Thank you for this info ! My fiancé want to get married amidst this covid 19 stuff but can’t get a license and we were told a confidential license could be issued through a notary and work just the same with differences in line with what you are saying. Thank you!

Yes you could obtain a confidential marriage license from an authorized notary public. However, obtaining a marriage certificate might be challenging after. I spoke to the Riverside County recorder's office in California today and was told that they will start issuing licenses next week. Without getting too much into it, it is much easier to obtain your license directly from the County compare to going to an authorize notary.

Thanks for the info! We were told by Santa Clarita they a confidential license can’t be used outside of LA county. I asked them to verify but we will see..

This is probably due to COVID 19. Check other local County Recorder's offices, they don't all have the same restriction.

If I got a confidential marriage license would it be harder to obtain a copy down the line or would I or my partner still be able to get an official copy if need be in the future at a recorder's office? Or would I have to go to a court house to get an official copy?

In California, you and your wife/husband could obtain your confidential marriage certificate at any time at the same place that your license was issued. The catch is that your children, not even your mother could request a copy of your certificate. Confidential license are typically suggested for law enforcement, celebrities or for privacy. In general most of my couples (including myself) bought a public license.

One needs "licence" when one wants to do or use something that is owned by someone else and by that the licence giver sets the rules and regulates the process. When you go to ask any office for a licence for entering marriage, you submit to that office and its rules and its choices and and judgments over your marriage.
God already permitted you to marry. It is in the Bible. You don't need any government to licence you anything it has never owned to give away.

I agree. In the State of California you are able to purchase a marriage license and get married by your own faith. However if you get married without the license it just means you had a symbolic ceremony without any of the benefits (such as taxes). Regardless the decision is yours.
