hahaha was just thinking that same thing lol.... amazing. I saw them in the 80's and if you close your eyes he still sounds the same... almost Impossible.
2:59 That moment when the song picks up even another level and requires Rob to keep singing brutally. And like the vet that he is,he digs his heels down, gets in his zone, and handles it.
Glad to read someone noticing him. They guy is a precision machine and a perfect metal drummer. Most amazing metal drummers are underrated, because they played for lesser known bands (Hannes Grossmann comes to mind too).
Robs voice sounds so perfect on this video. I have been a Priest fan for years but I prefer the Halford band myself. A friend turned me on to Fight years ago as well. Rob is a great frontman and a kick ass metal personality. This music is in his DNA and it shows.
People usually say that was the Painkiller tour that blew up Halford's voice and that he never sung the same nor managed to hit the high notes the same way after. The truth however seems to be that Resurrection was the album and tour that truly damaged his voice the most. It's awseome to see that he could sing like this, but after doing it for months every single show, it's evident that it took it's toll on him
I definitely think it's just an age thing. You can hear in most recent performances that his high notes have taken a dip, however, his low and mid have become crisp.
By 2002 his head voice was destroyed and shifted into a very unpleasant and weak sound. You can hear it on the next album (Crucible 2002) and that entire tour, he just couldn't sing resurrection anymore the same way. Even in Live Insurrection which was recorded 6 months after this show it was already noticeable a little bit if you pay attention on Into The Pit. The man had to make a comeback and said fuck it, I'll show the world what I can do and blew his pipes in the process but it was the most majestic 2 years of singing I have ever heard and it's immortalized forever in the Live in Chile 2001 show, Rock in Rio 2001, Live in London 2000 and Live Insurrection.
Only people I can think of that is older in age and hasn’t really lost much at all in voice is king diamond and Lou Gramm (Foreigner) but he’s an entirely different breed. I’ve heard Halford lately and it’s just age, definitely not damage or blowing anything out. He still sounds stellar!
Lethal band right there! This lineup helped bring Metal back to the forefront. Many thanks. Almost twenty years later, Metal lives. HAIL THE METAL GOD!!!!
Try to imagine... you meet this guy dressed that way in the street, you don't know him, he comes close to you, he's a big man, his look is frightening and then he asks if you got a lighter with this cartoon voice... wouldn't you laugh to tears? I would...
Dude, when I heard this track for the first it blew my head off!! Your voice is like a circular saw!! And the evolution of your voice to this perfection is amazing!
This album has been my go to crimbo album since its release but why has the tube decided to stick it in my feed on what has been the hottest day of the year so far. In the middle of july. Still listened to it of course
Absolutely brilliant and flawless vocals backed by an incredible band that performs an absolutely killer performance live, this is why we f@@@in love Metal as the purity is utterly mesmerising.
I listened this song numerous times but, I just realised that in 1:21, when Rob says "my past" he really sound like his voice back when he was in Judas Priest. I'm fascinated...
I remember this. We are from Brazil. We already had the CD album "Ressurection". So my brother watch this on TV, then shaved his head and bought a rayban and a military t-shirt. What a look :) Nice.
Man, I remember buying a bootleg DVD of this show on Ebay when I was a kid, must've been back in '02 or '03. Killer show, except the bootleg I got had issues with the sound and you could not hear Pat Lachman's guitar at all. This lineup is the best solo band Rob ever had. Great stuff.
Judas Priest is Halford's throne. This band is competent yet nowhere in league with Downing, Tipton, Hill, and company. Long Live The Beat that is Priest!
I love JP, but this is literally my favourite Rob's record. Great musicians bringing tornado of souls on the stage ;-) My dream is to see them live again.
I was there, today at 40 and enjoying it a lot... that day I was 19, gargling, I lost my voice, my voice came back, stomping, pushing, pogo wheels. Imagine Igor Cavalera with his bass drums that looked like atomic bombs, Halford arrived on a flying machine + Judas classics and I won't even comment on Iron, it was a massacre. There's no way to explain, the guys weren't that old actually they were in high performance all the bands. See, the sound was so crystalline like a CD (at least where I was). The sound waves pushed (impression) stuff loko d+. I went to several, many shows later but this is my precious one haha \m/
Saw Rob with Priest 2 or 3 years ago in Bradford, England , with Schenker and what a mega gig it was. Rob came out on stage with a cane in his hand with an almost steampunk metal persona. Awseome gig, awseome sound , left the gig totally fulfilled !
( ROB HALFORD IS A METAL GOD// SHOW ME ANYONE WHO HAS MAINTAINED METAL VOCAL SUPREMACY AS LONG AS MR. HALFORD? THE ANSWER IS NO ONE CAN MAINTAIN ROB'S INTENSITY FOR OVER 40 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
His voice is fucking otherworldly here
I heard all this material LIVE at the Tacoma Dome. He actually drove his chopper up onto the right side of the stage, then he did THIS so sweet!
It's Incredible how much underrated his personal carrer is
I can't believe he can still hit that pitch throughout entire song.
Piece Of Powerslave I
He is older than my dad and mom.. A metal god! \m/
hahaha was just thinking that same thing lol.... amazing. I saw them in the 80's and if you close your eyes he still sounds the same... almost Impossible.
metal god bro
That video is from Rock in Rio 2001 , almost 20 years ago. Yet Halford still can reach high notes but maybe not as frequent as before.
For about 3 minutes I was totally sure it was playback, but no... he is THAT PERFECT
We're you though
I'm was there... Was real!
He is so perfect by singing and brutally nice imperfections he make because he wants
the intro screaming is the studio vocal
Best Metal Singer All Times.
Felix Moreno Hidalgo Fucking A.
Damn. Um yeah
And this band is incredible
YES
the return of the metal god...
He never left us faithful.
This album is an absolute masterpiece 🤟
I was there on that amazing day. As much as i love maiden, Halford completely stole the show that night. A pure fucking metal lesson.
DerSteppenwolf1979 that's so cool man
2:59 That moment when the song picks up even another level and requires Rob to keep singing brutally. And like the vet that he is,he digs his heels down, gets in his zone, and handles it.
he kept singing exactly the same way ..
Bobby Jarzombek, one of the best and most underrated drummers on the history of metal.
Totally agree dude, Bobby is a total beast and precision machine
Glad to read someone noticing him. They guy is a precision machine and a perfect metal drummer. Most amazing metal drummers are underrated, because they played for lesser known bands (Hannes Grossmann comes to mind too).
I think he plays with George Strait now.
Hands down ths is the best live vocal performance Rob has ever done, the clarity of his voice, the notes he hits, start to finish just incredible
Rob Halford, the best ever. And his backing band is awesome too.
Real deal here , no lipsync or autotune , real deal still hitting the high pitch notes like a boss !!!! Rock on metal god !! :)
Halford is Freddie Mercury of metal music.
2 gays
@@henriquedotriangulo who are master singers , but you yourself? you are just gay
Freddie would like to sing as Rob.
I respect your comment, but other singers are compared to the Metal God, not the other way around!
and more ..
Halford is the metal king.
Rob’s voice gives me goosebumps and makes the hairs on my neck stand up!
He is definitely one of the best of all time
hitting those notes throughout the song isn't a joke indeed! the greatest voice of metal!
best voice in the universe
Halford kicking vocal ass on this. No question for me on the best metal vocal of all time.
Robs voice sounds so perfect on this video. I have been a Priest fan for years but I prefer the Halford band myself. A friend turned me on to Fight years ago as well. Rob is a great frontman and a kick ass metal personality. This music is in his DNA and it shows.
Should check him out 2to with Rob Halford it's the band he started b4 fight
His metal awesomeness is hotter than the surface of the sun
One of his best performances!
I was there with my son. Great show. Hugs, Ronaldo, Rio.
This is a great concert. Halford is in excellent voice here, and looking totally badass.
Rob Halford's Vocals have aged VERY well
Rob Halford is the metal god, hail to the king of metal.

I don't think it's about singing too much. In age, every high pitch vocalist have problems in time. The only exception I know is Kiske atm.
I definitely think it's just an age thing. You can hear in most recent performances that his high notes have taken a dip, however, his low and mid have become crisp.

Listen to Serpent King (2024). Unreal......at 73

Damn, I just love this song! Truly energetic, and what a message it delivers as a comeback! Halford's performance is just unreal too, as always.
Dude, when I heard this track for the first it blew my head off!!
Your voice is like a circular saw!!
And the evolution of your voice to this perfection is amazing!
