Her girl next door vocal characterization in The Perils Of Pauline were perfect as was her entire performance. When you see her sing this song you hang on every word and believe them. What a treasure she was.
I've heard this song sung many times by other artists, but none of them affect me as much as the way Betty sings it,it always makes me tearful.love you Betty!!
I know this song because my mom used to sing it around the house when I was growing up. It popped into my head this evening and I went in search of it. It's so lovely, and takes me back.
I got introduced to 40s music through Fallout (the video game), the day I decided to explore Betty Hutton's music I totally fell in love, can't listen to her songs without smiling like an idiot. I think I need to start watching 40s movies too.
I've never been a big Betty Hutton fan, but she owns this song. I've heard renditions from better vocalists, yet only this version brings me to tears. The simple, sincere way her voice breaks at just the right points is more than singing or acting, its living the song.
OMG, I couldn't have said it better. LIsa you are so right, she owns this song. Im a big Aretha and Kd fan but there is something about Betty"s version that is so touching. I just wish they would have givin her more serious balleds to sing instead of the quirky comedy songs.
I saw betty on the Robert Osborn show. Something about her and this song captivated me. I did about 5 hrs. of research and was able to trace down the executor of her estate. We met and visited at his house in Pals Springs. While there my wife took our dog out side. He told us how to get to the Cemetery where she was buried. We went and visited her and as I left, I put my hand on her head stone and said I hope you have the happiness you deserve. The next day, I'm cleaning our bird bath and a emerald throated humming bird comes up to within 4 feet of me and hovers there for about 30 seconds and then slowly flies away. I told my wife about it the next day. She then told me the most remarkable story. That the previous day when she took the dog outside a Humming bird come right up to her and followed her an the dog around for several minutes. You draw your own conclusion but I think it was betty giving us her permission and attention and telling us she was happy. God bless her. RIP POD on 1170am The bob and Diana Baumer show SD,CA.
Beautiful!! I love this song so much...Betty Hutton was wonderful..love to hear her sing...she was such a sweet singer. She always makes me cry when she sings this song. We only have a few artists who sing this kind of ballads today...perhaps MÉAV NI MHAOLCHATHA of Dublin, Ireland is one of them. Both ladies sing beautifully.
No one sings it better. Ray Conniff singers might have but they mixed it with Bewitched Bothered & Bewildered. I Love that version but when it comes to just 'Wish I Didn't Love You So' no one beats Betty.
Lovely, pure rendition - are there any singers today who sing like this? Today's accompanying musical background too often drowns out any kind of feeling of tenderness. Suppose it's impossible for the singer to tap into the tender emotions of a receptive listener.
My grandpa mentioned this in his love letters to my grandmother as “their song” I’d never heard it until now they’re both gone. Thank you for uploading such a nice recording!
Yo no había nacido todavía cuando esta preciosa melodía estaba muy de moda, pero me fascina, ya que me ambienta y me sitúa imaginariamente en la vida romántica de los EEUU de los años 40s. ¡¡Hermosa Época!!
Betty had some nice ballads during the 40's but I think the public enjoyed her rowdy type songs because of the war and it helped to ease them a bit. She loved performing for the service men in ww 2 and korea. She was a great performer during those dark days and I think she was great.
I agree that Betty "felt" her lyrics, which made her good interpreter. I think that she sometimes hammed up to hide her feelings and protect herself. She had a very troubled childhood which affected her enter life.
SHE HAS BEEN GONE FROM THIS WORLD FOR A LONG TIME. BUT STILL IT FEELS LIKE IF SHE IS STILL ALIVE SINGING A LOVE IS BLUE SONG. THAT'S A GREAT SONG. SHEE HAD A GREAT VOICE. MAYBE KELLY CLARKSON IS THE REINCARNATION OF BETTY HUTTON?
Just read her autobiography...she should have been given better movie roles and had better directors...no one will ever compare to Betty...not even Judy.
I've just discovered Betty, I couldn't agree more.. This is a very special person. I wish I could have met her and perhaps been of some help later on in her career.. Gorgeous good woman, can't be denied. David Reid
I have been a fan of Betty Hutton for many years and I would agree with r4b32t11. Her sister Marion was the singer in the family but Betty was a great all round actress. Credit must also go to Frank Loesser whom I believe was a fantastic song writer. His Musical Guys & Dolls is superb. Her Swansong has yet to be written.
+Tony Farrell Don't miss the full score of Loesser's The Most Happy Fellow. There's a pretty good live recording on RUclips. It starts with a great version of "Ooh, my feet!"
My husband has a 45 of Mel Carter (best known for Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me) doing this song in the '60s. Mindblowing. Get your hands on it if you can.
She sings that first note of each verse so softly and gently it sounds just like Bunny Berigan's muted trumpet playing the melody in Tommy Dorseys's Song Of India!
Vocal talent is not everything🤣 have you listened to this crap on the radio??? People arent even singing anymore🤣 she is freddy mercury compared to wiz khalifa🤣🤣
Betty had a heartbreak life she was a true trooper the cast of Annie get your gun was against her for taking the role of Annie. Judy Garland was strung out on pills and alcohol and was fired from the picture and was replaced by Betty. The movie was a big hit.
Sixty three years ago my mom surprised me saying we were going downtown to see a movie. We took the West Adams bus in L.A. all the way to the Paramount Theater. And we saw Betty Hutton in Annie Get Your Gun. The real movies, the real Hollywood, the real stars. How lucky I was. Go to the Paramount today, and the films are all in Spanish, your shoes stick to the floor and the rats shine them for you.
I just saw the tribute paid by Robert Osborne this weekend. She was so wonderful and delicate like the lady in the Glass Menagerie. I am 75 and kind of remember her but the closing song on Robert Osborne broke my heart. I have a radio show every Sun from 9am to10 am and then its replayed every Wed night. Its 1170am I would love to interview her children. One lived in Palm Springs. My daughter lived there. It would be a loving and kind show. Please call Robert Baumer at 619-497-0054
oh, I thought Betty sang better than Marion - whose voice was rather tinny and she tended to sing a bit off-key. Marion didn't have this type of warmth in her phrasing. A great singer? no. but a very dear one.
These two singers are the best of this song-no contest! Kd's to me is the best! Even more powerful, soulful, and deeply felt. I truly love them both! ♥️🤗😢👍
She was all heart, NOT a great singer but meant every word. Her sister Marion was the singer in the family. I wish they would release Betty's movies on DVD.
No one sings it like Betty.....just sooo very meaningful and sad
The very best!❤😢
Miss her and her fabulous talent!
Betty sings this song from the 1947 movie 🎥 The Perils of Pauline, soulfully & hauntingly beautiful.
Her girl next door vocal characterization in The Perils Of Pauline were perfect as was her entire performance. When you see her sing this song you hang on every word and believe them. What a treasure she was.
You go, Betty! ❤
I've heard this song sung many times by other artists, but none of them affect me as much as the way Betty sings it,it always makes me tearful.love you Betty!!
Finding a beautiful song like this is like falling in love....I'm in love again.
I don't believe anyone will top Betty's rendition.
This song was recorded before stereo and it is just beautiful. Excellent job Betty.
I know this song because my mom used to sing it around the house when I was growing up. It popped into my head this evening and I went in search of it. It's so lovely, and takes me back.

Beautiful ❤
Love this song & Betty's rendition! Shows she could do a lot more than just belt 'em. (Altho her livelier songs are great also.)
Every time I hear Betty sing this song, she breaks my heart. Her performance of the number in the delightful PERILS OF PAULINE is just perfect.
I've never been a big Betty Hutton fan, but she owns this song. I've heard renditions from better vocalists, yet only this version brings me to tears. The simple, sincere way her voice breaks at just the right points is more than singing or acting, its living the song.
yep!

@@robertbaumer4292 Oh - You have me in tears now - what a lovely special experience - we never know, do we, what may be?

MÉAV NI MHAOLCHATHA of Dublin, Ireland is one of them. Both ladies sing beautifully.
A beautiful song by Betty from long ago
I love this song - this is my favorite version
Some may sing it better. But no one makes you feel as good as Betty did when she sang a song. They came from the heart.
+Jack Hunden Amen, Jack. She was all heart in everything she did. When I hear her sing this it always makes me tear up.
Art Ross ....me too....
No one sings it better. Ray Conniff singers might have but they mixed it with Bewitched Bothered & Bewildered. I Love that version but when it comes to just 'Wish I Didn't Love You So' no one beats Betty.
Frank Loesser!
This song always moves me deeply, thinking of a dead lover of mine who I still and always shall adore.
what a voice. no one compares to her today.
betty had personality and charm she was a great star i remember her in annie get your gun she was fantastic
Lovely wistful song. A 40s standard
But no one can sing it like Betty Hutton!
Best song ever
Love the movie.
Lovely, pure rendition - are there any singers today who sing like this? Today's accompanying musical background too often drowns out any kind of feeling of tenderness. Suppose it's impossible for the singer to tap into the tender emotions of a receptive listener.
A beautiful song sung by a lovely, talented woman.
Such a pretty voice.
Thank you for the quality video of this beautiful song..
My grandpa mentioned this in his love letters to my grandmother as “their song” I’d never heard it until now they’re both gone. Thank you for uploading such a nice recording!

After hearing this song i want to fall in love again... 😑

She did it the best
Beautiful

she never gave a bad performance
Betty was such an energetic woman! I tried finding "It had to be you" but weirdly I can't find it no more
She was great……...
Betty was the best
Just read her autobiography...she should have been given better movie roles and had better directors...no one will ever compare to Betty...not even Judy.
I've just discovered Betty, I couldn't agree more.. This is a very special person. I wish I could have met her and perhaps been of some help later on in her career.. Gorgeous good woman, can't be denied. David Reid
I think this is because she has lived exactly what she is singing.
@@lyndafouhy7645 exactly right....if you read her autobiography you will know.

Betty!
"I Wish I Didn't Love You So" has been covered by many artists including Peggy Lee, Dinah Shore, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, and k.d. lang.
Beautiful! Along with Betty, Frank, K.D. etc , you might want to hear Dick Haymes version, it si just as nice.
My husband has a 45 of Mel Carter (best known for Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me) doing this song in the '60s. Mindblowing. Get your hands on it if you can.
Great song
I'll take Betty Hutton her rendition was Unforgettable
I always preferred when she sang more seriously.
She sings that first note of each verse so softly and gently it sounds just like Bunny Berigan's muted trumpet playing the melody in Tommy Dorseys's Song Of India!
Not a remarkable show of vocal talent but this is a truly emotional recording. Beautiful
Vocal talent is not everything🤣 have you listened to this crap on the radio??? People arent even singing anymore🤣 she is freddy mercury compared to wiz khalifa🤣🤣
SÅ FINT
Thank You Vintage Radio! #OldWorldRadioBoston
KD Lang recently came out with her version of this song which was done equally as well.
Love Ray Conniff singers version of this song but it doesn't beat Betty. Just soulful. Makes me want to take her hand and join her on the dance floor.
Who sing this song for the first time? I was fall in love when it was sang by Aretha Franklin in her Love Songs album!
Love her AD
Betty had a heartbreak life she was a true trooper the cast of Annie get your gun was against her for taking the role of Annie. Judy Garland was strung out on pills and alcohol and was fired from the picture and was replaced by Betty. The movie was a big hit.
Betty had a beautiful voice she should have sung more ballads instead of crazy up beat songs.
Like "Murder," He Says?

+Reuben Hart There's nothing wrong with Spanish movies!
Of Course, absolutely, you are right .... as long as you can speak Spanish - hee hee

Nice rendition; actually the most popular version of this was by Vaughn Monroe.
oh, I thought Betty sang better than Marion - whose voice was rather tinny and she tended to sing a bit off-key. Marion didn't have this type of warmth in her phrasing. A great singer? no. but a very dear one.
K.D. Lang did a pretty good version of this song...very similar to this style.
SÅ FINT EN GAMMAL VERSION AV WILLIE NELSONS LÅT
Are you certain? If Willie Nelson sang this song, it would have been after Betty Hutton.
marvin gaye has a version of this song as well.
COULD SOMEONE POST PEGGY LEE'S VERSION OF THIS SONG. THANK YOU MUCH
her pix and the poster has no resemblance at all.
gr8 voice and singer.... who doesnt admit it luvs Hitler
