In my defense it's hard to see the details of a bird from a distance on a camera screen, hahahaha. That said I'm really happy with this video though, I feel like it hits all the stuff we like to show in a video, unique experiences, random wanderings, weird foods, good foods, nature, etc. Sometimes this stuff ends up broken up over multiple videos, feels good when it all comes together in one. Hope you enjoyed.
Baker here: kouign amann (queen aman) is a French pastry made in a similar way to croissant. In addition to the butter layers in the dough, we layer in tons of sugar. When it bakes, the sugar and butter caramelize and form the crust making it crazy delicious.
This is pretty much the perfect day. You've got drums, sniffing houses, an awesome boat driven by an awesome lady in cool clothes, eating weird shit, a cool well, birds in the sanctuary and birds in their natural habitat, and what looks like incredible sushi for dinner. Defintely going to have to go to Sado, as if that's the first time I've said it xD
This is a great video!! I really loved the slo-mo camera effect with a voice over, very documentary-like. Also it was nice to hear some of Eric’s Japanese language skills. Thanks for posting!
53:20 About this "Bakudan," I can see small chunks of sea shells (2 or 3 different kinds of them), creamy stuff would be uni (sea urchin). I could be wrong, but I'd love to try it! Great video as always!
Kouign amann is a pastry from the Brittany region, France, as other commentators said. It’s a breton (brittany old language) word. Mostly butter on butter topped with butter.
You bunch of house sniffers! You two are so much fun! As soon as Japan opens back up I hope I can come back to Tokyo and have some food and drinks with you both. Thanks for all the Great and funny content you always put out.
I missed your travel videos, really happy to see farther from your home ones :) Just waiting for the world to open so I can see you using the new camera abroad :) What might be weird is I really like seeing all the hotels you visit too, the little tour, it feels more of an adventure!
What a great video. It really showed some inexpensive fun activities in Sado. Food looked good, even though you had few options. Also, chasing birds is fun! :D
Well done on seeing the Ibis guys - there'a a lot of birders in the world (me included!) who haven't seent JCI's. Sadly however your four birds near then end aren't JCI's but Great White Egrets. :-) You also endeared yourself to my better half, she's also a manhole cover nerd! :-)
@5:45 ... since you're on *Sado Island* is it safe to assume the *Taiko* experience was at *KODŌ* ? do they require reservations, or can you just show up?
“Bumper boats.” “There’s a person under there?!” 😂 Those are whelks; they’re sea snails. I always wanted to try them and periwinkles. But then, I like snails. 🐌 Maybe someone else makes them better? I do like how Katie chews and analyzes food. I do not look cute chewing. 😅 I hope Eric still teaches sometimes, he has a great mannerism for communicating information; I always enjoy listening. Katie too, just a more entertaining style. I wonder why they chose tiles? The look is classic, but I did not know that it had something to do with women in particular or that Japan shared some heritage with the US in that area (women taking over traditionally men’s jobs during the war). Really enjoyed the look of the shipping town and you introducing us to it. ❤❤❤
That pastry you got around 4:00 is a French dessert from the Brittany (Bretagne in French and ‘Breizh’ in the old Breton language which is a relative of Celtic origin)...The first word is pronounced like “Queen”. I love those! Buttery and not too sweet! This region of France is also where France got the traditional crêpe!
I thought for a moment this was going to be like that time in Taiwan when you guys were on a 7-11 food binge😝This was nice. Learned some Japanese too. Some of which I can't use in my daily conversation!
If there was one thing that would make your videos more useful, it would be to do interviews with the locals. You guys are very entertaining, but the people on the spot have interesting stories to tell.
I don't disagree. Lots of other folks are doing that much better than I feel like we could do that. It adds a lot of complexity to the video production as well that I don't think people realize. -E
Hey! Man, that snail thingy 17:33 looks especially unappetizing. Kyde was really brave to have eaten that. I would NEVER eat anything that leaves a trail of mucus behind. I mean, slimy food makes me gag hard. Once, I had to try some sort of a mess that was gruesome at a glance. Came out at the same door it went in :D. Anyways, that one wouldn't go down as a "Fika-time" item, would it? Enjoyed the whole video with an ear to ear smile. Cheers!
That restaurant food looked just dandy for a husband and wife team with a big crowd. Strawberries (or raspberries) in champagne are good, actually (dehydrated fruit works too). Mail an ibis to one of your pen pal friends, I like ‘em. That looked like PERFECT sushi. Sashimi is my preference frequently these days for the reason Katie says. 🍣
I think the yellow in that "bomb" sushi looks like a type of pickled daikon called takuan. The yellow traditionally comes from gardenia fruits or persimmon peel but is often substituted for tumeric or veggie dye nowadays as most people will make the faster 10 day recipe rather than the traditional 6months+ recipe. It's a popular Korean banchan, where it's called danmuji :)
I am very relaxed watching your video. I hope you guys will visit Tsushima Island someday. Tsushima has become famous in the world because of video games. If it weren't for the coronavirus pandemic, many tourists might have visited it.
24:00 The leaky bucket randomly reminded me of a the Thomas Tank engine episode that had a leaky bucket... Just a random memory of my childhood that was brought back just now.... haha
Fun fact: the Australian white ibis (Threskiornis molucca) has been nick-named "Bin Chicken"... Alternatives are "tip turkeys", "sandwich snatchers" and "picnic pirates"... Not sure, but maybe the "creamy" part of the "Bomb" Kyde ate could be fish sperm...? :/

Bring the car to the dealership, they might be able to update the software in your GPS system, be well and be safe all! As far as I am aware, Japanese dealerships are extreamly service orientated, not sure how much it might cost, but, since it never worked properly to begin with it might be free!
@@kydeanderic ok do you own the car now?If so go talk to a dealership who represents them, if its a rental your out of luck. Buy your own GPS to carry arround with you , they can be helpful even while walking / commuting. Ten times better than a cellphone and more accurate.
Hi Eric / Kyde, been watching u guys for a while now and have always wonder how proficient your guys’ level of japanese are and how u guys manage day to day life in Japan particularly when u guys are not in major cities. Maybe it might be neat to see u guys chat with each other in Japanese for a bit (with subtitles).
Our daily life Japanese is functional, mine is stronger than Kyde's. It's not too hard to get around and such at this point for either of us, however. -E

I believe it is from Bretagne originally.
Yum!
Thank you once again for taking us around with you ! That sushi at the end looked amazing.
Thanks for joining us!
28:15 that's a... a very um..... A very welcoming mural.... For the people..... Very family fun.
🎶🎶 There’s a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza. There’s a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, a HOLE! 🎶🎶
Kyde's a very adventurous eater so if she says that deep sea organism has some funk to it, I'm going with that...lol!
The funk of forty thousand fathoms...

It's been a while since seeing a K/E video and I was reminded of why I enjoy them so much again. Never change, guys
"I'm gonna smell this house"........."Oh man, it smells really good" LOL Kyde.
Also, 10 points to Eric for the Red Fang tee, \m/
Ooh, that fancy bucket boat from Spirited Away
"Why are you even in this video?" Kyde's on form today.
It's good to see your old videos from time to time. Thanks again, K&E!
Super love this series!
Thanks!!
The drums are so cool! I’d love to do something like that one day. Another great travel video you all.
Thank you for sharing , good video
You guys and these adventures are the "Cat's Meow" ... and as you very well know, .. that is meant as the ultimate complement 😎 💕
hahaha thanks! meow
Oh, the little origami birds are amazing! You should have a contest or something & send them to someone.
And those bunnies are nightmare inducing.
I LOVE your videos where you show Japanese mealtime food. Do more of them please 🙏🏻Thanks
We show food in almost all of them! Glad you enjoy! -E
I.ve watched all your videos for years and look forward to each one.
Can I just say, I love half awake Kyde? She says some extra fun things
"There was a person in there?" That made me laugh out loud.
Another great adventure
. TFS 👍😁
Thank you for sharing your Sado adventure.
Thanks for enjoying it! -E
Really great video 😎 lots of different places and excellent food. Well done once again 👍👏👏
Love it. Cool one hour.
There's similar small boats in Wales, they're called coracles! 🙂

Sado Shima was an location for exiled dissidents back in the day. Nichiren. A 13th century monk, was exiled there.

kouign' amann. It's from brittany france. It's a pastry. They have a dialect here.

they make a wash tub boat joke in my fav video game, Tales of Symphonia.
they be Snowy Egrets!
