Lottie still provides the TV Tropes page image for "Spoiled Sweet" (the rich, naive girl who grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth but defies the stereotype by actually being a really nice, decent, kind person) because there are few, if any, better examples.
SingYour HeartOut Ironic considering that, for more than half of the movie, that song was the exact opposite of what she wanted. Also, I love your screen name.
Wow. I forgot how truly amazing 2009 was for animation. There wasn’t a single bad film in that year. Even Planet 51 isn’t terrible. It’s mediocre but not truly awful. But from Up to Fantastic Mr. Fox to Coraline, 2009 was stellar.
Unusual I agree. Coraline scared the living crud out of me when I was younger (and continued to scare me for eight years), but its still one of my favorite movies. Also, I didn't think Planet 51 was half bad. At least, I can think of worse films.
“Every five year old I showed Ponyo to loved the movie except the one that would run out of the room every time Ponyo’s dad showed up” Totally me I hated the movie because of her dad 😭
B&HGirls I had nightmares for years too when I watched this as a little kid! It was my #1 fear that someone would come out of my closet and sew buttons into my eyes for so long! Now I love all things horror and Coraline is one of my favorite movies!
I wonder how Coraline have people nightmares, I was 4 when I watched Coraline and I loved it and I didn’t have any nightmares, I’m not bragging I just don’t get how or why Coraline gave people nightmares
Yeah he's like the only villain I can think of off the top of my head that had a death scene and holy fuck "Friends on the other side" was amazing. Also from a Wiccan, the magik was scary accurate.
Dr. Facilier may not be a very complex villain like Frollo from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame or Long John Silver from Treasure Planet, but he has such a strong sense of class, sophistication, and style to his villainy much like a Maleficent or Professor Ratigan. I definitely think he ranks within the Top 10 greatest Disney villains of all time. Hell, maybe even Top 5.
I wish so badly that more people knew about Secret of Kells and how gorgeous that film is, not to mention the fact that this was Tomm Moore's FIRST FEATURE FILM! Like, how do you just make something so smart and beautiful the first time!?
You know 2009 was a great year for animated films when the Academy Awards once decided to host an interview with all of the animated contenders nominated for Best Animated Feature: Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Princess and the Frog, Secret of Kells, and Up!
@@gaytrise Was Cloudy snubbed at the oscars (It didn't get nominated, but I think it was snubbed). But with or without an oscar, it's still a great movie.
Wow, I can't believe how many astounding movies came out in 2009 that I already love so much... Speaking of which, there is this movie, "Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva," that is based off of the puzzle game series, "Professor Layton." I believe it came out in 2009 (at least here in the west, but maybe not in Japan) and it's a very good movie that I think you should watch if you haven't yet. Anyway, keep up the constantly amazing work Cell! And thank you for listening, if you did.
The same studio made Animal Crossing 3 years earlier, I recall that being good too, I don't know why Layton got localized but Animal Crossing still has to get a localization 12 years later
Coraline was an amazing choice for Number 2! UP is good too, but I personally liked Coraline more because I'm too obsessed with horror and stop motion. But, seriously though. Coraline is amazing.
We agree with everything you daid, most notably that as suckers for horror and stop-motion, Coraline is one of the greatest animated films, even for the late 2000s.
Yeah, I know what you mean. ‘Cause they fill the open air and leave teardrops everywhere. I know you’d think it’d be rude, but I would just stand and stare...
Much like Cell, I was super hyped up for this movie from the moment I saw the teaser and I still enjoy the movie to this day, even knowing that it's far from perfect. This is one of those movies that I strongly recommend to people who view animation as "kid's stuff". I'm even reminded of a quote from one of the trailers saying something along the lines of "This isn't your little brother's cartoon".
My top favorite animated movies *at least* have to be Up, Secret of Kells (Did i say that right?), and Goodness me The Lego Batman movie. Up was way to sad for me to handle as a kid and now years later i die inside because of how sad that intro is. Secret of Kells wins my all time favorite movie animation style and will stay there until someone does the same thing but better. and The Lego Batman movie... *WHO ALWAYS PAYS THEIR TAXES "NOT BATMAN!"*
Ninja, the movie didn’t flop exactly but it didn’t do well in the box office. But Tiana has been in the Disney Princess line since her movie came out so of course she would be in WreckaIt Ralph 2.
The movie has a lot of good in it, though I agree with Cells that the middle is kinda dull and that Mama Odie pushes the romance part a little too hard.
Yeah. I remember rewatching it a few months ago and I also realized how cute Navine and Tiana really are and how much the two are willing to sacrifice for each other in the end. They're definitely one of the cutest ships there.
oh astroboy you may still be gone from relevency but I still hold you a place in my heart as an action figure with no batteries and a missing hand cannon
@@sammasalih5811 I find it slightly better than Up and find it the best animated movie of 2009 and 2nd best animated film of the 2000s ( well, time to run ) only coming behind Monster's inc and I like it a bit better than Wall-e and Ratatouille.
I wholeheartedly agree with you that 2009 was great for animated films (and I’d also argue films in general). Also I loved the song choice of using Fireflies at the end, I believe that song perfectly captures the 2009 aesthetic!
Yeah, I always forget how much 2009 kicked ass with animated films. Up, Princess and the Frog, Mr. Fox, and 9 are films I hold in very high regards and with the exception of Planet 51, there's nothing super bad here. Btw, are you planning to do this with the other yearly videos you took down because I'd love to see those remade?
I mean, they didn't really have much of a choice there, considering that "the villain of the movie is... the villain of the original story" would be a less than stellar twist even by Disney standards, but still.
Good thing we all forgot about Planet 51, a stereotypical film that is like any other animated feature and has cringeworthy jokes such as a blatant incest joke (and lest we forget that THEY GAVE THE ROCK (for variety, I am not bringing up the titular protagonist from Frigid Fire's Rusty) THAT REFERENCE TO SAY FOR A MOVIE!!!) and condescending toilet humour.
YES! I watched the Secret of Kelly’s when I was a kid and remember being super intrigued by it. I’ve been trying to track the title and the plot for almost a year now.
What I Think Planet 51: Meh it was okay. Could have been a lot better for sure. It also could have been way worse! Astro Boy: I also found this movie to be okay. I just really, really hated it when Astro's dad decided he wanted to dismantle him as though he were nothing... Ice Age Dawn of Dinos: It really is the best sequel of this franchise. I still like the first one better though! A Christmas Carol: I actually really enjoyed this one! Liked it better than Polar Express. Monsters vs Aliens: This one was a lot of fun! The show not so much... Definitely stick with the movie because its animated series was dull as dirt. Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs: Another fun one! No idea why it along with its equally fun sequel get so much hate! Batman and Superman Public Enemies: I honestly never saw this one. Ponyo: Definitely adorable! The Princess and the Frog: One of my favorites from Disney! It truly saddens me that it did not do so well and I really hate that it is being blamed for the fall of 2D animation... 9: I honestly fell asleep watching this one and I tried seeing this one a second time only to fall asleep yet again. Guess I found it that boring. Sorry 9 fans. Redline: Never seen it! I haven't seen it Fantastic Mr. Fox: I saw this one, but it's been so long that I don't remember much. Perhaps I shall see it again. Sam and Max: Never seen it! Summer Wars: Never saw this one either. Secret of Kells: This movie truly is a work of art. It is that beautiful! Like a moving painting. I just wished that that audio was louder because I always have trouble hearing what the characters are saying whenever I watch and I don't know why! Coraline: Holy cow this movie was awesome! I loved it as much as Nightmare Before Christmas! It scared my poor little cousin half to death though! Up: This movie was the ultimate tear jerker! That said I liked it just not as much as other Pixar movies. Heck I liked Princess and the Frog better tbh.
It make the astro boy movie more western, imagi change his name from tobio to Toby since they not sound the same, idk the voice acting was not bad also adding a new chareter kora as a sort of love interest. Who voiced her was also anna from frozen, don't know what happend to Freddie highmore. Yea I have the DVD and it is still my favourite movie that I watched so many times that the disk is possibly scratched. Also Toby is the only one with the big eyes and origanl look, sticks out amongst the other chareters. He instead of wearing Speedo type pants he has boxers or shorts.
The hated toward the Cloudy films would come from Animat, who is also an Animation Critic, as he points out how unwatchable the character animation can be with the simplistically unappealing designs along with their over the top animation to try to entertain the audience, only to irritate him so much, he had to take off his glasses in order to continue with the film. Animat is an unlikely critic who has an interesting perspective on animated films. He especially compares the sequel to Norm of the North also with lowbrow humor and tiresome environmental messages.
Kosta Jovanovic honestly, TPatF is my second favorite Disney movie (if you don’t found Pixar). it’s just super beautiful, i love the villain, and i didn’t find any characters “annoying.”
Also 2019: watered down live action Disney remakes and forced "diversity" ( don't get me wrong, actual diversity is great, but forced in a movie is just annoying)
@@thegay Expression lacking lions in Lion King, Dumbo just had to have kiddo friends (the whole point of the classic was his only friend was Timothy the mouse) , Jock just had to be female (just to have more females in the adaptation), they are going to completely butcher Mulan, and even if I support hiring people despite of skin colour, who thought that a black Norge and Elsa in pants in 1850 was a good idea (I am talking about the Broadway adaptation of Frozen).
2009 was a great year for animated films, but it was a horrendous year for Cartoon Network. Fortunately Adventure Time was right around the corner to save the day.
Dude I still remember the initial advertising for it, that kid in the Finn outfit running around frantically asking random pedestrians what time it was. Also that it was advertised alongside Generator Rex. That show was great.

I stumbled upon Secret of Kells when I was about 8-9 and it still holds a special place in my heart. Hell, my exploration into mythologies besides Greek was spurred on by this movie, and it encouraged me to look at new art styles because of how beautiful the film was. 9 was a movie my Sister(20 years older than me) got for my niece(7 months older) right when It came out, and I was the only one to make It through the movie fully. I adore the work, the horror, the concept in general. And finally, Ponyo was a movie that got me through rough times. I didn’t discover it until around 2013-2014, both when my grandmother passed and when my dad was in the hospital. It was uplifting, cute, had a great artstyle, and overall was a great distraction, though I do have to agree, the romance was kinda eeehhhh.
Thank you for reminding me how awesome 2009 was for film My top 5 is as follows 5. 9 - I love this movie simply from its premise, the post apocalyptic setting, the horror of the robot monsters, as well as the inner conflicts between the group as their ideologies clash. 4. Fantastic Mr. Fox - The film is really witty and funny, from the dialogue to the characters, the stop motion is incredibly enjoyable and I love how they expanded on the story to be more relatable. Also the “cuss” usage is still my favorite stand in for swearing. 3. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs - This film is a guilty pleasure, but I love it. It still boggles the mind how they turned a simple picture book into a lengthy plot with characters and conflicts. Just how much they can do with food is impressive enough, but there’s also really funny character moments, humorous dialogue and some sweet scenes too. I also love the energy it has the the exaggerated facial expressions and movements. It definitely leaves a good taste in my mouth (and a sad reminder how much Sony Animation has soured) 2. Up - This is still my favorite Pixar film. It never fails to make me cry, and the message it tells is timeless. I love how easily Pixar was able to mix fantastical elements with real world emotions about loss and grief, and how life itself is an adventure. 1. Coraline - I fell in love with this movie when I saw it in theaters. So much imagination and creativity wrapped in dark fantasy, adventure layered over horror. The stop motion is beautiful, fluid and lends to the fantasy of the other world with its colors and vibrancy, only for it to fall away once it starts becoming more unraveled. Coraline remains one of my favorite animated films of all time.
Topaz_no_life You would see a Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs film over the rest of the options on this list?! I'll tell AniMat about this when I get the chance! Okay, maybe Cloudy 1 doesn't warrant the Seal of Garbage, but it could've been replaces by Up.
It's nice that in 2009, this was around the time I started visiting theatres frequently. (I was 5-6 years old.) There was a bit of schlock I watched like Alvin And The Chipmunks 2, Monsters Vs Aliens and Hannah Montana The Movie, but other than that, even when I was 6 years old, I declared it my favourite year. (Mostly because I was in Prep.) It's also nice, considering how AWFUL 2009 was for television animation.
Dave Kendall guess that makes us the same age. Boy was it a good time period the 2000s. I remembered Flushed Away, Tarzan, Chicken Run and the rebirth of Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
@@michaelregis1015 I was born in 2003, and I didn't start going to the cinema more regularly until 2007, and maybe around 2008 to 2009, so I don't really remember growing up with those movies, at least not in cinemas. I remember the first movie I ever watched in cinemas was Enchanted.
The way I personally interpret Princess ans the Frog is, don''t solely depend on wishing on stars, but also don't lose yourself while seeking out your destiny
About 7 years ago, I was subscribing to my first youtube channels. I was a young fandom kid, big into mlp and other animated shows, and i can’t be certain but i think cellspex was one of the first channels I ever subscribed to. To this day it’s the one that stuck out of all of the others. About a week ago I was thinking about animated movies i hadn’t watched yet, and my mind wandered back to your original 2009 ranking list, a video I hadn’t thought about in years. I remembered you called it a golden year for animation, and I took two of your recommendations that weekend. I’m currently forcing everyone I know to watch 9 and Fantastic Mr Fox. In a media landscape where reviews of films are now as likely to be childhood nostalgia as films themselves, nothing means more than a video that can make me take a decade-old recommendation. I’m glad you made this video again, and i’m glad you still do these.
I remember 2009 and thinking "Hey, maybe there is hope for 2D actually still being a thing and not everyone is going to do only 3D from now on". ...I'm still sad I was wrong.
Well, the only 2D movie that went in theaters this year was Teen Titans Go to the Movies, but there aren't a whole lot of 2D animated movies in theaters anymore...
Dang, you're absolutely right! 2009 was a stellar year for animation. Summer Wars and Up are enough to say it was a great year, but then you add on Coraline, The Princess and the Frog, and The Book of Kells! So good! Another wonderful list!
Secret of the Kells is by far my favorite animated film. Coraline, however.... my favorite film. My favorite movie. Beautiful stop motion. Gorgeous. The story is amazing, but the visuals.... just perfect
Wow.... Mary and Max... This movie kinda traumatized me as a teen... They showed it at my school(we would choose what activities we would do on the last week of the year and I was in the group that chose to watch a movie). And... My 14 year old self wasn't ready for this movie... I thought we would watch a happy fun stop animation movie... But it made me feel awfully depressed and bad by the end of it instead, and I couldn't even sleep that night because of it...it was pretty dark... It's not thaaaat dark, but still, it kinda was for 14 year old me. I wish I had chose to be in the group that would learn make housemade hand sanitizer that day ='D And even remembering this movie makes me feel bad... But the fault was not on the movie, it was me who was a pretty sensible child and watched it at the wrong time, maybe because a thing or other kinda hit back at home. If I had watched it a couple years later when I was mature enough, it probably would be one of my favorites of the year, since I like depressing stories and such.
I was shown 9 when I was five years old. I don’t know why my babysitter would have done that, but needless to say I had some nightmares for a few days.
2009 was wonderful and 9 is probably the biggest standout for me besides mister Fox,growing up with a DVD of the secret of nimth used to creepy in animation,9 was so good that my dad has groaned at me for any mention of the film cause I watched it so much. Mr.Fox is probably the first Wes Anderson film I've seen and fell in love with his style. I cant wait for 2010
This is my favorite countdown... it's so sweet and heartwarming towards the end and the Up soundtrack really did it. Ugh I miss when animation wasn't all CGI
What happened!! 2017 and this year is turning out so bland. All decently rendered butt jokes in 90 minutes. What happened to the artistry and passion. Just as mr. Potato head had said it... "Money Money Money!!!
But yes, 2018 and 2019 are the years of sequels lol, incredibles, wreck it Ralph, toy story, how to train your dragon, hotel Transylvania, angry bird movie, frozen, the Lego movie, the secret life of pets......
When is the year we get ood animated movies that outnumber the bad Cause there is just so much bad. I remember 2009 and I went on a animated movie watchinh spree and it was awesome. But now it's just a bunch of kid's movies.
Out of the 6 animated movies i’be seen from 2009 this is my ranking: 6.Monsters vs Aliens 5.A Christmas Carol 4.Cloudy with a Chance of meatballs 3. Princess and the frog 2. Coraline 1.UP
And this videos also help me realise how much I love animations... I recently become a film buff, and I would watch diffrient kind of classic, new live action movies... but watching this make me realise how much I LOVE ANIMATIONNNNSSSSSS!!
They really jumped the shark after that one. I was already hesitant to watch "Continental Drift", because of the Time Skip (that barely affected anyone besides Peaches, for some reason).
ReasyRandom I agree. Plus I found the pirate story line a little too bizarre to even suspend disbelief for this franchise. But I did liked how Diego earned himself a love interest from there.
They Jumped the Shark twice when they introduced aliens in the fourth sequel. Fricken ALIENS, in the ICE AGE. Pirates are at least somewhat believable, and to be honest, the fact that they made their ship from icebergs was actually kinda clever. There is no excuse for aliens, though.
Hm... the existence of Aliens destroy a Franchise... where do I know this? (cough cough Indiana Jones) But Realtalk, I think that you can watch the first four when you have nothing to do or you're a babysitter and the little ones want to watch it, but the last one is horrible.
Do you guys realize that the spaceship that you guys complain so much appeared in the first Ice Age movie right? everyone says that the ice age 5 jumped in the shark by having an spaceship, but it was in the first movie that everybody loves so much that the spaceship appeared. The ship came back in the fifth movie as a reference for the first movie... iceage.wikia.com/wiki/Frozen_UFO
Honorable mention from animation of 2009 goes out to the Belgian film ‘A Town Called Panic’. It’s superlative award is being the definition of quirky, especially in its unique use of stop-motion animation.
Thank you SO much for mentioning a town called panic. Me and my brother always watch episodes of it when i was little. We always pretend to be one of the characters 😁😁😁
As much as 2009 is one of the best years for animated films, in terms of animation overall, I think I'd have to give the edge to 2010. 2009 in terms of TV animation was utterly abysmal apart from one or 2 exceptions at least in terms of new shows. 2010 on the other hand, while not quite at the standard of 2009 in terms of animated films, surpasses 2009 overall in terms of animation when factoring in the animated series of that year.
im genuinely sad that more people dont know about The Secret of Kells i watched that with my parents for movie night one time, and god DAMN its BEAUTIFUL its got a good plot, animation that honestly made me speechless, and a cat A CAT GOD DAMN IT
It kills me that large-scale traditional animation is falling by the wayside since 3D animation is less time-consuming and expensive. I don't hate 3D animation necessarily, but 2D is so beautiful and fascinating and timeless imo.
2009 a amazing year for animated movies! I pretty much almost watch all of them and just brings back a happy time for me. For animated TV shows on the other hand...not so much unfortunately. Besides that it was a good year for video games and RUclips just being a happy time back then besides copyright being much worst but hey it was also a simple time too.
And to add to it, it's also when animation was experimental and a true art, nowadays some studios are putting out animation just for a cash grab and kids flick. *cough, cough* Illuminations, Blue Sky, Dreamworks, Sony... On the other side Disney, Pixar, Laika, Ghibli still stand strong! Kubo is cool but Laika's best is still their first movie.
While I agree that Coraline is the best, their first project was actually Corpse Bride. But they more helped creating it, rather than creating themselves.
What really? Woah I did not know that! I love that movie... but for some reason, Laika isn't known for creating corpse bride... Maybe that's just me not knowing.
2008 was also pretty bad apart from WALL-E and Kung Fu Panda, so I think you may be underestimating how much of a blip 2009 was and how many studios back then still only pandered to children and clueless parents. 2009 was just an excellent year. Every few years we get a year where the animation stars align and studios put out their best work all at once. I think 2014 and 2016 were the last years like that.
Secret of Kells will forever be my favorite movie and I live by that. Ive been watching it since it came out and I was like 4 when it came out. I love it so much I cant even describe it
I do agree that Monsters vs Aliens is a fairly fun movie overall. I think you were right to rank it so high. Also I haven't seen 9 so yas, Coraline still mi favourite
Fun Fact: Summer Wars is sort of a redo "Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!" OVA as it was done by the same dude. The main virus is going to destroy world idea is kept in both versions, but the family dynamic was added to the new movie. Many of the things that happen in OVA have a lasting impact in Digimon Adventure 02 which are... The idea of DNA digivolution with Omnimon, which wasn't mentioned until later, and the 3 main new members actually watched the battle happen. Other characters that watched it happen became one-shot characters in the Christmas episodes where the digidestined traveled around the world to stop the bad guys (not feeling like going in to detail.) And in the recent anime reboot, the 2nd episode is basically the OVA. So that's two times the plot was reused.
I had a big comment written but I lost it. So I'll do it again, but as i ranked them in my blog post. Planet 51: Meh Battle for Terra: you forgot this one. It's ambitious but Average Monsters Vs Aliens: Felt too restrained but sitll fun Ice Age 3: I think 2 is the best of the sequels but this was still fun enough for me./ Astro Boy: Yep, i quite like this one. Had some nice moments and was a solid watch. A Christmas Carol: Creepy motion capture aside, a solid take on the story. Ponyo: Very cute with quirky humor that i dug. 9: Weak charecters but solid world. Secret of Kells: I wish i LOVED it like i wanted to it, as the lead was a bit weak and i wish the ending took up more of it. Still, quite good. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: Very funny and nice. Fantastic Mr Fox: Really charming and well crafted. Princess and the Frog: Not top 5 Disney but top 10 at least. Up: Slightly agree with some of the tone issues, but otherwise, very great. Coraline: Was close but i loved this just a bit more. Great creepy-ness and great story.
The funny thing is, when I was little, I LOVED Astro boy. Like I watched it once and it was my favorite movie for years. A few months ago I went back and watched it and my face the whole time was 👁👄👁. It was a decent movie but I’m surprised I wasn’t TRAUMATIZED by Astro dying. The only thing that made it better was the fact that it was my favorite movie for so long. I was probably too young to remember it and just thought Astro boy was cute or something Edit: the same thing happened with ponyo. I idolized this movie and I still enjoyed ngl XD
Awsome! Thanks for sharing this with us 😁 " 2009 was the greatest year for animation *ever!*" It certainly was an amazing year for animated films, but then you look at tv animation from that year and all your dreams are shattered 😄
Ice Age 3>Ice Age>Ice Age 2>Ice Age 4>Ice Age 5. This order gets shuffled a lot in my mind, although the 5th one will always be worst and the 4th one will always be 2nd worst. Just my opinion
It is hobestly the best anime adaptation made by the west. Not because it is good, but because literally all the other ones are god awful. I have not watched the one about FullMetal Alchemist yet.
Ponyo is the Ghibli movie I come back to the most even though I know it's not their best or most distinguished work. There's just such a simple charm to it that watching it feels like home to me.

To me Dr. Facilier is one of the top 10 Disney villains, if not for the villain song than for his death scene.
Yeah he's like the only villain I can think of off the top of my head that had a death scene and holy fuck "Friends on the other side" was amazing.
Also from a Wiccan, the magik was scary accurate.
" He has friends from the oooother siiiiiiiiiiiiiiide" loved this song, loved the reprise for his death scene☠️
I know right

You know 2009 was a great year for animated films when the Academy Awards once decided to host an interview with all of the animated contenders nominated for Best Animated Feature: Coraline, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Princess and the Frog, Secret of Kells, and Up!
And Up won!
Honestly
Aside from the montage Up was a little not as good as the rest of the nominees
Personally I think Up was a little overhyped, but it's still better than most animated films that come out today (PLEASE note i said most).
According to the Unusual Suspect, it's one of the best Video Game movies.
Personally, I would put Secret of Kells at number one.

What I Think
Planet 51: Meh it was okay.
I haven't seen it
Fantastic Mr.
Sam and Max had a movie?
The hated toward the Cloudy films would come from Animat, who is also an Animation Critic, as he points out how unwatchable the character animation can be with the simplistically unappealing designs along with their over the top animation to try to entertain the audience, only to irritate him so much, he had to take off his glasses in order to continue with the film. Animat is an unlikely critic who has an interesting perspective on animated films. He especially compares the sequel to Norm of the North also with lowbrow humor and tiresome environmental messages.
I don't know why he gave Cloudy 2 a really lower score. He gave it a 2/10.

Thank you for reminding me how awesome 2009 was for film
My top 5 is as follows
5. 9 - I love this movie simply from its premise, the post apocalyptic setting, the horror of the robot monsters, as well as the inner conflicts between the group as their ideologies clash.
It definitely leaves a good taste in my mouth (and a sad reminder how much Sony Animation has soured)

Ice age really should of stop at dawn of the dinosaurs.
(cough cough Indiana Jones)
But Realtalk, I think that you can watch the first four when you have nothing to do or you're a babysitter and the little ones want to watch it, but the last one is horrible.

Woah Up came out in 2009? I feel so old
I remember when 2009 felt like a new year.
Honorable mention from animation of 2009 goes out to the Belgian film ‘A Town Called Panic’. It’s superlative award is being the definition of quirky, especially in its unique use of stop-motion animation.
i love that movie! i was hoping someone would mention it
Thank you SO much for mentioning a town called panic. Me and my brother always watch episodes of it when i was little. We always pretend to be one of the characters 😁😁😁
Ayyyyyy
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYE!
One. Word. UP.
@@maxusgintus8160 You literally missed the entire point of my comment
im genuinely sad that more people dont know about The Secret of Kells
i watched that with my parents for movie night one time, and god DAMN its BEAUTIFUL
its got a good plot, animation that honestly made me speechless, and a cat
A CAT GOD DAMN IT
Woo! Been hoping for this for a while! Are you redoing 2010-2012 as well?
TheEoghShow wondering the same thing. Hope so! Also kinda hope she goes back and does it for 2000 and on
Dave Kendall ...what?
@@dontstopmeenow I hope she ranks every year since animation was created.
TheEoghShow I wonder what she thinks of Legend of the Guardians The Owls of Ga'Hoole now
@@regirayquaza 😂😂😂
It kills me that large-scale traditional animation is falling by the wayside since 3D animation is less time-consuming and expensive. I don't hate 3D animation necessarily, but 2D is so beautiful and fascinating and timeless imo.
Well this was a pleasant surprise in my sub box!
Shrine your pfp is a pleasant surprise
I will forever be in gratitude for you putting Fireflies as the background music in the beginning
Princess and the Frog is my favorite princess movieeeeee. I do get your points tho
I didn't know either, I read that one day on tvtropes and was just as surprised.
Rarietty Yeah 2016 we got a lot from Disney... Moana, Zootopia and Finding Dory, we got Kubo and Kungfu Panda 3, Sausage Party.... XD
I'll defend the Wachowski's Speed Racer to the death. Severely underrated
Well more and more people are coming out saying they loved it 😁👌
Nathaniel Foga well THANK GOD
9 and coraline are why I adore creepy movies so much.
As a anthropology student , I watched Kells and it was great and when you compare it's art to the real Kells it's amazing
Secret of Kells will forever be my favorite movie and I live by that. Ive been watching it since it came out and I was like 4 when it came out. I love it so much I cant even describe it
2009 great year for animated movies but not for t.v animation.
*MY TOP 5 FAVORITE ANIMATED FILMS OF 2009*
1. 9
2. Coraline
3. Monsters vs. Aliens
4. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
5. Up
I do agree that Monsters vs Aliens is a fairly fun movie overall.
Just hearing the up theme made me tear up, its so good and that first part really tugs at your heart strings.
I had a big comment written but I lost it. So I'll do it again, but as i ranked them in my blog post.
Planet 51: Meh
Battle for Terra: you forgot this one. It's ambitious but Average
Monsters Vs Aliens: Felt too restrained but sitll fun
Ice Age 3: I think 2 is the best of the sequels but this was still fun enough for me./
Astro Boy: Yep, i quite like this one.
I loved Coraline. I watched it when I was 6 and had nightmares but when I got older it tuned into one of my favorites
Kells and Coraline tie imo for 1st place the amount of details in both films are astounding. I also want Panger bahn to be my cat.
OMG I completely forgot about Fantastic Mr. Fox! I watched that when I was FOUR!
Oohhhh the nostalgia...
I was probably too young to remember it and just thought Astro boy was cute or something
Edit: the same thing happened with ponyo.
I agree with you that Ice Age 3 is the best one.
For me it's the best sequel but in my opinion, the first film is a legit good movie
Ice Age>Ice Age 3>the other Ice Age movies.
Ice Age 3>Ice Age>Ice Age 2>Ice Age 4>Ice Age 5.
This order gets shuffled a lot in my mind, although the 5th one will always be worst and the 4th one will always be 2nd worst.
Just my opinion
My fav is the meltdown
As far as anime-based Hollywood movies go from 2009, at least Astro Boy remains comparatively better than (shudders) Dragonball Evolution!
It is hobestly the best anime adaptation made by the west. Not because it is good, but because literally all the other ones are god awful.
I have not watched the one about FullMetal Alchemist yet.
THE ANIME THAT MAKE ME HATE ALL OF ANIME
DBE DOES NOT EXIST!!!!
"And we'll look at 2010...eventually."
She said 9 months ago 😂
I know, I'm still waiting.
Oh frick, it's been almost two years now
It finally happened
Dustoo Mcnabb@ :,)
No one will change my mind.
I liked Astroboy, the Secret of Kells, and Ponyo.
Ponyo was actually my favorite Ghibli (did I spell that right?) film.
nostalgia?
Ponyos still my favorite but it's one of the only ghibli I've seen lol
Ponyo is the Ghibli movie I come back to the most even though I know it's not their best or most distinguished work. There's just such a simple charm to it that watching it feels like home to me.
