My favorite bit of trivia about the game is that Hakita actually forgot to give Gabriel a theme in Act 2. Less than 24 hours before Act 2 *released to the public*, Hakita theorized, planned, and made Death of God’s Will, and added it to the game a mere 4 hours before release of Act 2. And supposedly, he vomited afterwards from the stress and anxiety.
I Loooooooove anxiety vomit :)
When was this mentioned? I literally had to listen to Death of God's Will again and I literally don't believe that, it's too good??? /srs
@@teaganwillier-lauck638 i cannot for the life of me find where hakita said it so this is gonna sound farfetched but he did indeed pump the song out 24 hours before the act released! however, he put the MIDI or work in progress version of gabriel's theme in the game before replacing it with the finalized version of death of god's will a day later. god bless game devs

When Minos Prime says “Die,” it is a subtle nod to how he is going to kill you.

It is a piece of music that stands alongside only a select few songs in video game history. Songs like Bury the Light that are benchmarks of musical quality in the industry. It is nothing short of phenomenal.
44:28 You're actually on point here. In the Divine Comedy, circles 1 to 5 are considered "Upper Hell", where sinners that didn't actively seek to harm others are punished. Souls there are in a bad place, but not actively tortured. Circles 6 to 9 is "Lower Hell" and that's where true punishment begins since sinners in those circles did try to cause harm to others.
I actually didn't know that to be the lore accurate meaning behind layers 6 and beyond, thanks!
@revolverjesus98 apart from limbo, those are just torture
@revolverjesus98 4th circle was actually just wasters and hoarders rolling boulders (or huge bags of gold in some interpretations) against each other. The molten gold thing was an invention of the EA game because otherwise the level would be rather dull.
6th circle was being entombed in a grave filled with hellfire, the punishment you described there was reserved for blasphemers in the third ring of Violence (7th circle)
And 8th circle featured much more.
@revolverjesus98 That was specifically for fortune tellers and false prophets in Fraud
@@eduardodiaz9942 it was quite an ironic punishment as the fortune tellers and fake prophets had to guess where they would step next considering what they did while still alive.

Something interesting I had noticed: in the weezer room for P-2, I think the music playing in the background used a Shepard's tone. Explained most simply, it's an auditory illusion where it sounds like the pitch is endlessly increasing, and I think this was chosen for that room because of how sudden it is and it reflecting the relentlessness of the enemies in this level - as well as the perfection and dedication it demands. I find that this is really effective at inducing anxiety to the player; the fuzziness of the texture, the fluctuating volume, and this is meant to be only the beginning. What an introduction.

If I was a more technical musician, I probably would have picked up on more of these, but it's still fucking hard as hell!
ULTRACHURCH is actually an early version of what eventually became Tenebre Rosso Sangue, and it's also inspired by Running From Evil from Doom 2.
You’re telling me they took an early access track for a different track, and then made THAT BANGER TOO???
With me being a musician in college, I had to learn to appreciate music from many different genres. Not just the Bachs and Beethovens and whatnot, but multiple genres. Some of which I’ve never heard of.
Ultrakill’s OST, as you said, is a delight. The first song I was introduced to was ORDER during a drive back home when my brother was playing it.
With me having Perfect Pitch and all that good stuff (side note, Perfect Pitch is a curse) I was identifying key changes throughout the entire song as well as the time signature (3/4 time, E minor, G minor for a bit, back to E minor, then back to G minor and then to B flat minor). When the B flat minor section hit (the Requiem motif) I was thinking to myself “That is tragic desperation. Like you must avenge those that are lost”. At the time, I didn’t know Minos’ story, it was just a good song to listen to.
I guess to answer the whole emotional perspective that Marco is able to determine is that it’s something that you can’t really force to determine. It’s something that just comes and goes, it can ebb and flow, it changes with time. After all, art (music, visual art, acting, and even literature) are expressions of an emotion or multiple emotions.
god youre so fucking smart what the heck 😅, glad to see someone like you in this community
Tenebre Rosso Sangue and "The Gauntlet" to me always felt like the peak of V-1 and the players journey through hell so far. By now you're a bloody manmade nightmare, and now your enemy is an army of some of the most powerful creatures and machines you've ever fought, and as the song goes on and you progress through the level you just continue tearing through enemy after enemy until you eventually reach the final encounter where your speed has to match the song itself to beat the most difficult combination of enemies imaginable.
At least, thats how it feels when you're not dying every 10 seconds to the 2 mindflayers.

I would just like to add something about 5-2 (the ferrymen in particular).
You said that you wondered about why the ferryman was so desperate to protect the boat and suggested fear of Gabriel's punishment, but it is actually the opposite. In the first room with the idol, there is a book next to said idol. The book is the diary of a ferryman in which he describes how Gabriel came down to him and told him the words that we see the hologram say in the next level. This moved him so much, that he now acts out of a blind devotion to Gabriel, instead of a devotion to God/his job. He closes the entry with "Radiant is Gabriel, for he is the light in my darkness", hence the name for the track.
This is further supported by the terminal entry, in which it reads that the cloth over ferrymen's heads was given to them as a symbol of their devotion to god. Because of mankind now dying there is no more need for them and they aimlessly wander the layers of hell, with Gabriel being the only one to appreciate their services. They hope desperately for the angels to give them passage into heaven, but we as the players know that this will never happen. Or maybe, Hakita throws every story element up until so far out of the window and has us open heaven somehow, fulfilling the wishes of the few ferrymen that remain. I'm going to be honest, this only makes the ferrymen so much more tragic, hoping for a salvation that will never come and either being led on by Gabriel or V1 coming between Gabriel and his promise of saving them.
Anyways yeah that was about it, if I find more tidbits about the lore I might update this comment idk.
(Also you called Minos a god which I know might've been a figure of speech but he's not a god at all, he's just a regular human with a really strong will. Also, Gluttony doesn't take place in his corpse. Common misconception.)
The weird thing is that despite me knowing that before making the video, I definitely did not make it clear that I understood that. It was a weirdly ignorant thing of me to say but it makes much more sense when you consider the fact that Ferryman is essentially saying "this is MY ship, there are many like but this one is MINE, without me, my ship is useless, without my ship, I am useless"
Also thank youi for the clarification on Minos not being a god lol, I actually didn't know that, for whatever reason
As for Gluttony, I'm sad for that to not be the case because thematically it would be cool, but I also recognize how stupid it would be for Gabriel to be at the bottom of the corpse of a guy he killed lol

I still had like 400 hours in the game? the motif made me feel nostalgic of the first time I played 3-1, that amazing feeling of discovering a new challenge. The completely recontextualized that motif to me, it really makes me think of how far I've come with my skill in the game. (The motif is Glory's motif)
Amazing video, dude, I hope you go far
Also one more thing A Complete and Utter Destruction of the Senses IS AN AMAZING SONG
Yes, Yes, and Yes, I love seeing people who feel this passionately about a thing as I am.
I appreciate the kind words
I also love Destruction of the Senses, that's the joke :>
I think the fact that ACT III is not out yet is hinting at the possibility of Sex Update replacing the whole game
I don't know how I will feel if they replace Ultrakill Godfist Suicide with Ultrakill Sex Update
It's not called GodFIST suicide without a reason
Not a sex update, a fisting update
17:26 It has been stated that you aren't "in King Minos' guts, but rather this is the gluttony layer and the gate in his mouth was for a smooth transition out of the level rather than for lore.
I feel so betrayed every time someone mentions this :(
"ULTRAKILL's music is a fucking delight to listen to. Well, except for-"

i mean hakita wasn't wrong with the title lmao
The song sounds like overstimulation, and is easily my most picked on song, but even the most picked on song is still too fire 🔥

@@DJCerealSauce6455Cool!
The theme title 34:24 confused me to be honest.
😮
The first song I think of when I hear ultrakill music is the 5-S theme
Yeah, it has some bangers. Ultrakill was actually the thing that introduced me to breakcore. I like this style of music.
Also, it makes you feel like a TOTAL BADASS when you’re playing!
I’ll accept “some bangers”lol
I also fully accept that for a lot of people, the soundtrack only shines in the context of playing the game, as, to be fair, that is essentially what it’s meant for
@@DJCerealSauce6455 Just listening to it when I’m reading or coding is still cool, it makes me feel like I have more energy.
as someone who has over 300 hours on ultrakill and has 100% completed every save file slot multiple times over, i can confirm this is the way i felt about the songs in the game that i just couldnt figure out how to put into words, you explained it better than i could imagine explaining it. from the bottom of my ultrakill-addicted heart, thank you for making this video.
Bro. I GOT YOU!! Keep kicking ass, and we’ll see how many more hours you get once Act III comes out
i like how often everything surrounding ultrakill goes out of its way to remind people that hakita is a massive musical nerd
and that he's up there with his inspirations
BIIIIIG nerd behavior on his part, love it tho
This video fucking fire.
Underrated af. The editing is so good too.
I appreciate the kind words man, I will hopefully continue to bring things to the quality that y'all are expecting of me
10:40 that's a reference to the witness especially since the level's called "the witless"
I've never played The Witness, and I'd like to apologize, but now I know due to all you gracious commenters
@@DJCerealSauce6455 lol
Thank you FY page.
For me, I love choir, specifically if its used in intense tracks like the end bit for TRS or just heavy tracks in general. It elevates stuff like that by a lot for me.
It’s like “even the entire church is cheering me on… or maybe booing me, I can’t quite tell yet”
@@DJCerealSauce6455 it might be hell itself cheering you on in the context of Ultrakill lore, and with TRS, with Marcos explanation where it goes from some sort of sadness to pure rage, I feel like its more of how Sisyphus felt during his war on heaven, War being how he feels now.
160 FOV Or nothing.
NO, PLEASE LEAVE MY FAMILY ALONE
What a hecking NERD! git gud 360 FOV or nothing lol
160 fov cured my depression
I personally perefer 125 FOV... it feels just right
40 fov is best
There is at least 2 références to Iron maiden in greed layer, first the Name slaves to power is a référence to powerslave (With both taking place in a désert With pyramid) and the night easter Can also be Seen as a reference to 2 minutes to midnight wich is in the powerslave album
"ah... Free at last" *_starts hearing the first notes to 'MURDER' by miricale musical_*
ANOTHER MIRACLE MUSICAL REFERENCE, I DINT GET IT 😢😢😢😢
@@DJCerealSauce6455 the whole album is on RUclips and I'm sorry for doing it again. It just hits me like a hammer every time I hear those notes cause of just how similar they are.
Correction. Not just the whole album, but miracle musicals ONLY EXISTING ALBUM!!
WHERE THE HELL ARE THE TREES⁉️🔥🔥
My anxiety went all over the place from staring at the player’s health changing randomly while hoping they don’t die lol
I play so dirty in this game, while hoping the boss doesn't realize I'm at 2 HP lol
Indie developers trying to not make a banger: difficulty imposible
Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, Risk of Rain devs looking at you rn 👀
inscryption and madness nexus devs too@@DJCerealSauce6455
Whenever i listen to pretty much any song from the ultrakill soundtrack i get goosebumps and shivers. Thats how good the soundtrack is because that rarely happens when im listening to other music.
Also, tenebre rosso sangue could mean deep red blood in Latin. Either way both names are very fitting for the level
Google translate did not do me justice lol
I'm pretty sure 1-S is actually a reference to The Witness, a puzzle game with somewhat similar puzzles. It's just that the track for 1-S is called "Sanctuary in the garden of the mind", which could be a reference to one of the endings for The Witness where you are actually just suffering from diseases in a hospital and the gameplay was a ruse made up by your mind to distract you from your fate
You are probably the 30th person to correct me here, and you are right, thank you :)
you posted a video about ultrakill so the algorithm is about to bless you lol
God bless you ultrakill community and RUclips ❤️❤️❤️
45:19 love the movements and shots lining up to the notes that was amazing
Also this is a great video amazing job :)
that was genuinely a complete accident lol, but I supposed being musically inclined allows these kinds of mistakes to happen
Also thank you for the kind words!
17:04 The music sounds like it was made for a specific thing but then someone didn’t know it’s original use and misused it for intermission music for their game.
Yeah, I like to think of my music like that lol
The only video over an hour I’ve watched 3 times in a row. This video flows perfectly and I like the clips you put in. Also, I agree that ultrakill has the best soundtrack, with terraria’s calamity soundtrack in close second. What a top tier video.
Btw, if you still haven’t gotten that P rank on p-2, try switching your sharpshooter pistol to the normal version, as it gives you more shots that can be used to nuke malicious faces or just instakill fodder enemies. Also save your dashes and slide when you can.
A ton of people have been putting Terrarias Calamity Mod OST in the comments, also I'm glad that you've enjoyed it that much lol
I've been trying to get back into using normal sharpshooter, my only crutch is Slab Sharpshooter being really good for how I clear out the Weezer room@@christian1862
Didn’t realize how good versus and divine intervention were until I heard it a few times. I LOVE the guitar these tracks, they just go so hard, and they really fit in with where they’re placed in the game (I mean so does every other track, but these two stuck out to me)
1:34 bro is not autistic (he cant comprehend the forkoncetamicplatecore gene of music)
glad our tisms have aligned on this one, specifically ultrakill (our dumbasses bounce ultrakill off each other like crazy)
(also i find it funny how Ultrakill just annihilates any and all video's bitrates because its ultrakill)
Yes and yes Kirbus
I feel like blood red darkness represents the sheer desperation of the enemies in the level trying to stop you from reaching Sisyphus because they know, if v1 gets there, Sisyphus will break out of the prison, and if he beats v1, everyone is screwed
This is a pretty valid theory honestly, and that goes pretty hard too
@@DJCerealSauce6455 thanks
22:44 i think it’s also a refernce to iron maiden’s 1984 album powerslave (slaves to power) and if you look at the album cover it’s also a pyramid
This is 100% correct
very nice inversion, paying Gianni to say that was the last thing I though would happen
200 bits can take you very far sometimes lol
my favorite in tenebre rosso is the back to back organ part 1:00:51. its almost as if Gabriel from the organ room, summond 5 hands to slam the hell out of the keyboard out of pure rage. and still, somehow, made it even more heavenly. (not pun intended)
5 man Organ solo would be dummy evil
everytime a hard-ass electric guitar solo i unintentionally scream "aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH IMBUSINGGGGGGGG"
Honestly, I think it's the tism, but electric guitar breakdowns make me scitter and scatter uncontrollably
teebre rosso sangue got me back into playing piano,, lovely song but FUCK if it's hard to keep the right tempo when playing
Y'know what, that's a huge left turn that I wouldn't expect, but that's super cool to hear!
That was actually a really good well made video. I love how you take some time literally for evey song in game and i appreciated that. Good luck in making a futures videos
I appreciate the support mane, if I make something similar to this, I will definitely write out everything, so I don't spend like 30 seconds on 1 song, and 7 on another
The thought process when you first see the mindflayer was spot on.
Ultrakill players love the g r e e n robot, and then they kill you
fun fact: when you were talking about requiem and order having cross referencing (12:57) there is also another reference in glory that goes along with it, makes sense cause its the level you have go to go in order to get to minos.
Someone else pointed this out to me, I have not found it yet, but maybe soon
@@DJCerealSauce6455 ah, it’s near the very beginning before the piano part I belive
4:35 from wiki page: "Cerberus is a benchwarmer for the LA lakers."
Fun Cerberus Facts :D
1-1's level name is a reference to Yes's Heart Of The Sunrise, also a beautiful song that I love
I watched this video about 5 times by now. There's very few youtubers that are able to do that, great job :3
DANG! 5 times??? You’re absolutely insane!!
the video was so good that I watched it all the way through, it was really damn good. Great music btw
I appreciate the support on this video from you :))
I wish hakita would make layer 7 it’s own album because 7-3 is just a beautiful level but also has a beautiful soundtrack.
I'm pretty sure he's about to drop it within this next week or so
I like how the VA of Gabriel voiced almost all of his own memes.
I meeeeean, it pays well
gianni has always been a massive meme lord lol, almost everything in his channel is just shitposts. Finding out he voiced gabriel was the most surreal thing ever. "wait, they hired the funny meme guy to voice act for this game???"
@DJCerealSauce6455 And yet not many do that... The only similar thing I know is one Russian guy who voiced almost all of the Demon Slayer dub and Demon Slayer Abridged in Russian as well.
I actually love a complete and utter destruction of the senses. It's got such an interesting and harsh sound.
I think it's really well designed, the flaming is a joke
@@DJCerealSauce6455 reminds me of how one of daft punk's older tracks (using this as an example because I really like dp) got stereotyped as weird noise (it was very funny imo)
My senses are utter destructed
Hakita looked at ultrakill's soundtrack and just said: "may your bangers be many and your disapointments few"
I dont... I mean... actually, yes :)
10:55 this is based on The Witness, actually
23:00 this is also a Dune reference
Dune huh? A man of culture I see
I think this soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece! Tenebre Rosso Sangue is EASILY my favorite piece, and I'm trying to learn Versus Reprise on the guitar at the moment. I reeeeaaaally want to play the game itself one day, it looks so fun and I really enjoy looking at gameplay :) I have to thank my best friend for introducing me to the memes and the MUSIC!!! In the past three days i've probably spent more time thinking about Ultrakill than anything else. So yeah, great video!!!
Also, i need to ask: why does your interface look so different from all the other videos I've seen? is that a recent update that i just haven't seen yet? :00
No recent updates to my knowledge, it’s just a different hud in the games settings lol
Also I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I’m glad you enjoy the games soundtrack, and I’m hoping you have an excellent first gameplay experience!
i end up listening to the soundtrack while playing other games because it just slaps that hard
also the prime sanctum themes give me ptsd flashbacks
And THATS what I meant when I said “you’re a masochist” At the beginning
@@DJCerealSauce6455 ok just because i intentionally give myself trauma by listening to order and war does not mean i am a masochist
Minos prime is the definition of a true king.
I like my kings see through
I like, no LOVE this video, it's always 1 hour videos of commentary especially THIS because it talks about the OST which definitely deserves praise and be talked about
Also you just sound and remind me of Soundsmith (a tf2 youtuber) I just love the commentary alot (quite funny) i love it
an edit after watching this video, I had no idea you ONLY HAD a thousand subs, WAYYYY too underrated, too much
it really feels like the video was made by and for the entire community, new and old players.
this video is amazing and i cannot stress that it's not getting recognition it deserves (I do feel like ultrakill is underrated)
Bro there's like 4 other people who have said I sound like SoundSmith lol, I can kind of hear it, but it's hilarious how those 2 games don't line up even a little bit
Also thank you for the kind words :))
12:55 blud doesnt realize minos is the KING OF LUST!!
DONT YOU LIE ON MY NAME
