She shoots! She scores! Rat Basketball?

How is rat basketball possible? By employing the use of operant conditioning, or rewarding/punishing a subject for good/bad behavior, the Science Museum of Virginia has successfully trained a handful of rats to play "rat basketball." The four month training process has multiple stages of learning for the rat, which include touching the ball, then touching the ball with its mouth, then grabbing the ball, and finally putting the ball through a hoop. After each of these actions is completed correctly, the rat is rewarded with food.
