I have watched this film so many times. I saw it when it was released at the cinema and had to hold back tears. Before the release of the film their was a bit of criticism in the reviews not just on Redford's age but that Dennis was much younger in reality and that he had an English accent. Initially Sydney tried Redford performing with an English accent but it didn't work. In the end, regardless of any criticism, this was a brilliant film that I still cherish and remember to this day. In fact, years after I saw it I was in Africa and when I was in Nairobi I went to the town called 'Karen' and the house is still there where Karen Blixen lived.
I first saw it at the cinema too and have also watched many times on d.v.d. We had a coffee farm at the time so the opening scene blew us away from the start. My favorite story of all time.
You know its Hollywood when a tracker has a gun!! The guides books always said the most dangerous situation with a wounded animal was a bushman or a tracker with a gun not the animal..
That's Steven Spielberg for you. Even though this was in the MOVIE MAKING business, it happened to me in real life. I had shot a charging wild boar, as a teenager in India, with my .470 NE in an unbelievable situation. It was wounded and resting under some bushes. I had asked that villager to go and throw a few rocks to flush it out. It came out charging with scary grunts and bristles on its neck line were raised. I shot it at all most point blank range. The 500 grain S N hit it in between the eyes...its head going down between its front feet and it was pushed back twice the length of its body. Once I recovered from the dizzy spin of the recoil I felt something oozing out from my nose. I wiped it and saw....blood from the recoil of the Elephant gun ! How did it ever occur to Steven Spielberg to make that a part of the scene after the shooting 🤔.
@@humwatani371 I spent time in India and East Africa so I am familiar with the movie and what you talk about. I believe your experience from the recoil is a lot more common than most people let on.
