      White genocide isn't real.
_or alternatively agree that the native americans were diluted not genocided_
Diluted? They're not a bottle of squash. Genocide: a large number of people of a given demographic being systematically murdered actually happened.
Moley trying to say native genocide didn't happen because genes is just him trying to minimize the fact that the natives underwent a genocide. Moley doesn't get to redefine words and their meanings, history or current reality to fit his own warped agenda.
To avoid any further confusion, take whatever moley says and just disregard it as being the insane ramblings of a nutbag that's found an audience in the US - whod've guessed?

I love how much these morons rely on "the rules of war" as if such a fucking thing even exists as anything but hypothetical. If someone breaks a rule, presumably there's recourse for doing so - yet this is hardly ever the case on a universal basis. 'Might makes right' is the only real rule of war, and the recourse for disregarding this rule is destruction. Countries are all contemptible things with no sense of virtue and the powerful disregard all supposed international decorum if it suits them - if the US did not have the world in a headlock, we'd have been a country of war criminals ages ago.

Attempting to eradicate an entire people or civilization, through a premediated program of mass killing, never happened vs. the natives.

@@Obs23456 That's not particularly true for the majority of North American tribes, where many wars were nearly bloodless as far as we could tell. In Central America this would have been more true, though still less so than how you mean, as while quite a lot of people died in their wars specifically, not a single one of these wars would have decimated the population as the arrival and actions of Europeans did.
Besides, the actions of genocide continued into the modern day. Even to this day, many Native American women have their Fallopian Tubes cauterized or tied after birth, and it was a major "medical" practice up to 1995. This, as defined early into the video, very clearly constitutes a practice defined as genocide.

Do you think that you can actually justify genocide by handwaving away the Native Americans’ as being lesser and not even stopping to think that they were human beings like yourself?
“Barely any basic tools” actually means something more like “hasn’t mastered metalworking yet.” The Aztecs’ padded armor was noted by the Spanish as being so good that they found it worthy of stealing and wearing themselves, and their obsidian blades were as sharp as any sword. The Maya were masters of architecture on the level of the Egyptians, building huge stone cities all over the place, as well as inventing a complex writing system and being excellent at astronomy. The Inca built Machu Picchu, a city on top of a giant fuck-off mountain in the middle of giant fuck-off mountains, before they invented the wheel. Teotihuacan was the sixth-largest city in the world at the time. The only qualification in which they were not “advanced” was in their weapons technology, which even then was superb for its kind.
Also, fuck you and the ground you stand on for this “judging people’s worth by their technology” bullshit. You wanna know something? THEY’RE STILL FUCKING PEOPLE. It doesn’t matter if they have iron tools or obsidian, they’re still human beings and deserve to be treated as such. YOU ARE A FUCKING ABOMINABLE MONSTER.
The only reason white Europeans ended slavery is because they dominated the world. Nobody else was going to do it because nobody else was in the position to do so. I would also say that you appear to think genocide is bad, and yet your comment is dedicated to justifying one of the most devastating genocides in history. You should feel like shit, because that’s what you are.
By the way, I feel I should mention that Europe was far from the peaceful paradise that you make it out to be. Europeans genuinely hated each other and slaughtered each other like cows for their entire history. The only reason you might think they were harmonious is that they were able to live on the same continent without destroying each other, even disregarding the fact that they very much tried several times.
I know there’s a lot of ad hominem in here, but I feel it’s the only effective way to get my point across that justification of genocide, no matter what genocide it happens to be, is and always will be one of the most horrible things a human in the 21st century can do.

_Now I’m not saying White Guilt™ is impossible as a concept. Just that people like Stefan and Lauren Southern aren’t applying it correctly._
_Reading the history of what happened to the Native Americans, I was often outraged, sometimes disgusted. But I never felt personally guilty. Just saddened by what people can do to one another. Acknowledging offence from the past in which white people have been in the wrong isn’t driven by guilt, just honesty. Understanding is not guilt._

Why would you feel so defensive if you don't have some subconscious semblance of guilt? I think white people now don't have anything to feel guilty about the Native American genocide except those who deny the genocide and still somehow attack the Native Americans (in words and invented excuses to not see the pain Natives lived). If they really felt guilty, they should realize that they are the ones trying to hurt the Natives now and destroying the truth. That's no way to behave if you really feel guilty. In fact, they just don't want their race to be seen as guilty, not that they care about really being guilty.

the real problem is that the political left uses this history to justify delegitimizing the accomplishments of western civilization and white people. which are immense when it comes legal concepts, political rights, technology, science, overall improvement of the human condition, etc. also the left uses this real history to delegitimize one group of humans ,while ignoring the fact that these horrible practices re near universal among humans, including the native americans before Columbus. the Aztecs, incas were brutal imperialists by any standard; the Pequot war started as an inter-native American war between several rival tribes trying to establish their own dominance over trade. the Pequot tribe were also expanding into other tribes' land. when you really study human history, the idea that one race, nation, gender, etc is uniquely evil or oppressive is not only false, it is ignorant often purposedly so.

@@GamerGuy249 Raphael Lemkin's "Axis Rule in Occupied Europe" is what popularized the term, but looking at his research notes from the '20s and '30s we see that much of what shaped his conception of the term he would coin came from studying the history of European colonialism in the Americas, Africa, and Australia/the Pacific. And he had a broader definition of what could be considered genocide, some of the nuance even being lost in the UN Conventional definition of the crime (what leaps to mind is those acts he considered "cultural genocide": forced conversions, destruction of books, symbols, and material culture, etc). It's kind of a shame that genocide isn't centrally identified with colonialism even though it was colonialism that motivated the majority of genocides in human history and it's what inspired Hitler to commit the most extreme and streamlined one (almost every ideological basis for the Holocaust, from racial purity and eugenics to Lebensraum, stemmed directly from the history of British and American attitudes and policies towards indigenous peoples in the American continent as well as the Africans they enslaved).
TL;DR it's ironic that today there are still people like Molyneux that say what happened to native americans wasn't a genocide even though the guy who defined genocide literally based it on what happened to native americans, and the most infamous genocides were based on what happened to native americans

It’s come back to me. I tried to find a source but couldn’t find a neat one.
What the ‘67 referendum did was give the Federal Gov the power to make laws with respect to indigenous people, which meant they could (among other things) be included in the federal census. Previously the Fed Gov was constitutionally unable to do that, which is probably how the whole “fauna” thing came about.
That doesn’t mean they weren’t considered “human” - they had full voting rights before the referendum for eg (not much before in some places, but still), they could be witnesses in Court, they could be charged with crimes, etc. The referendum was, however, not presented that way in the day, and symbolically was and remains very important.

@@nevillegreen482 that’s a perfectly fine term. Aboriginal or indigenous Australian is correct. They were actually quite an advanced hunter gatherer society with some degree of Land and sea agriculture (fisheries, etc). There are thousands of unique indigenous languages from all across the country and their history dates back between 40000 and 60000 years. I recommended you take the time to learn about them, they are a fascinating culture and the history of their treatment, both past and present, is a tragic one. Stefan knows nothing about them and the aus government decided not to let him and Lauren southern back in because they are straight up white supremacists. A channel called YeahNah has a video on it. And illiteracy is not a sign of being primitive. Again, they had languages and art, but they didn’t need to write it down. It’s like when other racists insult Aboriginals because they didn’t invent the wheel. They didn’t need it, so they didn’t make it. Also, many communities are now worse off due to inter generational trauma primarily as a direct result of the stolen generation (look that up if you want to be sad) and many communities suffer from domestic violence, drug use and alcoholism in addition to high unemployment. This is the result of more than a century of legal and social discrimination and attempting to force a different way of life on vastly different groups of people.

The Nazi Holocaust is defined for most people through its complex network of Concentration Camps, Death Camps, railroads, and general expediency.
As an Assyrian, when discussing the Seyfo and the Armenian Genocide with Deniers (or the uninformed). their first questions are rarely concerning the population decreases, whether civilians were targeted, and which political figures issued genocidal threats, but often are "where were the concentration camps?" and "where were the gas chambers?", as if those were the markers of genocide. By and large (although there are cases of railcars and concentration camps in Western Anatolia), most of the Seyfo, Armenian Genocide, and Native American genocide were performed with "death squads" more than any industrialized process.

And, actually, it's not like war and genocide are mutually exclusive. Example, armenian genocide, it took place during the first World War, but it was definitely and attempt to destroy all armenians by turkish government. Countries like Russian Empire were practically always at war, that doesn't mean circassian genocide can't be classified as a genocide either.

Over the hundreds of years, in this war of cultures, there were massacres and atrocities all the way around. But the Whites did not want or attempt a genocide of the natives.
This is simply wrong. Read my fuller explanation below.

      @karimqk1895 4 года назад +36

@@thomassenbart You said that the US cannot be held accountable for the actions of a solitary "crazed... commander." That's implying that him and his actions were antithetical to the US government's intentions. Which is patently false when looking at how explicit the US military and political leaders were about removing, eradicating, and/or subjugating natives who lived on land deemed useful or desirable by the United States. Y'know things like: intentionally slaughtering buffalo en masse to starve out Plains Indians and bring them to heel, the Trail of Tears, subsidizing white settlers in Indian territory, etc. It's absurd to claim that the US neither wanted nor performed genocidal actions, when contemporary writings of the time directly contradict that.
And to your point, maybe not _all_ these events would technically count as "genocidal," but the events that ARE undeniably genocidal in nature were very much on brand with the overall thrust of manifest destiny and similar ideologies. Those ideologies were central to US expansion, not some fringe movements which were not representative of US policy, like you seem to be saying.

    • @thomassenbart
      @thomassenbart 4 года назад

@@karimqk1895 No, the US govt did not have a policy of eradication. Removal to Reservations, yes. Subjugating, yes. Which is why the Buffalo were killed, along with the skin trade of course.
Starving the Indians into submission was not about killing them but subjugating them. Once they were on the Reservations the Bureau of Indian Affairs was responsible for feeding the Indians and did, though with a great deal of corruption.
This same tactic was and is used in warfare through the ages. We impose blockades on countries just for this purpose. We did it to Iraq, Iran, Russian, N. Vietnam, Nazi and Imperial Germany, the Confederacy etc...
Yes the Trail of Tears was terrible but again, not genocide. The removal of the tribes to Oklahoma, did not kill them off and it was not the policy of the Jackson admin.
No, contemporary writings at the time do not contradict me. Produce the documents. Which President or administration sought the genocide/extermination of the Native population?
What events were undeniably genocidal in nature? I only know of one that would classify as such and it was not a governmental policy but was instituted by the miners and land grabbers in California after 1849.
Manifest destiny did not seek to kill off the Indians either. It was an ideal that believed the US was destined to control the continent from Sea to Sea.
The idea of settling the West, making the great American desert into farm land and making use of the vast interior of the country, which was overwhelmingly uninhabited, though the plains tribes obviously ranged across it, was the purpose of the Federal govt.
I would argue this policy was not genocidal at all and allowed for the feeding of the world via making American agriculture amazingly productive. A civilizational and global good.
Also, by the time of the founding of the USA. The vast majority of indigenous Americans had already died but not due to genocide but disease. 90% of all native died in this manner and without ever contacting a European or American.
The number of Indians in 1783 across the entirety of North America, would have been in the hundreds of thousands. The continent was mostly uninhabited.
The massacres, such as Wounded Knee and Sand Creek killed hundreds of people, not millions. Obviously they were horrible but so too were all of the Comanche raids in Texas and Mexico, the Indian on Indian warfare where torture and indiscriminate killing and enslavement were the norm, the attacks on pioneers or settlers throughout the period. It was all rough business.
The way that the natives were treated was abominable in general however, it was not genocidal.

as a native studies student, I feel this video goes to easy on Stefan (and yes I've seen his video too). the atrocities committed against native people were undoubtedly worse and more frequent than what native groups have done to settlers, (there is one example in Virginia where a native allegedly stole a cup from a settlers house and in return had his village raided and their crops salted) but even if you use his definition of genocide, that you have to succeed in getting rid of the group for it to be genocide, than it still applies to native people. There are First Nations that were completely destroyed (as in no members of that nation left today) such as the Beothik of Newfoundland. That is a native group that no longer exists because of English colonists, this is genocide in the Americas even by Stefan's definition.

Jordan Myers If we look at the rest of the world, it seems city building civilizations require large population growth which is sustainable through farming. Quite simply, if you can't feed a city, the city will fail.
Additionally, in colder regions people need to move to warmer regions with more food in the winter, unless they can store food in sufficient quantities to last through the winter. In case of a bad harvest, it needs to last through 2 winters. If it doesn't, the city will die. In warmer climates people can have more harvests per year, resulting in more food and a more stable supply of food. There were loads of different ways different tribes dealt with this.
Due to the winter, people also need to build shelters that are better at keeping the temperature, or they need to burn more wood. If they burn more wood than grows near the city, the city will die. Running out of wood is seen by some as a major reason for the fall of Cahokia, a large city near St Louis.
There was also the onset of the Little Ice Age from about 1300 onwards, which may have prevented further growth of existing settlements in colder climates, and even lead to their decline.
Solving these problems takes time, and chance. In Central America there were fewer problems to solve, so they had a better chance to reach the city building stage first.
Once all of these problems are solved, population growth will likely still be slower in colder climate, slowing down the time it needs to grow from small settlements to large city states. As the size of the settlements grows, trade between settlements is more likely to grow and therefore the rate of advancement of knowledge is likely to increase. These effects can be - and have been - countered through other effects such as traditions, caste systems, religion, government policy, wars, epidemics, natural disasters, etc. But these effects seem to be far less dependent on climate than the consumption of firewood and the amount of harvests per year are. For example the black death affected all of Europe, regardless of latitude.
In contrast, in Europe the knowledge of growing crops was imported as was much of the population, so they didn't have to solve all of these problems on their own. Add to that the Roman Empire and the Migration Period, and you see how these developments can very quickly become completely random and unpredictable.
Leave North America and go South and you'd have found some of the most advanced cities in the world if you were in the right time period, big buildings and agriculture isn't a European thing, you'll have to look elsewhere for supremacy, like genocide, Europeans probably out genocide anyone.

On the topic of white guilt: I have found that right-wing people often conflate guilt and responsibility.
They argue that because you didn't comit past atrocities you are not guilty of them and therefore hold no responsibility towards them. What they don't seem to recognise is that guilt is not necessairy for responsibility. If you come from a culture that has commited atrocities in the past it is your responsibility to be sensitive, informed and critical about these issues. You're not responsible for what happened, but you're very much responsible for that never happening again. To admit that however would mean to admit that issue at hand has nothing to do with guilt. But I guess "white responsibility" doesn't have the same ring as "white guilt".

I believe that whoever belongs to that group or calls upon this specific term of values has the responsibility to define this term in morally sound way, aka be a decent human being. I personally am German, so I believe my responsibility is to show the world that being German does not mean being a fascist and genocidal monster. The big difference is however that Boko Haram are still active, while the German Reich does not exist anymore, so it is far easier to determine who is actually responsible (or guilty, for that matter) for Boko Haram's crimes, which of course does not include every African or even black person on this planet.

Granted, when the US tried to remove my tribe there weren't any large scale massacres like Bear River, Sand Creek or Wounded Knee. Still they did confiscate or destroy food stores, livestock, and crops. This was very intentional and it resulted in a lot of people starving to death and being forced into surrender. The irony being that the Army basically said "surrender to us and we'll feed you", but of course the military didn't have any food either. Of the thousands who died during that time few of them were outright killed violently. Instead the real causes of death were starvation, exposure, and diseases. To put it in perspective the US government hanged the Confederate officer in charge of the Andersonville POW camp for failing to feed the Union prisoners there of which a third of them died. Of the near 10,000 of my forbearers who were sent to an internment camp almost half of them died there. No justice for that though the Army basically said "oops" and that was that.

As a Canadian, the prison/labour camps, previously known as residential schools were more than "harsh". They cruelly tortured children. Currently, in July 2021, there have been about three discoveries of unmarked graves, one a mass grave, which contained a child about three years old among the other dead children, and the other two were traditional graveyards but were also unmarked. If someone asks me, "were they really that bad?" I only have one sentence to demonstrate that they were: a nun built an electric chair as a "punishment" for the First Nations children. A nun... So far, I have not heard that any of the kids bore marks of deadly violence, so it's probable that some large fraction died of disease exacerbated by malnutrition and hunger. Some education and the reason I will not use "residential schools" and instead call them prison/labour camps because that's what they were. The last one did not close until 1996!

saw what men in a bad dream could do
they would not die a clean death
so they covered the eyes of the children
and made no move to run.
The old women knew it was time.
    All along the creek bank
they sat with their eyes wide open
watching and rocking the swaddled children
and when the soldiers opened fire
    they tumbled into the creek,
the dead children in their arms
    with eyes covered
    so they would not see
what men in a bad dream could do.
    All along the creek bank
The old women knew how to move
    from one dream to another

    the old women knew
what men in a bad dream could do.
