This is an inspired performance by a truely talented musician. The structure of the music is so interesting and entertaining. He is obviously gifted! I enjoyed every second of this video.
Somebody said, "he's no Tommy Emmanuel, but he does show promise." Well he was also 21 years old when this video came out. I've heard Tommy early in his career, and he was no where near where this kid is at. Tommy kept it up and is a much greater guitarist today than he was at this kids age. Smokin Joe has the same mentality. I can't imagine where he'll be at in another 20 years.
He learned from Tommy a lot. Beat skill is still below Tommy. if u saw Tommy 1991 perform u ll know that he is the king of beat. Hopefully Joe will practice beat more. His hand finger pick and grip is still not too powerful compare to Tommy. The sound doesnt come out. I confess Joe is super guitarist hero though!! Joe you ll be the most influence guitar hero after Tommy if you can skill up those beat.
He’s already more diverse in his playing and writing. Joe writes amazing songs, and he writes amazing lyrics as well. Something that he has an advantage with compared to many other finger-style guitarists.
one of my all time favourite guitarists I hadn't actually heard him ever make a mistake up until this performance though. All I can say is that you it must have been really because you literally have to wake up early in the morning to fool this guy. Great work Joe!
music is a competition. music has advanced through the ages due to competition, among other things. also musicians and artists compete on a daily basis to be seen, to be some one and to make money. art is not just hippy bullshit, it's survival and progress, like everything else on this planet.
I think that song wasn't released yet.. I wasn't able to find it anywhere so I trained the guitar and vocal from this live performance but still don't know the name of the song
most developments in art have happened due to competition. sharing is a big part too of course, and a lot of the sharing, historically, has existed in the form of stealing or imitating. most great artists would admit that they want/have wanted to be the best, i can guarantee you that.
the audio for this sounds like its coming straight from the mix, and because the sound of the audience wouldnt have been picked up in the microphones on stage, we can't hear them. that'd be the reason
I can hear some polite applause, but otherwise heads aren't even moving. I don't know how early in the AM this was, but maybe they shoulda passed out stronger coffee? Joe did an outstanding job considering. Sometimes the audience makes ya just wanna put the guitar in the case and go home.
Your theory is flawed. Take money out of the picture and nothing is a competition. As humans, when not in scarcity, we have a lot to learn from eachother. It is wrong to classify any art as competition. Art is about sharing, and Joe has donne exactly that. We are all one, peace and love from Portugal *
Great player. But he doesn't have a singer voice, and his lyrics are so Pink Pop style. He need to focus on his instrument and stop singing, he has such a tiny voice compare with his talent on the guitar
Joe is still one of the finest acoustic guitarists i've ever listened to, thanks for share a 2012 video, cause most of his uploads are previous
We still don't recognize how great this guy is.

Joes brilliance shining through..
I really like his playing 👍
The kid`s amazing!

his finger will be invisible :D, and the note will be more rich and powerfull

BRILLIANT..!
Very passionate. Loved it
I will say this as delicately and tactfully as possible -- "OMG!"

Great work Joe!
Unreal! Thanks Joe!
I don't like this kind of music, but Joe's music has the flavour that I really enjoy.
which is great. Finally a truly creative musician.
this kid is going to be regarded as a complete fucking genius... hopefully sooner than later. do what you do, Joe!!
DAM, This young man is great player.
what! he sings too!! this guy really has talent
good! An acoustic guitar to play the tired - -! i love it
Chet Atkins is smiling in heaven.
Love his natural appearance.. also Tommy's

I guess he's growing up even more! :D Awesome performance.
wow
i don't care whether he'll acquire as much fame but i wish he'd get as rich as them cuz his calibre deserves it.
YEAH BABY!!!!! :)
hes like john mayer on steriods
Wow, such a player!
Reminds me of great Tommy Emmanuel.
Good job mate!

What on earth is this song he's playing at 10:20 ? Can't seem to find it anywhere, no matter how hard I type all the lyrics into Google. :(
Aki Toivola me too.. i have no idea too
Awesome! Was the audience responding at all? You can't tell from the mix, and Joe seemed kinda insecure?
The best thing about him is that you can't categorize his music..
move on over Tommy, the new king of acoustic has emerged!!
In a setting like this, they start on time! A lot of movement and late arrivals....and the audience is so far away.
does anyone know the name of the song that starts at 10:15
whats the song starting at 10:15
Please what is the song at 10:16
somebody's been practicing their scales...
This audience is either dead or in shock/awe of his mind boggling talent..i hope its the latter..for their sake

Amazing guy !
Are they all dead ? Oo

I swear everyone in the crowd was deaf
Tough crowd!!!!
He's a robot.
haha soz about the aggressiveness, yeah me too :3
that's not exactly fair tommy's considering tommy's got a few more years under his belt than joe does
his acoustic playing is amazing ans soulful, but his electric playing has about as much emotion and feeling/tastefulness in it as a toilet.
lol its pretty funny he kinda didnt play daddy longlicks in this video... awkward
He's no Tommy Emmanuel but he does show promise.....
vocals sound a little like Nickel Creek
would still take emmanuel over joe any day of the week. and joe's lyrics could use some work IMO.
massively jealous of his chops though, respect.
Yeah... emmanuel could be his grandpa. Give Joe 40 more years on the Road and he Will have smoked tommy as well...
Poor sound Engineering.
But great performance.
Goodbye guitar...........
Well, thank God he can't sing as well as he plays. That would not be fair...lol.
Great player. But he doesn't have a singer voice, and his lyrics are so Pink Pop style.
He need to focus on his instrument and stop singing, he has such a tiny voice compare with his talent on the guitar
Not even asian...
This guy needs to keep playing and stop singing...and wait for Tommy to die.
Sssssssssssssssssss great performer and guitarist! shite sound!
