This is the first language video on which I have ever commented: absolutely amazingly cogent and concise explication.
Thank you

Thank you
My brain has literally grown after watching this video. I love it. 谢谢
You are honestly thee best Chinese Tutor!!! Please keep doing what you are doing 🙏❤️
I really want to say thank you . Your videos are extremely helpful .
All I can say is "FANTASTIC VIDEO"!! Thank you very much!!
Your videos are extremely helpful. Chinese grammar has always been a struggle for me but you make it very easy to learn. Please make more videos!
Thank you for this video. One of the most confusing things about before and after is that before also means "in front, ahead", and after means "behind or at the back". That is so confusing when reading!
Although Chinese is an SVO language and Turkish is an SOV language, most of the time the speech logic is the same. We say:
🇹🇷(Biz) Şangay'a gitme[den önce] PEKİN'E GİDECEĞİZ.
🏴(We) WILL GO TO THE BEIJING [before] going to Shanghai.
🇹🇷(Biz) saat 3'[ten önce] TOPLANTI YAPACAĞIZ.
🏴(We) HAVE MEETING [before] 3 o'clock.
Thanks for your videos. They are really helpful. Plz keep up the good work! 😊
I feel like "before that" makes more sense to me than "before then". Great video
Agreed. Before then contradict each other and they together make no sense whatsoever.
@@Kitulous According to google:"Before then" means specifically "before that time", whereas "before that" might more specifically mean "before that occurrence" or "before a thing (previously referred to) happens"www.google.com/search?q=before+then&rlz=1C1SQJL_enUS794US794&oq=before+then&aqs=chrome..69i57.2115j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Thank you so much dear bro. You are so clear in discussion. It’s very helpful. Also you use easy English words for explaining so it’s help us as nonnative English speaker. ❤️❤️❤️
Well I am chuckling. I thought I understood 以前 and 以后. Thank you for clarifying this for me. You are very good instructor!
Thank you!
你的每一个视频都有无数宝贵的教训
「教训」通常是指从「负面、严肃」事件中学到经验或知识。例如「我昨天因为跟同学打架,而被老师教训了」或是「我从失败中学到教训」。
「教訓」usually means the lesson you learned from a bad experince or a serious event. For example, "Because I fought with my classmate yesterday, my teacher 教訓 me" or " I learned 教訓 from the failure"
Thanks for the clear explanation, Can you explain the difference between 以后, 后来 and 然后 please. Thanks!
以 is a character that can be translated as 'by' or 'via' something. So 以后 and 以前 mean [some action] 'by' [something OR an implied time].
You really should have more likes. I am a native speakers and I benefited.
Just found your channel. Really great stuff! Thanks so much. We really hope you continue making more videos!!

So good. Thanks for all your video.
Don’t stop doing this stuff! 厉害👍
Its surprisingly like in Turkish 🤔( ...den önce /yi qian)and ( ...den sonra / yi hou )
I like it.
Great video !!
I absolutely love your videos. They are by far the best way to teach Chinese. Therefor I would love to know if you will do this on a regular basis? Every week maybe?
And I had 1 more question. I saw these kind of videos are called explanimations. What is the name of software you use for this?
感谢你!
Great lesson, thanks a lot!
It makes sense, thank you for explaining!
This is a pretty weird way to look at these words. Wouldn't it just be easier to look at it how it is, that these are qualifiers tacked onto the word before, so the phrase afterward is of that quality to the first one "(going to china)-before = going to america" obviously being going to america before china, since the before is of (going to china). What's the need for the time machines??
"Before then" doesn't make much sense in the first example. It just makes it even more confusing. It should be "before that", or even better "but before that". Like this: "We go to China, (but) before that we go to the US".
Also "after that", or "and after that" would be better as well. Like this: "We go to the US, (and) after that we go to China".
That way it actually becomes sensible and easily understandable.
"After then" makes more sense when talking about a specific time, like 3 o'clock, or tuesday, because "then" refers to some certain point in time, whereas if you say "We go to China before going to the US" it's more vague and refers to just an event, or a sequence of events, where there isn't necessarily a certain specified time when it's going to happen. So using "then" in that case would be strange and confusing.
Otherwise a really good lesson! Keep it up!
how to say on Chinese but before that ? and all these words separately ? say pls )))

Love your videos. Can you make a video on 被 sentence?
Do you publish Chinese grammar books? I want to buy some.
In Russian we can speak 2 version, english one and chinese one:) so for russuans this thing is quite easy
Keep up the good work !
i really love your videos, i don't know why but they really make it easier for me to learn Chinese. I have a question though, shouldn't the sentence "We will go to Beijing before then will go to Shanghai" be "women hui qu bei jing yi qian hui qu shang hai". just like you thought in the tenses lesson. or are there exceptions to the tenses rules?
Still helpful! 謝謝老師!
using 'before that' is a more apt explanation, as aopposed to 'before then'
谢谢老师。这视频非常好。please teacher can you understand difference "一块人" 和""一起" .Thanks
Thank you BRO!!!!
Good
建议结合“之后”,“之前”,“先” 和 “再”学习,感觉更常用
睡觉之前,先刷牙
刷牙之后,再睡觉
practically, you can omit "以"

Its easier if you are a Bantu..Or Swahili speaker... Especially Kikuyu..But most bantu can't relate to this .. Without explanation...前means front...Same words we use to mean the same thing...(mbere ya ....)
Why so many ...'s
Actually, you should omit “以” and only use "前" for the correct chinese grammar. We use "以前" as XXX "ago". For examples, "500 years ago" "五百年以前"。
“Actually, you should omit “以” and only use "前" for the correct Chinese grammar.”
What? That is totally wrong!
You can always say 吃饭以前要洗手 just as much as 吃饭前要洗手. So I don't know where you get the idea that it is grammatically wrong. You can omit 以 in pretty much every situation of 以前 and 以后 except when they are used as "in the past" or "in the future"。
@@ChineseGrammarSimplified You are wrong. "以" is a preposition or a particle such as '"at" ,"on", "in", "up", . In an English sentence, even though we pick up the wrong prepositions or add up redundant particles, people can still understand your words in most cases but just feel a little bit awkward and know that you might not be a Chinese native speaker. Yes, you can say 吃饭前要洗手 as 吃饭’以“前要洗手, but we can still say it as 吃饭“之”前要洗手. In fact, people who speak Chinese generally talks that this if they add a preposition(之 not 以)or 前 for this case.
What's interesting here is that the English preposition "ago" comes AFTER its phrase. We cannot say "ago 500 years". So, regarding 以前 and 以后, maybe all we need to say is that in Chinese, these prepositions come AFTER their phrase, just like "ago" does in English.
@@mountaintag which makes ago a postposition rather than a preposition. I think.
@@scotth5988 Ha ha ! Good one ! Some people say that "they're at the post" means that the horse race is over, because "post" means "after". :-)
laoshi we are waiting for your next lessons please upload new lessons .. thanks
What if I wanted to say I liked chenese people before going to china ? Would it be wo qu zhonguo hi you xihuan zhonguo ren ?
no, it should be我去中国以前喜欢中国人。
Actually the Chinese sentence makes sense to me. Maybe coz my mother language isn't English...
What different between 这前 and 以前
Pedro កំសាន្ត 这前 is not a thing we say in Chinese, maybe you are referring to 之前。”xyz 之前” is the same as “xyz以前”
I think "之前"&"之后" are more common for short period.
Not necessarily, I personally believe that 以前&以后 are just as common, and a lot of the times, we will also just use 前 and 后 for short.
我們去中國以前,"先"去美國。
我們去英國以後,"再"去美國。
加了"先"、"再"這2個字,這樣句子會更清楚一些喔!謝謝。
你好 我有问题, 这里(他在银行工作了两年以后来的我们公司)为什么用来的?
1.我们去加利福尼亚州以前,我们会跟客户说。
2.以前,我没去过纽约。
3.我骑车上班以后,我会给你打电话。
Is that correct??
I learned about this before. After watch this, it confused me.
Sorry to hear that, maybe watch it a few more times.
以后和然后是一样吗?
不一样
@@ChineseGrammarSimplified 为啥呢?
@@nurmuhammad4540 然后 is a stand-alone word meaning "then", you don't attach it to other words. When 以后 is standing alone, it means "in the future" as explained in the video.
@@ChineseGrammarSimplified 明白了,谢谢你
these things really make me confused! as a non-native speaker learning both english and chinese, i explain this by myself:
English: I went to china before i go to france.
chinese: 我去中国以前去法国。
THEN i separate the sentence's structure LIKE THIS:
i went to china before/i go to france => china then France.
我去中国以前/去法国。=》china then france.
sorry if i was wrong, but i think they are similar in structure, because BEFORE/AFTER in english also be used to describe the action that happening before the another action in the past.
did i misunderstood? can anyone help me? 🥲
Sorry, but your understanding is not correct. First:
English: I went to china before i go to france.
chinese: 我去法国以前去中国。
Break down:
Sub + V + Obj = I went to China,
Time = before I go to France
In Chinese:
Sub + v + Obj = 我去中国
Time: 去法国以前
Chinese sentence structure:
S + Time + V + O
therefore: 我 去法国以前 去中国。
@@ChineseGrammarSimplified 谢谢你!
老师好!以前和前一样吗?
I think that 以 in 以前 can sometimes be omitted, so 前 alone is sometimes used. Also, instead of 以前, sometimes 之前 is used. But when 前 is used alone, it could stand for 前面, which means "before" (in position), rather than 以前, which means "before" (in time).
People must not read a lot. All of this chinese grammar is perfectly acceptable in english as well. They just arent commonly used in normal speach. more for literary works.
Hui/lai q.......coming going is very confusing.please help
New video will be published this weekend
Please, May I know how to say in Chinese? I have never done sth
That's a very good question. I would invite you to take a look at my video about the five basic tenses in Chinese. In that video I mentioned a character for perfect tense 过. To say I have never done something, we would usually use expression “没 + Verb + 过”, or more thoroughly we would say, “从来 没 + Verb + 过”.
Wow
✌️✌️✌️✌️
I’M SO CONFUSED ASDFGHJKLÑ
Sorry, please maybe watch the video gain?
how to say "first of all".
首先
I need more grammar
Long story short, it's still backwards. Man, this grammar messes with my head. English thinks in a particular time flow, making this transition difficult. When creating the sentence, the first set of words have come first, but with Chinese, I have to set them aside, and wait until I say them last in the sentence. Normally I have said the first part of the sentence, and the second half hasn't been fully formed yet.
You touched on the key difficulties of language learning --- changing thought patterns. Different languages organized different information differently, you essentially have to rearrange your thought patterns to be able to switch between languages.
Once you're familiar with more than one language, you will find it fascinating when you notice there are different cultural and value priorities reflected in languages. For example, there are so many different words for different kinds of cheese in English and European languages, while in China we have a list of specific terms to address different cousins. In a sense, words are basically shortcuts to ideas, the more nuanced words we create for the concept, the more we value the concept in the culture.
我们要说跟客户的以前去蒙得维的亚,
我们去蒙得维的亚以前要说跟客户的
They don't seem quite right, especially we don't say 说跟客户, we only say 跟客户说。And what is 蒙得维的亚?
加利福尼亚去以前我们跟 clients谈。
我以前没去过纽约市。
我骑自行车去上班 以后给你打电话。
对不对 老师?
Very close, you can read the answers on my website.
Ya I've seen, a little bit mistake 💔 it's confusing 上班 和 工作

Cant you just think of before then as after and vice-versa?
Instead of saying :
We will go to China before then we will go to USA
We could say :
We will go to China after going to USA
The translation gets a bit lost but I hope it was clear
hen hao xiexie nin
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
at this point i just think that chinese are just looking ways to be harder an harder
The overarching grammar is usually pretty simple. But there are a lot of exceptions and special phrasings that confuse intermediate and advanced students.
You make me confused... teach us strictly tell us directly... straightfotward if using yihou which happen first? The first mentioned or the second mentioned? If using yiqian tell us so
A 以后, B = A first, B second
A 以前, B = B first, A second
No wonder they talk about the inscrutable Chinese mind
去中國以前 去中國以后
🤕
Omg
Background music is too loud/distracting, so I had to stop watching. Otherwise, seems like really good info.
Sorry, I notice this problem and made changes in later videos.
It is better to write
有没有 人 会 告诉 你 我 很 在意
Instead of this
有没有人会告诉你我很在意
Looks like you're trying to leave spaces between the words (as we do in English). This is not done in Chinese. In Chinese, there are no spaces between the words.
@mountaintag Always good to see your helpful tips for other students .
图片很漂亮, 但是让我困惑 :-((
Sorry, it is a confusing structure when compared to English.
