Poor Charlie. He must have felt he failed as a father to protect his daughter Kat.
From his own brother as well.
@@Senate300 Think the actor who played Harry is dead in real life ' two up two down ' Quadrophenia with future Kevin Wicks as Jimmy ' plays Jimmy's dad.
@@paulfrost8895 yes Michael Elphick who played Harry Slater died almost a year after this on the 7th September 2002
He blamed Kat for it. I'm glad he died in agony. (Not the actor)
@@Stephen_Reid I loved the Sweeney episode Message of the Gods it was called from back in the late 70s ' the actor who plays Charlie plays a villian henchman who fights with DS George Carter played by the now sadly late Dennis Waterman on a building site ' love the bit where Dennis snarls your nicked before punching him out before arresting him ' think he was later in a Minder episode too ' great shows those were.
Probably the single most iconic scene on EE ever was Kat screaming, "Yes I Am".....
Is that Gary who is wearing a girl vest.
The best EastEnders episode was the crossover with Corrie 🤣
Frank's Bow Tie at pats was funny
@@MonstehDinosawr Denise and Gail 😂
Dirty Den serving Angie with the divorce papers
Charlie was such a good man he was the dad/grandad/uncle/male figure every girl needed growing up i cried like a baby when he passed away and this whole storyline will always go down as one of the best in EE history!
Incredible acting and back when Eastenders was at its true PRIME
One of Charlie's most iconic moments tbh
Legend has it Charlie Slater was a hell of a scrapper back in the day see why all the slaters get their temper and right hooks from
Exactly! Charlie may have mellowed with age but where else did his girls especially Kat get her fiery temper and fighting style from? Her dad
We were all cheering Charlie on.
I dont blame charlie .He had every right to be angry
Why?
@@zakvondaniken9327 because harry raped someone he cares about
@@zakvondaniken9327. His younger brother (Harry) abused Charlie's daughter Kat and got her pregnant at 13 resulting in her having Zoe.
Personally I think he was way to kind. But that's just my opinion.
Jessica Wallace's acting is off the scale here. How great was EastEnders in those days.
Charlie landed some good hits to be fair
Best one when Charlie punch Ian
@@ollye4513 Charlie was quite tough during the early 2000s era he attacked Trevor a a few times, beat up Harry, punch Ian, battered Graham and grabbed Alfie and Billy. Not hardmen but he was older than all of them so is pretty decent.
@@alfiemoon2516 big mistake killing Charlie off
@@alfiemoon2516 Well to be fare no one is gonna stand there and hear their nieces were raped by their brother it’s common logic he was gonna go after this rapist even if it was his brother it’s probably that last thing you wanna to hear.
One of the best scenes ever when Charlie battered Harry.
But this was the beginning of the end of decent EastEnders.
When did decent EastEnders end for you?
@@Anonymous_Anon882 Never started!Ha!! God knows why I put up watching it for like 20 years ' terrible show ' just like all soaps are these days ' Corrie was great when I was a kid ' and there was Crossroads ' and the Sullivans which I never watched as much as the first 2 ' now there 's no more humor ' just everyone trying to outdo or kill each other ' such dark times.
@@paulfrost8895 they've gone extreme because they have to compete with reality shows nowadays. It started with shows like _Big Brother_ and _The Osbournes_ in the early 2000s which made soaps no longer influential like before.
@Chops mhm, whatever. Something like that.
I'd say eastenders was great up to around 2020 or so. I know it had its shit years, too, but some of the years up to 2020 were great. I quit watching it during lockdown in early 21 and never went back to it, but 2001 was not its last good era.
Whilst I understood Charlie's anger, I think if I'd been him, I'd have comforted Kat first, THEN stormed into the Vic to punch Harry's lights out and disown him!
Jack Dunne He said COMFORTED. As in comfort her. Not confronted her.
@@jackanoryboy93 bruv 😂🤦♂️
@@sadako24 actually it was inferred that charlie felt disgust at kat, she did not receive much support as the family initially believed she lead him on at some level.
I think he was too shocked ' at that point to think rationally ' as most people would be.
She was locked in the bathroom, he didn't have the chance.
Shame Charlie was Killed off he was a good Character and and such underated hardman.
@dave IsDave he could defo pack a punch he was just too old and past his peak to be a proper toughnut he proberly was when he was young
Charlie a hard man lmao that was the best line I ever heard in eastenders lol
True, Charlie wasnt scared of Sean and he backed down from him
Well he was stronger than Trevor he held him down before in the Vic and trevor struggled. and he beat up harry. Grabbed Alfie against the Cigarette machine and he beat up Graham foster and punched a prison officer. Punched Ian Beale. Grabbed Doctor Trueman when he thought it was an intruder. The only time he missed his punch on trevor was when he had a Bag of Eggs and he had his Hands full and wasnt prepared fully but the same day Charlie went to see trevor and elbowed Trevor in the Stomach and kneed him between the legs throttled him and punched him in the mouth. But when he was prepared he walloped him hard by the door with little Mo and trevor Shat himself. He stood up to Sean. Punched Ian which wasnt difficult for anyone anyway. He would have beaten Johnny Alan that xmas day but stacey pushed him for Charlie and he would have many more EE people if he needed to he was a quiet gentle soul. But if they crossed him he would hurt them. It's the quiet ones to watch
And how many people it took to hold Charlie Back. Charlie nearly knocked over Beppe at 02:29 aswell lol charlie would take most people down the same way. Hes the sort that if he got hold of you your F#%ked Basically. Charlie needed half the Men in the Vic to hold him
But it's sad that Charlie Slater died . I'm so glad he's in Heaven now with his wife.
Idiot go and do your salah
@@Anonymous_Anon882 He's actually passed away IRL

What a fucked up situation, remember watching this at 16 years old thinking, hmm that's messed up but now as a father, damn!! it's fucked up.. Harry Slater got off lightly

Charlie was the hardest taxi driver in EastEnders.
He was the only one as well.
Mitch Baker might have something to say about that.
Despite the tragedy of it all, I love the way Harry Slatters "Mr Popular" image amoung all the residents of the square is totally and abruptly shattered. They are all bidding him a heros goodbye in the Vic and Charlie storms in and knocks 7 bells out of him!!
I remember this. A very powerful storyline with very powerful performances and writing. The show's boss, Sean O'Conner, was involved in this storyline, so wait and see what he comes up with. No doubt it will be as massive as this, as well as Little Mo's Domestic Abuse storyline that he was also involved in. Sean has recently promised a very explosive summer and autumn. How exciting!
This post aged like oak-basked fine sherry (never-mind ordinary fine wine). L.M.A.O., still.
Ian’s tiny bits being beholden to Stacey and Jane just for the sake of one silly two-minute diabetes storyline was his idea of seismic drama of his own productional accord and it was just one big massive, silly flop. People could hardly believe what they were watching (the bits that they were able to stay awake for, that is).
Haha Charlie Slater says leave me leave me they leave him and then Charlie went nyyyyaaaaa
Haha your comment is gold!!! 😂
Oh good old days. I miss them so much.😧😧
Ironic. Michael Elphick played a barrister in 1979 prosecuting a young victim of incest who'd stabbed her rapist father.
If everyone didn't break up that fight, Charlie would have definitely killed Harry with his bare hands. Proper old school hard man & family man. Shame show never give Charlie some fight scenes.
Remember Dennis Waterman slugged him as George Carter in a Sweeney episode back in the 70s ' the actor was playing a villian.
Some say this was when Eastenders was worth watching but don't forget 2003-06 era with Den, Dennis, Dalton, Johnny Allen and Andy Hunter, or even the 2007-09 era with Archie, Danielle, Ronnie and Roxy, I would say the show went downhill the moment Archie died xmas 2009. Now its officially dead.
I think 1999-2003 was good, 2004 was dreadful and 2005-2007 it went back good. 2008-2017 was okay and 2018-) has just been meh
@@bunston1x521 I thought we were over the myth that 2004 was the show’s worst ever year. I’d say that title’s been subsumed by all of the past 10 years and even a few years from the prior decade (2006 and 2008 were fairly poor as well. I don’t remember 2004 being that bad save for the Ferreiras and the inconsistencies in Den 2.0’s characterisation.
2018-) has been dreadful agreed. i didn’t enjoy 2011-2013 either
@@bunston1x521 how would you rank the individual years from 2001 to 2009 if you don’t mind me asking? I’d be interested to hear where 2005 in particular fits in.
although the get johnny week in 2006 was decent to a degree..
Kat was pretty back then.
that’s a bit rude saying she’s ugly now 😂
I would still give her holes an unbelievable slamming today.
thanks for uploading this
Oh! I wish they stayed on the P.O.V. shot as Charlie punched Harry instead of cutting to a normal shot. Then it would have looked a bit like one of the James Bond video games.
He had the pov when he punched Ian too
This was hardly suprising Harry does fit the stereotype of a pervert
It's bad when someone prays on your child it's downright horrific but to know it was someone you love and trusted especially a sibling who preyed on your child well your whole world is turned upside down
it’s disgusting but i don’t understand how he’s almost blaming her
lmao everyone in the Vic are all like 'wut'
Also, brothers called Charlie and Harry...Charlie Bit My Finger memes
Legendary acting
If I'd been one of the punters in the vic, when Charlie went for Harry, I'd be asking "What's THIS all about?" Bear in mind that none of them-Phil, Garry, Beppe, Roy, Barry-had any idea what Harry had done!
They did ask Harry after Charlie left
RIP Charlie and now also Kat😥😥😥
alex jones Kat is not dead!
Kevin Longman Maybe not, but did you see Redwater???
alex jones No as it looked like a load of old bollox.
Kevin Longman Which is why you don't know what happened to Kat...yet!

Charlie is the toughest Slater out of all of em...
Tougher than Sean?
@Qasim Hussain Easily. A prime Charlie would give Sean a run for his money though.
@Qasim Hussain We know Charlie was a better fighter in his prime though considering he was fitter, stronger and faster than he was in his old age. So he would definitely give Sean a good fight in his prime.
And I would say:
Rick would beat Andy with ease
Ray vs Beppe could go either way
Zak would edge Matthew
Jack would batter Charlie
Dennis would edge Nathan
Frank would edge David
Aaron would easily beat Carl, Carl did overpower him once but Aaron was 16 years old
James would destroy Adam
Aaron would beat Andy but it would be close
What about you?
Big Mo would slam all of them.
Sad to see boon reduced to a role like this
Not me stoned thinking that was a spider crawling on Kats shoulder when she slammed the bathroom door 🤦😂😂

Wtf is Gary wearing there ? 😂
Kat's "dad" was always the worst. He literally blamed HER and never truly apologised. He only punches his brother here as he saw it as him "taking" his property/daughter. He was just as pure evil as his brother.
I totally disagree. He probably should have at least noticed the abuse, but he does everything to amend things when he finds out the truth, disowning his brother Harry, spitting in his face as he does so, even refusing to visit his wife's grave because she knew of the abuse and covered it up. Charlie is a hero in my book , he does time instead of receiving a medal for attacking his other daughter Mo's rapist Graham. He is a good man plagued by tragedy he doesn't deserve in my opinion and very far from evil.
@@colinjoyce4685 Perhaps due to my own issues I was too quick to claim him as being evil. I don't believe he did the best he could after he found out though, Kat still felt she was to blame and kindly forgave him when he died. I don't believe he deserved her forgiveness TBH. As for Little Mo; That was out of guilt. Sorry, I do accept I've got bias but I just don't see him as a hero in any way. Evil, alright I was perhaps quick to jump to, but he was not decent when he should have been.
@@user-uc8px6pp1z I don't think Charlie was the worst Lynne was. She was always so fucking selfish and me me me just lile her mother Viv. I remember when Lynne found out she said she was gonna confront Harry and Charlie told her no he didn't want her near him and she replied "it'll make me feel better dad" it wasn't about her it was about Kat finally revealing a horrrific secret and Lynne made it about her she didn't even comfort Kat. Charlie I think was disgusted by Kat getting pregnant at 13 and it caused a rift in their relationship and Charlie when he finally found out the truth didn't know how to heal it so he tried to carry on as normal. But there were times when he did comfort Kat and realised she wasn't to blame. He was a good dad overall it was his wife who was a cold bitch she dismissed Kat when she told her what Harry did and then secretly told Harry to leave, then basically stole Kat's babies as it was twins and forced Kat to keep Harry's abuse a secret.
And to be fair to Charlie there is no manual on how to handle your child being sexually abused by your brother. Abuse completely blows families apart when it comes out the victim is often traumatised and some hit self destruct like Kat did, the bystanders are in shock like Charlie was followed by rage and some like Lynne and Viv are selfish fuckers who make it about themselves.
Eastenders did a fantastic job of showing that with Kat's abuse storyline it was like a bomb going off in the Slater family and sadly in real life this does happen victiming blaming even in 2023 is still rife because its easier to blame them than the abuser because an abuser truly doesn't believe they've done anything wrong even Harry blamed Kat when she confronted him and said she led him on for wearing a short skirt and Kat replied "that was my school uniform"
you ain't just declared Charlie Slater as pure evil have you? LMAO
Why does 2001 look like 1972? lol
Charlie was one hard bastard
John Williams I've shat harder
He beat up Harry, Trevor and Graham and also dropped Ian just a shame he wasn't younger

was originally going to be dirty den after law and order where he played a bent cid officer to pete deans blagger alan ford also made his debut in it. however bbc had no great track record in soaps so he was offered the lead in a show on itv so thought that was the better option. sadly it only ran one season.
Charlie in his younger days was probably on the same level as Sean.

The person who told kat years later lied about Charlie knowing what Harry did. Charlie surely didn't know. He was disgusted
@@AS-wj1duCharlie only ever knew Kat was pregnant at 13 but not who the father was. He and Viv chose to raise Zoe as their own.

IS IT TRUE! Charlie, control your anger mate
No his daughter was raped by a peodphile he has every right to be mad
What do you mean control your anger his younger brother literally abused kat and got her pregnant at 13 ffs with Zoe
Charlie was close to his brother but don’t mess with his girls
Kat discovers in 2018, before Christmas of that year, that her father Charlie MAY have known all along of Harry's abuse of her and ignored it. These scenes make it obvious that this was far from true!
That’s an insult that is. Charlie clearly did not know!
@@GinolasSon Yes, back in 2018, Kat meet a cable called Morris, who said that Harry was bragging during a pub lock in how he had his way with Kat and Charlie heard it and said or did nothing, leading Kat to believe Charlie knew of the abuse all along. Kat was training to be a cabbie herself at the time and meet this Morris guy in the same pub many years later. She even has a flashback in her dream on Christmas morning 2018, of a younger uncle Harry hugging her with an errie grin on his face after her mother said "say thanks to uncle Harry Kat". The younger uncle Harry even says "I know what you like" to Kat. A young Charlie is by the fire toasting crumpets in the flashback. It was the day Kat finds out that Alfie is baby Chery's father and that he has an affair with Haley Slater. However I didn't agree with Kats opinion about Charlie, big Mo tells her "he loved the bones of ya"
@@GinolasSon Follow on to last reply : Alfie tracks down this Morris bloke a few days later because Kat is so upset, and Morris confirmed that Charlie probably didn't hear Harry's comment in that pub all those years ago.
@@colinjoyce4685 thank for the info. I hate it when they mess with established history. It’s an affront to our intelligence. Charlie’s reaction here proves that he couldn’t have known or even suspected Harry, and the knowledge of his late wife even keeping the truth from him made him even madder.

I very, very rarely watch Eastenders but have noticed that they tend to skip the "good" bits!! Here Charlie doesn't know who Zoe's father is, the scene changes to Kat alone in the bathroom and then back to Charlie who now knows. Why? So anticlimactic, boring, disappointing!!!
Weeble68 they never filmed a scene showing Zoe telling Charlie what happened
My point exactly!!
@@Weeble68, because they didn't need to. They'd already done a scene of Kat revealing the gory details of Zoe's parentage to Zoe herself. The Charlie scenes were about his reaction to the news rather than a repetition of the revelation itself.
It would have been repetitive, half of what Zoe told Charlie was already exposed in a two-hander episode between Kat and Zoe. It would have been unneeded filler. All you needed was the acknowledgement that Zoe would tell him against Kat begging her not to, and you are led to assume that in the time it took for Kat to run up the stairs and into the bathroom, Zoe, would have told all, after that all that was needed was Charlie's angry reaction.
