Nice work! I keep a spiral bound pocket notebook for bills, regular and intermittent. When they arrive I take them out of envelopes note due date and put in pocket notebook in a stack. I pay bills twice a month, 1st and 15th. I have a datebook and a to do/list notebook that are clipped together. I’ve been doing this system for years, nothing falls through the cracks.

My grandmother sent me her grandmother’s desk about a month ago. My great great grandmother was gifted it when she went to college in the 1880s! It’s a small oak secretary desk. Needless to say, I had to sort through all my old office stuff to make room. Totally worth it and I’m organized- for now 😅 I just hate dealing with paper clutter!
I have my great-grandmother's desk and I love it! The terrible thing is that none of the drawers except the center one will fit 8.5x11 paper so the top is constantly cluttered. Project for tonight! I'm not sure what the skinny but deep side drawers were used for?
I enter a state of paralysis when it comes to opening Mail and dealing with it. I can’t do it. It terrifies me. I’ve been a PA most of my working life so I can do other people’s admin on auto pilot, just not my own. Disasterrrrr!!

I used to freak out with sensitive letters. I started telling myself funny sayings while I open them, like, It's not going to kill you, or what's the worst that can happen. Opening mail every day is hard in the beginning, but after time, it gets easier to do. Keep the important ones, toss the unimportant ones. Those are the majority.
Great video. I promised myself that 2022 I would be more intentional with opening up my Mail and either shredding or trashing what could be thrown away. I bought a shredder and I’m making process. 2022 is going to be a year of organization!

Haha thanks Susanne! This desk has moved all over my apartment 😂. It used to be in my living room and then I had it against that wall where my clothing rack is and then I moved it to this nook about six months ago. I just love that little dressing area and wouldn’t have anywhere else to put it. The struggles of a small space 😍💕

Great job, lots of inspiration! I always stay in the hall and open the mail and anything not wanted/needed - straight in the recycling bin, and I have a place for all the other things that I need to keep - A-Z filing box helps, it's not perfect yet but I always know where things are when needed, I keep things that need sorting out asap (credit card bills, utility bills etc) in a close to hand place so they aren't forgotten. I think I have problems with planners/diaries, keep them and don't use them and then buy more. x

I was the same way with all of the mail just sitting around in piles... I took a tip from a couple other youtubers, As soon as the mail comes in the house throw away junk mail and have files set up for the rest and put them in there immediately. It has drastically cut down the amount of papers laying around.

Really, really love your channel and process. I did the thing where i bring mail to where i keep a shredder and go through it there, and shred /recycle / keep right away. Getting to the 'keep' pile.. still working on that bit. But i've curtailed my procrastination tendencies significantly this way.

I actually have the same desk and put all “action” papers in the same drawer… it’s been working really well for me! I don’t have to see it all the time and constantly feel guilty about having stuff left to do, but it’s easily accessible when I have the time to take care of some lingering to-do item. And if the drawer gets stuffed, I know the paper is starting to get out of control again 😅
The position you had the desk in for organizing might work really well if you push it past the closet to where the mirror is. That way you have a wall behind you and the desk is no longer right beside your bed.

Maybe somewhere in the middle is healthy? I open my mail and get rid of any bulk like envelopes/flyers and have a quick scan. Then I put it in a pile which I process every Thursday. Never had anything urgent that couldn’t wait until then in the 4 years I’ve used that system. Hope that helps with some anxiety relieving 😊
I LOVE your videos! I just wanted to mention that I think that back section is so that you can pass cords through without having to see them. That is a super awesome feature that you should definitely utilize so that cords don’t take up space and take away from how clean and organized it looks!

Wow your subscribers shot up!!! Congratulations again. Well deserved. I check my mail once a week only on Thursdays. I immediately recycle anything I can and put on the fridge with magnets anything I need to handle. I get any bills paid or anything I need to do from the mail on Fridays! WOW these are the systems that have been missing from my life! I swear it's like I never got the memo about the things that have to be worked into a schedule to really stay on top of things. Love how it turned out! I open the mail same day, otherwise I'm stressed out. If anything needs addressing I write it down in my planner, if not I put in a drawer and at the end of the month in a binder with monthly sections.
Also Carla, I notice in a lot of your videos that you have stains you can't get off. Have your tried Scrub Daddy's Power Paste? It's all natural and amazing. It gets stains off of any surface and it's the only thing that can get hair dye off my counters or any surface.
Desk looks great! To control paper I bring in the mail and stand over the garbage can to get rid of over half of it and then take care of what needs to be handled.

Living in LA. I don't know how you manage to live in such a small apartment. My son lives in Georgetown outside of D.C. and he has a very small apartment as well. I would imagine the rent is high. I know his is. But he is close to work being only 2 blocks away.
OMG!! I HATE opening mail too!! It's a problem lol. I have a basket by the door and my husband thinks I am ridiculous. I pay all our bills online so I know what the bills are going to be and other stuff, I am just like... eh....
You have inspired me to address my "piles". Where ever I spend a lot of time, guaranteed there is a pile of paper: notes, to do, great ideas etc. A tip about Thank You notes: 3 Sentences is all you need. Thank them for the gift (name the gift), tell them how you will use it or have used it, thank them again (for their thoughtfulness, generosity etc). Sign name. Done. I had a ton of paper clutter from my son's IEPs from the school, and medical paperwork, etc. I ended up scanning a ton of it and have uploaded and organized it in my Google Drive "filing cabinet." It felt so good to get rid of those thick files! I still have a ways to go, but I have uploaded and shredded a lot.
Hey Carla, not sure if you are ever looking for video ideas, but, you know most of us love Samson, have you thought about doing a video all about him., talking about him. What breed he is, how old he is, how did you come to bring him into your family, treats he likes, etc. We all think he's the best and I know how much animals are our children and how important they are to all of our lives.
I also don't have the desire to open mail...it's a disease 😂 I just put all of my mail in a shoebox and go through it once a week. ALSO: Carla, you're a magician! I know you've since gotten rid of that desk (and its replacement - the standing version), but it might have worked better for you if you'd staged it in the area with your open-air wardrobe. It would have been right next to the outlet (so you wouldn't see the cord for the standing version) and you could look out the beautiful windows that sold you on the apartment in the first place. If you ever decide to try another desk, that might be something worth keeping in mind.
💜💜👏👏 I found a check for $200 in mail that I was going to trash!!! Now I check everything I get just in case. I've had smaller amounts before as well. My bf doesn't check his mail much, and it drives me crazy since he knows about the money I've received 🔥🤣🤣
I have 4 baskets: 1. deposit basket has my deposit supplies and I toss my checks to be deposited into there until I can take care of them. 2. Bill basket, with all my checks, envelopes, stamps, pay booklets, a list of monthly payments I need to send with or without a bill, and I toss all my bills to be paid into there. 3. Data Entry basket, where I toss everything be entered into software for taxes (I have a folder in here for w2s and other tax documents.) 4. no action needed yearly basket, but need to keep for taxes or refrence for the year. stuff from the other baskets go here once I've processed the bills/deposited checks/entered the data. I love your porject and how nicely you styled your desk! Thank you!
I'm currently browsing the container store website for arts and craft storage solutions for my 3yo. Good paper storage can be hard to find. Particularly when you need it to be durable enough for little hands. Great job. I love the contact paper!

You and I are “twins” from different mamas. I just now subscribed. I just lost 50 pounds and I am decluttering my home and curating my wardrobe. The only difference is I’d love to RUclips my experience, but I don’t know how (I don’t have the camera, lights, and such). We even have the same IKEA products in our lives places. This was super satisfying and full of great laughs too!!! I love the marble contact paper - makes it look brand new! Paper clutter used to be the bane of my existence hahahaha. As soon as mail comes in my door, I make it a rule not to put it down until I've decided what to do with it. Junk mail goes straight into the recycle bin each day, other papers that need action go straight into an action bin. That's the only thing that's worked for me b/c if I set it down without assigning it somewhere, it will take WEEKS for it to be attended to LOL. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Maybe somewhere in the middle is healthy? I open my mail and get rid of any bulk like envelopes/flyers and have a quick scan. Then I put it in a pile which I process every Thursday. Never had anything urgent that couldn’t wait until then in the 4 years I’ve used that system. Hope that helps with some anxiety relieving 😊

I LOVE your videos! I just wanted to mention that I think that back section is so that you can pass cords through without having to see them. That is a super awesome feature that you should definitely utilize so that cords don’t take up space and take away from how clean and organized it looks!
Yes!! I realized that when cleaning it out that I can pass the cords through there and that way they're out of sight. Such a smart solution right!? I'll be using it for my laptop plug 😍 Thanks Katelyn!!

I check my mail once a week only on Thursdays. I immediately recycle anything I can and put on the fridge with magnets anything I need to handle. I get any bills paid or anything I need to do from the mail on Fridays!

Love how it turned out! I open the mail same day, otherwise I'm stressed out. If anything needs addressing I write it down in my planner, if not I put in a drawer and at the end of the month in a binder with monthly sections.

Also Carla, I notice in a lot of your videos that you have stains you can't get off. Have your tried Scrub Daddy's Power Paste? It's all natural and amazing. It gets stains off of any surface and it's the only thing that can get hair dye off my counters or any surface.

Desk looks great! To control paper I bring in the mail and stand over the garbage can to get rid of over half of it and then take care of what needs to be handled.

Living in LA. I don't know how you manage to live in such a small apartment. My son lives in Georgetown outside of D.C. and he has a very small apartment as well. I would imagine the rent is high. I know his is. But he is close to work being only 2 blocks away.

OMG!! I HATE opening mail too!! It's a problem lol. I have a basket by the door and my husband thinks I am ridiculous. I pay all our bills online so I know what the bills are going to be and other stuff, I am just like... eh....
You have inspired me to address my "piles". Where ever I spend a lot of time, guaranteed there is a pile of paper: notes, to do, great ideas etc.
A tip about Thank You notes: 3 Sentences is all you need. Thank them for the gift (name the gift), tell them how you will use it or have used it, thank them again (for their thoughtfulness, generosity etc). Sign name. Done.
Can be done while eating dinner, ask me how I know that.

I had a ton of paper clutter from my son's IEPs from the school, and medical paperwork, etc. I ended up scanning a ton of it and have uploaded and organized it in my Google Drive "filing cabinet." It felt so good to get rid of those thick files! I still have a ways to go, but I have uploaded and shredded a lot.
Hey Carla, not sure if you are ever looking for video ideas, but, you know most of us love Samson, have you thought about doing a video all about him., talking about him. What breed he is, how old he is, how did you come to bring him into your family, treats he likes, etc. We all think he's the best and I know how much animals are our children and how important they are to all of our lives.

I know you've since gotten rid of that desk (and its replacement - the standing version), but it might have worked better for you if you'd staged it in the area with your open-air wardrobe. It would have been right next to the outlet (so you wouldn't see the cord for the standing version) and you could look out the beautiful windows that sold you on the apartment in the first place.
If you ever decide to try another desk, that might be something worth keeping in mind.

💜💜👏👏 I found a check for $200 in mail that I was going to trash!!! Now I check everything I get just in case. I've had smaller amounts before as well. My bf doesn't check his mail much, and it drives me crazy since he knows about the money I've received 🔥🤣🤣

I have 4 baskets:
1. deposit basket has my deposit supplies and I toss my checks to be deposited into there until I can take care of them.
2. Bill basket, with all my checks, envelopes, stamps, pay booklets, a list of monthly payments I need to send with or without a bill, and I toss all my bills to be paid into there.
3. Data Entry basket, where I toss everything be entered into software for taxes (I have a folder in here for w2s and other tax documents.)
4. no action needed yearly basket, but need to keep for taxes or refrence for the year. stuff from the other baskets go here once I've processed the bills/deposited checks/entered the data.

I actually like decluttering and I purge our clothes regularly, and some kitchenware, and bathroom. But yeah, I'm not the only one living here, and my hub's and daughter's clutter is no joke. It takes a lot of effort to make them throw smth out((

The only difference is I’d love to RUclips my experience, but I don’t know how (I don’t have the camera, lights, and such). We even have the same IKEA products in our lives places. This was super satisfying and full of great laughs too!!! I love the marble contact paper - makes it look brand new! Paper clutter used to be the bane of my existence hahahaha. As soon as mail comes in my door, I make it a rule not to put it down until I've decided what to do with it. Junk mail goes straight into the recycle bin each day, other papers that need action go straight into an action bin. That's the only thing that's worked for me b/c if I set it down without assigning it somewhere, it will take WEEKS for it to be attended to LOL.
