Master and Commander! I’ve always wanted to read it! Looks like it’s on my list for 2025. And you have inspired me to “take a ramble” also! You’re the best❤

Thanks on all points. Master and Commander is fun, but difficult to get in to at first because the author is very technical... he wants to show his mastery of old ships. So good luck!

Thanks for tagging me, much appreciated! I’ll have a ponder and see what answers come to me.
I’ve only read the first Aubrey-Maturin book so far, one of these days I’ll try the next one!

Good luck with the tag! The Aubreyiad can be dense, because the author does not info dump - you have to research so much yourself to keep up! Good luck!

I've read neither author, but I've heard Patrick O'Brien and James Michener praised so often on BookTube that I guess I'll have to try them sooner or later. I remember my parents watching that Centennial series. I'd occasionally ask them how "Centurion" was going, much to their mild irritation. That was my version of a "rebellious" phase. 🙄
Wow, I will definitely be checking out your other channel! Plato's ideal society creeps me out, but I understand the importance of the work. I'm still trying to figure out what the heck is going on in The Timaeus though. 😵‍💫 And I very much enjoy "Consolation." I might be about due for a re-read.
Great video, as usual. Have a good one.

I haven't reached any Patrick O'Brian, must get to it, think I'd really enjoy him. Ah yes, I love 'Republic', it's a bit of a boy's own adventure, but I love it. And I must read Boethius, always meant to, so must prioritise this. Thanks for the inspiration, you have given me much to ponder. You did a wonderful job, Mark, but I always look forward to your videos.

Hi Mark! A really enjoyable tag with lots of interesting responses. Patrick O'Brian sounds a wonderful author. I haven't read anything by him as yet. I must add him to my list of authors to get to.
I love Spike Milligan's humour. He's certainly one of a kind and yes, i think i recall reading something funny about his gravestone.😆
Great to hear of the upcoming video on the Republic!! I shall look forward to listening to it. Lovely story how you reconnected with your friend after so long and have started a youtube channel together. Like yourself, I'm not religious but scripture is certainly a fascinating topic!!
Great video as always, Mark 😃

Thanks, Zoe. O"Brian certainly has a cult following. Especially in the States. Spike was a true eccentric - whom we seem to be losing en masse - and a wonderful original. Republic up next.

I didn't know that about O'Brian. A great thing about book tube is hearing of such wonderful authors.☺️
I agree, Milligan was absolutely an eccentric. So true, many of the greats from back in the day have sadly left us😔.
Fantastic news about the Republic video! Looking forward to it.😃

The Consolation of Philosophy, Republic, and the Bible are very important reads. I am hopeful to actually grab a couple different translations of the Bible since I only really read KJV. I'm also too wishy-washy with what language I feel like learning(too many) but I am leaning toward Hebrew currently for the sake of reading the Hebrew bible. I could read and speak it relatively well as a young boy while going to Synagogue so maybe that will help me relearn it even though I've essentially forgotten it all.

I've been very happy with the LSB version of the Bible. I'm such a stickler and I have tried many versions and ended up with this one. Approachable and what I especially appreciate is that it capitalizes the holy pronouns (He vs. he when speaking of the Lord).

      @book-ramble  29 дней назад +2

I have the Jewish Bible myself - thankfully in English; and you are right with the language: the KJV did a wonderful job in the main, but lost some nuances with the original Aramaic to Greek to Latin etc. A scintillating topic in itself!!
