    I worked at a Toyota dealership in the late 90’s and 2000. The Mark 4 when new wasn’t very well loved. People said it was too soft, to heavy, too much like a Lexus.
    In 2000 we had two, a 96 and 98 on the lot unsold.

      Yeah exactly! My mom and grandmother were accountants at Toyota in the early to late 90s. I remember people over looking them all the time. Specifically rememeber a customer choosing a MR2 over the Supra on a late night deal because he said the Supra looked boring 🤣 a lot of people hated it. With the shorter wheel base, and it it recieved criticism about not looking like a Supra with the pop up lights that the A70 had before it. And oh my gosh when the 550 Maranello came out people had a field day saying it was the 550 wanna be 🤣 its ashame she recieved so much criticism when she debuted. Kinda like how the A90 does now. There's tons of stories like this from people who remember when these cars were new. One of my employees said his wife gave him a choice between the A80 and Z32 2+2. He chose the Z32 because he just didn't like how the Supra looked. Funny thing is he still has the Z32 from 95. Its crazy how things turn out

      @mrjjthor 4 года назад +15

      @@KeenanStyles I can understand. The a80 came out when I was in junior high and only noticed it because my big bro was a huge Supra fan. I thought it looked too happy but came to like the looks because of the street racing scene and tuner car magazines, before F&F. The sw20 was my dream car and I was able to own one. Sold it to my bro but still sad to see it gone.

      It was a grand tourer and was like 40K for a TT model, so it's kinda understood. In 1993 me and my father went out and cross shopped a Supra TT and Z32 TT. We test drove both, etc. He ended up getting the 300zx because it was a fair bit cheaper, almost 10k. It also hand tight Twisties better.

    Unpopular opinion: I honestly hate when people mod Supras to over 600 horsepower. I have enough of "1000HP SUPRA BUILD BIG TURBOS DRAG SLICKS ANTILAG + PONY IN THE TRUNK". Around 300 - 500 HP is perfectly enough for me. I like when cars are kept "street tuned" and actually able to both daily drive it and have some fun. Especially that it's RWD.

    Very fun review! I'm not against modding cars at all, but I always feel some obligation or desire to experience a car in it's original form before I go fiddling with it. I want to make sure I have that reference point so I can tell if I'm improving or just ruining whatever I'm working on, lol. I have reversed a few mods because they made some aspect of a car enough worse than original.

    Also, if we're talking stock for stock.. Skyline. The added novelty factor is fun for sure,its driving around a Halo car of Unobtanium. Otherwise though, its honestly a much more entertaining car in STOCK form. I also prefer the scream of a RB26 to the bark of the 2J, but if we're being honest and as a R32 GTR owner...the 2J is a far superior motor overall. Siamese bores are life. As are oil pump that arent made of glass and driven by two minor flat spots to a factory 8500rpm redline...
    I still have fun and enjoy my BNR32 more than the Mk4. Just personal opinion

    • @jordanprice9285
      @jordanprice9285 4 года назад +2

      As far as making power yeah, but tbh the Skylines have better engines even tho the Siamese bores and Oil pumps are far better designed than the RB26's, the RB26 still has a more linear powerband, better center of gravity and sits lower in the engine bay, better designed cylinder heads and can rev higher from the slightly smaller design and can fit a bit better because it's also a shorter engine to the 2JZ making it easier to fit in cars like the 240SX and 300ZX. At least that's how I see it because I agree that the Skyline is a far more entertaining car to drive and it's no surprise that some friends of mine had bought them in GTS-T forms and use those with the RB25's instead

    • @brianjewell4139
      @brianjewell4139 4 года назад +1

      @@jordanprice9285 Yep im talking strictly as far as reliability and "max effort power"
      Thats the EXACT reason I prefer the RB26, it has so much character, it feels like an old school motor (which it is) and that adds to the enjoyment. I also agree, I prefer the oversquare design woth ots lack of torque because it revs so freely up top.
      I just had the misfortune of spinning a bearing in my 850whp 2.6L build, I've got a few videos up of it on low-low break in boost, so now im going 3.2L Billet Nitto stroker (as its actually cheaper than going with another N1 block at these ridiculous prices..)

    As much as the stock Supra was slow, it was never meant to be fast. It was intended to be a Grand Tourer, which is why it had the bubbly and thick design in the first place. It wasn't until the late 1990s/ early 2000s when people found out the engine has potential to be better than what it was meant for because of the design and materials it used. I'd still drive a stock mk4 or mk5 supra, even if it's overhyped because of the history it came with.

I had 2 JZS161 Aristos prior to the A80 but those were VVTI. Timeless design, reliable, quick, comfortable, quiet, with lexus luxury.
    So basically everything that makes a "street" car perfect. And of course the ability to be crazy fast aswell.
    I have never seen fast and furious or anything. But i think the supra is a beautiful car and I can see why its so desirable. I personally wouldn't turn it into a racecar if i owned one.

    For me, Stock Supra represents a loving and caring wife. We here in Philippines take care of vehicles stock good condition, wish they had sold it locally but we got none only imports and modified, if I was that owner I would daily drive it, travel to countryside and treat it as human

    I miss my old Supra. It's one of my dream cars. But at the same time. They're not exactly my style in that, yes they are heavy and also I'm more of a 4wd type of guy. Which is why evos are also my dream car and hopefully I'll be buying on on the weekend.
    The Supra definitely gives you a special feeling to sit in. But I can't stand rwd anymore. And also I love lighter more nimble cars more. And now with Supra prices through the roof they aren't really worth it anymore unless you can throw around the money for one easy.

    I remember. I had the choice back in 96 to buy either a red supra or a black 94 RX7. I Didn't know much about cars back then but looking at them both the RX7 just won me over by a land slide! If i only new how many apex seals i would go through over the years i definitely would have bought the supra and probably still have it to this day.
