My favourite part of the incredibles was always the conversation Helen has with her kids in the cave because it felt so honest and natural and really reminded me of how my mum would talk to me.
Yeah, that scene when I was a kid was a bit of a wake up call. Villains don't care if you're a kid at all. This also came out around the time of KND and Ben 10, so yeah I think it solidified bad guys don't have qualms about kicking children.
You know who else is amazing? Sally Jackson from the Percy Jackson series. First off she is such a magnificent mortal that Poseidon, a god, fell for her when he had sworn not to after a world ending prophecy said he shouldn't have kids. She's so great the world is worth destroying to be with her. When she realized her son let off a scent that would attract monsters she married an emotionally and physically abusive and supernaturally smelly guy to mask her sons scent to protect him. After Percy learned to protect himself she uses medusa's heat to turn said abusive husband to stone and sell his corpse for money to go back to college. She clearly hates that Percy has to go and save the world and risk his life fighting monsters but she somehow doesn't go insane from the worry. When the army of Kronos invades Manhattan what does she do when the fight comes to her? She blasts a monster away with a shotgun. Sally Jackson, Awesome.
I think I'd include Queen Elinor from Brave too. She's flawed, and she has her differences with Merida, but when it comes to it she'd LITERALLY TAKE ON GIANT DEMON BEARS FOR HER DAUGHTER.
@@wastelandlegocheem I think it's partly because of Merida. A lot of people don't like her because she's pretty terrible to her mom. She turned her into a bear after all.
@@whoahanant lots of protagonists start bad then IMPROVE. That's part of the hero's journey. Woody was pretty terrible in toy story then near the end he was sacrificing himself and broke the rule of toys to save buzz
@@wastelandlegocheem that's what I think too but apparently a lot of people just don't understand the word "improve". Cause every time I see people's reasons on why they don't like a character it's them looking at the characters past actions and holding it over them. In some cases I understand but in Meridas case I don't think she was evil enough to be not liked. Like bruh she was going to be forced to marry I would probably do something similar to her or just freakin run away lol.
About time Helen was put on a list like this, she really is an underrated mother character. And that curb-stomping she gave to Ms. Li is fecking awesome
Grew up with the show back when it was airing and missed out on how great a character she was (What with me being in late elementary school) but owning the whole series as an adult I gotta say her and just about everyone else were extremely well flushed out characters. Even someone like Brittany who we first see as the bubble headed blond turn out to be three dimensional characters with their own problems and ambitions. Except for Kevin. Kevin's an idiot.
I absolutely loved the mother from Treasure Planet! Having to run a business, and dealing with a kid whose father just left him. It is the most underrated Disney film in my opinion!
You should see the video "Treasure Planet: Disney's Biggest Mistake." Before you judge, the "Biggest Mistake" referred to in the title isn't the movie itself, it's how Disney screwed up their ad campaign for it, making the movie sound boring and cheap, and purposefully released it at the wrong time next to far more famous movies, all because of a petty studio argument. The video explains how Treasure Planet was actually amazing and why it's so unheard of despite its beauty.
My pick for the list, not exactly #1 or anything, would likely be abuelita Imelda from Coco. Before she died, she faced immense heartbreak but was able to rise above it for the sake of her family. And, even after she died, she did everything she could to keep Miguel safe, even if their own views about music first got in the way.
Imelda is awesome. I actually expected to hate her going into the movie, but she quickly became one of my favorite characters, next to Héctor and Miguel.
I know she died, but mine is Mama Imelda from Coco. Her strict nature and love for her family feels really genuine, she'd kind of intimidate me if she were my mom or grandmother. I also truly appreciate the message of family values (especially the way she handled it, choosing her family above anything else), because not a lot of movies really do that.
thats strange, most of the movies ive seen have the 'family is all that matters' moral (a moral im not a fan of btw, my mother isnt abusive but her family was to her [im talking the only reason for her birth being it was in fashion to have a boy and girl child leading to regular beatings and rape by her 12 year old brother when she was 7] and believing she still has to love them no matter what fucks. her. up) so yeah, i really hate that moral as i see it just spits in the face of people who have been hurt irreparably because of the people that were supposed to 'love' them
@@mollymoonfan5939 When I say I love the family value moral, I don't mean just the blood-related one; I also mean the bond of people who consider each other family, blood or not (for example, Tarzan and Meet the Robinsons)
True! Even her flaws make her all the more real. She may be hard-nosed when it comes to banning music, but it's borne out of worry of ever falling for the same pitfall her husband did, letting passion come before family.
Just off the top of my head, some great "Animated Mothers" : Kyoko Honda (Fruits Basket) Perdita (101 Dalmatians) Sarabi (The Lion King) Ms. Davis (Toy Story) Queen Elinor (Brave) Chicha (Emperor's New Groove) Duchess (The Aristocats) Mrs. Potts (Beauty and the Beast) Eudora (The Princess and the Frog) Kanga (Winnie the Pooh)
100% agree except for maybe Eudora because despite being very supportive she does push the 'settle down and start a family' message onto her 19 year old daughter a bit. Honestly the problem is less her and more the themes Princess and the Frog wanted to push and she is mostly just a mouthpiece for them.
Damn right Tarzan is underrated. It's a phenomenal and gorgeous film where literally the only thing holding it back is an obvious (but still a threatening presence) villain and a stupidly pointless yet catchy skat song in the middle. Other than that, Tarzan is REALLY FRIGGIN AMAZING.
I definitely also say the Crystal Gems, they aren't technically Steven's biological moms but they raised him and ...let's face it they are totally his moms (well maybe Amethyst is more of a crazy sister but still)
Id have to say garnet from steven universe. While not technically steven's mom she has this motherly feel that makes her seem like such. She cares for steven in a way that shows her live for him she guides him throughout his life and even has struggles with him. Garnet has a motherly feel that should be praised. Just my 2 cents😀
Wolf Rider To be fair, he did actually make the effort to be a good dad in the early seasons. He took an active role in trying to solve her prom issue, he let her rebrand his business to his own detriment, he cheered her on at talent show even though her act caused property damage, he even performed an elaborate dance routine for her birthday.
The crustacean looked at the image of a young teen whale. He sighed “This is for you, Pearl” he grumbled. A young man turned around “What was that Mr. Krabs?” He asked “N-nothing. Now get your mask on Arbuckle, we’re almost there”. The camera pans out to show a large van approaching a bank...
Ms. Tonitini is seriously underrated as a character. She dishes out some seriously solid advice sometimes. Like that girls won't automatically like you if you do "be yourself", but it's important to be yourself for your own sake. Or that being supportive of your friends doesn't mean enabling their bad behavior.
It was your original review of Wolf Children that encouraged me to buy it in the first place. Now it is my favourite animated film almost without competition. I keep trying to watch it with my mother on mothers day. Unfortunately she can't stand Anime... it's fine we just watched Star Wars instead.
I enjoy Nicole Watterson because she steps beyond the bounds of the nagging workaholic mum stereotype. Marge Simpson is a free spirit that finds joy in her family and, however infrequently, outside of it.
You know, I'm starting to think midoriya was born with a quirk he got from his mom, Come on, the waterfalls that are their eyes is natural, come on, I mean realy, its a quirk, you know it is
When her husband will appear in series though? He was only mentioned as Fire Breathe quirk user and absence in Midoriya's Life. Short to cut; Inko DOES deserve to be mentioned.
@@Tony_Kim_ The creator said he'll be in the manga soon, and that he has been around. Last time he was around was before Deku applied to UA. He works overseas and is still married to Inko.
My favorite animated mother is Izuku's mother from My Hero Acadamia due to her supporting Izuku through thick and thin and always being there for him, even if he's in a dire situation.
Really all the moms in that show are really sweet. Todoroki’s is a little more controversial since she poured boiling water on his face but given the circumstances she was under I can’t say I blame her for that action, plus she’s been a really supportive mother besides that one incident. One other thing I love about Inko is how she’s not afraid to step in when she thinks her son’s in danger at UA. She has a serious discussion with All Might in the manga about how concerned she is for his safety and I love Inko’s involvement in his life.
@@youinanalternateuniverse honestly the idea that a single moment under duress like that really is a genuine thing and I respect the show for going into how hard it was on all sides. If it was todoroki's show rather than dekus I'm sure we'd have tons of more content to see how that family holds together.
So glad ur back, CellSpex! Also, I love Mrs. Rabbit from Peter Rabbit. She can be seen as stern, but when Peter is missing, we see her vulnerable side. And being a single parent, losing a child can be seen as a repeat of losing her husband.
Nice video. It's always good to see someone acknowledge good parents in animation. I hope that you'll do a list of the best dads, even though I know that it's probably going to be more difficult because of the media's (especially animation's) portrayal of fathers. It would be interesting to see who you'd pick.
Finding Nemo is (quite predictably) the best Dad story I have ever experienced. A verrrrry close second is 'Chachi 420', an extremely altered Indian adaptation of Mrs. Doubtfire. (Pssssst. The Indian version is better. Fight me.)
Android 18 cares for Maron and to an extent Krillin so much and you can see that with almost any piece of media where she and her daughter interact (including gt).
Yeah in GT she stood againts Super 17 her own twin brother and at that moment he was so powerfull he could have killed her by just flickering his finger.
Cell you want my heart explode or something....I barely get to the end without tearing up a bit, awesome list, can't argue against those top 2.......difficult to make a list so I just going to drop some of my favorites that didn't die. Martha Kent, Superman TAS (I know is adoptive mother but damn it let me have it), Queen Arianna, Tangled the series, carol OK KO, and that's as far I can think, this is hard, all my favorites are dead T.T
Who cares if Martha Kent is Superman's adoptive mother. She and John took in Superman as a baby from a crashed space ship risking the dangers that might bring to care for another life they had no connection to. They then raise him with the immovable morals that made Superman into what he is. Adoptive mothers/fathers are still real mothers/fathers who love, sweat, and bleed for their children even without their blood flowing through their veins.
Great to see someone acknowledge that Tangled: The Series exists. And yes, I absolutely agree, Arianna is a great parent. Wish I could say the same for the utter masterpiece of stupidity that is Frederick though...
I'm trying to think of some good ones... sadly, all that comes to mind is Mrs Midoriya from My hero Academia, an adorable, highstrung woman who worries about her son's wellbeing as it becomes increasingly clear how dangerous the hero line of work can be even for a young student, but still offers her full support and love to her son, fueled partially at her shame for failing to support him when he needed it most. I like her msotly cause she's a cute, likeable but not too unrealistic woman who, unlike about the majority of mother characters in animation ISN'T conventionally attractive without being elderly, and that just feels different.
Sara Fontanini she is the most realistic. Admitting she wished her son was powerless so he won't keep getting hurt. Her guilt in never believing in her boy. Not to mention the tongue lashing she dished out about how a school of superheroes let this happen.
Don't care how old this video is I will sing my praises for Jim Hawkin's mother in Treasure Planet; Sarah Hawkins. She's so caring and loving to Jim as a little boy and a young adult. The early scene where she catches Jim still up, and she starts playing with him is very sweet. Then when she convinces him to go to bed, the way they say 'I love you' to each other is so heartwarming because those three words just drip with honest care for each other. Then later, we learn of her hardship going through being a single parent to Jim, how it's affecting her and how Jim's response to it is also affecting her. Even when Jim is breaking the law, she stands by to protect him but still trying to properly discipline him. At the beginning of the movie, I feel like it's focused mainly on Jim's mother and this could be because she's the only parental figure in his life until John Silver pops up. Everything in the beginning directly affects Sarah in one way or another. It makes a point on her mental and emotional state, then slowly goes to Jim. After losing the Inn, the story shifts to Jim who just wants to make his mother happy. I know theres things im missing, im sorry im really bad with words--
You know, I never really like it when those lists mix movies and TV shows, because I feel that TV shows just have way more time to allot time to side characters. I would have rather seen this as two lists instead of one. Thus said: Great theme for a list! (My fav is Mrs. Brisby). And I want to put forward Mrs. Hawkins, who would have certainly gotten a place if the list had been movies only. Honestly, her relationship with Jim is one of the best parts of the movie, and a giant improvement of the source material, where she is pretty much a non-character.
I feel like if della duck from ducktales was in the show sooner she would be on this list if your that detacaded to your kids you would do everthing to get off the moon and get back to your kids and you survived on the moon to get back to them you deserve a spot
Okay, I definitely enjoyed Jumbo as a mom, and I do admit her capture was expected, but I have one question for Disney... ...WHY DID SHE ONLY GET ONE LINE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE?!
Marge Simpson will always be one of my favorite mom's in television. the fact that she's a genuinely good mom while having to raise three kids, a constantly needy husband, frequent money issues and things that are so out of hand makes her a saint among mothers.
When I saw Hana ranked first, I got a legit lump in my throat. Her character is so quietly strong, and her story is so bittersweet. You know she's the type who wouldn't consider herself worthy of praise, but she deserves it even more so because of it. Definitely one of my absolute favorite mother characters as well. Great list.
Hilda’s mom in Hilda. She is such a real character being a caring mother while Hilda runs around and still having somewhat of a strictness, then again she reminds me of my mom who would do what was right for Hilda, like what mine was with me.
Tricia Elric and Izumi Curtis (foster.) Both were devoted mothers. Tricia did all she could to protect her sons from the hardships of growing up in a broken family to the point of ignoring her own health needs. Izumi sold her soul and ultimately her ability to have more children to bring her baby back from the dead; she was more tough love, but still had heartwrenchingly tender moments .
No dead moms Though Izumi is 100% a good mom (Tbf though it all depends on which version you’re watching because Izumi does die in COS, a movie that’s a continuation of FMA 03)
Personally, I'd have to say mine is Charolette, from Charolette's Web. The animated movie version specifically. She's not a mother for long, but does display this. Motherly affection for Wilbur and a want to help care for him. Plus, it's a movie I watched with my own mother, so that may be why. I see a lot of her in Charolette, and the nostalgia of "Mother Earth and Father Time" always tugs at my heartstrings a bit more because my mother sung it to me when I was little.
I love that you included Mrs. Brisby, that movie is a huge nostalgic favorite of mine. It really is one of the greatest films about bravery and I love that the main character was a single mom without any real talents. Not a lot of filmmakers can turn that into an empowering characteristic but this one did.
Steven's mom is in kind of a gray area for the whole alive/dead thing. Never really 'died' so much as re-integrated into Steven. Effectively dead, though, since no longer around.
you mean Rose Quartz? it's ahrd to see her as a mother figure due to being effectively dead at the moment of steven's birth and having failed to account for him after she's gone.
True but, the episodes like the one where she recorded that video for Steven allow her to show genuine love and a little bit of motherliness from beyond the end of her existence.
Never knew a mother that didn’t make mistakes. Lion 3: Direct to Video is one of the most touching episodes in the show. Rose, knowing she couldn’t be there, wouldn’t see him grow up, but still loving him, wanting the best for him, recording that video still makes me get a little misty.
One of my favorites not on the list is Sarah Hawkins (Treasure Planet). Though she doesn't have a lot of screen time, her every moment on screen that she does have shows how much she loves her son and worries about his well-being.
I think one of my favorites has to be Maddie Fenton from Danny phantom. Yeah she’s sometimes WAY too invested in her job and her experiments but what puts her on my list is how competent she can be and how far she’d go to protect her son. Another favorite has to be the crystal gems from Steven universe. Yeah rose gave up her physical form to give birth to Steven but garnet, amethyst, and pearl(they are mother figures to Steven so I think it counts in my book.) do take good care of Steven keeping him safe while helping him recognize his potential as a gem himself. Hey can you do a top ten animated siblings?
Moms are just the absolute best. After I seeing this video, I want to hug my mom as soon as I see her. Thinking about my own favorite mom from animation, outside of Hana, I'd say chisa yukizome from dr3. Technically she's not a mother, but she certainly acts like one with how she takes care of and encourages her students. Fun fact, she and Hana have the same English voice actress.
Maria from El Tigre is one of my favourite animated mothers to be honest. Not only is she very competent and highly intelligent but you can see how much she loves her son. She even gives up her music career just so she can be closer to him. Also she becomes a real badass when she goes into her superhero alter-ego. She's just this lovely blend of intelligence, strength and affection.
Thanks for making awareness of excellent role models. Truly, they depict dedication, care and courage in many ways. Wolf Children especially showcases the hardships and highlights of motherhood.
Finns mother, Minerva, may not be alive in the technical sense, but she's such a well characterised person with such a sweet demeanor that you know she'd do everything to protect her child if the chance weren't ripped from her thanks to Martin.
It’s not entirely Martin fault. Sure his past miss deeds catching up to him is what got the ball rolling, if it weren’t for the ‘guardian’ and the possible head trauma he got from it, they probably would’ve been a happy family.
Moominmama. She’s a big snuggly marshmallow of a character that loves her son and literally every single other person that comes to her home. She is just that amazing of a person.
Great list. I’m glad that Dumbo’s mother was on the list. She is awesome. Also, thank you for introducing me to the anime free iwatobi swim club. I’m looking forward to seeing season 3 when it comes out later this year.
Kushina Uzumaki. She may have only gotten to be a mother for a short time, but she showed how much love she had for her child and how strong her will to protect him was, sacrificing everything to keep Naruto safe. On top of that, she made a sacrifice that caused her unimaginable pain, yet did so because she knew it would help her child in the future. Kushina kicks ass as a mother and the only thing that sucks, is she never got to spend more than an hour with her child.
So many great mother's and mother figure's I've always been a fan of Bulma, she know's exactly what to expect from the saiyan's being around Goku all her life, and her brilliance with gadgets and manipulation has aided greatly. Honestly there was no better match for Vegeta and the fact that she can scare the strongest beings in the universe with nary an effort say's a lot. I never hated Chi-Chi mind you as others have, and I feel Teamfourstar's rendition of Chi-Chi explains her character the best, but Bulma both in the original and in the abridged is a stand out mom for me. Now for best dad's...*cough* Piccolo *cough*
While watching this list i could only think of one of my favorite animated mom, Carol Kincaid from OK KO Lets be Heroes! She's very kind, caring and supportive of her son and his interests and only wants to best for him, even if it may seem dangerous or a mistake of KO to do she trusts his judgement because she knows her son is smart enough to make his own choices! Carol and KO's relationship is just one of my favorite things about the show because it just feels sweet and genuine how much they love each other :')
Honestly while I think the moment where Helen stands up for Daria to Ms. Li is awesome, I love the moment during the "love triangle" story arc where, while busy with work, she still willingly drops everything to talk to Daria upon seeing that she's upset.
Not technically animation but I’d still have to say Preston from the Deadpool comics because A) she can put up with Deadpool and anyone who can do that deserves an award B)she raises deadpool’s Daughter Ellie, who may or may not be a mutant(I’m not 100mpercent on that) C)she juggles her family and working as a shield agent so well And D) she has a synthetic body.
Thanks to Pooh's Heffalump Movie I would totally put Kanga as a top animated Mother. She lets Roo go on some of the greatest adventures and helps him to see that it is best to enjoy the time given to you while you are young.
"And baby mine speaks for itself; An emotional trainwreck of sadness and happiness". No kidding, Dumbo was legitimately the first movie I ever cried at, at TWO YEARS OLD. It's my favourite scene in the movie.
OMG,Thank u so~ much!! ^__^ when the Incredibles 2 trailer come out and saw Bob was staying at home and Helen was going out doing the job of being a superhero [some] people were outraged that it's either gonna be Mr. Mom [Focusing on Bob less with Helen] or being a Empower Feminist movie [Focusing on Helen less with Bob] like "Why?,Helen is going out being a Hero? that what Bob always want to do!!","Why? are they focusing on her and not Bob!?" X'''[ Other people and I are over here like: 6:02 - 6:41
The Incredibles are one of the best animated families ever. You can really see them struggling through their own problems, and the kids problems, and still take on those problems with the best they know, and thus evolve as parents, supers, and familiy. Specially loved to see Bob Parr going from absent and never wanting to wait to be super N.1 again to family dad capable of working his ass off to make the kids grow nice, healthy and successful. And trusting their kids any time when facing danger.
8:07 As soon as I saw that Helen was on this list, I was hoping that you’d mention this specific episode. It’s easily one of my favorite scenes in the entire show!
Great list, it's refreshing to see a list where it's about mothers that isn't just "Look at how much they loved their kid(s) they died for them!!!", like....it's not that hard to write a supportive female character that isn't a love interest or dead in the first act... Anyway! My personal picks have to go to Lydia Pearson (Pepper Ann) and Lois Foutley (As Told By Ginger)! Two of the most loving, supportive, smart, witty, understanding, hard working mothers I've seen in television! What I really appreciate about them is you can tell they became strong through hardship (raising their kids as single working mothers), not straight up suffering. Too often writers think the only way to create strong female (and sometimes male) characters is through their suffering (or death). I appreciate a good tragic backstory or underdog character every now and then, don't get me wrong, but it's so nice to see strength simply because of love and dedication vs strength despite trauma and tragedy, you know what I mean?
Okay so I really think I great one is Aunt Cass from ‘Big Hero 6’ even though she isn’t actually their mom but she definitely shows it in the beginning of the movie when They got arrested but giving them a lecture but still caring that they were fine but I dunno that’s just my opinion
Annie Hughes from Iron Giant, she is a single parent working at a dinner and managing to do well by herself and Hogarth even after losing her husband, she is supportive, firm but fair and when there is a alien war machine on a rampage she (and surrogate father dean) focus only on getting him medical attention in a warzone.
I actually really like Merida's mom in Brave, she reminds me a lot of my grandmother and I love her commanding presence having almost no effect on her equally stubborn daughter.
The Amazing World of Gumball, Nicole is best mom. She has her kid's back, will literally fight and kill someone for them, and will risk her job for them. Not only is she there for them, she can be a good parent and ground her kid without it feeling like it's for nothing.
Once again a great video, Celly. I know I've said it before, but you're one of my favourite moviecritics, and this is one of many reasons: You see also the characters that don't necessarily carry the main arc. And the moms of animation, while usually being awesome and badass, never get the credit they deserve. Thanks for making this. Also, I agree with you on most of these choices. Although Linda Belcher would probably be my no 1, just because I think she's ultimate mom material. Supportive and loving till the very end, no matter how weird her kids shenanigans get.
This was really awesome CellSpex, nice pick for #1 too. I'm guessing this was meant for last week but we all know editing can be a !@#$/. Thoughts on doing one for father's day?
Great list! Glad you at least shown a clip of Maria from El Tigre, she was a favourite of mine back when I was 12 and watched that series all the time.
Kyoko Honda from Fruits Basket. Yes she dies in the series, but when we see flashbacks of her with Tohru, it’s clear how much of a role model she was and how dedicated she was as a mother! An ex-delinquent who had a traumatic break after the death of her husband manages to pull herself together to care for her daughter and her daughters friends!! She wasn’t perfect at points, but she did her darnest to be a great mom to Tohru! Literally, her last thoughts before dying was “what about Tohru? Please. Someone, take care of her!”
Johana from Hilda is one of the best moms (or mums in Uk) in animation because she is supportive of her daughter's life, but still worries about her at times
I agree with all of these and would like to add a few more: Sabine Cheng from Miraculous, Kyoko from Fruits Basket, Mrs. Higurashi from Inuyasha, Touko from Natsume Yuujinchou, Leafie from Leafie: A Hen in the Wild (slightly breaking the rules here, but it's worth it), Plio from Dinosaur, and Franny from Meet the Robinsons. As you say, the list could go on for miles, but these are some that were neither listed nor shown in your lovely video.
My favourite part of the incredibles was always the conversation Helen has with her kids in the cave because it felt so honest and natural and really reminded me of how my mum would talk to me.
Doodlecorn So true!
Not really related, but Edna Mode is hilarious!

Will you do a top 10 animated dads that aren't stupid around father's day?
yes
As long as we're just looking at the anime only, then Daikichi from Usagi Drop is a great pick
Greg Universe is one of the best picks.

Poor Moon. Her character didn't deserve to be destroyed like that. I mean neither did Marco's and Star's but with Moon they REALLY went for it.
My pick for the list, not exactly #1 or anything, would likely be abuelita Imelda from Coco. Before she died, she faced immense heartbreak but was able to rise above it for the sake of her family. And, even after she died, she did everything she could to keep Miguel safe, even if their own views about music first got in the way.
she dead
Imelda is awesome. I actually expected to hate her going into the movie, but she quickly became one of my favorite characters, next to Héctor and Miguel.
Abuelita is the Spanish word for grandmother. Every character, including Miguel, refers to her by "Mama".
It's kind of sad that a lot of people won't see beyond "She banned music! HURR DURR".
She had a perfectly solid reason to do so.
thats strange, most of the movies ive seen have the 'family is all that matters' moral (a moral im not a fan of btw, my mother isnt abusive but her family was to her [im talking the only reason for her birth being it was in fashion to have a boy and girl child leading to regular beatings and rape by her 12 year old brother when she was 7] and believing she still has to love them no matter what fucks. her. up) so yeah, i really hate that moral as i see it just spits in the face of people who have been hurt irreparably because of the people that were supposed to 'love' them
@@mollymoonfan5939 When I say I love the family value moral, I don't mean just the blood-related one; I also mean the bond of people who consider each other family, blood or not (for example, Tarzan and Meet the Robinsons)
True! Even her flaws make her all the more real. She may be hard-nosed when it comes to banning music, but it's borne out of worry of ever falling for the same pitfall her husband did, letting passion come before family.
ReasyRandom they blamed the verb not the noun
Just off the top of my head, some great "Animated Mothers" :
Kyoko Honda (Fruits Basket)
Perdita (101 Dalmatians)
Sarabi (The Lion King)
Ms. Davis (Toy Story)
Queen Elinor (Brave)
Chicha (Emperor's New Groove)
Duchess (The Aristocats)
Mrs. Potts (Beauty and the Beast)
Eudora (The Princess and the Frog)
Kanga (Winnie the Pooh)
Sarabi!! I love her, she was kind and calm with Simba and was fantastic. Sad we didn’t see much of her.
I agree with every single one of these
I would also put Sofia's mother from Sofia the First considering she's very sweet and compassionate
100% agree except for maybe Eudora because despite being very supportive she does push the 'settle down and start a family' message onto her 19 year old daughter a bit. Honestly the problem is less her and more the themes Princess and the Frog wanted to push and she is mostly just a mouthpiece for them.
Valka from httyd :3
You know who's the best mom?
MY MOM!😎🙋
ha, it works on 2 levels
Others (but not everyone) can say that and it can make sense about 83% of the time.
Mine's not... Though my grandmother on the other hand is an excellent mother and good friend.
I read this in the voice of Muscle Man
I will never get tired of that
Damn right Tarzan is underrated. It's a phenomenal and gorgeous film where literally the only thing holding it back is an obvious (but still a threatening presence) villain and a stupidly pointless yet catchy skat song in the middle. Other than that, Tarzan is REALLY FRIGGIN AMAZING.
I definitely also say the Crystal Gems, they aren't technically Steven's biological moms but they raised him and ...let's face it they are totally his moms (well maybe Amethyst is more of a crazy sister but still)
Garnet
yeah, especially now, that episode where she finally gets that steven has grown is just.... FEELS!
Garnet primarily.
I never really got the relationships of Steven Universe. They just don't make sense to me.
I think amethyst, Peridot, and Lapis are his sisters
Id have to say garnet from steven universe. While not technically steven's mom she has this motherly feel that makes her seem like such. She cares for steven in a way that shows her live for him she guides him throughout his life and even has struggles with him. Garnet has a motherly feel that should be praised. Just my 2 cents😀
Mom squared.
_OG_ exactlu
I'd also include Pearl, even if she's not pearlfect.
agreed, she really puts a diamonds' worth of effort into things, eh?
ZGuy0fSci lol yeah
Mr.Krabs is a single mother
Wait, what?
Dad
Did- did I see a triple woosh
Ms. Tonitini is seriously underrated as a character. She dishes out some seriously solid advice sometimes. Like that girls won't automatically like you if you do "be yourself", but it's important to be yourself for your own sake. Or that being supportive of your friends doesn't mean enabling their bad behavior.
Weekenders as a whole is underrated as heck. I loved watching it as a child, it's sadly mostly forgotten.
It was your original review of Wolf Children that encouraged me to buy it in the first place. Now it is my favourite animated film almost without competition. I keep trying to watch it with my mother on mothers day. Unfortunately she can't stand Anime... it's fine we just watched Star Wars instead.
I actually watched it with my mom and she really enjoyed.
is her only experience with anime the bad stereotypes?
I assume you mean the _Real_ SW movies eh, and not the bad/sj Disneynverse AU ones eh? :3
(at least jarjar was authentic if a lunatic)
Like them or not, those are real SW movies. End of story.
Thomas Mason seriously, she should watch My Neighbor Totoro or Kiki's Delivery Service. Studio Ghibli has the best anime movies ever made.
what a pure video. i haven't even watched it yet.
watched it. still pure
I called my mom after this video.
I was like sigh one of those COMMENTS AGAIN..... oh never mind I spoke far to soon this is hilarious!
@@sailor3047 where is the yokai on your profile picture
I enjoy Nicole Watterson because she steps beyond the bounds of the nagging workaholic mum stereotype.
Marge Simpson is a free spirit that finds joy in her family and, however infrequently, outside of it.
Yes. They are so much more than that.
I would say Midoriya's mom from My Hero Academia!
Inko you mean
You know, I'm starting to think midoriya was born with a quirk he got from his mom,
Come on, the waterfalls that are their eyes is natural, come on, I mean realy, its a quirk, you know it is
When her husband will appear in series though? He was only mentioned as Fire Breathe quirk user and absence in Midoriya's Life.
Short to cut; Inko DOES deserve to be mentioned.
@@Tony_Kim_ The creator said he'll be in the manga soon, and that he has been around. Last time he was around was before Deku applied to UA. He works overseas and is still married to Inko.
Nicole Watterson. She raised 3 kids and 1 husband
My favorite animated mother is Izuku's mother from My Hero Acadamia due to her supporting Izuku through thick and thin and always being there for him, even if he's in a dire situation.
sl33t paws Except when she isn't.
sl33t paws Inko!!!! She needs more love 😍
She has a serious discussion with All Might in the manga about how concerned she is for his safety and I love Inko’s involvement in his life.
yes!!!
Mufasa is best dad !
Greg from Steven universe is best dad
If she does, I hope Rabbit gets at least an honourable mention for Kessie, even if it is only the one episode. I tear up just remembering it.
Finding Nemo is (quite predictably) the best Dad story I have ever experienced. A verrrrry close second is 'Chachi 420', an extremely altered Indian adaptation of Mrs. Doubtfire. (Pssssst. The Indian version is better. Fight me.)
Garnet
Despite not being Steven’s mum she is just really sweet and protective around him.
Android 18 cares for Maron and to an extent Krillin so much and you can see that with almost any piece of media where she and her daughter interact (including gt).
Yeah in GT she stood againts Super 17 her own twin brother and at that moment he was so powerfull he could have killed her by just flickering his finger.
saviox8197 *twin brothers
Cell you want my heart explode or something....I barely get to the end without tearing up a bit, awesome list, can't argue against those top 2.......difficult to make a list so I just going to drop some of my favorites that didn't die. Martha Kent, Superman TAS (I know is adoptive mother but damn it let me have it), Queen Arianna, Tangled the series, carol OK KO, and that's as far I can think, this is hard, all my favorites are dead T.T
Kusanagikaiser999 I called my mom after this video.
If the Percy Jackson movies were done right, I guarantee you Sally would be number 1.
josiah jenks GOD YES I love her so much she's so brave!
josiah jenks Most definitely! She's a wonderful mother
This is correct.
Sally Jackson, an actual angel
Shotgunned a snake woman in the battle of new york, bravest mom ever!
i think rileys parents from inside out were so good, because they were just so real and what most parents are like
I'm trying to think of some good ones...
sadly, all that comes to mind is Mrs Midoriya from My hero Academia, an adorable, highstrung woman who worries about her son's wellbeing as it becomes increasingly clear how dangerous the hero line of work can be even for a young student, but still offers her full support and love to her son, fueled partially at her shame for failing to support him when he needed it most.
Honestly, her relationship with Jim is one of the best parts of the movie, and a giant improvement of the source material, where she is pretty much a non-character.
that's fair
Moon was such a great character with such an interesting mindset, decisions and every moment between her and Star was gold.
Then Season 4 happened...
I feel like if della duck from ducktales was in the show sooner she would be on this list if your that detacaded to your kids you would do everthing to get off the moon and get back to your kids and you survived on the moon to get back to them you deserve a spot
Queen Moon is a good mom.
Season 4 happens. Tries to restart a race war.
"I'm liking the current dynamic between Moon and Star" Oh, wait for season 4. Destroyed Moons character.
Okay, I definitely enjoyed Jumbo as a mom, and I do admit her capture was expected, but I have one question for Disney...
...WHY DID SHE ONLY GET ONE LINE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE?!
As long as we all agree the ending to star vs wasn't Cannon (cause really what the heck was that!!?) Queen moon is pretty cool
Let's never speak on that. Queen Moon is a good mom so let's screw that finale.
The fact that you used the Beatrix Potter animated movies as a transition was a nice surprise! It’s rare to find someone who has heard of the movies.
Right? I used to watch those when I was really little. So cute.
is that the title that I can look for? my daughter fell in love with that little snippet
Manuela Glavas Yeah. They’re little Peter Rabbit stories.
You can find the full series here on RUclips! It’s a perfect cartoon for a rainy day
thank you both for answering! Peter Rabbit isn't as known where I'm from, so this helps me a lot :)
No dead moms
Though Izumi is 100% a good mom
(Tbf though it all depends on which version you’re watching because Izumi does die in COS, a movie that’s a continuation of FMA 03)
Cellspex: "Queen Moon"
Me: ah....this was before the final season...
Where it was all fucked up
She quickly went from a lot of folks' favorite character to a least favorite.
Season 4 never happened, you heard it here.
"You want me to leave so you can say swear words?"
"That'd be great thanks."
Lmao
Personally, I'd have to say mine is Charolette, from Charolette's Web. The animated movie version specifically. She's not a mother for long, but does display this. Motherly affection for Wilbur and a want to help care for him. Plus, it's a movie I watched with my own mother, so that may be why. I see a lot of her in Charolette, and the nostalgia of "Mother Earth and Father Time" always tugs at my heartstrings a bit more because my mother sung it to me when I was little.
'That don't die' Goodness, hope you aren't too hard-pressed to get this list started.
I love that you included Mrs. Brisby, that movie is a huge nostalgic favorite of mine. It really is one of the greatest films about bravery and I love that the main character was a single mom without any real talents. Not a lot of filmmakers can turn that into an empowering characteristic but this one did.
Start with queen moon was a good idea two years ago, after the fourth season I wouldn't start with her
Steven's mom is in kind of a gray area for the whole alive/dead thing.
I'd say Pearl and Garnet are more mother figures to Steven than Rose is. I see Amethyst as an older sister.
She wasn't even a very good mom. Intentional or not, she made many huge mistakes.
1 second of Dumbo's mom on screen and I start crying...
edit: Tarzan is SO underrated
Thanks for making awareness of excellent role models. Truly, they depict dedication, care and courage in many ways. Wolf Children especially showcases the hardships and highlights of motherhood.
These ladies on this list are indeed the greatest mothers of all time because mothers should be very strong and optimistic.
Tarzans mom is such a milh (mom id like to hug)
You should do a top 10 siblings list , and you have to agree Nani and Lilo would have to be somewhere on there
Great list. I’m glad that Dumbo’s mother was on the list. She is awesome. Also, thank you for introducing me to the anime free iwatobi swim club. I’m looking forward to seeing season 3 when it comes out later this year.
THERE'S GONNA BE A SEASON 3?!
Yeah. I was on Wikipedia and it said that a season 3 was being made. I think it comes out June or July.
+Cellspex If you thought THAT was mind-blowing, I just looked up The Venture Brothers, and apparently it's now got a SIXTH season!
Aww, I hoped Marianne Thornberry had made the list. Or Lydia from Pepper Ann.
Good choices👍
Honestly while I think the moment where Helen stands up for Daria to Ms. Li is awesome, I love the moment during the "love triangle" story arc where, while busy with work, she still willingly drops everything to talk to Daria upon seeing that she's upset.
Carol from Ok KO is an awesome mom
Not technically animation but I’d still have to say Preston from the Deadpool comics because
A) she can put up with Deadpool and anyone who can do that deserves an award
B)she raises deadpool’s Daughter Ellie, who may or may not be a mutant(I’m not 100mpercent on that)
C)she juggles her family and working as a shield agent so well
And D) she has a synthetic body.
Mom [Focusing on Bob less with Helen] or being a Empower Feminist movie [Focusing on Helen less with Bob] like "Why?,Helen is going out being a Hero? that what Bob always want to do!!","Why? are they focusing on her and not Bob!?" X'''[
Other people and I are over here like: 6:02 - 6:41
The Incredibles are one of the best animated families ever.
*sees Queen Moon on the list* OH IF SHE ONLY KNEW
I think she found out ages ago
8:07 As soon as I saw that Helen was on this list, I was hoping that you’d mention this specific episode. It’s easily one of my favorite scenes in the entire show!
Wolf Children still my favorite movie
Steve Bob Tim great movie. There is also A Silent Voice.
second favourite
Duchess from Aristocats.....she protected her kittens
Tutune Pan I mean yeah but I don’t think she’s very interesting as a character which is probably why she isn’t on the list.
You're title makes me cried so bad...... *sobs*
Oddly, i've never heard of Wolf Children. I'll be sure to watch it, it looks super cool!
You should, its a fantastic and emotionally moving movie!
Watch it when you get the chance. It's one of the most moving films ever made.
I'm so glad you picked Hana for number 1.
Okay so I really think I great one is Aunt Cass from ‘Big Hero 6’ even though she isn’t actually their mom but she definitely shows it in the beginning of the movie when They got arrested but giving them a lecture but still caring that they were fine but I dunno that’s just my opinion
I know this comment is 2 years old, but I completely agree, ecseplly if you watch the series
When I saw Treasure Planet I fangirled so hard
Linda is #1 TV Mom in my book.
Sidenote: I love this channel. Keep up the good work. 👍
10: Queen Moon
Me: *oh boy that's gonna change*
I actually really like Merida's mom in Brave, she reminds me a lot of my grandmother and I love her commanding presence having almost no effect on her equally stubborn daughter.
So much respect for putting Tino's mom on the list. :-)
Hello there.
The Amazing World of Gumball, Nicole is best mom. She has her kid's back, will literally fight and kill someone for them, and will risk her job for them. Not only is she there for them, she can be a good parent and ground her kid without it feeling like it's for nothing.
Celly should make more top 10 lists.
How could you forget...
*MRS NESBIT*
Kyoko Honda from Fruits Basket. Yes she dies in the series, but when we see flashbacks of her with Tohru, it’s clear how much of a role model she was and how dedicated she was as a mother!
An ex-delinquent who had a traumatic break after the death of her husband manages to pull herself together to care for her daughter and her daughters friends!! She wasn’t perfect at points, but she did her darnest to be a great mom to Tohru! Literally, her last thoughts before dying was “what about Tohru? Please. Someone, take care of her!”
Happy Mother’s Day
Johana from Hilda is one of the best moms (or mums in Uk) in animation because she is supportive of her daughter's life, but still worries about her at times
I love ur vids
I agree with all of these and would like to add a few more: Sabine Cheng from Miraculous, Kyoko from Fruits Basket, Mrs. Higurashi from Inuyasha, Touko from Natsume Yuujinchou, Leafie from Leafie: A Hen in the Wild (slightly breaking the rules here, but it's worth it), Plio from Dinosaur, and Franny from Meet the Robinsons. As you say, the list could go on for miles, but these are some that were neither listed nor shown in your lovely video.
