I love Tintin but was only able to read a few of them growing up. I'm so happy that I can get all of them (in the same format from back then too) in one shot!
I honestly never gave Tintin a second thought until i started watching this channel and seeing your enthusiasm for the series m still very new to it all but Herge's art alone is phenomenal ! And as a fan of comics here in America & Manga in Japan its great being exposed to European comics as we dont emphasize them much if not at all here in the states ! Mostly Manga or regular comics , so thanks !
That is just wonderful to hear! Although I was sure my love for the Tintin library of adventures was a nostalgic bond for the most, given I had grown up reading them, many many childhood loves have not stood the test of time. Tintin still charms and impresses after all these years, so I'm confident that you will find at least some aspects to appreciate!
You are right about the emphasis of American comics and Manga here in the States. When I was growing up I lived over seas for a few years and wad exposed to Tintin. It was wonderful and they are still fun now. Try Tintin in America it will have some familiar things in it and it's fun to see our country in the 1920's through an European perspective. Enjoy!
Thank you! And re: The Black Island, I love it too! Have you checked out my other Tintin videos? It appears in a couple of them 😁 The full Tintin Playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLf2B7UoR9NKW6ok_iGAZlXbe9YUdQWRDP
Figured I’d get a complete set first to pair with the few hardcovers I own, so I got the full-size anniversary and the ugly new Congo edition just for completionism. Holding out for a full-size hardcover collection for the 100 year anniversary! Subbed, looking forward to diving into your other videos.
@@pope7 Welcome to the channel and I hope you find plenty to enjoy here! Check out the various playlists on our channel page ( ruclips.net/user/FortheLoveofComicsplaylists ); I always think that's a good way to explore 😁
That's awesome! I'm sixteen. I think I started reading this series when I was around 12. It's one of my favourite comic series. Tintin: The Blue Lotus is probably my favourite.
Thanks for this video. Helped me pull the trigger on ordering this boxset. I live in the US and loved Tintin due to the animated series in the early 90s but have yet to pick up the series. It's always been a goal of mine to do so but the sheer volume of books was a hindrance. Glad this set exists and glad you made the video! Thanks !
Been a fan of Tintin for many years. Ever since I watched ur video of this wonderful collection I was saving up to get this beauty and I just ordered one for myself. Thank u for this and all the other videos. 👍
@@ftloc Yup, guessed it right. 😉Had it on my wish list for a very long time. Grabbed it for 5.4K with extra discount. I think it's a steal considering it goes for 8 maybe 9K in the bookstores.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it! Check out our entire playlist of Tintin related videos if interested! ruclips.net/p/PLf2B7UoR9NKW6ok_iGAZlXbe9YUdQWRDP Cheers!
Mine were the same way - second hand or otherwise worn to raggedy form over the decades. I've slowly 'replaced' them and filled gaps in the collection with the Egmont hardcovers, but the old albums still sit on the shelf next to them! 😁
@@ftloc such a late response but I just saw this comment;; I actually bought this to finally own my personal copy of all the volumes! I grew up reading them in my uncle’s house in mumbai during annual visits and sorely missed them when I came back to canada. not only do I finally have them and can read all the volumes whenever I want but it brings back so many memories of reading the books as a child in india 🤍
I recently discovered my first Tintin comic i.e The lake of Sharks. I know it isn't by Hergé but that's where I became a fan. Looked up online for a collection and it brought me to your video. Great work comrade.
You're in for a real treat and of one is going to read Lake of Sharks, I think it's a great idea to start with it and therefore only get better from there on. Also, it's not a bad story at all, just not Herge or Herge studios, as you say. I'm so glad you've enjoyed what you've seen of this channel and I'd love to know what you think of the other videos here if you get a chance to check them out! Cheers!
@@ftloc Yes, I've watched quite a lot of ur videos and love the quality of your content, everything so eloquently described. I see you also have Nausicaä boxset with you. Hoping you could cover more Mangas as well, like the works of Naoki Urasawa or Takehiko Inoue.
I subscribed because of this video. I started watching your channel because of your collection series and absolute sandman color comparison, but so far you're the only comic channel I've seen talk about tintin. I grew up with tintin, so it's cool to see it get some attention on RUclips. I hope they make another animated movie someday.
That's +1 for the comparison and I'll start planning it right away (to keep the anniversary and birthday celebrations going). And yes, if you don;t have any Tintin, this is just perfect for you!
Wow! I’m rediscovering tintin books now as an adult. I used to watch tin tin animated series when i was a teenager. Unfortunately this box set is unavailable here in Brazil. Thanks for your review 😄
Greetings from India! The box becomes available and unavailable here at different time, but I think it's definitely still in print. So keep an eye out, you never know! Are the individual volumes available in Brazil?
Nice! I have this too. Never read TinTin before but it's considered essential, so I got this handsome box-set on sale: looking forward to devouring it!
I'm very curious to know how this series works as a brand new read in the 21st Century for folks. While I think it is an incredibly accomplished series, I do think nostalgia and childhood attachments play a huge role in how fans like me feel about it, so it'll be fascinating to know if it works similarly or not for others unburdened by such feelings!
Had read most of the Tintins in the local library when I was 14. COP and 7CB are my favorites. Then got pdfs of all 24 books. Purchased only 2 comics: Black Island, and Ottokar. Although quality of some scans is not great, it makes not much difference to me!
Lot of respect for your videos. This rabbit hole led me to learn so much about the versions of Tintin. Thanks! I was hoping you could share the isbn numbers to some of the facsimile & 1940s editions. I'd love to look for these. Also the non Tintin vids like Usagi Yojimbo is just as amazing! Love the delivery, right amount of detail and approach!
Thank you so much and I am overjoyed you are enjoying the videos so much. All suggestions, recommendations and feedback are always welcome! And that's a great idea about the ISBNs: I'll look them up and post them in the community tab as well as these comments in a few days, so check back in!
I'll keep an eye open for the numbers. I got into Usagi Yojimbo relatively recently through IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles One shots...So I am glad you have the character covered in detail. I was going to recommend you look for 'Chew' and give it a read but I noticed you have the trades of that as well. Those are some really well done books.
Greetings and thank you for your comprehensive reviews! i have a question about this collection, i read some negative reviews by German Amazon and the were all about the tiny writing/font and that one would need a " magnifier" to read some texts is that correct? i mean with all this size, is the txt really a problem? Cheers!
Thank you so much! As for the font, in English at least it is no longer the 'Hyslop' lettering that used to be in the books until the 90s. This new font is closer to the original French lettering, they say. It has a slightly italicized look to it, so it is not smaller, but it is thinner. I would have preferred the Hyslop lettering because I am very attached to that from my childhood, but I don't think the new lettering is unreadable or too small. It's just not as pretty or as bold for those making the comparison. If you are not comparing, I believe it should be just fine, I hope that helps!
I can never get enough of the red in the "Red Lotus" cover! Glad to see it getting a mention on the internet :) BTW have you seen the smaller TinTin softcovers? These are roughly as big (or small) as the 3-in-1 hardcovers. And while they cover just a single story/adventure, there is a handful of bonus content and fun contextual info about said story/adventure towards the end. Personally have (almost) all of the larger softcover volumes, but I am just a sucker for bonus content. Especially when it is about TinTin :D
I have not seen these bonus-content softcovers but now I really want to take a look! Thanks for the tip, And yes, that red is something, isn't it? Less immediately arresting, yet equally evocative for me, is the green of the Seven Crystal Balls, which I missed mentioning in this video!
Nostalgia ❤ It's My most favorite cartoon in the world being a 90's kid I always admire to watch it till date. Thanks for sharing this vid. I will definitely buy this ❤ How can i get it in india ?🇮🇳
Glad you liked the video - from comments by others, it seems that this may now be out of print, unfortunately. I think it was a limited time thing just for the 90th anniversary and may not be reprinted. I still have hopes for a hardcover box set though, and of course the individual books are all available separately quite easily! Cheers!
Thank you; so glad you liked it! Re the font, it is not small per se; it is definitely of larger size than the smaller box sets have. However, it *is* different from the thicker Hyslop lettering the English translations used all the way into the 90s. This means the font here is thinner than what some people are used to, and resembles italics. This makes it closer to the original French lettering but does stick out to some who have grown up with Tintin as relatively harder to read. I hope that helps!
Hi. A new collection of tintin books are being released on the Amazon uk website on October 1st. Do you know anything about that? If you do, will the books be large or small?
I just added the link below or above. It's for the US Amazon. The original description of this item was misleading and copied from another Tintin collection. The current description might be incorrect as well.
Some things don't make sense. According to the size description, it's supposed to be a small collected edition. But, they are already available and in stock. As you know, a paperback collection was released recently. This might be the hardback version. But, there is no current evidence to prove this.
this set looks really well and I like that they left the albums as is in size and cover art, etc...but...Tintin in Congo is missing and that spoils the entire set for me a little unfortunately. I have all albums seperate so I do own Congo---maybe I will still buy the set once the price is down a bit
Growing up, I never knew of Congo ( or Soviets) so in some ways I think of the colour, redrawn editions as almost a different collection than all the originals. If love to see a complete, originals box set one day!
Great news! I have all the Tintin in Portuguese but as a big fan I obviously don’t, I mean, I TOTTALLY need a box set! So, there’s that box and the same but I’m Hardcover? Do you have links or ISBNs for both, please? Thanks! Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much. And I know what you mean - I am feeling the NEED for this box set too! 😋 The hardcover set is smaller in size and contains three adventures per volume. I'll get to working on a comparison soon and have it up - watch this space. In the meantime, you can find a couple of affiliate links for this box in the video description, so that should get you the ISBN. Enjoy!
@@DrumondArt Oh yes, that was my first reaction too! But honestly, 1) it would be impractical given how much that would weigh, negating one advantage of boxsets (the ability to transport all volumes together) and 2) it really is the paperback that needs the protection afforded by the slipcase on a shelf. Given how thin they are, the paperbacks from my childhood have all gotten pretty ragged due to years of standing/stacking, while my hardcovers (albeit new) seem to be holding up fine with no stress on their covers and spines. Still, a hardcover box set is probably the epitome of a celebratory edition for people like you and me, so I completely share your instinct!
Apparently there are even two different hardcover sets. One mostly red and one mostly blue. But the books have the same smaller size. One does seem to have 2 stories less but other bonus stuff. www.amazon.com/Complete-Adventures-Tintin-Compact-Editions/dp/1405278455/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=tintin+box+set&qid=1558568053&s=gateway&sr=8-2 and www.amazon.com/Adventures-Tintin-Collectors-Gift-Set/dp/0316006688/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=tintin+box+set&qid=1558568100&s=gateway&sr=8-4
So tempted to get this box set, I have all the hardback volumes but always regretted not getting the single editions, the volumes artwork is a lot smaller. Not sure my wife will be ok with me splashing out on exactly the same stories again though!
I know how you feel - I didn't buy this set myself, having all the books already, but was sorely tempted! The larger size is definitely the way to go with the series in my opinion, but I do like hardcovers too, which is why I have the full-size, non-boxed, hardcovers that I bought one by one. Do you have the option to sell off your current set if you did decide to go for an 'upgrade'? Also, I heard (unconfirmed) rumours that there may be a full sized hardcover box set within the next couple of years, so you may want to hold off for that, even-more-justifiable, option?
@@ftloc oh wow that sounds perfect, thanks for the heads up! I really love the Tintin companion so it's nice to refer to the individual books rather than the volumes.
Sir ye tintin set colour pages main milta hai kya, aur ye congo vala version kisi bhi tintin set main nahi milta aisa kyu? Aur price aur aapne kaha se liya?
Only Tintin in the Land of the Soviets is black-and-white, all others are in colour. Congo is considered racist and the depictions of Africa, Africans, and a lot of the behaviour, is objectionable. So I think it is kept as an academic/ study edition, as part of comics history but not to be taken as a regular/ popular read. That's just my theory though. This set I borrowed but it is available on Amazon India.
hey, I was thinking of getting the hardcover small collection because its more affordable and easy to read, but my father, a long time Tintin fan, is saying that I should save up more for full size. I already have about 4 tintin books in full size, so what do you think I should get? Hardcover 3 in 1 or regular?
As much as I love the hardcover sets (and I have a separate video on two of those) , I would have to agree with your dad and say full size is the way to go! You can even collect the full size hardcovers one at a time if you want that extra HC goodness! 😁
@@ftloc Anyway, I bought the full size paperback and it looks really nice. Im happy I went with this instead of the hardcovers. It seemed to be available till just a few months ago, but I just checked the link and it does seem to have disappeared! I can still see it available in Europe and Asia, so maybe it's just a temporary stock issue in the USA? I'll see if I can find out more.
Great editing chops, just so professional, i was actually looking for this boxset for cheap even asked once inthe Facebook group but noone has it for sale.will have to get it next time its on sale( iam more Of an asterix fan than tintin 😋)
Thank you so much; learning editing is so tough but rewarding! I used to switch back and forth in my loyalties between the two 'big Eurocomics' all my life. At first I loved Tintin, then in my early teens I was all snooty about how the history and the puns made Asterix superior, then a reread of Tintin sort of shook me awake to the mastery of the form that Herge showed and developed...These days I don't need to rank them against each other, but I always remember a snarky line I once read - 'There are two kinds of people in the world: those who think Tintin is better than Asterix and those who *know* Tintin is better than Asterix' 😋
Going to get this for my dad for Christmas, what would you say is a good price for this collection? I’ve seen a couple sites list it for £100 which seems fair, others have it up for like £180 though but they seem identical, are just some companies being greedy or are there slightly different versions out there?
As a comics fan who’s only ever seen the cartoon, movie, and Indiana Jones, I feel like I should read these. I generally prefer hardcovers but I prefer the larger format here.
You definitely should check it out (and let me know what you think of it!). Also, while this box set only contains paperbacks, there are hardcover editions of the same size available for each book. They're just not collected in a box (yet).
Hello, Can you confirm if all 23 books in this set have the original Hyslop font? The new “digital” font that Egmont is publishing the Tintin books with is absolutely terrible and distracting. It takes away from the immersiveness that Hyslop brought with his handwriting. Please let me and others here know so we can buy this set too (of course, by using your channel’s link).
No, unfortunately that 'original' (English translation) font by Hyslop is apparently copyrighted/owned by Moulinsart, I think, and there seems to be some issue(s?) in using it. This box is not a new edition, in any case, but just the all-in-one packaging of the existing Egmont full-size volumes, so they they too feature the 'new' font ('new' for people my age; I just learned this has now been around for a while). It is apparently based on the original French lettering, although again this could be my bad memory mixing things up. I know there are strong feelings about this, and I have my own opinions, but that's probably a different, nerdy video that nobody wants to watch! 😀 Short answer: it's just the same new font as the albums have individually.
For the Love of Comics thank you for the information. It is sad that this does not contain the original Hyslop font. Sadly, the history is lost, just like Tintin in Congo.
Thank you so much for letting me know. One more question: do you think the Egmont print is equivalent to the Little, Brown publishing print. I am reading that the Little, Brown version is more common in the USA but I don't know if there is a quality difference
hi, I really wish you could have given a sneak peak inside some of the erstwhile B&W editions....Tintin in America and The Land of Soviets were originally in B&W, but I believe they are now in colour, however, it is not explicit from your video.
Hi, this box set has only the modern, coloured versions, in paperback. I have several other Tintin videos on various editions and collections. You can find the full playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLf2B7UoR9NKW6ok_iGAZlXbe9YUdQWRDP and this will have a separate video on the Black and White version of Tintin in America, and a video on a small box set I picked up that has all 9 of the original black and white comics as well. I hope you enjoy them and let me know if you have any trouble finding them!
Thanks for the video as a fellow Tintin lover and fan since my childhood. Sadly however this boxset edition has replaced the original Hyslop font with some new bland italic fonts that has none of the original's comic book sensibility or personality. Please highlight that in your next video Thanks again 🙏
Well, I do mention here that my ideal box would be a hardcover set with the Hyslop lettering. But that lettering was replaced many years ago, not specifically in this box. This box just collects together the existing editions, which - yes, unfortunately - use that thin computer font 😢
@@ftloc that's true thankfully Amazon still sells the 1970s Methuen editions (packaged as Little Brown in the US) in the original font. I am from Kolkata (Calcutta then) .....(still a)child of the 70s and a Tintin fan forever!!! .....😀😊
Thanks so much! As someone who doesn't really know completely what they're doing with video, it's great to have some feedback on what works and what doesn't! I hope you get to enjoy some of my other videos as well!
Loved Tintin since I was a kid, grew up reading the books in Swedish and watching the 90s cartoon. My favorite has to be The Seven Crystal Balls; it plays out almost like a horror story with the suspense of the seven explorers getting attacked one by one, and that creepy mummy and the clairvoyant in the beginning. Also one of the few that takes place entirely in Belgium. What do you think of it?
Kickzillah I love the Seven Crystal Balls and I completely agree with you on the creepy, eerie sense of dread that permeates it. That sequence of all the explorers in the hospital too is a wonderfully chilling one! Have you checked out my ‘My Favorite Tintin’ video on this channel, and the comments on it?
@@ftloc Your personal top 6 video, you mean? Yes I've seen it. You mention that you dislike the climax with the eclipse in Prisoners of the Sun, and I agree on that. Even Hergé admitted it was strange that a society based on the sun would have no knowledge of its cycles. I still think it's a solid adventure and a very underrated album. There's the whole thrilling part with the mysterious boat, and the train sequence, and the vivid exploration of the mountains and jungles. And of course the incredible discovery of the hidden Inca civilisation, behind the waterfall cave. In my opinion the most adventurous of all the books, it features all Tintin is about. By the way, you mentioned that you liked the inclusion of India in Tintin in Tibet. What do you think of the depiction of India in Cigars of the Pharaoh?
@@kickzillah3017 You've just made me want to re-read Prisoners immediately! And the Maharajah-centered Cigars/Blue Lotus mentions of India were a lot more 'abstract' and removed for me than the ones in Tibet. I think they all have that shade of 'exoticization' but Tibet (outside of the stretch convertible taxi!) seemed a lot more in my world than the others.
Should i get a hardcover or single issue set ? Coz almost they are priced same and offer same things ? Or should we buy single issues *24 ? Price is for me
If you want the box, you will need to get the paperbacks because a full-sized hardcovers box doesn't exist (yet). If you don't *have* to have the box, you could go for the hardcovers individually, which is what I personally chose to do.
Other than the first adventure - Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, which was never coloured or redrawn - all the other adventures are in the colourized, redrawn (modern) forms in this set. Hope that helps!
regarding alpha art my friend have a part with its complete version till end i think even he show it to me but it was in pdf format i dont remember i was finding last week and i asked him for alpha art he said that he lost it
Yes, apparently there are a couple of unofficially completed versions of it, most famously by Yves Rodier, as a tribute. It doesn't quite feel like Tintin, but that could be just nostalgia talking...
Yes, Methuen offered hardcovers in full album size in the 70's and the 80's and today there are hardcover versions of the full albums published by Egmont (who also publish these full sized paperbacks). They're just not in a box set (yet), but you can see the modern Egmont hardcovers in my overview of 22 albums here: ruclips.net/video/KgaiiEi0pGw/видео.html
@@ftloc Awesome thanks for your reply, I got through all of your Tintin videos on my coffee breaks at work. Its so awesome to see somebody else who loves Tintin so much. Youre knowledge on the character far outweighs mine though.
@@RoboticDragon haha, I've just read the books a lot; the real Tintinologists out there blow my mind with the depth of their knowledge... But I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos! Cheers!
There's no equivalent box set in hardcover (in English) but the individual books are available in hardcover in the same size, yes. The hardcover box sets that do exist are the ones I show in this video: ruclips.net/video/mPstqOAL3RA/видео.html I hope that helps!
Yes, there are same-size same-cover hardcover editions for all of these. You can see a bunch of them in a couple of my other videos: An Overview of 22 Albums (ruclips.net/video/KgaiiEi0pGw/видео.html) and Shelf Seven, where the Tintins start around the 16 minute mark (ruclips.net/video/F8JQp2SfyGw/видео.html) Hope that helps!
I know this is only semi-related, but have you ever heard of Teesside Tintin? It's basically a fandub the 90's Tintin cartoon but based on life in Middlesbrough. Would you say it's good?
Haha oh dear, I suppose you're right... Yes, they are all the modern, colour versions. I do mention this is just a repackaging of the existing Egmont editions which - other than Soviets and Alph Art (which I do open here)- - are all only in colour. I have other videos on the albums themselves as well as the series in general, so this video was about the box presentation of those instead of the books themselves, if that makes sense. Still, a valid point and one I've generally kept in mind for subsequent videos. Cheers!
They're the exact same books as the common Egmont paperbacks, just boxed together. So, very decent quality, but the new font instead of the old Hyslop lettering, if that matters to you.
I'm sure it will be back, it's way too popular not to have in print and I believe it has been reprinted a couple of times already (the box that is, the albums are always in print)
If I get into all the Tintin related artists, including those responsible for some of my favourite moments and images from the series, it would be an hour-long video! So many people, so little time! 😁
This is the video which i actually needed today. Suddenly in the morning today i thought to collect all the Tintin comics, in their best available format. I had read few in my childhood, but dont have any with me now. I checked Amazon and Flipkart and i was really confused about which one to buy as there are many options available. Hindi edition is my preference but it is not available in hardbound cover and glossy paper. Most of the single issues available from Om Book International in hindi, but are paperback editions, and i am not sure is the cover and paper are of good quality or not. I am even ok with english editions also, which are there in red and grey boxes, but the size is smaller. That yellow anniversary box is best i think with large size and glossy paper..Only problem is that it is not available in hard cover. If you have any idea where can i buy single issues in large size with hardbound cover in glossy paper..please reply..it will be bonus if its coming in a collectors box.
You can buy the albums in full sized hardcover as I have done, but as you say, there is no box set of those. If you know a printer/binder, or even a local carpenter, maybe you could explore getting a custom box built after getting all the books? (that is an idea that came to me 😋) I had heard a rumour about Egmont bringing out a hardcover box set in 2021, but who knows if that was ever realistic and what the situation is now.
For the Love of Comics thanks a lot for the reply. This is good idea. I checked on Amazon, single issue are there in hardcover and full size. But they are 4x costly compared to Om Publication (800 vs 200). Is it worth to buy them over those from Om Book Publication?
@@rahulsony569 I have never actually held one of those Om Kidz editions in my hand so I can't speak for the production quality (or the translation) but 200 seems like a bargain price, of course. The English editions have a 400-paperback 800 hardback sort of average distinction, which is also a lot, but I bought two or three a month until I had them all in hardcover. I just think they will last forever, properly taken care of, in hardcover whereas all the paperbacks from my childhood have fallen apart with re-reading. So I guess it may also depend on if you want to only have them for yourself or are also thinking of your kids or other family members enjoying them?
For the Love of Comics Understand your point. Hardcover is the best option anyways, despite being costly. I am a collector and want to buy best. Do you know if the Hindi version was ever published in hardcover? I didn’t see that yet.
For the Love of Comics I want my two daughters to read comics as well. One is too young to read now. The elder one is reading ACK. I myself has made one comics of Raj Comics famous character Nagraj. Have a look at the same when you have time. Link drive.google.com/file/d/1hZ3KsDW7LyhKccDj-8Z1eSCVd6LaMg8E/view?usp=drivesdk
Tintin in the Congo is not published by Egmont, only Casterman, at least in English. A long time ago, there was a box set of small 3-in-1 hardcovers from Egmont that contained Congo, but the latest ones (both the 3-in-1 smaller HCs and this full-sized paperbacks set) no longer have them. If you check out my 'Tintin: Battle of the Box Sets' video, you'll find some interesting discussion in the comments on this. Cheers!
@@ftloc In my personal opinion, the treatment of animals in the Congo adventure is not very nice. This may be the reason why the book was not published. Casterman edition is published in Turkey. I will also watch the video you mentioned, thanks...
Indeed - the casual cruelty and violence towards animals, the pro-colonial outlook, and - most of all - the problematic and offensive-to-us depiction of Africans are all reasons why Congo is only available as a collector's item from Casterman instead of a general/new/young readership that Egmont is seeing as their audience.
I have the starting 15 paperbacks of tintin including ( tintin in congo ) . And i started reading tintin when i was in 5 grade which my father gave ne on my birthday as he himself used to read tintin in his childhood . Today i am 15 years old and bought myself tintin and the picaros for my birthday
Happy birthday! May 22 is also Herge's birthday, as you know, and Picaros (one of my all time favourite stories) is a great way to celebrate. Have a wonderful time with Alcazar! 😀
Thanks so much; so glad you like this channel. Unfortunately I wouldn't know specifically about Sri Lanka but this set is quite easily available here on online bookstores like Amazon India; perhaps the same would be the case in Sri Lanka?
im oddly kind of glad tintin in the congo is not included as even when i was a child it was considered a grey area, the main issue is that herge himself was not a fan of this book, as he wanted tintin to be more aimed at children.
I agree with you. It sticks out unpleasantly compared to the rest of the series for new and young readers. I'm glad it is available elsewhere, but am fine with being left out of a collection-of-existing-editions box like this. A collector's/ scholars box of original facsimiles, on the other hand, would be a different matter.

I love Tintin but was only able to read a few of them growing up. I'm so happy that I can get all of them (in the same format from back then too) in one shot!
Sounds like this box is made for you ! 😁
Enjoy!
Loved The Black isle, not only set in Britain but the artwork so nostalgic,
Thanks for posting, love your enthusiasm

So glad you enjoyed it, and thank you!
Much appreciation for these videos, you did the best job quickly letting me gauge the pros and cons of these sets! Thank you.
Thank you and that's so great to hear! Which set did you decide on, this big one?
Figured I’d get a complete set first to pair with the few hardcovers I own, so I got the full-size anniversary and the ugly new Congo edition just for completionism. I love the blue lotus. My favourite part is when TinTin Acts like a Japanese coronal

Thanks !

Tintin is one of my all-time favourites. Really love the cleanliness of this box, my Tintins are all random books bought second hand over the years!
Mine were the same way - second hand or otherwise worn to raggedy form over the decades. I've slowly 'replaced' them and filled gaps in the collection with the Egmont hardcovers, but the old albums still sit on the shelf next to them! 😁
Beautiful collection and very enthusiastic person I love what you’re doing keep inspiring people and specially young generation audience ❤️

Dude, you made me watch the entire Tin Tin cartoon series :D
Haha glad to hear that! I'm sure you had a good time, right?
i had one of the books cigar of the pharaoh something like that when i was 7 years old, i used to love reading them
See if they still hold up if you revisit them!
this is exactly what I wanted to see before I bought my own version so thank you so much! 🤍
Glad I could help! Are you going to be reading for the first time or revisiting the series?
Definitely! Keep a watch out for more manga very soon, and the Nausicaa set is long overdue for a video as well! 😁
I love all of them
A perfectly viable choice! 😁
I subscribed because of this video. I started watching your channel because of your collection series and absolute sandman color comparison, but so far you're the only comic channel I've seen talk about tintin. I grew up with tintin, so it's cool to see it get some attention on RUclips. I hope they make another animated movie someday.

Oh great snakes 🤩
Blistering barnacles!
@@ftloc True. There's nothing nostalgic about that art though! Beautiful to flip through
Very nice collection you have 👌👌👌
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the channel, which is all about sharing my favourites with you! 😁
Tintin! Great memories.
Indeed! And they hold up really well too! 😁
Greetings and thank you for your comprehensive reviews!
i have a question about this collection, i read some negative reviews by German Amazon and the were all about the tiny writing/font and that one would need a " magnifier" to read some texts
is that correct? i mean with all this size, is the txt really a problem?
@@ftloc many thank for the fast reply, definitely helpful!
best regards!
Beautiful, I must get it, I want that unfinished book
I hope I helped with the decision! 😋
@@ftloc I wouldn't have known about it if it wasn't for your video! Thanks
Thanks for the tip,
And yes, that red is something, isn't it?
Less immediately arresting, yet equally evocative for me, is the green of the Seven Crystal Balls, which I missed mentioning in this video!
Nostalgia ❤ It's My most favorite cartoon in the world being a 90's kid I always admire to watch it till date. Thanks for sharing this vid. I will definitely buy this ❤
How can i get it in india ?🇮🇳
Glad you liked the video - from comments by others, it seems that this may now be out of print, unfortunately. I think it was a limited time thing just for the 90th anniversary and may not be reprinted. I still have hopes for a hardcover box set though, and of course the individual books are all available separately quite easily! Cheers!
@@ftloc oh thanks for replying... I will definitely buy it 💕
It's available on Amazon for 7k
Beautiful !!!
👍🏼
I love tintin
As do I!
Thanks for making this video. One question: is the font size small? Hard to read?
Thank you; so glad you liked it!
Re the font, it is not small per se; it is definitely of larger size than the smaller box sets have. However, it *is* different from the thicker Hyslop lettering the English translations used all the way into the 90s. This means the font here is thinner than what some people are used to, and resembles italics. This makes it closer to the original French lettering but does stick out to some who have grown up with Tintin as relatively harder to read. I hope that helps!
Someone landed the set (new) for $200 Aust 🇦🇺 "on sale" including postage. Arrived today! Can't wait to read them.😀👍
'someone' is very lucky indeed! 😁
Hi. A new collection of tintin books are being released on the Amazon uk website on October 1st. Do you know anything about that? If you do, will the books be large or small?
Do you have a link for this new collection? I can't seem to find it
www.amazon.com/Adventures-Tintin-Complete-Collection/dp/0316495042/ref=sr_1_31?crid=2FGQN53C38FEV&keywords=tintin+collection+complete&qid=1568797498&s=gateway&sprefix=tintin+collection+c%2Caps%2C205&sr=8-31
Also, the price is much higher than the price for a small collected edition or the recent paperback edition.
this set looks really well and I like that they left the albums as is in size and cover art, etc...but...Tintin in Congo is missing and that spoils the entire set for me a little unfortunately.
Nice. I want this.
Nice editing on this one :)
Thank you so much; glad you enjoyed it!
And I have to admit I want it too. Shameful GREED!
The hardcover set is smaller in size and contains three adventures per volume. I'll get to working on a comparison soon and have it up - watch this space. In the meantime, you can find a couple of affiliate links for this box in the video description, so that should get you the ISBN.
Enjoy!
For the Love of Comics Thank you! Sad the HC edition is not oversized like this one.

The Magnificent Steiner Exactly what I just found out too. I’m hoping to borrow both those sets to do a three way comparison! Watch this space! 😀

@@ftloc that is tru i keep going between tintin and asterixbut finally settled on asterix bcoz of its puns and wit and how good itd translated

Going to get this for my dad for Christmas, what would you say is a good price for this collection? I’ve seen a couple sites list it for £100 which seems fair, others have it up for like £180 though but they seem identical, are just some companies being greedy or are there slightly different versions out there?
As far as I know there's only one version and I agree with you, 100 is fair enough, anything higher seems like scalping.

Hello,
Can you confirm if all 23 books in this set have the original Hyslop font?
We will see the Hyslop font, or something very close, back eventually. It's not lost, just temporarily misplaced. 😀
can you tell me the dimensions of the individual book in this set?
The're the 'regular' album size - 8.8 x 11.9 inches
Thank you so much for letting me know. One more question: do you think the Egmont print is equivalent to the Little, Brown publishing print. I am reading that the Little, Brown version is more common in the USA but I don't know if there is a quality difference
@@bionerdy not that I know of. Every Little Brown book I've seen, including those giant facsimiles, seem exactly as high quality as the Egmont ones.
hi, I really wish you could have given a sneak peak inside some of the erstwhile B&W editions....Tintin in America and The Land of Soviets were originally in B&W, but I believe they are now in colour, however, it is not explicit from your video.
Hi, this box set has only the modern, coloured versions, in paperback.
I have several other Tintin videos on various editions and collections. You can find the full playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLf2B7UoR9NKW6ok_iGAZlXbe9YUdQWRDP
and this will have a separate video on the Black and White version of Tintin in America, and a video on a small box set I picked up that has all 9 of the original black and white comics as well. I hope you enjoy them and let me know if you have any trouble finding them!
90 Years of The Adventures of Tintin (1929-2019)
Thanks for the video as a fellow Tintin lover and fan since my childhood. Sadly however this boxset edition has replaced the original Hyslop font with some new bland italic fonts that has none of the original's comic book sensibility or personality. Please highlight that in your next video
Thanks again 🙏
Well, I do mention here that my ideal box would be a hardcover set with the Hyslop lettering.
But that lettering was replaced many years ago, not specifically in this box. This box just collects together the existing editions, which - yes, unfortunately - use that thin computer font 😢
@@ftloc that's true thankfully Amazon still sells the 1970s Methuen editions (packaged as Little Brown in the US) in the original font. I am from Kolkata (Calcutta then) .....(still a)child of the 70s and a Tintin fan forever!!! .....😀😊
Wonderful and informative video.
Love how it’s in widescreen, very cinematic and professional looking.
Great job!
Thanks so much! As someone who doesn't really know completely what they're doing with video, it's great to have some feedback on what works and what doesn't! I hope you get to enjoy some of my other videos as well!
For the Love of Comics I have, all your videos are very good.
That drawing of Tintin in the car is from the album "Cigars of Pharaoh"
Is this the only way to get paperback Tintin in Alph Art, as most of mine are paperback and I don’t fancy buying the 2019 collection.
I believe the Alph Art book is separately available to buy, and in paperback.
For the Love of Comics Is it by Egmont as I want them to look the same when I own them all.
Is all the books are black and white only?
Other than _Soviets_ , they are all in colour.
@@ftloc ok
Very big thank you
I am excited for my birthday gift to choose from now
😀
Can you please reply Tintin Anniversary yellow box set books all inside are colorful pages? Thanks
Other than the first adventure - Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, which was never coloured or redrawn - all the other adventures are in the colourized, redrawn (modern) forms in this set. Hope that helps!
@@ftloc Thank you very much for clarification
regarding alpha art my friend have a part with its complete version till end i think even he show it to me but it was in pdf format i dont remember i was finding last week and i asked him for alpha art he said that he lost it
Yes, apparently there are a couple of unofficially completed versions of it, most famously by Yves Rodier, as a tribute. It doesn't quite feel like Tintin, but that could be just nostalgia talking...
Aside from Casterman editions, have these ever been hardcover in this size before?
Cheers!
where is the books printed? is it Slovenia?
Printed in China, they say.
Well done
so the hardcover version is basically the same?
There's no equivalent box set in hardcover (in English) but the individual books are available in hardcover in the same size, yes. The hardcover box sets that do exist are the ones I show in this video: ruclips.net/video/mPstqOAL3RA/видео.html
I hope that helps!
Are there hardcovers in this size for Tintin?
Yes, there are same-size same-cover hardcover editions for all of these. You can see a bunch of them in a couple of my other videos: An Overview of 22 Albums (ruclips.net/video/KgaiiEi0pGw/видео.html) and Shelf Seven, where the Tintins start around the 16 minute mark (ruclips.net/video/F8JQp2SfyGw/видео.html)
Hope that helps!
@@ftloc are they available in amazon.in
Yes, they are
I know this is only semi-related, but have you ever heard of Teesside Tintin? It's basically a fandub the 90's Tintin cartoon but based on life in Middlesbrough. Would you say it's good?
Wow, I've never heard of that, but I'm intrigued!
So are all of the normal volumes in colour??? It'd have been nice if you could've at least OPENED ONE PAGE.
Cheers!
@@ftloc okay thanks.
nicetintinbook
It's a lovely box!
Hi, I am looking for Tintin comic DVD. Can anyone please guide me where I can get one?
It's available on BLU RAY also
You can import it from Amazon UK or US
Delightful vid
Thanks; so glad you liked it!
awesome
Thank you!
bought the one we got in germany back then and we got all 24 Albums
Nice! Are they paperback or hardcover, just out of curiosity?
@@ftloc Hardcover box
What about the quality of Printing?
They're the exact same books as the common Egmont paperbacks, just boxed together. So, very decent quality, but the new font instead of the old Hyslop lettering, if that matters to you.
Looks awesome seem to be sold out sadly.
I'm sure it will be back, it's way too popular not to have in print and I believe it has been reprinted a couple of times already (the box that is, the albums are always in print)
Should've mentioned something about Yves Rodier while you held that copy of Alph-Art, chief.😬
If I get into all the Tintin related artists, including those responsible for some of my favourite moments and images from the series, it would be an hour-long video! So many people, so little time! 😁
Make a vidio on The Complete Asterix Box Set
I definitely would, but first I need to buy that box! 😋
How books in the Tintin Collection??

(that is an idea that came to me 😋)
I had heard a rumour about Egmont bringing out a hardcover box set in 2021, but who knows if that was ever realistic and what the situation is now.
Isn't there a "Congo" adventure in this set? What is the reason for this?
Not interested in TinTin, but still loved this overview. Thank you!! :)
Thank *you* , so glad you liked it!
Love you sir im your big faan from srilanka 🇱🇰 please tell me please how i can get this book please help me 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks so much; so glad you like this channel. Unfortunately I wouldn't know specifically about Sri Lanka but this set is quite easily available here on online bookstores like Amazon India; perhaps the same would be the case in Sri Lanka?
tintin and unicorn i have
im oddly kind of glad tintin in the congo is not included as even when i was a child it was considered a grey area, the main issue is that herge himself was not a fan of this book, as he wanted tintin to be more aimed at children.
