  • The invasive Burmese Python, native to Burma, is a huge problem for Florida's Everglades. For the last 20 years there has been an average decline in 98% of the everglades' small mammal population, and the Python is suspected to be the root of that.

    Put a decent bounty on them, allow people to hunt 365 days a year and watch how quick they can be eliminated. Mankind is real good at wiping things out if there is money involved so lets put that talent to work.

      Yes, why would this be so difficult? Put out traps with live bait say a chicken or even a dead chicken in a trap along places where gators are unlikely to travel. Hunt them with infrared or whatever it is, heat seeking, sell the hides and give the meat to the other wildlife. Above all just kill them. Don't worry about the conservation nonsense. When they run out of prey, by wiping them out, they will die off anyway so who cares.

    Hounds with protective gear . Not one single python can hide from hounds. You can hunt them to extinction with hounds. You can find them in the water, on the shore, their nests. Everything . They make jackets for pitbulls , just modify those a bit and you'll find every snake in the Everglades.

    Yes, I don't know what I'm talking about but why take all the time, money and energy to relocate them? Everyone carries a machete or a .22 rifle. You locate the snake, chop its head off or shoot it and then move on. Much more efficient.

      I think you are sensible and have the right idea. I really would like to know what is positive about having all these snakes around. I can maybe understand if you are overrun with small animals but I really don't know what else. I am an animal lover but they are times when you have to go back to the basics and just destroy them. On some of the survival shows they are cooked and eaten quite a lot.

    They spend way too much time capturing each snake when they find them. This is a very serious situation and there is absolutely no need to play humanitarian with snakes that have wiped out two indigenous animal populations. If they have a hard time shooting these pythons then experiment a little bit and find the appropriate size shot and best distance to dispatch these snakes with a shotgun. After it has been shot then chop its head off and bag it and leave the rest of its carcass behind. But don't waste time because those creatures are running out of food and when they do move on someone's child may very well be next.

    • @eltigre249

    As with most problems the reason it exists is because a certain group of people want it to exist. The Florida Game and Fish Dept. have guaranteed jobs as long as the snakes, pigs and lion fish exist. Another job well done by another Government agency. I wonder how fast these "Problems" would disappear if the people of Florida got rid of the G+F and took care of them themselves. I know, just dreaming. Carry on G+F. These folks that breed hybrid snakes or snakes period at home are mostly to blame for this crisis. Life has its ups and downs and folks financials change drastically, like losing a job or a home. When that happens people leave their pets behind. Stop breeding snakes for
      financial gain! Living in a shoe box isn't a life worth living! It's cruel and unnatural! Picking a mate isn't natural. Forcing 2 different snake species isn't natural or right. Thats like forcing a human into a shoe box and picking them a mate to procreate with so you can make more money selling the babies! The whole practice has to go!

      @@Therealjoeycallen Yes, that's what started the problem about 10 years before Hurricane Andrew. Pet owners and exotic wildlife exhibitors who could no longer care for the pythons released them into the wild. Then during Hurricane Andrew in 1992 thousands of specimens of exotic species, including Burmese pythons, escaped from not only homes, but also from exotic wildlife facilities.

    Sometimes, if a species has created such an upset to the lands and wildlife, then it is a smart option to open a hunting initiative. This initiative, in the case of an invasive species such as this, should prove to have value on a market for snake skins. This is a positive way to create the necessary licensing or certification programs for humane hunting, killing, and utilization of the meats & skins that this snake offers. Proceeds from selling skins can be then allocated back into new revitalization programs for species fallen due to it's respective rise. IDENTIFY-CONTROL-PROCESS-REVITALIZE= JOBS!

    • @imatelly
      @imatelly 10 лет назад +3

      i agree but neither were tacos till people started buying them.
      its not the taste of the meat its how it is cooked and what its in.
      take beef and make a burger using 0 salt and its not as good. add equal portions of bread and beef together then and salt its much better mix the salt with the beef instead of sprinkling it on the top its even better.
      first person to make it taste good in some way and to facebook the results with reviews of a 3 star or more will bank. considering people dont want to eat snake right this second.

    • @ProtinPictures
      @ProtinPictures 9 лет назад +2

      ***** Unfortunately, neither hunting them or eating them will work as they are virtually impossible to find. The everglades, where the pythons are an issue, covers and immense swath of land and is nearly impossible to traverse. The only time people find them is when they venture on the periphery of the everglades - soaking up the sun on the sides of roads. The actually did a hunt for the pythons not too long ago, and it was generally a failure for the reasons above.

    • @imatelly
      @imatelly 9 лет назад +1

      Protin Pictures pigs are impossible to get rid of in the south but they have people that catch and kill them. usually its 100 bucks per pig and they get to keep the meat. alligators are dangerous and protected so people farm them and let them go. on top of that they have people get tags and catch so many a year for meat and hide.
      the python being a problem creates economic demand and the people hunting them will come up with plenty of ways to find them. it would also bring down the cost of snake skin things.
      so we do nothing and cry about it or bank on it like the capitalists that we are.
      saying we cant do anything because one person tried, is not how life works. you adapt an understand you have a million more options. did apple make a great iphone yet? nope but they never gave up and still to this day people buy the crap.

    If a Zoo here in California had its snake enclosures destroyed from an earthquake or a storm like how Florida had from a Hurricane that started all this mess, along with the public letting loose their over sized Pythons they could no longer handle, here they would have no where to breed, California is a semi tropical state more towards the arid side because of its large lower and high deserts that take up 1/4 of the state while the rest of the state has no swamp lands at all and is mostly the wrong climate for such snakes.
    We did have about a thousand different species of tropical birds let loose from our Busch Gardens back in the 1970's when they were removing the rides and some piece of a roller coaster hit these enclosures perfectly letting free Macaw's and all kinds of Parrots now making Los Angeles their home with no affects on the local habitat. But can they be noisy!
