The problem is in our current moment of time the nu-right in this country does not believe in ideas such as responsibility or accountability - especially for the people they put in power. The only real threat to speech you should be worried about is when the government is locking people us for exercising 1A, and that is happening to the anti-war and anti-genocide protesters across the country - that is the real threat to our speech. He had a huge platform to protest and do his activism on without kneeling on live TV during the national anthem and alienating a massive portion of the NFL fanbase.

And to top it all off I even went to games he played in that year and it was one great play followed by 2 easy missed passes. At best he was a very low end starter and high end back up, and if butker was that he would be released immediately. But butker is a top 5 kicker and you can say kickers aren't important but theres a reason really good kickers dont hit free agency often, and thats because they are incredibly valuable. Butker says no form of Catholic birth control, the rhythm method, is acceptable even to limit family size or delay when you start a family. And he states that the women graduating that day will find no career as fulfilling as being a homemaker. Not a mother but a homemaker. Meanwhile telling the men that being a man is important as they are tasked with leading society. He does not say that being a stay at home father is more fulfilling then a career. You know like kicking a ball between polls. He then explained why most Catholic priests and Bishops are wrong for being friendly to their parishioners as that is not their job. You're repeating a very tired very poorly conceived neo-lib talking point.
If he spoke in an official manner representing the team you'd be right. He didn't. He is allowed to have his opinions and express them as an individual.
Freedom of speech doesn't just mean 'you don't go to jail' it also means you don't need to fear losing your livelihood. That is a threat that compels you to not exercise your rights out of fear for your life and livelihood and the future of your family. That is absolutely a violation of freedom of speech.
If you could not get a job anywhere because you say 'Black Lives Matter' would you consider that a violation of freedom of speech? Or is that totally justified? It's ok that everyone who supports BLM either starves or gives up their civil rights?
