Just got off a 12 day Transatlantic and wow, what a weird ship. There are a lot of oddities. I believe a number of them are because the ship is relatively old and was not designed with today's popular features in mind so things were shoehorned in, and refurbs made things appear out of place. 1) The two ping pong tables sort of shoved in the corner, like, "We need ping pong but there's no room for it so, hey, let's stick it here." 2) Same with the two shuffleboard courts on deck 7 which are literally not mentioned ANYWHERE - not online, not on the deck plans, not in the daily planner. You just have to find it. 3) The "Main Pool" I believe may once have been a main pool before they added the waterslides on the one side and the kids' waterpark on the other. So now it's sort of an orphan pool. 4) They removed a bunch of things on deck 17 but haven't put anything in their places - mini golf, bungee trampoline, rock wall, etc. They used to be there but are gone now. 5) The sports court plopped on top on deck 18 like a wedding cake, with no place to watch. Other ships have a spectator area but, again, this appears to be a case of something missing and they needed a place for it. 6) Shanghai's which is obviously something they stuck in where there used to be slots since there was no other place for it. Now you get the smoke wafting in from the casino. 7) Imaginarium used to be for magic and Cirque-type shows but they didn't work out so now it's just another venue - but designed for something completely different. 8) Entrance to Spice H2O - you have to enter the arcade then exit the arcade to get to it (unless you use the aft elevators). This is clearly a design flaw that I'm guessing happened because they added the arcade later on. Very very weird. 9) And the weirdest thing - the aft staircases and elevators are IN the buffet instead of separating it from the pool deck like every other ship I've been on. To get from the aft elevators to the pool deck you actually have to enter the front section of the buffet then exit it. "Washy washy" they say - no, I'm just trying to get to the pool deck. This appears to be because the buffet wasn't big enough so they took some of the pool deck and expanded it. And, like you mentioned, the "Marketplace" which also appears to be a well-intentioned something or other.

Thanks for your considered and well observed comment. We liked the ship but it is somehow odd at the same time we agree.

@@niceshipcruising Yup. I liked it, too, once I got used to the peculiarities of it. None of those things were dealbreakers. There were other issues but not related to the ship's design (like no internet).

95% of the ship in non smoking. I'm so tired of people picking on the smokers, let them have a vacation too.
