I'm only 40 years old, but I got introduced to Betty Hutton because of Fallout 4. I really liked it and started taking a look into her work. After seeing the breadth of her work, and the talent, was absolutely blown away.
Betty Hutton starred in one of my father's all-time favorite movies, Miracle of Morgans Creek (1944). Directed by Preston Sturgis, and also starring Eddie Bracken and Diana Lynn, Betty played Trudy Kockenlocker, whose name, for some reason always made my father laugh. I imagine he saw the movie in a tent somewhere either in the US or Panama where he was stationed during WWII.
Listening to this takes me back to our upstairs apartment during WWII listening to this song over and over as a crowd of GIs making the best of their weekend passes in the roadhouse below kept feeding nickels into the juke box and dancing with the local girls. Except for the war and all the horrible things it caused those were really great days to be alive. I was just a kid but I can still remember those days, the GIs, and the great music they danced to as though it all happened last week..
I was born in the late fall of 1978. Awesome Lyrics and Melody! Awesome Musical Arrangement! Awesome Orchestrations! Awesome Recording! Awesome Song! Awesome Vocalization! Betty Hutton is very pretty and very talented! I Love Betty Hutton's Movies!
This is the best version of this beautiful and classic song ever! I own this on both record and CD! I was born in 1978. Thank you for posting and sharing this! I love it!
🎶 Why do I do just as you say? Why must I just give you your way? Why do I sigh? Why do I try to forget? It must have been that something lovers call fate Kept on saying I had to wait I saw them all Just couldn't fall till we met It had to be you, it had to be you I wandered around and finally found the somebody who Could make me be true, could make me feel blue And even be glad just to be sad thinkin' of you Some others I've seen might never be mean Might never be cross or try to be boss, but they wouldn't do For nobody else gave me a thrill With all your faults, I love you still It had to be you, wonderful you, it had to be you Some others I've seen might never be mean Might never be cross or try to be boss, but they wouldn't do For nobody else gave me a thrill With all your faults, I love you still It had to be you, wonderful you, it had to be you 🎶
A song many times heard as part of the musical score in films because it's such a wonderful ballad that perfectly fits the scenes when it's played. One song that you never tire hearing it again and again. Betty Hutton does a nice job on this one. Great upload choice!
I love restored audio that maintains the monaural solidity of the original recording. Further along this list you can hear quasi-stereo trickery imposed on the recordings that dilutes them.
Listening to different versions of It Had to be You today. Didn't know about this mellow Betty Hutton take. I usually think of her doing explosive up-tempo tunes. Very nice.
I saw the movie that she sang this song in. I adored her and think I watched about all of her movies. This was in the years that movies stayed in theaters longer than they do nowadays. And at age 12, a ticket only cost fifteen cents so I went to the movies a lot.
Thats not even remotely funny, telling someone to kill themselves is a low blow, you're really disgusting. And if you really didnt care you wouldn't have commented in the first place. kana mi
Natalie, I'm here to say Betty was the soul mate I never found, at least for over a hundred years. I have my special love now, but Betty, that was a love of loves going back before Hadrian's Wall.
rmt mller Just wait for the sequel, Melanie Get Your Prenupt written and sung by an obscure Slovenian courtesan. Highlight of the show for me would be I'm Slovenian Too, Boo hoo, woo hoo
Wow! She does a great job on this song -- such a light, airy treatment. She was more known for fast, loud, almost novelty numbers, but here she's quite the opposite.
Betty Hutton had a number of songs that were covered by Dina Shore at the same time. Nothing against Ms. Shore, but Betty should have gotten more support in her singing career. Great comedic actress and talent.
I had thought the same thing many times when listening to Betty Hutton and knowing that Dinah Shore seemed to cover the same tunes during that period. Betty had a more active career in her heyday, but Dinah was known more as a singer and her career lasted longer. Both great talents.
One of the best renditions of this song ever. Oh, and FUCK BamBam. In 25 minutes BamBam will be forgotten. In 25 years people will still remember this song and Betty Hutton.
And just to let everyone know i didnt not come here from a bam bam video, who the hell is bambam no wait dont tell me ill stick to finding these on my own!!!
I always loved Betty Hutton, I think she had a sister named June who sang with Bands too. Betty the one who movie and was talented in both singing and acting. I love hearing Betty sing "It had to be you", to me she sang this song the best I have ever heard it sang. Thank you Betty, she was really something
Jitterbug Betty had an endearing babydoll tone in her voice until she suffered larynx damage in the early '50's. Then she rehabed and retrained her voice. The later voice is deeper and perhaps more womanish, but lacks that special crazy-kid something she formerly had..... This is from the earlier era, of course.

43 and the same exact story... quite an amazing woman

Nice old song, I did meet Betty . An army initiative test required me to obtain her signature - she was charming

🎶
Why do I do just as you say?
Why must I just give you your way?
Why do I sigh?
Why do I try to forget?
It must have been that something lovers call fate
Kept on saying I had to wait

Just couldn't fall till we met
It had to be you, it had to be you
I wandered around and finally found the somebody who
Could make me be true, could make me feel blue
And even be glad just to be sad thinkin' of you
Some others I've seen might never be mean
Might never be cross or try to be boss, but they wouldn't do
For nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults, I love you still
It had to be you, wonderful you, it had to be you
Some others I've seen might never be mean
Might never be cross or try to be boss, but they wouldn't do
For nobody else gave me a thrill
With all your faults, I love you still

Heard of this song when I watched a movie that talks about 40's. I didn't know the name or who sang it but now I do. Great song!
Who knew she could sing ? Not I 'til now..Thank you so much for making my education complete.....XOX.
Wow! She does a great job on this song -- such a light, airy treatment. She was more known for fast, loud, almost novelty numbers, but here she's quite the opposite.
Her voice is smooth as silk.
Best version EVER....not easy to accomplish when Old Blue Eyes and Billie Holiday sing it also.
