I must say, as the owner of a MKIII Auto, the only thing I would change on the car is the auto box. Its not terrible as they go, but a 4 speed auto mated to a 3 litre turbo charged engine does not make for any discernable fuel economy. Granted, it could be argued that its not the sort of car you should buy if you have any sort of fuel economy concerns, but i cant help but think if it didn't have a 30 year old auto box in the mix i'd be considerably better off financially 😂
Brings back flashbacks of my Volvo 850 T5 auto that thing had a serious drinking problem at best I was getting 28mpg that would be more like 22mpg when driven "normally". But you know what the fuel consumption was totally worth having a car that could wheel spin all the way through 2nd gear no sweat.
While i would certainly accept some culpability for its perceived thirst, i do genuinely feel that these old-school auto boxes (keep in mind i'm talking about an 80's supra here) hold in gear for longer than they need to in 'normal' driving conditions. But yeah? i suppose i shouldn't try and convince myself that the auto box is single handedly responsible for my being on first-name terms with the petrol station staff!
I'd suspect the 3.0 turbo being the main factor to being on first name terms with petrol station staff but obviously being bolted onto an oldschool 4 speed slushbox doesn't help matters. Also I'm a massive fan of the 80s Supra don't see many of them around any more.

They’re easily converted to manual anyway so it’s not that big a deal to me at least. But, I would have to convert it at some point, sports cars just have to have a manual gearbox.

The FTO died its death for a good reason if you ask me - woefully under powered in stsndard form, FWD when everything about the styling screams 'RWD COUPE' and as far as im aware they were only ever available in auto form in the UK. Mitsubishi could have made an incredible MR2 competitor and instead they effectively made the Hyundai Coupe of its time
unless you are road racing, only idiots complain about the transmission. TRUE Supra lovers or those who want an ACTUAL Supra dont care, much like I did. Also smart Supra enthusiests will know how horrible the getrag transmission is in putting the power down from a dig and how delicate it is in that there are no more parts for it and they cost an arm and a leg. the A340 is where its at for drag and road race.

Nice video and lovely car
what Hp can this Box hold , how much HP can you reach with little changes?
If that specific car is ever for sale ;) I need it
We had 13 of these .... no joke
Sadly any auto car gets hate when they have a manual option on the same vehicle
They’re easily converted to manual anyway so it’s not that big a deal to me at least.
But, I would have to convert it at some point, sports cars just have to have a manual gearbox.
UNLESS you want to drag race, and not loose.
Lose*
@@MrSteveo114 *eyeroll*
I love manual transmission. But really painful driving them around congested cities. I will never drive a manual car again in cities. I don’t give a shit about what manual transmission fanboys say. Life is full of struggles already. one less struggle in your daily life is a big treat to yourself.
James may inspired shirts?
Supras were designed to be a sports car and that is what they are. Everyone seems to forget that.
And...
Izimujack it was quick but more GT than sports car I felt with the one I owned
@@2702simmo more GT... you sure you owned one? seems like you didnt really drive it thus why it was comfy
@@ps.6023 I sure did .
I’d not long had a GTR33 that was the complete opposite which I lived and numerous 200sx’s.
It is more of a GT anyway and that Lexus engine is a very smooth straight 6
It was mega quick just not that exciting in my opinion
I had it in 2006, a Uk spec Twin turbo
@@ps.6023 do you own one now?
Does the tt stand for triptronic or twin turbo
are you stupid?
I wouldn't change one of the best gearbox ever made V160 for the automatic, that's nonsense. Everybody can see whats the best gearbox and it can be seen in many tests...try to get a V160 for less than a auto.
I doubt you get, and its not better, faster or more reliable, thats a fact
How many trims did the ml4 had at its time
Wished they would of made 7th generation celica this fast.
See, people are coming Round to the fact the auto box is fine! But... AdrianFlux advert put me off, they're okay tbf but they weren't helpful at all for me and tried to make me have a black box at 21 😂
Haha, I don't have any cars actually insured with them at present but I have in the past and they're generally better for older drivers I find
What would the price of this car be?
Where are you based, dude ?! Interested in looking at my Toyota (Lexus) Soarer 1jz Twin Turbo /manual ?
East of England but I get around, would love to do a Soarer - drop me a line on JayEmm89@gmail.com
i switched off soon as you said adrian flux, i hope someone steals that supra.
Why?
is it only me when the camera shooting the gear almost throw out ?
The FTO died its death for a good reason if you ask me - woefully under powered in stsndard form, FWD when everything about the styling screams 'RWD COUPE' and as far as im aware they were only ever available in auto form in the UK.
Mitsubishi could have made an incredible MR2 competitor and instead they effectively made the Hyundai Coupe of its time
Yup big misstep in my opinion
Andy Higgy wasn’t it supposed to be a rival to the integra ?
Wasnt aware of that but it does make sense now you mention it actually. Even there though they would have missed the mark methinks.
A guy runs 9s with a 500hp automatic Supra
get a 6 speed, its notchy to the point it feels broken. but hey no "o its auto" comments"
who cares about those tools? really
There are automatic Supras that do 8.6 in the 1/4. With 976-bhp TRC channel look it up-
I dont like manuals because im bad at shifting lol
unless you are road racing, only idiots complain about the transmission. TRUE Supra lovers or those who want an ACTUAL Supra dont care, much like I did. Also smart Supra enthusiests will know how horrible the getrag transmission is in putting the power down from a dig and how delicate it is in that there are no more parts for it and they cost an arm and a leg. the A340 is where its at for drag and road race.
face or pre-face is better and more raliable
Can't hold a candle to the R154 gearbox for strength. Manual>Automatic. This 2JZ is still in hibernation.
take one on the drag strip against a manual and the automatic will win. sit down rice boy.
Tell that to an ATF speed A340
I love supra
I wonder why the supra isnt modified.......
i have over 12 supras in my collection, the Autos are faster.
NUH UUUUUH JOOO JUST CANT DRIVEE.... -every ricer ever.
Looking at one right now for £28,000
Swap in a 350z manual for a few thousand. Rated to 1000brake.
@@iCozzh and shitty as hell.
Have you ever reviewed a Uk spec V8 mustang Jay? I have just suggested it on 27 too👌🏽 I shouldn’t like them I know 💁🏻♂️But I do 🙄so before I have a moment of weakness sometime in the future and possibly buy the Donald Trump of automobiles I would love to hear what either of you guys would have to say about one ?
I haven't but I may be able to find one. Have you seen my review of the US Spec V6? Not the same I know but a lot of things about them are shared
JayEmm on Cars I haven’t Jay but I will have a look 👀 But for me it’s got to be a V8 not a eco boost or v6 although the eco boost makes the most sense it’s not the soul of a muscle car
Oh of course, V8 all the way. I love the look of the Mustang but I must confess I am a Corvette man
JayEmm on Cars I like them to Jay but the steering wheel is on the wrong side to hold my attention 😉if I did a road trip down Route 66 I would have to have a Vet or a Shelby 😎 a dime would be flipped
I have got to say I would go JDM in one of them😎👍🏽 Definitely as cool as the other side of the pillow. If I can ask a question do you know if it’s cheaper to speak to Adrian Flux insurance directly? Because having done a few upgrades to my M3 I have used the 2 main compare websites and they both said Mr Flux but completely different quotes? ?
So Flux and Flux Direct are actually two different companies. Confusing I know!
Phone them using 0800 085 6452 and they are the best people to talk to, especially if you have mods. Mention me and it won't get you a special discount but it helps me out :)
JayEmm on Cars I will say that from one Jay to another ✊🏼 That when I mentioned you to Marco @Fulltorqueautomotive.co.uk he was not only everything you recommended and more 👍🏽he stayed until 9pm to rebuild the gearbox on my wife’s bmw and even included a Respray on it so it looked as fresh on the outside 😇as it is on the inside. And repaired a slight oil leak on her rocker cover for free. So I’m more than impressed and from that day forth he has got my business. Thank you so I will certainly mention you 😉
Too bad supras are slow AF out of the box.
As much money you have to put in them to make them fast, you could have had a Porsche.
Most weird car vid I’ve ever watched. Felt like they didn’t know what they were in, or doing 😂🤦♂️
Just put a manual in it. Cant be that difficult.
that is quite the workload to do mate
Why? A real car person would appreciate that it’s an automatic lmao
Once I saw “automatic” I was like oh no
wrong side steering + wrong gearbox
then gtfo and go biy a civic moron
