      Sort of how you used slate to add more Hugh end to the guitars, I like Kush's Clariphonic EQ to bring in high mids/highs after surgical EQ.
      Reaper allows you to have a mix knob for all plugins so I'll start it at 0 and mix it to taste almost like dialing a guitar amp.

      I use Neural Sims, Bogren Digital 'downtune' IR's, Waves SSLEQ (musical EQ), Fabfilter EQ (surgical 'if' needed), Fabfilter MB, Waves CLA3A, SoundToys Decapitator, and then a little touch of Sooth 2 on the bus for a subtle cleanliness that glues leads/rhythms/cleans together.

    1. EQ.
    1.1 Low cut at 80-120 Hz.
    1.2 High cut at 10-8 kHz
    1.3 Removing muddy boxiness at 200-270 Hz. Just bring up frequencies it that region by small Q and listen where it sits. Then cut it 2-4 dB
    1.4 Removing fizz in the 3kHz region. 3,3 - 3,7kHz region usually have this. Do the same as in 1.3.
    2. You DON'T NEED a COMPRESSOR with distorted guitars. They already compressed and saturated.
    3. Add some little amount of room reverb if sound is too direct and bone dry.
    4. DONE!

    I've recently found that spectral compression/EQ works very well for mixing metal guitars. It can replace a whole heap of plug-ins I otherwise would use. I mainly use TBProAudio DSEQ v3, but Auburn Sounds just released a free one called LENS that works just as well. It can take a while to get used to using these kinds of processors but it's definitely worth it considering how much time it can save you in the long run.

    Mixing is very different depending on who is mixing. Recently i really try to get the guitars mixing of I prevail band which are made by Tyler smyth who made also the mixes for the band Falling In Reverse. He manages to mix them in such a way that they are powerful and clear, without there being any disturbing frequencies. I like so much his mixes but it's really hard to get the same sound. I think it would be cool if you tried to get the same guitar sound as him, you can listen to the new I prevail album that came out very recently it's a very modern metal mix so it's very satisfying to listen to.

    • @AckzellMusic
      @AckzellMusic Год назад +1

      A lot of that is in the performance, the guitarists pick, his powerful attack that provides power and clarity, how his guitar is setup etc. The guitars do sound badass on that album - without sounding over-done at all. Fantastic mix

      @chrisjalbert1997 Год назад

      It’s the classic “the mix sounds good because the performance is good” it’s just because you don’t play exactly like them. Try using their mix as a base but tweak the settings to get what you want, then add things to patch the differences you can’t get

    Despite the fact that half of the frequencies in the mix are simply inaudible, one question is brewing for me: Is it really necessary to suffer so much with mixing? First, the first compressor, then the second, then the third, then the equalizer, and so on in a circle ... To then change the amplifier or guitar at the output if you don’t like the sound and start all over again ...Recently started writing music and this topic already scares me...
    I recently started writing music and this topic already scares me...
    No, of course I try, I test different plug-ins for sound processing, but in fact I start doing this more than finishing the track that is on my disk as a demo of who knows how many years...

    • @robertpaten
      @robertpaten Год назад

      Dial in your guitar tone, print it to audio and mix from there. Same applies to the other instruments. I think its better to be working with committed source tones so you can get into the mixing mindset. Keep the DI's, midi etc for another attempt later down the line when you've learned went wrong/ well the first time around.

    • @j_c_93
      @j_c_93 9 месяцев назад

      You definitely do not need to use the amount of compression he is using. Most people wouldn't compress the distorted guitars at all and would only compress the instrument or master bus. You don't necessarily need to use this much EQ either - a high and low pass is often enough. The important thing is to start with a good guitar tone that you like.
