It took 14 years because Brad bird didn't need to do a sequel and didn't want to, until he was forced shell out and ok (and that's being generous) movie to keep his career afloat
If I had to pick an overarching theme for the movie, I'd pick trust. Bob learns to trust Helen, Violet learns to trust Bob, the parents learn to trust the kids, the central conflict revolves around trusting superheroes, etc. I'm not sure what it builds to (I haven't given the matter that much thought), but it's there. The big problem that comes to mind is that there's no complexity to the issue. Aside from Helen trusting Evelyn, trust is _always_ the right answer, and unambiguously so. "Trust is good" is kind of a weak thesis statement, but I can't think of any other one that I could bring out of the movie.
Timothy McLean Nice analysis on what the theme is. I like the trust theme. From what you explained here, I kind of want more of this theme in more movies.
I'd also add Heroism. The core message of the film is that heroic acts are present and valuable in many places, from being a superhero and protecting citizens, to being a father/parent and protecting your children. Even Edna Mode talks about how parenting in and of itself is a "heroic act".
Here are my thoughts on the movie. - I really enjoyed it, the action was spectacular. - The family dad aspect was great - even though I could totally tell who the villain would be in the beginning, I thought screenslaver was fucking disturbing.... I was genuinely freaked out, and that's super rare for me. - the pacing felt a little mixed, super fast and super slow at times. I adore this movie. I really really loved it.
I personally think that Pixar really didn't try to hide the fact that Evelyn was going to be the main villain... she seemed shady from the start, which I'm fairly certain was on purpose and her name literally sounds like the words "evil endeavor"... so yeah I don't think they were trying to hide it, I think they wanted the audience to focus on the message of the villain and not who the villain actually turned out to be
The plot was fairly simple but the execution of the film was the best i've seen from pixar. I'd even rank it higher than most of the superhero films i've seen in the last decade
5Geass that kinda makes more sense as to why Bob would have a hard time at first. In those days, the mother spent way more time at home with their kids while the dads were only seen right before and after a whole day of work. He was always working 9-5 and in the first movie, they even argued over "I can't believe you'd miss your own song's graduation!" Implying that he wasn't always there for his kids. And in the montage where he gets a new job and getting into shape, he's spending more time with his kids but Helen is still there to help. This time he's alone, and wasn't aloud to do super hero work because of his tendency to do collateral damage. Unlike the typical "bad dad" trope, he does overcome his jealousy and issues and straighten out the kid's problems
I had a fun time with it. Sure, was it easy to guess the villian? For sure. But it was just great seeing the Parr family back on the big screen again. The action was fun, the animation is beautiful, and the story was a great role reversal from the first.
Spoiler warning!! I loved the villain, and am happy she wasn't in any of the trailers. I mean, she's a cool, scary, witty lady. And she swore twice! In a "kids' (Pixar) movie." LOL. Heck, her name is Evelyn Deavor...sounds like...evil endeavor...so Pixar didn't want it to be a twist villainess for the audience, but for the characters in the film. :)
Considering it didn't even take the _characters_ all that long to figure out the villain's identity either, I didn't really think the "twist" (if you can even call it that) was really _meant_ to fool us for long...
I disagree completely with you on the Bob taking care of the kids aspect. This was just "Mr. mom territory." Where the joke is "Hurpa durp doing lady's chores is hard. I'm not used to this." No he tries hard. Anyone who go through what he went through in this film, mother or father would go through what he's going through, and He goes above and beyond. He gets up early to make sure Dash understands his homework and he tries to not disparage his daughter from dating like the usual troupe suggests, but actually help her, and when that doesn't go well they have a sincere heart to heart where he relates to what she's going through. That he's sorry that the current superhero witness protection program took away something she wanted. It was a joke near the beginning of the movie that he was just using his's kid's futures as an excuse to get what he wants but in actuality he truly doesn't want his kids to miss out on any opportunities because of the system that's in place. And when have you EVER seen a father use his daughter's dating as a ways of relating to both of their struggles? If you're looking at this film as a normal superhero film, yeah I can see why you would be put off by the family at home scenes but what the film was going for was a family of superhero's and wanted to put the themes, struggles, and over all plot around that. And the biggest message I got out of this was the complete opposite to "Isn't a man taking on traditional wife work funny?" It's that it can be heroic. That both fighting crime and doing what's best for you're family even if it's hard and sacrifices are involved are equally heroic acts. THAT was the central theme and philosophy
@@HolyShmolies This needs so many more upvotes! THIS is literally the only reason why The Incredibles was made in the first place: the concept on what it means to be a FAMILY. Missing this point is like completely r/whoosh the whole movie.
The fact that this movie was basically held hostage until Pixar made Cars 3, and it now looking like this could easily break a billion, makes me think Disney didn't quite understand the gold mine it was sitting on.
Yes but when you factor in the merch the CARS franchise has made more than 8 billion dollars. More than it's(PIXAR's) other films so business wise it makes sense why they(DISNEY) would focus on a Cars film first than an Incredibles film.
I think 14 years was a long time to wait for a movie but honestly I don’t care. I think we’re lucky we even got the movie. I had a ton of fun watching it. I think I’m going to try and defend Violet as I think the “boyfriend” thing could’ve have been done better but I still like it. I think the problem was they didn’t go further into it. Violet renouncing her being a hero was actually an interesting idea. Think about it, she could be afraid of the fact that she could lose all her friends and connections she’s took all this time to make because if they found out they could have their memory wiped. Imagine all these people in your life you think are important suddenly don’t remember you and all the time you put into them is wasted and to them it doesn’t mean anything because they lost all those memories. This was kind of a stretch on my part.
I really enjoyed the movie There is one thing I had a problem with that had nothing to do with the movie: while watching the movie, there was a baby crying somewhere in the crowd and I tried my best to ignore it. Jack-Jack, did you teleport yourself to the crowd?
Theodore A. Watts I absolutely hate people who bring babies to movies (sorry if any of you do, but I dislike you now). There is absolutely NO point of bringing a baby to the movies, it won't watch, and it won't remember. And that little piece of whining trash will... well whine. Next time a baby cries just pick it up, and punt it out of the door. It does have to be outside either. When doing it inside, it will either hit the roof or wall and that'll shut the dumb thing up fast. 10/10 life hack, would do again.
the villain was the weakest part of the movie, but everything else was really enjoyable, I was in a packed theatre with everyone my age (19-25) and we just had a great time
yeah same. I had a fun time with my family going to see this movie like we did the first. to me that's ll that mattered, but I understand the points of people criticizing it
I feel like the reason they were able to legalize super heroes so smoothly is because they had a whole plan for it. First of all they stated that the government hate superheroes is because they don’t see what the superhero is going through, they only see the mess they create after it. They fixed this problem by creating small cameras so they can see the heroes point of view. Also they chose Elastagirl for a reason. When she was doing her job as a super hero she caused no damage and she did an excellent job giving the idea that superheroes are not bad and are a necessity to society. Also people would be exited to see Elastagirl because she is a hero. Everyone loves hero’s, especially Elastagirl because she doesn’t cause any problems.
Genesis 9302003 The issue is that there is ZERO pushback from anyone. If everyone is into superheroes, why did they ever go illegal? Especially when this same public protested against superheroes causing them to go illegal.
The movie was great, if I had to nitpick I'd say that the screenslaver had a lot of untapped potential. A serious theory I had was if it had been a hallucination of the people it had control over, and that it manifested through electronics. And that it affected people who had PTSD from any superhero (or villain) misdoings. Maybe I'm overthinking it a bit too much- I'm just saying, it could've been an intense psychological villain.
i was personally hoping it was the brother. Cause then it would have been 'hey guys the bad guy is the one who made Heroes legal again, that was his entre evil plan'
@@fairystail1 Winston & Evelyn were kind of the most blandest characters throughout the whole film, and they should've honestly come up with a better villain & plot
Lola Popente I feel like the villain in this movie was a big spin around on what Syndrome was, instead of being obvious it was hidden, instead of wasting time monologuing (Quote from Syndrome: “Look at that, you caught me in the middle of monologuing you sly dog!”) they get straight to the point and talk later, which is surprising, I mean they straight up pull off their attack on Elastigirl in a split second they don’t waste ANY time when she finds out the truth, and instead of being focused on pure strength, they’re more manipulative and cunning
Lola Popente I love Syndrome but found this villain more menacing. The fight in the light flashing room was so intense. As for Syndrome I really don't think he thought his plan through. He was going to save the day. Get tons of accolades from the public. Then after he had his fun would sell his inventions. What he didn't realize is that supers are *illegal* . Unlike The Incredibles he wouldn't have Agent Rick Dicker to smooth things out as he did at the end of Omnidroid incident. So he would have been arrested on the spot. His inventions would have been confiscated.
Maybe because they started production a few years after the first movie, so "damn" and "hell" were probably still common in PG movies. Hell, just look at Shrek.
Or even mentioned alcohol and inebriation whilst using the word damn and hell. It is a PG movie so it's not necessarily unexpected, we just assume that because movies are marketed to a younger audience that they won't put a single word in there that's worse than crap (or mention any type of adult theming).
Salt Daddy The long long holiday was an excellent series. We need to see more animation views of history. Programmers need to see that animation can tell more than comedies.
I came at the Bob-and-the-kids trope from a different angle. It doesn't make sense for Bob to be a bad dad--he's got TWO kids, even if he had a nine-to-five he DEFINITELY helped raise both of them. You can even see him doing so during the Life's Incredible Again sequence. The change here is that if Helen was in his position, she'd be struggling too--things just pile up on him at once, and in order to catch up, which he DOES (I especially like the part where he stays up all night to learn Dash's math homework), he has to sacrifice his time to sleep--because he's doing this without a partner, his wife. The twist villain was definitely meh, though--me and my MOM both figured it out way before the reveal. Buddy/Syndrome was a good twist villain because he was introduced as a joke. The audience forgets him because we think we've already gotten the "punchline". But I don't think there was any good way to introduce REDACTED as a joke because they're so integral to the story as it goes on...but they definitely didn't have to sit in the shadows of every scene and give such ominous dialogue, jeesh. xD
Flurrin I didn’t trust that girl the moment she said her first line, and then when she revealed herself I accidentally shouted “I knew it!!” Maybe we were supposed to know and have like a dramatic irony type of thing?
Yeah, I didn't see his main conflict being that he has to learn how to take care of the kids, more like he was jealous that he couldn't be a superhero but Helen gets to have all the action. But then, just as I was starting to worry it would be all about his jealousy which gets in the way of his parenting duties and will end up in a conflict between him and Helen and the kids, he CHANGES HIS ATTITUDE, drops his ego and takes a proactive role in making their situation work. Like you said, he has always played a role in raising the kids, and he was suddenly left with a lot of problems that he had to deal with on his own. Between Violet's angsty outbursts (and her anger made sense), Dash's brattiness and Jack-Jack's unpredictable powers, it would have been a challenge even if both of them were there to deal with them. Also I too, (like many) saw the villain a mile away - even their NAME was a giveaway.
Maybe we're just so saturated in media with twist villains at this point that we can't help looking for one. Who knows! Whatever happened to having a bad guy throughout the movie that you just cut back to in the middle of his schemes. xD
I agree completely! I think all of the kids had good reasons to feel and act the way they did, too. It's a great family. I wish Bob had felt a little bit of genuine happiness for his wife being out there livin' her best life, but we can't win them all, I guess--I still think Bird did a great job.
The movie is pretty bad from a story standpoint the arc of the main characters espically violet and Mr Incredible are either pointless or are not executed well
As Edna put it "Parenting is a heroic work." I saw Bobs arc as a way of highlighting the efforts parents go through to raise kids and considering this movie is 14 years after the original a lot of kids who have seen the original are starting to raise family's of there own by now.
David Ray Is Edna genuinely not a super though? We've never seen her put suits together on screen. She may have some kind of ability that lets her rearrange any element into a piece of fabric. Or the ability of a spider to spin webs into fabric.
Unfortunately (and I mean VERY unfortunately), there has never been enough screen time for Edna Mode, but both of the The Incredibles films make up for it in so many ways.
Fun fact, I got to see this movie before it was supposed to be in theaters. I went to see Solo, and there was a glitch in their system that kept Solo until a late-late showing and also put Incredibles in early. I honestly think I got the better end of the deal that night.
My two cents on The Incredibles 2 - The animation especially the color schemes are amazing - The presentation is really good - The soundtrack by Michael Gicchiano is great, especially the Incredits - The Screenslaver, though predictable is an interesting villain especially his powers - Edna is back and the moments with her and Jack Jack are hillarious - The B-Plot I actually liked, though I can understand if any of you don't - The fight scenes were great - The Screenslaver 's hideout feels like something out of a sci -fi horror film - The new supers are entertaining - The recurring are just as awesome as ever in my opinion - And it was all thanks to the great Bras Bird!! All in all, an Incredible sequel to an Incredible movie ...... I'll see myself out the door.
I agree it was an amazing film I just would prefer a prequel where we got to see what the og heroes were up to (the ones edna mode mentioned in the first film). or i would like to see another version where its a family of villians vs the parr family, thatd be interesting
7:57 While the movie was "simpler" it wasn't "less mature," it had swearing and alcohol which on their own aren't uncommon in animated films but are practically unheard of for Pixar, so I doubt it was parent complaints that caused it.
Weavile is the best the dumpling was a representation for her real son and wasnt really real her eating the dumpling was a representation for her desire to keep her kid from leaving her.
How about this: the whole dumpling thing was a dream the lady had, as she was trying to cope with her Empty Nest Syndrome and the fact that she and her son didn't part on the best of terms. The end shows him coming back to visit and the two of them reconciling.
Just got out of the theaters today, and yes, it couldn't be the masterpiece that the first Incredibles was, but it was so much fun I couldn't help but enjoy myself a lot. They did the "Mr. Mom" thing much better with Bob because he's NOT incompetent, he's just overworked.
this just hit me The powers are sorta like cliché family stuff, Son energetic, daughter quiet, mom needs to take care of everything, dad is strong, baby unpredictable. Holy shit.
Yeah I guess the animators agree because in Incredibles 2, the animators de aged her about 5 years and she's in these weirdass poses, like Holy Jesús she's a fucking cartoon
No, Brad Bird said that he wouldn’t make an Incredibles 2 movie until he thought of a story that could hold a light to the first movie. It started production well after Incredibles was released.
I do wanna say this about the villain. I think she was foreshadowed pretty well, but in a subtle way. First off, her wardrobe was almost exclusively black and white, tying into the hypnosis motif. Two, it was established early on that she wasn't as starry-eyed as her brother where heroes were involved, but it didn't feel forced because she was played as the more cynical of the two right from the start. Three (and this was where I actually started to realize she might be the villain) the 'genius behind the genius' line. So, while she isn't as good a twist villain as, say, Cruz from Coco (who I found really good because he never once changed his core ideaology, or even really hid it-seize the moment, no matter what, has always had darker implications for more cynical viewers) I do think this was one of the best foreshadowed ones. Also, could we talk for a moment about how phenomenally creepy all of Screenslaver's scenes were? Not even just the scene at the hideout (but that fight scene in the screen room had a desperate, fight or flight tinge to it that definitely made it the creepiest)-the way she of to the talkshow host and then the plane, and even the little girl holding the sign, were all so eerie. I agree though, the weakest part of the movie was the romance subplot, although that did give us the best face in the movie, when Violet shot water out her nose.
6:00 THANK YOU! This is something that I'm honestly surprised I haven't heard a lot. While I do think Incredibles 2 is a great and fun movie as it is, expanding more on the opposition to heroes would've made it a much stronger narrative. Add to that what I thought the Screenslaver twist was going to be (he's a puppet villain controlled by the siblings to give Elastigirl an opponent while being in direct control of how much damage is done), and you've got a solid follow up on the theme of "breaking the law to change it." Honestly, it's so much of a no-brainer plotline that it makes me wonder if there's a previous draft that used those ideas. But eh, as it stands, the movie is still great. Won me over from my disappointment that there wasn't a timeskip, and MAN, those fights were awesome!
Little Winky Now that I think about it, a really cool way they could have done the twist villain is introduce one of their old hero pals at some point, maybe a flashback or something, and have them be the Screen Slaver, creating an opponent for Helen to fight so that they can remove the supers ban, all the while still making it look like the Deavers must be behind it from a viewers perspective. The problem with this twist villain is that they introduce enough characters, so we were instantly drawn to the brother and sister. I really enjoyed this movie, it was brilliant in terms of comedy and action, but the plot was genuinely lacking.
Honestly, I thought this was just as good as the original! I didn't mind the father trope and I actually thought the story and characters were fantastic! The only minor problem is that the villain was kinda obvious, but after 14 years, I finally got my childhood sequel!
SlyShadow the villain was a little obvious but I totally got fooled on the motive. I thought one or both of the siblings had created a villain to help promote elastagirl and didn’t pick up on the hatred for hero’s until later.
i also love how he wasn't overprotective about Tony. He actually tried to make it up to Violet about the memory erase thing and tried to set her up with him. It didn't go that well but it was a nice gesture on his part
When she said quirk instead of power for the first time I spit out my water. The second time made me smile and when she interrupted her review of the incredibles to make a small speech on the amazing impact of MHA I literally squealed. Thank you CellSpex for unintentionally brightening my day!
The Incredibles (and likely the sequel) is less of a movie about superheroes and more of a movie about family That’s why the scenes about Bob being a dad are in it The focus is the family, not the superheroes
Zombie Guy I was thinking the same thing. If it was going to be an all out superhero movie, then it wouldn't be The Incredibles. The first one was family based while the sequel is heavily all about family with more action. To me, this is fine.
I loved incredibles 2. I thought it was just as good as the first, not better, not worse. The villain was the only weak spot for me. But wow, i'm just not getting why people think boku no hero is so groundbreaking and thought provoking. Like, I love the show and I think it's great, but i don't think it's that deep? It's just fun. Am I missing something? Or is it just cus we haven't had a good ol' fashioned shounen in a while?
Lol...you went on a whole rant about your favorite anime hahahah. That's silly. Ones a show the other is a movie. And the Villains philosophy has been done numerous times in Super hero comics so it's not borrowed from MHA. It's just...over used I guess. Also you have to remember the incredibles is a FAMILY movie first. So the Bob and kids stuff was needed. I personally just like the 1st one better because it felt more personal and emotional.
I’m absolutely ecstatic that you recommended the Long, Long Holiday! I remember accidentally stumbling upon it on Netflix and first being like ‘oh hey, this simple animation reminds me of the kid cartoons of my youth’ but then like an hour or two later I was in a puddle of my own tears. Such a great series!
I really enjoyed Incredibles 2 and feel like it lived up to the first one. I loved all the family stuff as they are relatable. The long nights of having arguments over maths with my dad, my dad embarrassing me in front of a boy I like and calling my mum at work and being told not too because she's busy. However the villain was too predictable, I knew from the start that it was either the big time salesman or the inventor. I would've liked if it was Rick because it would've been more of a surprise. Maybe he will be in the next one.
I feel like bob really shined in this one. I mean no doubt elastagirl was AMAZING and it’s so good to see a female hero take such a strong role in a movie, but I didn’t feel like bobs cliche of being a “dumb dad” was a fair way to describe his story. I personally felt like bob did a great job with “normal” kids. He made breakfast, he got the kids to school, he looked after the baby, the house was clean and organized. He was a very capable dad and it showed. The math thing was very relatable for me because I had this exact experience with my dad at the table with homework, and the fact that he stayed up to learn what his kid was learning it just warmed my heart. The only time he struggled was with the super stuff: jack jacks unpredictable powers, violet dealing with the government interfering with her friends, and dash being way too fast thinking and too impatient. Which is understandable and REAL. I felt like this whole movie was real! The dialogue felt so natural it was almost unnatural compared to so many other dumbed down kids movies. All in all I felt like they tackled the situation so well! No one was perfect and no one was Too flawed
the only question i have to ask is how did the supers in the incredibles universe get their powers? are they born with them like mutants? was there a giant accident that gave lots of people powers?
Ryan Law I have a theory that the supers from the glory days were appointed by the US government and given powers to protect the country from crime. Any supers born after that are born of the altered genes their parents went through.
I figure they are mutants. The year is 1962 according to the newspaper in The Incredibles. Plus it seems that when both parents have powers the kids have a 100% chance to have them as well.
My BFF Is A Flip Flop I Found On The Road Nice theory. However if you listen to the additional features on the Blu ray of the Incredibles. They are interviewing Elastagirl. As she explains how hard it is to keep her costumes from losing shape as she stretches. The government officials liasson direct her to Edna Mode. If she was government created wouldn't they have already given her a costume?
I honestly enjoyed this movie more than the first (and that’s saying something). I just really liked seeing more experimental uses with everyone’s powers. The plot definitely wasn’t as good but the action scenes were definitely better in my opinion. I also enjoyed the new superheroes and their unique powers. Plot twist was predictable but decently executed. I honestly smiled during a lot of the scenes in this movie just because of how good it was and the nostalgia running through my veins😂. This was definitely the sequel we deserved for this series guys.
Like other commenters are saying, I thought that the siblings created the Screenslaver to make superheroes legal again. I wasn't surprised that the villain was who they were. At first, I didn't think they were a twist villain because I thought it too obvious. But maybe I can't even tell the difference anymore. In the first scene with the villain, they are portrayed in this "awkward scatterbrained klutz" type of way that I hated. What I did like was the way they argued humans should save themselves. Instead of bonding, Helen and the villain should have debated over that the help with the main theme.
it's funny because even though barely touch the villains backstory but just the way they acted and even their character design. They look like a very sad depressed individual who has given up on the world and has a hard time talking and relating people.
I love how the villain's creed was supposedly that people should save themselves and not rely on superheroes... and yet their evil plan centrally involved creating huge disasters that ONLY a superhero could ever be expected to handle. (I mean, how are people supposed to "save themselves" from an out-of-control speeding TRAIN??)
Helen's voice was hard for me to take. In the last fourteen years, Holly Hunter's speech quirk (a little bit like Sid the Sloth), has become much more prominent, to the point that it's jarring to hear the voice work in the two movies back-to-back. It honestly took me the first half hour of the movie just to get past that and pay attention to the plot.
So, I liked this movie. I didn’t LOVE it, but it was mostly good. It wasn’t as amazing and great experience the first one was, but the animation did improve from the first. I don’t wanna go into too much detail because spoilers, but if you haven’t already, go see The Incredibles 2, I agree that it’s worth the trip to the theatre. That’s my review and have a nice day. 😉
The first incredibles is my second favorite movie of all time, so I was very skeptical. But this movie was the follow up we deserved imo, I REAAAALLLLY liked this movie! The action was amazing, the animation was beautiful, and the characters were amazing. I’d give it a 9.5/10 personally
Ethan Folz How to Train your dragon 2 had the word 'bitchy' and no one batted an eye. I'm pretty sure by today's standards, 'hell' and 'damn' aren't really considered swear words, probably because they're "soft" compared to other swear words.
The Incredibles 2 Results: Dr. Wolf/Gilberto: 1st AniMat: 2nd Tamara/PaleoSteno: 3rd Jim Gisriel: 4th CellSPex: 5th/Last I won again for the second time. And oh boy, next movie on my list: Teen Titans GO! To The Movies. Wish me luck with TTG. Now, don't give that look. I know TTG is not for everyone, but rest assured I won't find it anywhere good as My Little Pony The Movie from last year. So don't worry about me, I'll be fine.
I kind of think this one is better. Bob had to change and calming down being at home, how he handled his teenage daughter trying to help with the boy instead of leaving her to deal it with herself. And how he realizing that Dash is a lot how he was when it came to his old car. The fighting was good, the new supers were good, and comedy moments were good, also we cant forget the animation was so amazing.
Just finished The Long, Long Holiday and wow, what a beautiful series! I honestly I wish it were longer, I hate that I’m already done! Thanks SO MUCH for the recommendation :D
I loved Incredibles 2. I thought it was a great film, and while the stay-at-home father dynamic didn't really contribute to the story, sure, it contributed a LOT to the development of Bob as a character. Also I do admit the bags under Violet's eyes were a little distracting, I kept wondering why she looked like she only got 3 hours of sleep regularly. I could understand if they only showed up for one or two scenes, especially after the intended date, but they were there the entire film.
Agreed. It was immediately evident it was going to be either Winston or Evelyn (possibly both), but when Evelyn and Helen had their chat at the super party, it became really obvious Evelyn was the villain and Winston's over-niceness was a red herring.
Honestly, I was VERY surprised when I heard they were making a sequel. It’s been so long I honestly thought it was never gonna happen. I’m glad I saw it in theaters
The fact that she says quirks a lot in this video is just glorious 😂 I say quirk a lot when I talk about superhero with my friends instead of saying powers, its just such a good show
Can you tell me one thing? Does the second movie fix the first movie plot hole? You know... Where the bloody hell were the supervillains? Why and how did they disappear for 15 years before conveniently coming back JUST as the supers come back?
The Whisperer of Death I really thought that's what they were going to do when I heard it was going to pick up where the first one ended with the introduction of The Underminer. Would have made sense, and definitely been a better reason to advocate the return of Superheroes; your average police force is not going to be able to handle a Death-Ray or other Supervillain scenario.
KnightsaysNi The Underminer has no powers, he only has this huge drill thing. Weird, I know, but it seems that literally all people with super powers are good in this universe m.
I honestly thought that this was a good movie and a very good follow-up to the first one. While I do believe that the first one will always be better, I believe that this one is a very good movie. I have to disagree with you on the whole argument that they should have spent more time on Elastigirl. While I do think they should have spent a little more time on the story between Elastigirl and the Screenslaver since it was a very interesting story, The Incredibles has always been a family drama movie disguised as a superhero movie. They spent more time on Bob and his relationship with the kids because the Incredibles has always been more about the relationships in the family. But other than that, I mostly agree with you
One thing I liked very much is that Bob's problems weren't "incompetent dad" problems: Bob's not incompetent, just very understandably overwhelmed. Dash, no problem. Violet, sure. Dash and Violet, yeah. Dash, Violet and a regular baby, OK. But Jack-Jack's uncountable and unpredictable powers are just too much for him to take in addition to the other two kids. Note how much better he does after he get a break, and gets a way to keep Jack-Jack under control.
Say what you want, but this is objectively the best Fantastic Four sequel out there.
victor hoang No. it’s the best Fantastic Four movie ever.
No. it’s the best Fantastic Four movie ever
no the first Incredibles
is still better
There's only been one other F4 sequel so far.
ok, i have to give it to you, you found the only positive thing about Incredibles 2
Congratulations
And now, FF is in the MCU. Let's see what happens
You wanna know why it took 14 years?
Look at before and after pictures of Tony

Timothy McLean
Nice analysis on what the theme is. I like the trust theme. From what you explained here, I kind of want more of this theme in more movies.
I agree on the whole trust theme
i think that it shows that trust can be both good and bad depending on who you put it on
I agree with this theme, i guess a stronger thesis would be trust your values?
I'd also add Heroism.
The core message of the film is that heroic acts are present and valuable in many places, from being a superhero and protecting citizens, to being a father/parent and protecting your children.
Even Edna Mode talks about how parenting in and of itself is a "heroic act".
Here are my thoughts on the movie.
- I really enjoyed it, the action was spectacular.
- The family dad aspect was great
- even though I could totally tell who the villain would be in the beginning, I thought screenslaver was fucking disturbing.... I was genuinely freaked out, and that's super rare for me.
- the pacing felt a little mixed, super fast and super slow at times.
I adore this movie. I really really loved it.
Eh, the original Incredibles had pretty fast pacing as well
I miss Syndrome.
It was clear Evelyn was going to be the villain, but her plan still surprised me some. It was unpredictable enough to be interesting.
Yeah. I found Screenslaver really disturbing. Until the plot twist where Evelyn became really meh villian.
I personally think that Pixar really didn't try to hide the fact that Evelyn was going to be the main villain... she seemed shady from the start, which I'm fairly certain was on purpose and her name literally sounds like the words "evil endeavor"... so yeah I don't think they were trying to hide it, I think they wanted the audience to focus on the message of the villain and not who the villain actually turned out to be
Edna is a wonderful character. I will fight you on this!
I love Edna! She's so funny, her design is funny, and her voice is... well, funny!
No capes!
Or I can fight with you on this.
Is that a deal.
Auntie Edna
Is this a question??!!🤣🤣
The plot was fairly simple but the execution of the film was the best i've seen from pixar. I'd even rank it higher than most of the superhero films i've seen in the last decade
The first Incredibles is better than any Marvel and/or DC movie from the last few years, change my mind
pearlberry nah you're good
pearlberry oh i see we have another Crowder fan in here
Eh I'd argue the Marvel Movies are pretty great these days. But I agree with the DC movies not being up to snuff here recently @@chiyowee2721
Are your screenslaver brand nostalgia goggles glued to your face.
'the dad struggling to raise kids trope' (in 2018)
the setting of the film is in the 60s, I believe.
Exactly. This was good character development for Bob, in my opinion.
(And everywhere I look into, they do say it's set in the 60's)
I had a fun time with it. Sure, was it easy to guess the villian? For sure. But it was just great seeing the Parr family back on the big screen again. The action was fun, the animation is beautiful, and the story was a great role reversal from the first.
Wes Papes Haven't seen it, but I wish they didn't treat it like a twist.
gars129 It's the weakest part of the movie, but I didn't pay it much attention. I just wanted to have a good time.
I was instantly like “ok the villain is one of the rich kids” lol
This is a very underrated comment.
@@HolyShmolies This needs so many more upvotes! THIS is literally the only reason why The Incredibles was made in the first place: the concept on what it means to be a FAMILY. Missing this point is like completely r/whoosh the whole movie.

Yeah, Brad Bird purposely decided to focus on family as he thought the superpower genre was overused, and was no longer unique.

This and Ratatouille if they put more light on that movie.
It's the merch buddy.
gars129 this movie series has just as much merchandise as Cars and it a high quality film series that can go in manu direction.
Yes but when you factor in the merch the CARS franchise has made more than 8 billion dollars. More than it's(PIXAR's) other films so business wise it makes sense why they(DISNEY) would focus on a Cars film first than an Incredibles film.
That's what happens when you care only about money instead of the fans that have the money.

*14* *years* *later* Coming this summer: Incredibles 3
Luna, or T Challa Loud/Mama
Ik, just joking on how long it took for the sequel
Alexia Barrera we won't need a third movie. The story ends with this one. Time for original stories! No. More. Sequels!
David Ray
And then there’s toy story 4... if it ever happens
Luna, or T Challa Loud/Mama Will this series really move to Marvel?
David Ray I want to have a tv series of the incredibles instead of a third incredibles film!
Damn man, that was deep bro.
Frozones wife was back to the best character
Yeah Honey is the best.
I really enjoyed the movie
There is one thing I had a problem with that had nothing to do with the movie: while watching the movie, there was a baby crying somewhere in the crowd and I tried my best to ignore it.
Jack-Jack, did you teleport yourself to the crowd?
Luna, or T Challa Loud/Mama Hahaha, oh you are funny.
Me? Oh, thank you.
At least you weren't sitting three chairs from a screaming baby.
Sure, he calmed down after a while but *_man_* what a mess he made.
Theodore A. Watts
I absolutely hate people who bring babies to movies (sorry if any of you do, but I dislike you now).
Me too. Was the cinema that you went, Village cinemas Karingal by any chance?
the villain was the weakest part of the movie, but everything else was really enjoyable, I was in a packed theatre with everyone my age (19-25) and we just had a great time
TheCoolperson1996 Yeah, the villain wasn't as ruthless or evil as Syndrome.
Yeah, the villains motivations weren't believable, at least in my opinion, and their scheme made even less sense.
Yeah the villain felt rushed. Kinda wish it was someone else I would’ve waited an extra month or year for screenslaver to be refined.
Lisa Barnes it would have been neat if the screensaver was a legit bad guy and not a puppet because he could have been really intimidating
Genesis 9302003 Exactly!!! Finally someone gets it
And so no Tumblrs can go “ThIs MoViE iS sExIsT”
TheCrazedPotato Man Aw, come on. Tumblr isn't THAT bad. It is just how the internet is. Loud idiots everywhere.
That’s FASCINATING WOW. I would LOVE to see an idea like that.
For me, the scenes with the kids were a good cooldown from the elasticigirl scenes, you have to admit, they get pretty intense.
I thought Syndrome was a much better villain than this stupid twist villain. I was so disappointed when they revealed who it was
Lola Popente I feel like the villain in this movie was a big spin around on what Syndrome was, instead of being obvious it was hidden, instead of wasting time monologuing (Quote from Syndrome: “Look at that, you caught me in the middle of monologuing you sly dog!”) they get straight to the point and talk later, which is surprising, I mean they straight up pull off their attack on Elastigirl in a split second they don’t waste ANY time when she finds out the truth, and instead of being focused on pure strength, they’re more manipulative and cunning
I was surprised when they said damn and hell in a Pixar movie
Maybe because they started production a few years after the first movie, so "damn" and "hell" were probably still common in PG movies. Hell, just look at Shrek.
They also said Crap. And yeah me too. But remember they said hell in both cars and ratatouiil.
When?
Me too.
Or even mentioned alcohol and inebriation whilst using the word damn and hell. It is a PG movie so it's not necessarily unexpected, we just assume that because movies are marketed to a younger audience that they won't put a single word in there that's worse than crap (or mention any type of adult theming).
I got to see this movie a day early and I absolutely loved it! It made me laugh so hard and I would definitely watch it again.

YES THE LONG LONG HOLIDAY WAS LOVELY AND REALLY COOL! MORE PEOPLE NEED TO WATCH IT
Salt Daddy The long long holiday was an excellent series. We need to see more animation views of history. Programmers need to see that animation can tell more than comedies.
I binged the whole thing when I broke my ankle. It's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
But I don't think there was any good way to introduce REDACTED as a joke because they're so integral to the story as it goes on...but they definitely didn't have to sit in the shadows of every scene and give such ominous dialogue, jeesh. xD
Flurrin I didn’t trust that girl the moment she said her first line, and then when she revealed herself I accidentally shouted “I knew it!!”
Maybe we were supposed to know and have like a dramatic irony type of thing?
I wish Bob had felt a little bit of genuine happiness for his wife being out there livin' her best life, but we can't win them all, I guess--I still think Bird did a great job.
happychaosofthenorth wow.....I’m just now getting that Evelyn Deavor’s name is a play in the words “evil endeavor”
My only problem is villain predictable and little weak. I can understand why it doing, but first incredible villain better.
I agree. I could tell who the villain was pretty much the moment it was revealed.
I kept denying it until the reveal saying "They can't be that obvious, can they? Please be someone else.." Ah well.
I liked the villain in this, she was an interesting character in my opinion. Though Syndrome is still a million times better.
The brother should have been the villain. He could be a crazy fanboy who caused calamity on purpose so heroes could save the day
FN - 2187 Then you don’t know good villains. Watch YMS.
I found all of the characters really enjoyable!!
My only problems is just the villain's reveal, and the wasted superheros that were wasted :/

As Edna put it "Parenting is a heroic work." I saw Bobs arc as a way of highlighting the efforts parents go through to raise kids and considering this movie is 14 years after the original a lot of kids who have seen the original are starting to raise family's of there own by now.
In my opinion,
0/10 not enough Edna
Maji Yeah that sucked
Maji she's not a super. Also, a 0 is invalid. Must be at least a 1.
Definitely the most memorable character from the incredibles. Should have made this a totally new film about Edna.
The Incredibles took a long time BECAUSE the director didn’t want to make it just for money. He wanted a real story pitch.
Captain Kekeriki NO WAAAY NOBODY HAS EVER DONE THAT BEFORE
Fun fact, I got to see this movie before it was supposed to be in theaters. I went to see Solo, and there was a glitch in their system that kept Solo until a late-late showing and also put Incredibles in early. I honestly think I got the better end of the deal that night.

Me: Are They ALL likeable though? *Cough* Mineta *cough*
My two cents on The Incredibles 2
- The animation especially the color schemes are amazing
- The presentation is really good
- The soundtrack by Michael Gicchiano is great, especially the Incredits
- The Screenslaver, though predictable is an interesting villain especially his powers
- Edna is back and the moments with her and Jack Jack are hillarious
- The B-Plot I actually liked, though I can understand if any of you don't
- The fight scenes were great
- The Screenslaver 's hideout feels like something out of a sci -fi horror film
- The new supers are entertaining
- The recurring are just as awesome as ever in my opinion
- And it was all thanks to the great Bras Bird!!
7:57 While the movie was "simpler" it wasn't "less mature," it had swearing and alcohol which on their own aren't uncommon in animated films but are practically unheard of for Pixar, so I doubt it was parent complaints that caused it.
is no one going to talk about the short film before it
I thought the short film before it was pretty good but I got a little confused towards the end.
Weavile is the best the dumpling was a representation for her real son and wasnt really real her eating the dumpling was a representation for her desire to keep her kid from leaving her.
Okay that makes more sense, thanks for telling me and your wording needs a little work. Just saying.

Mom" thing much better with Bob because he's NOT incompetent, he's just overworked.
this just hit me
The powers are sorta like cliché family stuff,
Son energetic, daughter quiet, mom needs to take care of everything, dad is strong, baby unpredictable.

I think she'll win
Correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think she has much competition.

Quirk : word replacement
Type : emmiter
What it does : makes her say quirk instead of powers
I just saw the Incredibles 2 today, and I was very impressed. It’s great to see you review this.
Creepy Jar of Money So you saw it...2day?
Honestly, I thought this was just as good as the original! I didn't mind the father trope and I actually thought the story and characters were fantastic! The only minor problem is that the villain was kinda obvious, but after 14 years, I finally got my childhood sequel!
SlyShadow the villain was a little obvious but I totally got fooled on the motive. I thought one or both of the siblings had created a villain to help promote elastagirl and didn’t pick up on the hatred for hero’s until later.
I give the the movie 7/10
i also love how he wasn't overprotective about Tony.

The Incredibles (and likely the sequel) is less of a movie about superheroes and more of a movie about family
That’s why the scenes about Bob being a dad are in it
The focus is the family, not the superheroes

I was thinking the same thing. If it was going to be an all out superhero movie, then it wouldn't be The Incredibles. The first one was family based while the sequel is heavily all about family with more action.

Quirk ... is that from my hero
Ha....
NERD!
Says the PIKACHU
@@bread9572 no it doesn't, it's the best anime series EVER!!!
@@tashakeesler9824 the og post was deleted, but trust me, mha is NOT even close to being COMPARABLE to series actually worthy for that title
It was pretty good.
Can't wait to see this film 😄👌
Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
Space Case I'm sure of that , hopefully I'll find it better then finding dory which I found alright.
And bring a few tissues for the opening short. It’s a tearjerker.
Nathaniel Foga I hope you liked Piper, the short before Finding Dory.
I saw it in the theater yesterday, its really good in my option
The story did feel rushed at times. i wish there were more protests to not legalize supers.
Seamus Gorman did a theory video about that.
Pretty sure they're mutants....or quirks.
I figure they are mutants. The year is 1962 according to the newspaper in The Incredibles. Plus it seems that when both parents have powers the kids have a 100% chance to have them as well.
My BFF Is A Flip Flop I Found On The Road
Nice theory.
I’ve thought about it more and I think I would give it an 8/10
Is nobody going to talk about the fact they say hell and damn in this?
Ethan Folz How to Train your dragon 2 had the word 'bitchy' and no one batted an eye.
I'm pretty sure by today's standards, 'hell' and 'damn' aren't really considered swear words, probably because they're "soft" compared to other swear words.
who the hell gives a damn?
RYHS You deserve a medal
Frozone also says "what the f---"
Matthew Greer that’s because it’s Samuel L Jackson

I won again for the second time. And oh boy, next movie on my list: Teen Titans GO! To The Movies. Wish me luck with TTG. Now, don't give that look. I know TTG is not for everyone, but rest assured I won't find it anywhere good as My Little Pony The Movie from last year. So don't worry about me, I'll be fine.
the "her quirk-- I mean, *power*" thing is so frickin relatable. Ever since I watched bnha I always have the impulse to say quirk its so hARD not to!
My fav pixar movie is CoCo
Yes! YES!
Sub To Me For No Reason CoCo is overrated and after the Cars movies it is the worst Pixar movie
Joseph Brennan well you obviously have never seen how bad cars 2 is
Sub To Me For No Reason Cars 2 > The Good Dinosaur
RiderNexus have you even seen the backgrounds in The Good Dinosaur? THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL! Cars 2 just sucks
I think you have the workings of a film theory video with the hero academia/incredible thing...just learn to stretch a script for 5 more minutes
IM WHEEZING 1:36
I LOVE YOU FOR MAKING AN MHA REFERENCE
Same!!!!
“Her quirk,I’m mean power”
Me: MHA
I loved Incredibles 2. I thought it was a great film, and while the stay-at-home father dynamic didn't really contribute to the story, sure, it contributed a LOT to the development of Bob as a character.
Also I do admit the bags under Violet's eyes were a little distracting, I kept wondering why she looked like she only got 3 hours of sleep regularly. I could understand if they only showed up for one or two scenes, especially after the intended date, but they were there the entire film.
The Incredibles is the Best Movie ever and You can't Change my mind.
I personalty thought that it was really easy to identify the villain instantly...
ditto
Nope. Quite the opposite.
KnightsaysNi
The Underminer has no powers, he only has this huge drill thing. Weird, I know, but it seems that literally all people with super powers are good in this universe m.
Honestly, I like Incredibles 2 a little better than the original
I agree with most of these
“Her quirk” omg I love this 😂😂
The Incredibles is one of the best sequels I've ever seen
I honestly thought that this was a good movie and a very good follow-up to the first one. While I do believe that the first one will always be better, I believe that this one is a very good movie. I have to disagree with you on the whole argument that they should have spent more time on Elastigirl. While I do think they should have spent a little more time on the story between Elastigirl and the Screenslaver since it was a very interesting story, The Incredibles has always been a family drama movie disguised as a superhero movie. They spent more time on Bob and his relationship with the kids because the Incredibles has always been more about the relationships in the family. But other than that, I mostly agree with you
What about you talking about? It’s a amazing film. This is what I want for a Incredibles sequel.
No capes
Ouch, so that were those infamous scenes with flashing lights.
It hurts.
