About 3 years ago, I was battling depression. I would go days without sleeping, I wasn’t eating, I was hurting myself and I was just a mess. I had my suicide planned, and just needed an opportunity. Until I found out that a few months out, Alice Cooper would be having a concert in my town. I had never seen him live, and I had a sudden revelation: was I really going to die before I got to see Alice Cooper in concert? Silly as it sounded, that was my reality check. I called into a crisis line, got information for a local psychiatrist, and soon got into therapy and was put on medication. I got to see Alice in concert, I’m a junior in college and on the way to my first major internship, and, well, I’m alive. So, in a way, Alice Cooper saved my life. I hope that one day I get to meet him so I can tell him this personally.
Depression, anxiety, PTSD are all REAL and should be treated. Its NOT weakness. I have my own demons and wear my Saint Dymphna medal every day to remind me of those who continue to suffer. I've seen too many people lose their battle. Or as my father said, apply a "permanent solution to a temporary problem". God bless you young lady. Im NOT Alice Cooper but I wish you all the best in the world and ill tell ya from personal experience......this life DOES get a Little easier (not much but a little) after you have stared into the void......puts stuff into perspective. Absolutely. Im a recovering addict and through out my journey through recovery I listened to this often. Watching it now, having been almost 3 years clean, with a CDCA degree, two beautiful baby girls and a wonderful husband, I look back on those days and it's literally like looking at a whole different world. It's almost like a am a whole new human being and in a way, I am. Recovery isn't just about sobriety. It's about changing your whole way of life, coping, thinking, everything. It's like a total factory reset on a phone lol. But it's a beautiful thing. Alice has always been a huge inspiration to me seeing as how he is a recovering addict as well. Ive seen him live 5 times and each time is better than the next. He's out lived, out Shined, and out done every single one of the greats who also fell victim to addiction. It takes a very strong soul to do that. Especially when it's everywhere like it was with him. Being able to stay sober as a celebrity is harder than anything I imagine. You hardly have any reason to quit. No worries about homelessness, no worries about money, dope sickness, jail time, nothing. He had every reason to be able to keep using and still he fucking beat addiction with flying colors 😄🥰
I really love this song as a recovering drug addict! I used to think partying it up and getting high was the “rock n roll lifestyle” but now I just realize it’s for idiots and people who can’t think for themselves. Thanks Alice for sending a positive message to young people about such things!
Partying it up and getting high is fantastic, thank you Lord Prude. I do think for myself: I am acutely aware that I would deeply and wistfully regret not having had more fun in my life, on my deathbed.
@@ehs1452 for real i never deal in extremes, i say moderation is key. Think about it, water is crucial to our survival but too much water can still kill you. Most drugs are safer than told to believe, but they also aren't worth throwing a life away for. Drugs themselves are bad, abusing them is.
The good thing about Alice Cooper, is that he secretly does Christian themed songs, such as coming off drugs and not being with the wrong girl, but scares people, by calling himself Alice Cooper, and pretending to be a Satanist.
The song rocks, and the message couldn't be any clearer. Thanx, Alice! I hope your song reaches those who need to hear it. Blessed be, Mr. Furnier, blessed be, and thanx for many many many years of magic, music, and memories.
There's just something about that opening riff and that stove top sparking at the same time that gives me butterflies every damn time. I remember when I was something like 11-12 we couldn't afford a guitar and I would listen to this album for hours and play every song on this album on a tennis racket (nobody in my family has ever played tennis) and a penny for a pick. One of my favorite memories.
As a christian I am so happy that Alice Cooper is christian too and this song litteraly saved my life ! Really ! 2:41 damn he is soooo right... Please spread this song it can saves a life !)

The guy with the red superstrat-style guitar,is actually Vinnie Moore who was in Alice´s touring band back then. One thing is for sure,Alice Cooper had only worldclass musicians on his records and touring bands.
This song has and stills helps me get through my dark times I've been 19 years clean from drugs. When he speaks of the c'mon girl it's a better day lyrics it hits me hard that there will be better days and stop feeling so sad all the time. Thank you! My favorite song.
Can you imagine any 20 year olds digging this song today? Well...We did back in 1991. 20 years olds that were back then, now on the web in 2022. GO Alice!!! Last time I saw him was in KC at the Sandstone Amphitheater.
It's amazing how I could never, ever, get tired of listening to this song. I've heard this song from the radio and listened to this song from the record probably a million times and still this never gets old. This song has been part of my life's soundtrack ever since this was aired on the radio for the first time. Fucking 26 years! From my childhood through youth to adult life...this song has always been there, a true and timeless classic that just can't be outshined by anything or anyone...

@@davidfuller4110Yes it is Joe, and the crazy part about revisiting this album after I switched from bass too guitar as a result of Joe and "Surfing with the alien" only to learn Joe and Steve Vai played on it was one of the craziest discoveries of My teenage years playing guitar. Perhaps it was this video which subconsciously planted the seed for My love of Ibanez JS guitars which I only discovered 5 years or so later? In revisiting this video only to see Ozzy doing backup vocals 30 years later, I guess the message of this song is to choose life over death if only to spite the "They" this song refers to as who else could discover such a thing and realise that I am only 1 degree of separation from the Sabbath legends as a result of My Dad being born in Birmingham and how I have shaken hands with both Joe and Steve in the course of My life who both contributed to this incredible album. I guess My reptilian creator Snakebite(byte) actually does have some love for Me which makes dealing with the haters and the fact that the "Me" who "lives in a video" as technology has reached the stage where I and My human avatar can be digitally inserted into any "video" ever recorded by Man as I can be deepfaked, cloned and replicated as can anyone else. In saying this, whilst the value of life and the identity of the individual has been relegated to be worthless as a result of there being no scarcity, no differentiation between people and their lives. As a time capsule of that preteen period of My life when I was naive and innocent, with dreams, hopes and aspirations of a future where I could live out My dream life as opposed to letting the video version of Me live the dream life I gave him only for Me to get sent to Hell as a prisoner of finances and other's agendas, at least this song and video with it's practical effects serves as a historical reminder of what society once had, yet was lost, all as a result of the internet and technology allowing humans to become Gods of information only to have stupidly rendered themselves to be irrelevant in the process.
@@crummybunny777We exist in a world whereby God has allowed the Devil to corrupt His daughters as they sell themselves & their bodies to strange men for money, material goods and even drugs such that they have become the one's on "that stuff" aka intravenous needles containing drugs as they lay around with a crippled broken heart whilst gangs of bikies and other criminal organisations and gangs go about the task of initiating the female members via having them get r@ped by the entire gang as they imbue their soulless standards upon others whilst relegating the pricelessness and value of one's body and sex to be completely worthless beyond it being used as a tool thru which demonic maggots that are these gang members can imply control and assert a position of dominance and a culture pervaded by fear.
The lyrics to this song are so powerful and beautiful…Alice Cooper has always given so much art and depth to the usually superficial genre of hair metal
So glad I got to see him in concert. Ex husband asked me why I wanted to go see a washed up rock star. Alice is still going strong all these years later!

Hey, stoopid Come on, girl, it’s a better day Get your foot out of that grave Don’t let that one love tear your world apart Come on, babe, kick that stuff Show the street it ain’t so tough Quit lying around with a crippled, broken heart Now I know you’ve been seeing red Don’t put a pistol to your head Sometimes your answer’s heaven sent Your way is so damn permanent [Chorus:] Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid What you trying to do? Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid They win - you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid [Solo] This ain’t your daddy talking You know, I know Your story ain’t so shocking You know, I know Blow some steam Come on and scream! [Chorus:] Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid What you trying to do? Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid They win - you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey Hey, hey, hey, hey (ouh). Hey, stoopid What you trying to do? Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid They win - you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey Oh, no (Hey, hey, hey, hey) Come on, man (Hey, stoopid) What you trying to do? Hey, hey, hey, yeah If you do that (Hey, stoopid) They win - you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey! Hey, stoopid

Recently rediscovered this classic track. Great song, great message. I especially love the bass, like those little runs at 2:35. *Googles* ah yes, the legendary Hugh Macdonald. Of course.
Although I knew a couple of AC songs and was aware of him, this was my first album of his that I bought. My cousin and I played it a lot during 1991-1993.

Cooper has always been far out there and he was an alcoholic for year's, but his wife helped him by loving him and he realized he was an addict. He's been a recovering alcoholic for many years. He did this song in his own way to help others realize they too need to admit their addiction, and do something about it.
Great song from a superb album, and it isn't even that old! Early nineties I think, i.e. long after Alice's classic time. I like the positive mood in many of the songs, not as depressed as most other nineties rock like grunge etc.

Slash too! Him and Alice are both former addicts who've been sober for decades.
ABSURD
They had fun and are telling other not to have. Such double standards.

Drug abuse is also suicide UwU
I really love this song as a recovering drug addict! I used to think partying it up and getting high was the “rock n roll lifestyle” but now I just realize it’s for idiots and people who can’t think for themselves. Thanks Alice for sending a positive message to young people about such things!
It’s about both
Partying it up and getting high is fantastic, thank you Lord Prude. I do think for myself: I am acutely aware that I would deeply and wistfully regret not having had more fun in my life, on my deathbed.
@@cascade3769 don't overdo it, that's when the issues arise
It’s Slash playing the lead guitar at the beginning there.

My 5 yr old daughter is obsessed with Alice Cooper. She loves Welcome To My Nightmare.😁

Great job there!! :)
She’s a legend. Treat her very good.
That's probably my favorite of his!
Old school Alice is fantastic
As a christian I am so happy that Alice Cooper is christian too and this song litteraly saved my life ! Really ! 2:41 damn he is soooo right... (No fake but the day where an ex of mine dump me by message I just wanted to end my life BUT I have hear this song on the radio and I don't know it change my mind ! I am serious ! Please spread this song it can saves a life !)
Captain here, for those who wonder who is in the video :
Lead vocals : Alice Cooper
Backing vocals : Ozzy Osbourne
Guitars : Joe Satriani and Slash
*captain flies away*
The guy who plays the black gibson is Stef Burns. I don't know If he played also the solo in the studio version.
Drums: Eric Singer
The guy with the red superstrat-style guitar,is actually Vinnie Moore who was in Alice´s touring band back then.
One thing is for sure,Alice Cooper had only worldclass musicians on his records and touring bands.
Puré Legends
Slash was not here.

28, been listening to him for a long time now
I was that 20 year old in 2012. I always wished I was born in a different decade.
I never realised until now how much of a genius Alice Cooper is
It's amazing how I could never, ever, get tired of listening to this
song. I've heard this song from the radio and listened to this song from
the record probably a million times and still this never gets old.
This song has been part of my life's soundtrack ever since this was
aired on the radio for the first time. Fucking 26 years! From my
childhood through youth to adult life...this song has always been there,
a true and timeless classic that just can't be outshined by anything or
anyone...
love this song. good beat, catchy chorus, and a good message!
"they win, you lose" when you do something stupid like drugs or hurting yourself!

He does that to me too! His art is so creepy, I feel like I belong! His face and his voice just radiate kindness, too.
He is so kind. His wife also. They have the best love.
Daaaamn love this song. Remembered every lyric from almost 25 yrs ago on tape
So many memories with this one. We were rock kids, listening to heavy stuff all the time and dreaming of our favorite rockstars in America ... good old days
I’m 36 years old I’ve been listening to Alice Cooper my whole life I’m a huge fan my wife got us tickets to see Alice Cooper at the Ralston Arena in Nebraska and we got to see him last week for being as old as he is he killed it

A great song with a great message from a guy that had been down that road and clawed his way back! Well done Alice Cooper.
An ozzy cameo is always appreciated. And is that satriani at 3:51? Did he play on the track?
Alice cooper is one of the greatest performers both on and off stage
Agree
Man I love this song. Makes me feel like everything is going to be ok

Is that Joe Satriani ?

100% correct song lyrics is here:
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
Hey, bro, take it slow
You ain’t living in a video
You’re flying low with a high velocity
No doubt, you’re stressing out
That ain’t what rock‘n’roll’s about
Get off that one way trip down lonely street
Now I know you’ve been kicked around
You ain’t alone in this ugly town
You stick a needle in your arm
You bite the dust, you buy the farm
[Chorus:]
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
What you trying to do?
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
They win - you lose
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
Come on, girl, it’s a better day
Get your foot out of that grave
Don’t let that one love tear your world apart
Come on, babe, kick that stuff
Show the street it ain’t so tough
Quit lying around with a crippled, broken heart
Now I know you’ve been seeing red
Don’t put a pistol to your head
Sometimes your answer’s heaven sent
Your way is so damn permanent
[Chorus:]
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
What you trying to do?
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
They win - you lose
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
[Solo]
This ain’t your daddy talking
You know, I know
Your story ain’t so shocking
You know, I know
Blow some steam
Come on and scream!
[Chorus:]
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
What you trying to do?
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
They win - you lose
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey (ouh). Hey, stoopid
What you trying to do?
Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey, stoopid
They win - you lose
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Oh, no (Hey, hey, hey, hey)
Come on, man (Hey, stoopid)
What you trying to do?
Hey, hey, hey, yeah
If you do that (Hey, stoopid)
They win - you lose
Hey, hey, hey, hey!
Hey, stoopid

Cooper has always been far out there and he was an alcoholic for year's, but his wife helped him by loving him and he realized he was an addict. He's been a recovering alcoholic for many years. He did this song in his own way to help others realize they too need to admit their addiction, and do something about it.
