Exactly! It’s hillarious how their “annalysis” consist of them just spitting out a bunch of cliche’s. It’s like networks send out talking points that all of their shows HAVE TO say. Then you switch programs to see the same talking head saying the exact same thing on another channel.

People want a show (pre- or post-game) to feel genuine (organic) sport people can tell when they are duped for content instead of having a feel good program. The 1990 NBC with their cast (Costas, Walton [R.I.P.], Magic, etc.) and the TNT inside crew are examples of what people want to hear during and post game. ESPN with Van Gundy and Jackson had a good broadcast team. But they dismantle it themselves and Countdown feels like a bunch of know it all talking sports instead of people discussing sport in a Bar/Pub like the Inside Crew feels like.

You mocked typical sports coverage and rallied all the trolls under a banner of intelligent skepticism. This show doesn’t get enough credit for that. The dichotomy of this show sitting along side most other ESPNs coverage was hilarious. But then all these journalists and tv personalities saw that there you could have success by being a real person and not just a mouth piece for industry propaganda. So as they compete with retiring athletes who can fire off takes and trade locker room secrets for clicks & likes, some of our more traditional sports programs are starting to compromise their professional standards for views.

The successful sports shows are that way because of the personalities and cohesion of those behind the mics. A big part of that is who they pick to win or hot takes'. I wanted the Pacers to win simply because of how Stephen A was acting and I was mad they didnt have a postgame show because I wanted to see how distraught he was. But I was tuned in promptly at 10am they next day to see it. Used to do the same thing with Skip and Shannon. That's what drives engagement.

They only allow big market narratives through. Look at all the Shannon Sharpe Laker glazing. Everytime Neil Everett brought up the Blazers, everyone that wasn't Stan Verrett looked annoyed. The Ducks? Totally different story because they're Uncle Phil's toy. Also Neil Everett was always fair and didn't dominate with Blazers talk because he was a SC host and they're mostly unbiased. The Athletic is a lot better but print journalism isn't valued much because it's hard to do journalism in any field and/or form these days. Inside the NBA is great because it's entertaining while not playing favorites.

I think subconsciously what makes Inside so popular is that it's a safe space for men to watch and laugh at highbrow antics. Chuck got away with talking about San Antonio women for years. It was so funny and guess what? SA women coming back at him was just as funny. No WNBA freeloaders being force down our throats. Just guys being guys.
Also, ESPN has lazy producers. How many times do they have to make a list of the greatest blah blah. Inside has high quality and innovative producers that enhances the show. Something as simple as Kenny on the Stairlift was masterful producing and execution.
Lastly, Inside doesn't feel like an elitist studio show because with Twitter, they include the viewers who are just as funny as the guys on the set. So there is a lasting relationship that is established.

espn are just trying to do the same thing inside the nba does. its not a problem with the formula, its a problem with the personalities. they're trying to do it but they come across as corny cos a lot of them don't have the personality of a shaq or a chuck nor host like ej. its that simple. we don't need over analysis of games. if we did, inside the nba and espn first take wont be as big as they are

ESPN has been awful for a long time, sadly. Aside from live sporting events, the personalities can't hold a candle to the OGs of the 90s and early 2000s. There is no edge or good people. They fire the good ones and empower the bad ones who have horrible takes or just like to scream. They got rid of people who know their stuff in favor of someone/people who know nothing about it. Get rid of McAfee and Sceamin' A.

You know, some of us _like_ statistics. I can't help you if you don't like numbers and just want to retreat into an ignorant shell, but baseball has always been about statistics, they're just useful now instead of RBIs and pitcher wins. It's true that inefficient plays are fun as hell - bunting, stealing, the whole 9 yards. That stuff is what makes baseball fun, but it turns out mashing homers is more effective. Don't whine about the analytics that figured out what wins, make the rules favor the fun stuff.
