Agree with you. I think it is because some movies come out at wrong time, and the theater is swamped with winners. So, even a very good movie might not perform well when a new Star Wars comes out.
These kinds of movies need a great monster in order to succeed. Conventional dragons just doesn't work for this kind of concept. People were laughing at the trailer in the theaters when it just turned out to be dragons.
Watched the film multiple times and I had the game on ps2 as well. Both completely brilliant and the fact you got to play as a dragon on the ps2 game was pretty epic.
This trailer will always stick with me for that clip of McConaughey flying through the air with an axe. I was so hyped only to get to that part of the movie and see my guy soar straight into the dragon's mouth 😂

I would love to see a season or two about the daily lives and occasional dragon attack with the creativity and ideas of what is needed to survive and all the other ideas that may or may not have worked Even a little communication from survivors around the world in different groups sharing info and the one by one go silent over time. A season of how one group survives...then the next season on VanZant becoming who we see in the movie and then a season of them getting over seas and then wrap that up with them driving up to the castle. Then we go watch the movie from that point on :)

It is just his light colored hair and thin hair growth that make it look like that in certain lighting. There isa a scene where you can see one side of grown out and shaggy looking while the other side looks almost non existent. Its just a trick of the lighting on his hair.

There are good movies, bad movies, and the there are frustrating movies, flawed ones with a potential for greatness. Reign of Fire and Alien 3 are in that category.
They should've used the Johnny Cash song "Ring of Fire" for this trailer, TV spots and the actual film due to the name of the song is sometimes misheard as "Reign of Fire".

You mean to tell me an A-10 Warthog with its cannon, an F15 fighter with its cannon, Cobra Helicopter and its cannon, Apache Helicopter and its cannon, or any thing similar from any other country couldn't keep these things at bay. Complete bs and they had to gloss over it to hide that fact. Other than that...I loved the movie.

Something I noticed which gave an extremely weird vibe to this otherwise awesome movie: the script is so fundamentally American. The characters' names are American (Quinn, Eddie, Devon, etc..., all names no sane Brit would give their kids), their language is American English, the fact that they're praying, etc... Half the script should have been rewritten for the British setting.

Cool movie, stands up pretty well still, re-watched it in 2022 and spotted little King Joffrey as one of the kids from the castle.
Yup watched it today and also spotted a kid looking like Joefrey. Then looked at his filmography and yup his first TV appearance.
This movie is amazing. Severely underrated. The CGI still holds despite being created in 2002. Man, Netflix should develop a TV series about this.
