Interesting listening to this rumination on your channel, we do tend to react fairly quickly to shifts & concerns early on, don't we? It's curious. Thanks for another wonderful video - very engaging. I'm a slow reader also, nothing better, sheer delight. I am really interested in virtue ethics, but then I love Aristotle, it's an area I need to focus on much more. Um, I haven't read enough Jane Austen, don't know why... Ah, your wife's the poetry enthusiast, she sounds amazing. NZ poetry is booming, many of my favourite poets are Kiwis. Thanks for another engaging & very enjoyable video.
Than you so much, Phillip! And yes, it is curious... . I adore virtue ethics; and all that it entails! Austen is one to explore, so something good to look forward to. I must likewise explore poetry. Thanks for the comments!!
So good to hear your responses - this is The Evolution of a Booktuber tag which I actually created for my 4th Booktube birthday back in September! I also started my channel without showing my face, so interesting that you did too. Fascinating what you had to say about epistemic vice. I'll be interested on your thoughts on Austen. Do it for you is the best advice on starting a channel. Hello to your grandson!
Great creation! Yes - epistemic vice has curtailed my enjoyment for so many years, but no longer! Virginia Woolf has done much to alter that. And my grandson says hello to you! Merry Season et al.
Thanks for the tag! I’ve tried to make my channel a reflection of me and my various reading interests. I’m a little worried that a chunk of my subscribers may only care for the LoTR videos or what have you but I mean view disparity between videos isn’t necessarily bad. There are types of books I don’t typically read but I am open to reading suggestions and trying things someone mentions that I wouldn’t otherwise read. It’s good to keep our curiosity and to be open-minded. Also, I know you said you want thinkers as opposed to fans but you have a fan in me so apologies. 😅
Lol. You are a thinker, Sean! it is amazing what happens with hits... my own foray so far into LoTR is my least viewed video! I will have a go with viewer suggestions... let's see! Cheers!
Great video, Mark! ☺️ I sympathise with your struggles with Jane Austen as i have encountered difficulties myself. I'm on a journey of perseverance with her at the moment. I loved how you came across her works in a shop. I think you are right, the universe has spoken.😃 Thank you for the wonderful advice at the end of the video, Mark. You are absolutely right about fear holding us back. Im not a booktuber(although ive considered doing so) but much of what you spoke of was a gentle reminder to myself to apply these things to other areas of my life, so thank you very much!! ☺️ Looking forward to 'You are what you read' Sounds fascinating. 😃
Thank you Zoe. I will shortly embark on Austen with the help of my daughter. Wish me luck! The universe HAS spoken. Advice aside, I should pay heed too. Lol. Cheers!
Good luck with Jane Austin, Mark!😃 I have struggled for some time with her books but desperately want to 'get' her the way so many others have. It's not the genre, necessary. I just found it tricky to keep up with who's who etc. I recently read Sense and Sensibility and I thought it was fairly good, so I can tick one off of the list.☺️ I will keep trying but I guess we can't like or gel with every book we pick up. Yes, I think we can all benefit from a few wise words from time to time. Your advice was wonderful and I think anyone having heard it would benefit hugely. Thanks again for another fabulous video!! 😃
@@zoenorman9846 I shall take my daughter's advice on Austen [she has agreed to do an episode with me] ... she thinks Mansfield Park might be the best launch point. So, let's see! Thanks for the kind words!
How lovely to have your daughter on the channel!☺️ I haven't tried to tackle Mansfield Park yet so I shall be interested in hearing what you both think. 😃
Wow, such relatable answers here! I, too, think the book is the star, not me. However, I can’t just sit and film a book while reciting “offscreen” because I’m too expressive and tend to talk with my hands quite a bit. It’s a quirk of mine. Also, I want thinkers, not fans. I’ve NEVER gone into this expecting loads of followers, and still don’t. I’d absolutely be content with just 1 or 2 followers that were thinkers than 1- or 2-thousand/million that follow “just because it’s Trav” only to have them swipe out 10 seconds into the video anyway. My purpose on here is to promote and discuss books, the products of someone else’s creation! I enjoy bringing attention to authors. About thumbnails, I’ve never understood those. Like yourself, I can’t do the thumbnails pose either. I personally think thumbnails are a waste. I mean, once they’re clicked on, that’s it. They’re not even technically in the video itself, just an attraction device. All that said, I simply don’t want to waste extra time creating something that not only is going to be used in that capacity but is also not very original: so many thumbnails look exactly alike. It detracts from the look of variety when browsing, if that makes sense. These are all just my personal feelings, of course. But I am amazed by your approach to this tag. This is why you are an inspiration to me.
Likewise, Trav, you too are an inspiration. Tags are important because we need something. Something is better than nothing.. and the biggest book tuber of recent times has little or no thought into them so what do I know? Like you - I don't get them, apart from how humans are visual. And I am a fan of yours!
Welcome! I'd love to know if you watch - please, leave a comment!
Three cheers for epistemic virtue! Great all around advice, thanks
Cheers, sir!! Viva a la Virtud Epistemica!!
Fascinating answers to this video :)
I have remind myself to look at the camera too 😂
Thanks!
I loved this! So engaging and encouraging! Thank you for doing the tag!
You're welcome!
