Remember staying up watching this on concert on TV back in 1982 after getting home from boyscout camp,,,only 10 years old but I was blown away!!! Red barchetta was always my favorite,,,,back in those days EVERYONE listened to rush
I was never a smoker in high school (or ever). When I went to see them on the Signals tour (having seen this video), I bought a lighter so I could participate in the "crowd of lighters" thing.
Brilliant performances. My favorite (and first) Rush live CD I ever owned. Alex is playing a Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion here. He played Gibson Howard Roberts on Permanant Waves - a fat hollow jazz guitar. The HR-Fusion he plays here is smaller - like a hybrid between the HR and a Les Paul and only semi hollow.
My first Rush concert. I love later Rush too, but Neil on an acoustic kit, like Terry Bozzio in early Missing Persons, is it for me as an acoustic drummer.
Exit... Stage Left (the record) has the definitive Neil solo, as far as I'm concerned. Everything that came after were variations on that theme. And I remember how weird it was that the drummer in a hard rock band had short hair in the early 80's. 😳
Unfortunately in this excellent video there is no record of them playing YYZ. Neil's best solo and coming back to the song is spectacular. It still gives me goosebumps after the zillion times I've heard it
I *hate* the way the ESL video truncated YYZ and the drum solo, and dropped interview clips over it. The ESL drum solo was, IMO, his best ever. Grrr. Personally, I like the extended Closer to the Heart stuff. 🤷🏻♂️
Buddy. what are you talking about? You don't know me or you wouldn't be saying that. You see a bit of whats on this youtube channel. You obviously don't know or see my reasoning behind doing ESL Live right now. You don't know my career or life.... this comment is out of place.
@@JustinPanariello Rush is massively over -represented on this channel. You have hundreds of rush reactions. Is that many rush reactions really necessary? Seems like to a certain extent it has crowded out other artists you could have been exploring.
@@evanhughes1510 i have more not Rush videos on the channel than I have Rush videos. I decided to do their whole discography..so i did it. I finished it just recently. Im moving on to other music. As you can see.

In the old days that was everybody flaming up a joint, before they banned indoor smoking.
Yes, there was definitely a thick cloud hanging in the air when the lights came up.
AHHHH Yes. The Gibson Howard Roberts Fusion. Also my favorite era of RUSH. Including Signals. lol
Everytime I hear Neil hit the orchestra bells on this song I think of Christmas music!
Closer to the Heart/YYZED let’s get to it: BAM 💥
My first concert!

Great song. Great performance.
Another one of my faves and Alex being Alex ❤
Wonderful! ... and now for the bit I probably play as often as Freewill, from this concert... the glorious medley 😊
I could listen to Neil talk for hour.
Yup

Alex’s coat reminds me of the Shriner’s coats!

you can find some old 8mm footage of the drum solo or parts of it. I do agree its amazing.
We’d like to do something from our A Farewell to Kings album…it’s called: CINDERELLA MAN 😆😆😆😝😝😝🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
Neil Peart: the most intelligent man to ever live in my opinion! Truly a Professor of words and percussion!
The ESL drum solo. I think you skipped that one, Justin. It's my favorite.
The drum solo was not in the video. Justin did cover the album version a year or so ago.
@@stevemunro2018 Yes, I know. I meant he skipped the ESL album version way back when. I might be mistaken.
@@stevemunro2018 Yeah, I found the reaction of ESL YYZ with drum solo. My bad. Great solo.
BY-TOR OR BY-TORONTO AND THE SNOW DOG 🐶😝😝😝😆😆😆🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥

Is that an ovation😂😂
WEYE WEYE ZED !

Dude Y Y ZED they're Canadian
THEY are. Yes. Lol.
I think you’re too obsessed with Rush. You should branch out and discover all the other music that’s out there in the world.
