As in many "pro" DVDs the audio was remastered and fixed in studio, I'm not saying Halford is not a good singer, Priest is by far my favorite band ever, Rob is one of my favorite singers, but I know him too well, I can easily identify this audio as not 100% legit.

halford was given a once in a lifetime instrument. everyone can learn to sing but being able to do what rob does is natural talent. he distorts his tone quality while still coloring it and making it resonate. all that plus you can understand every word he says, not something you can say about a lot of metal vocalists. rob is an artist of the highest caliber

  • @xxJirenzaRxx

Now THIS is what I've been thinking for many years... I'm sure that if Priest would've played this song among the first fve or six songs of their set, when Rob's voice was all rested up and ready to fire on all cylinders, this song would've sounded so much better live, and it would've saved Rob a whole deal of problems and struggling performances. Instead, they always decided to play it at the final portion of the set, and being so extremely demanding vocal-wise, it's no surprise Rob couldn't handle it at the top of his game; many times having to strain his voice beyond the necessary limits, to the point where nowadays he unfortunately can't properly sing it live anymore, and the song had to be taken out of the set. We also must take into account that Rob was about to turn 40 when the "Painkiller" album originally came out, so he wasn't already at his prime, thus the idea of playing it at the beginning of the set only made more sense for me. I don't know why they (Priest) never gave this a try, however I'm glad that Rob himself did pull it off on the "Crucible" tour and left us with this amazing rendition of one of metal's greatest tunes.

@@Swedishoutlaw thats a misconception. Typical guitar player " Dick contest " metal thing argument haha.
You know thats false if you know really all in details ..
      Different approaches .
Also Glenn did serve himself , not necessary the band .
So KK had less space in certain era .
That made you the impression of Glenn as the guitar player .
But the heavier riffs , or darker and More out of the box or.mourning stuff
      Kk
Glenn is more studied but a bit too much written over the years .
KK is more disturbing and abstracts.
Its the Miles davis approach on guitar in some ways .
Who said Miles can't play .
Modern metal guys can't get that kind of mindset .
KK have a lot melody that most people doesnt notice even thats him ( Before the dawn etc...) .
Live , KK is far more solid than Glenn
And KK improvise , so he goes in danger , and rarely fuck up .
Glenn never improvise , and he is a bit out there even rythmically as connexion block groove goes in the rythm section as KK is .
Glenn is kind of disconnected .
      A bit out
And his booze and coke stuff didnt help sometimes .
      So its relative .
Also the slogan till this day " Pushing tbe boundaries ".
      Thats KK behind ..

Math may have been off a bit. I was 52 in 2013, five years ago, 57 in 2018.
If Rob was 52 in 2003, he turns 67 at the end of August, this year 2018. And so...62 in 2013?
    :-)
    Math was not off. Nice.
    Rob was born in 1951.
    I was born in 1961.
He's August, I'm January but...still almost 10 years older than me.
And I deleted my old comment by mistake, so obviously this is not five years ago. August 2018.

Honestly, this is a great performance. Vocally, very difficult.. .and the solo is fantastic. This is NOT a Priest cover band. And it is a live performance. Rob DID sing this song SPOT on in 1990... that was many years after this. No athlete can duplicate their performance 13 years later. THIS man is iconic. He soars ..and tries to reach lofty vocal heights DECADES after studios recordings ...no one else can do this. RIPPER was singing Priest songs many years after they were recorded. He is GIFTED and should be judged on how he moves the needle of rock forward on his own...

Halford are like an even heavier meaner more brutal version of Judas Priest.
    If that's even possible.
Bobby Jarzombek is killing it on the drums here.
Said it 5 years ago, still holds true in 2018.
(Scott Travis with Judas Priest does it better but...it's really his song on drums. Bob still kills this.)
No one else can hit Rob's vocal notes.
Especially not on this song. Speaking of totally killing it.
(I just tried listening to Ken Tamplin "sing" this song.
RUclips vocal instructor? Butchered it, more like.
He couldn't even start it on the same note or the same pitch or octave.
    Not even close.
Ken dropped his vocal easily one probably two whole octaves.
Where Rob goes at the END of Painkiller.
    NOT the beginning.
That would be how NOT to sing Painkiller, Mr. Tamplin.
And you teach people to sing? Seriously?
You were not even in the vicinity of Rob's astonishingly high range.
    Do not kid yourself.)

      - From a shitless slave region of humanism being suffered under hoon-tribe-originated-parasitism and kiki'she' collectivism which is known as the name 'Korea', whose dwellers always steals and begs from Japan's original history which clearly inherited sincere humanity in Ancient Cudara more than its 'original' dwellers in hometown.
