- The history of this unit defending its homeland spans more than a century. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, they faced the enemy on the hottest frontiers: in Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and near Bakhmut. The brigade has been commended by Volodymyr Zelenskyy at least half a dozen times, and President Biden quoted one of its soldiers in his speech. Now, they continue to liberate their homeland. This is the story of the 128th separate mountain assault brigade.

I'm a 69yo man from Vancouver BC Canada. Back in the 1970s there used to be a lot of WW2 vets around, I used to like talking to them about their war experiences, This one American who was in the US Army during the war and had been in a lot of combat, he told me some of the guys would get wounded 2-3 times would get mad, brave and fuelled by adrenalin they would fight like hell Just like Alexander... Glory to the Brave Heroes of the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade.
It just goes to show what a 'shot in the arm' can do for a guy's motivation! . . . and his 'will to get even!' 😉

I suppose that the 128th's shopping cart should have Hummers, Strykers, Bradleys, M777s, and backed by Himars and Blackhawks. My observations flows from the 10th Mountain Division's fighting in Italy during World War II. That shoulder patch needs to be rendered in full color.

During the Cold War, I monitored the then 128th Guards Motorized Rifle Division at Mukacheve as well as the other units of the Carpathian Military District. I am very happy that the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade now truly serves Ukraine and not the USSR! Slava Ukraine from this old retired US Army officer!

Thank you for the note on Transcarpathia; however, I think you misunderstand me. My reference was to the Cold War period, specifically the mid-1980s. At that time, the 128th was a guards division of the 38th Army (in Ivano-Frankivsk), Carpathian (or Subcarpathian, if you prefer) Military District. My responsibility encompassed this military district as well as the Belarussian and Baltic military districts, and had previously been the Southern Group of Forces in Hungary. Consequently, I am familiar with, for example, the 93rd Brigade and the 24th Brigade (formerly the Iron Division). I applaud Ukraine for dropping the Soviet appellations and honorifics!@@user.Green.elowston

Ukrainian troops recieved NATO training to bring them up to speed on modern combat operations. Now Ukraine's combat veterans surpass their trainers in hard fought and won knowledge on trench clearing operations. When this war is over the Ukrainian soldiers xan return the training favor and bring NATO up to speed on how to fight successfully in modern trench warfare. They are now the experts through experience on what works. Looking forward to a peaceful time when these hardcore troops can teach a master class on effective modern trench wsrfare.
