Shame there is no cd. Just found most of the songs on a soundcloud page, available to download. Going to accumulate all, the other few too, make a homemade cd.

Saw them play at a small cafe in Gainesville in 1991. Feels like it was yesterday. Glad the internet can keep their music, and his spirit, alive.
I bet that was awesome.
so lucky! omg
That's awesome!!! It must have been magical hearing them live. Where you close to the stage?
aweee, lucky.
youre so lucky
he had an amazing voice, he deserved all the happiness in the world
Yes, he deserved all in this fkg world ♡♡♡

My mom used to go see River play all the time. I'm proud to be from Gainesville and raised on her Aleka's Attic cassette tape
Hi this is 7 years late but do you know if your mom still has the tape? And if she’s be willing to sell it
