We all love our iPhones, and we can’t live without them. But have you ever wondered what it's like inside the factories that make them?
Fun fact, the iPhone isn't actually made in China, it's actually made in many different countries. The reason why Apple's iPhone is determined as a Chinese import is that finishing is done in the country after a lot of traveling around the globe through Apple's global supply chain. When trying to comprehend where Apple produces its gadgets, two key ideas come into play, and that is assembling and manufacturing.
To explain further, the process of making the components that go into the iPhone is the manufacturing part. While Apple designs and markets the iPhone, it doesn't manufacture and produce its components, instead, Apple utilizes manufacturers worldwide to deliver individual components. The manufacturers each specialize in specific components. Camera specialists manufacture the lens and its assembly, screen specialists assemble the display, etc. On the other hand, assembling is the process of taking all the individual parts built by specialist manufacturers and combining them into the end product… a finished, working iPhone.

I always used to wonder where certain consumer electronics were actually made. In the 90's, I had cassette players, CD players and cameras and they would always say something along the lines of ''Assembled In China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong etc''. One Camera that I came close to buying stated ''Assembled In Hong Kong/China, Parts Made In Japan''. Doesn't sound much different from car assembly across the world (for example, Volvo Car Parts are made in Sweden, Belgium and Hungary but are sent to assembly plants around the world)

From 2009 till 2016 I lived a One Hour motorbike ride outside Saigon (HCMC), Vietnam. Many American, Korean and now Chinese companies like Nike, Apple and Samsung are building HUGE assembly and manufacturing sites. Why? Super cheap labor. What I am going to tell you is the Truth... Unbelievably True. A common unskilled Vietnamese worker works 7 days a week with Zero days off! They earn $100usd/30days labor. Yes, $100/Mon! Living costs are small due to many living in one house or apartment, pay no taxes and eating communal meals.
