Geffen really screwed up when they didn't follow through with these guys.
Incredible band. Still alive. Don't take them for granted.
Seeing them for a third time on April 19th in St. Catharines. Unfortunately for them,I now kind of like the fact that they're our little secret.
Saw them a few years back and got a cool sweater. Super underrated.

Not many bands can rock the joe blow feel like they do. We Canadians rule!
The national tendency to get embarrassingly self-congratulatory every time something Canadian appears is not an attractive trait. It makes us look insecure and provincial.
@Andrew Forbes I like your opinion and it holds weight but I don't think it's all that excessive. Over the top patriotism is definitely something to be aware of even 6 years ago.

He kills himself on the inside by wasting time on drowning himself in the past, and remaining in a hollow state of being that disallows his vindictive soul to move on. He never experiences life as it happens. He never takes advantage of the opportunities to become happy. He just closes himself off, grasping at straws to change history, and continuing to fool himself. He resolutely denies that bad things just happen, and it's all a part of the experience of existence. He bides his time as life passes him by until death.

I will NEVER understand how it is June 25, 2020, as the day I am hearing of this band and their amazing music? I haven't been living under a rock, lol. To think of the mid 90s through the early 2000s - when I was especially a die-hard GenX music girl, this band would have been a band I LOVED - is it cause I stopped watching Mtv by 1993 or so? I loved all kinds of obscure stuff, not just Pearl Jam and Nirvana and Sound Garden, etc. It feels like I am in the wrong "parallel" or something. This is unforgivable.
P.S. This also happened with Elliott Smith and Heatmiser. Of course it was even worse when I found out ES died in 2003.
I hope these guys are still around, even if they aren't doing music.
Very nice! Once covid is over, Sloan will be sure to tour at some point. Not the best band I've seen live but it's always a blast
Danielle, it’s understandable. They were given awful promotion by Geffen who didn’t do squat for them. I first heard em when I bought their OCTA record in 96, loved it and lost track of them til rediscovering them in 2014. Since then I’ve caught them 4 times as they’ve played in my area. Go get their records if you haven’t by now, they’re ALL great. All of them are fantastic songwriters.

oh the 90s are so underrated, as is this band, and this song.
One if my favs. I seent them in London Ont 1998 at bar called The Drink (currently called Cowboys). They got done roughly 5 songs then the moment Andy got up from his drums and a roady had a guitar in hand I yelled "FCK YA PEOPLE OF THE SKY!" above everyone else in the place and the everyone lost their minds. The guys had a good chuckle and when Andy got up to the mic he says "Ok, ya caught me, no surprises I guess" it was hilarious.
Andrew's singing and lyrics remind me a lot of Syd Barrett. I really like that.

The lyrics... this has always been my favourite Sloan song and in my top ten favourite songs of all time. But the lyrics never got me until the past 2 years. Resonates.
Always wondered if the reason this band wasn't huge was that there is no definitive lead. All great songwriters in their own right,they all take turns up front. My favorite band because of this, not in spite of it.
That being said, underrated Blackberry Smoke should be as big a southern rock band as Skynyrd. Radio airplay just not there for these two.
Well, they were pretty huge all things considered. How many bands get as big as they've gotten? But, one reason why they didn't get more popular (not that it matters, does it?) is that they happened right when grunge was happening. Their first album was pretty much of the times. Having a heavy Sonic Youth influence was a very good sign for the record companies at the time. But, what did they do? They didn't stick with the safe grunge sound. They went and made Twice Removed. That wasn't grunge. It was good alternative rock, but it wasn't grunge, so the big labels weren't about to spend their money and effort promoting this band, when they knew they could make lots of money off of grunge bands.
Geez, they are so sick. It’s just not fair.

someone verify for me please ... they aren't playing their instruments in the video, correct? No wires to the guitars, nothing that I can see. Doesn't make the song/ video any less entertaining. I was just wondering.
I know I'm late, but to answer your question:
They _are_ playing their instruments, but it's more so that their actions visually sync up to the audio rather than to actually get the audio for the music video. The audio you hear has likely been prerecorded in the studio, and played in the background while they were filming this. Clever editing allows their actions to sync up with the music.

I mean.... Weezer was a huge commercial success, so technically a good business decision. Sloan is a way better band than Weezer, though
