What is most striking is this- not ONE regrets losing their faith. Indeed, many report a feeling of freedom, having thrown off the shackles of religious superstition. Given your background, you are ideally situated to help others recover from their childhood indoctrination. Welcome to the real world, the world of science and reason.

Comments like "this proves he was a narcissist" is beyond ridiculous - people listen to a few RUclips programmes or read some articles in a magazine & think they're experts - they're not.
Narcissism now gets tossed around by these "armchair diagnosticians"" who have no formal learning other than the RUclips programs they watch That scene in both movies is nothing that points to narcissism - especially when one is the boss & employer & the other a long term employee.
The boss/ employer is going to say & decide on matters & may appear harsh - that's not "narcissism" by a long shot, not even close. Bosses are in charge & decide on matters bc that's part of their job as boss/ owner & employer & rightly so.
So were this situation real it shows " Dan" acting as the boss &, putting some boundaries around the matter. Further, in one movie the employee quits instantly & the other doesn't! So saying "he was a "Narcissist" is beyond ridiculous.

Patricia Cook are you aware of all the facts? She couldn’t have had everything still as you put it. Her husband screwed her over in secret using his legal knowledge to continuously reduce her financial entitlement to a pittance and after years of bringing up their children almost single handedly he removed even visitation rights. I don’t agree with what she did but he also gaslighted the hell out of her and drove her to this temporary insanity where his own appalling behaviour backfired in a terrible way for all the family. There were no winners.

    • @rachaelgunn-mugisha291

Dan (R.I.P.) drove her insane. The series really show both Dan (R.I.P.) & Betty’s characters pretty well. She’d lived all her life for her husband & children; Dan (R.I.P.) ripped her of everything she valued. The devaluing, rejection, abandonment etc…can really drive you insanely off your supposed personality. They both needed help however, stubbornness leads to no one winning. May their souls (Dan & Linda) continue to R.I.P. & I hope Betty found her peace plus the children too.

There were reasons why he didn't want to be with Betty anymore her spending habits were one of those reasons, the icing on the cake was when she dumped her children on the doorstep of Dan's house thinking he could cope without her and he would see sense and come back to her. Dan used that as leverage to gain custody of their children, You are right she should of moved on with her own life and started again. She chose to kill her ex husband and his new wife she is now paying the price for it, unless she shows remorse she will not get past a parole board. Lesson of the day never rely on a man for your income always have your own income and a back up plan in case he decides to leave you.

*Betty* had no right to kill Dan. Yes, she gave him the best years of her life only for him to leave her for a younger woman, and I get that frustration, but she was a mother and should've prioritized her children's needs. They'll suffer forever for this.
*Dan* was the lesser of 2 evils. He shouldn't have cheated, and the problems he and Betty had could've been handled better if they were both simply more mature. Still, he didn't deserve to die.
*Linda* is the only one for whom I feel NO sympathy. She should've minded her own business. Instead, she messed with a married man and fanned the flames to an already problematic family. I once had a married man try to get with me, but I told him I wanted NONE of that trouble and then blocked him. I have enough problems in my life, lol.
P.S.- However you feel about the story in real life, I think we can all agree Meredith Baxter is a PHENOMENAL actress!

She wouldn’t leave the creep because of religious reasons and partially out of fear. She finally became such a fragile mess he asked my parents to take her in. When a priest finally suggested that they marriage be annulled he was trying to get her to pay him child support every month. That’s why I don’t feel the least bit sorry about Betty Broderick getting almost half a million a year in alimony and a house paid for by her ex. Dan Broderick was an adulterer and could be a jerk but at least he went to work every day provided for his family and was willing to pay his ex-wife more than enough to live on

@@zt1053 same here with 2 sisters and they're both great now. But the point I was making was the comparison of the 2 versions of this story of which the Netflix version makes betty less aggressive than the first and like most cases, there's 3 sides to every story. dan and Linda didn't deserve the death that betty imposed on them. Hope your sister is now a strong and successful role model for her children and that they're all good now.💗

I believe Betty Broderick was a very sick woman Narcissistic behaviour is a real illness. In her mind she was entitled, she was in control, and she was always right.I have had first experience of that and the moment you decide to pull away that's when hell is unleashed. When seeing that control dimensioning it tipped her over the edge. I feel empathy for all parties especially the children.

My only problem is seeing Stephen Collins in this role and knowing he was molesting children at the time. Repulsive.

Linda knew very well that Dan was a married man, she was wrong also Dan, they both started it all, they both were guilty and still guilty of committing Adultery! Too bad Betty didn't control her emotions...the only thing she had to do was to stay quiet and nice and get as much money possible from Dan from divorce, and start her life over but...
Within a year, Betty suspected he was having an affair, but Dan called her crazy and subjected her to gaslighting for years, proclaiming his innocence and suggesting she was imagining things until he finally moved out of the family home in 1985 (he later confessed to her that she had been right all along about only after he Dan messed up with her mind...He was extremely cruel to her in all aspects, the law should take that in consideration.

Even if you have 4 children with a man, even if you gave him your best years, even if he left you for a younger version, even if he was not worth your love, he is not your property. You don't own him. You dry your tears and learn how to move on. And you never do anything to hurt your children. They were both self-centered. And what a price to pay!

I can understand Betty's anger. She stood by him when he had nothing. When he made it big he replaced her with a younger beautiful secretary. The second wife literally took over her life, everything she ever was.Betty wanted some sort of control that she started harassing the new couple.A lot of couple put their kids on crossfire when they seperate. But seriously, driving car into the house, leaving vulgar messages , endangering both physical and mental well being of her own kids can't be tolerated.Anger management and therapy should be mandatory in 'restraining order' cases. She should have just moved on,no matter how painful and hatful the situation was.
Like they said in the movie, she is not the first wife who was replaced by a young secretary and she won't be the last. Its not pretty, it's not fair, but heck that's life.

Shortly afterwards died of heart attack. We met and became friends. She tried her stunts with me then her son told me how she used to manipulate and how ungrateful she was to his dad. Always complaining and never satisfied regardless of what he did for her. So happy I moved too far away for her to bother me now. They don't see or acknowledge their flaws, really sad.

I understand it hurts to watch another woman enjoy the fruits of your labour. She could have made it with counselling and maybe a break somewhere. She was early 40s with her eldest kids already college age. She had plenty of time to recover and even find love again. And in my culture family would have moved in with you for support. It really helps. Anyway I feel sorry for the kids but its in the past now. I hope theyve made their peace.

As always, there are two sides to every story! From the beginning, when confronted by Betty about his affair with Linda, Dan denied it.! When Dan told her he was leaving, Betty's behavior became erratic and agressive. Dan served her with divorce papers after she entered his home and smeared cake over his bed, walls, etc. She returned to his home and broke furniture, dishes, and pictures. In the divorce settlement she was awarded $16,000 per month, but this did not satisfy her, nothing seemed to satisfy her! she fought about the money, the house, etc., But it was really about the betrayal! She was jealous of Linda because she had taken over her life with Dan. I think, given her behavior, Dan tried to deal with Betty as best he could, The more outrageous her behavior, and the more out of control she became, the more he reacted! His was the cool head! With his high profile and legal expertise, he had the edge. He fined her for leaving vulgar messages on his answering machine, which by the way, the children heard, and he was awarded custody of the children because of her unstableness.During this long drawn out battle with Dan, was she thinking about what effect her behavior was having on the children? Betty was a smart, attractive, woman, who could have made a life for herself without Dan Broderick, but unfortunately, to her detriment, she could not let go! Every woman who has experienced a similar situation, can identify with Betty's anger and bitterness, but she carried things too far. I think she intentionally killed Dan and Linda, for which she shows no remorse, and the jury got it right the second time, and she is now paying the ultimate price.

I meant that irrespective of the real outcome of sale, and the television show, the property is NOW (30+ years later) worth twice* what she thought was fair, etc. The comment had not bearing on her judgement, but I believe, by coincidence, my comment was complementary with her judgement of property values--including her Coral Reef house.
