Thanks for making this, I'm a gamer from the late 80s-90s, I'm old, this game reminds me with it's pixel style art. I loved the part where you showed the ability to roll like a ball "just like samus" (Metroid..I've played the OG 8-bit NES one) I don't play games much but I was so curious about this game and you video came up on the search result. Excellent work on this video!
If anyone is wondering which is better, Starbound or Terraria, I'd have to say it's a pretty even score. I mean, granted, Starbound hasn't been updated in a while, but the modding community is still active. In fact, the most massive and still actively developed mods is XL mechs and Frackin' Universe, which yes, are extremely integral to really make a better experience. And Terraria the same, with some pretty massive game expanding mods. But I'd have to lean towards Starbound being my favorite due to just . . . space. Like, I love having my spaceship, going around, dropping down, mining resources, killing the aggressive locals, discovering a travelling merchant or an entire peaceful civilization, finding treasures, upgrades, and rare equipment, you can customize your ship tile by individual tile (just make sure you have proper equipment for the vacuum of space getting in), and you can go around the galaxy not just mining planets and moons, but you can intercept hostile pirate ships and go in guns blazing. Or you can even find friendly ships, with merchants and valuable odds and ends. And with Frackin', it's basically Minecraft Create, where you have steam engines and shit to make energy for advanced machines, which not everyone likes to do, but it does eventually allow for the crafting of better equipment, and it even gives me something to fill up my base planet with, I like to decorate my battery rooms, and that's another thing I've been wanting to do, expand my ship so I can just fill it up with junk I like, because it looks good to me. And y'now, serves a purpose too. Like, sometimes I just need something made on the go, I would like my ship to have all that eventually. Or better yet, just make the ship my base. Like, I even got some radio mods, that place is fuckin' vibing right now. And of course, the base game does have bosses and quests. Granted, the bosses can be linear, and they already have an arena built, but that's the one thing I hated doing in Terraria, building arenas for bosses. And I can tell you, none of them look pretty. Because looks aren't the focus. It's quickly creating a series of platforms for avoiding deadly moon shots. You know what I do like? Pimping out my space ride. So if you like Terraria, that's fine. I have both, and I just prefer Starbound.
I got really confused when I saw you only had 582 subs lol. This is really good quality and I feel like the video was paced really well. Also reminded me Starbound existed so I might need to play that a bit again
from what i understand the under-rating comes from chucklefish's bad reputation and screwing the starbound community over circa original release. I wasn't there that's just what the internet says happened.
Honestly, this was by far one of the most entertaining 100 days videos i've seen until now. Personally, i would love to see 200 days in Starbound, even if it's just base building. You could download mods and play through them, or explore. It's been a few years since i played Starbound for the last time, maybe i should download it again
Me: After 23 days, I finally was able to make my home: A beautiful wood cabin overlooking a lake with a secret laboratory housing all the creatures I can put in there. Warm and cozy on the top with a nice kitchenette for me to do my cooking, and a cold lab beneath me that frankly is nothing but decoration that only I will see. Being a floran, I decide to add some vegetation before I start on my garden. On day 40, my garden is complete, and I even have a giant glass dome over the whole thing, and it's looking pretty nice. It's at this point where I decide I should make a little workshop to keep all of my workbenches. I upgrade my mining and I start gathering more resources, slowly building a nice and cozy looking workshop inside of a cave. On day 45, I beam up to my ship. It's broken, and I remember that there's an entire storyline that I haven't even started yet. I beam down to look for a way to fix my ship when I realize that it might be cool to build a little outpost elsewhere on the planet.
Loved the video, very nice pacing and honestly I love to see that people still enjoy Starbound! You did a great job showcasing it in the new 100 days formula and it was very nice! Eager to see what's next!
I came in with no expectation, I came out subbed. That was an awesome video, the editing and pacing was good, and somehow kept me entertained and had my attention the whole way through. One thing I'd say is that after the "here's the races" interludes were over, it did start to feel a bit monotone, so if you plan to do other videos like this one, maybe add a few more of those moments with a different vibe or tone or energy, just to keep it from being too "flat", if you catch my meaning. Great video overall, please keep it up ! I'm going to go check out the rest of your stuff now.
Great video! My *only* recommendation would be that the brief texts that flash up on screen don't stay for long enough. XD Even going back to pause so I could read them was difficult. Well done overall! I enjoyed Starbound, and didn't do any post-story stuff in it, so that was fun to see!
I wish Terraria and Starbound would have a baby. They both suffer from lack of what the other has in spades. I recently beat the Shoggoth from Frackin Universe, maybe give that a go. It was fun figuring out how to build an efficient research lab, so much so that I didn't stop until I had the strongest lazer weapon in the mod.

Dude really awesome video I legit had no idea starbound had all of this in I I've only played a couple hours and most of what I did was build a small house on the first planet and then get distracted by another game 😂 really great content though cant wait for more
Yeah it’s definitely easy to miss all the content there is to offer, you kinda have to go out of your way to find like over half the things I went over lol
I had the game for a couple of years sitting in my steam lib, and when I won a key for another one, we decided to try it out with my gf. We played through the main storyline, only the Dantalion quest remaining (the last (?) peacekeeper quest, it's quite hard so we gave up on that for now). We build a cozy home on the first planet, that includes a two story library, a storage facility (for the stuff we collected :D), crafting basement, living room etc, a zoo (for captured monsters, and for small critters) and a big fishtank. We had and still have fun with this game, it has a ton of content, maybe too much (fps drops are frequent), but you basically can play it as you want to. Exploring is a ton of fun for a long time, but sure after a while it repeats itself. Unfortunately it seems the game requires some info digging time to time as progress is hindered whit some obscure mechanic I don't remember the game had. Cool game! And really good video about the game, it was good to see how somebody else played it. :)
Playing Starbound with my friend was so fun. He didn’t have wifi so we had to use LAN, but it actually made it have no latency. We beat the game like three times and while he knew much more about the game and was much better than me in terms of combat and the story, I was great at building, mining and exploring so I would get all the resources to make us stronger
I'm really going to have to give Starbound a try. I only recently started playing Terraria but was really close to getting Starbound instead as I love space exploration games. I remember reading a lot of negative reviews on Steam and between the "Overwhelmingly Positive" of Terraria and my tiny game budget the decision seemed easy. If I had seen this video I might have made a different choice. Next sale I'm probably going to go for it. Only thing for me was everything was a little bit quiet, but I think sound mixing is hard to get right because people who wear headphones probably thought it was fine and if you turned up the volume they would say it's too loud, lol. I subbed anyway and can't wait to see more.
@@dompHD I just bought it and am liking it so far! Sorry to comment again so late, but I was looking at videos for it now that I've got the hang of it and found this video again. Thanks!
I love Starbound but I sucked at it because I got no keyboard skills...gaming wise that is. But alas I have just figured out how to bind my controller through steam and not via 3rd party software so I decided to give it another go. I kinda wanted to see what has changed in the past few years...but unfortunately the rumor that Chucklefish abandoned this game is true. But...at least it looks and feels 'finished.' It would be cool if they just kept updating Starbound forever like Terraria, Mindcraft, Amazing Frog, GTA online, ect. Anyhoo, this video was well done and I believe this is the second time I have stumbled across your content. Subbed. My only suggestion...more humor!!!
its a shame developer abandoned this game too early, banger soundtrack, lack of replay value, but mostly amazing soundtrack that fit well within early 2005 era of gaming that I missed so much. Starbound could be amazing like Terraria but..
The Floran race are basically walking, sentient venus flytraps. They love stabbing, eating the flesh of their enemies, and in most cases, eating any meat they can get. There are a few Florans that believe eating the flesh of the weak is a waste of time at best. These Florans are usually viewed as outcasts by their kin, and it's implied... 'somewhere' (read: probably in older versions of the game only idk) that the player is one of these if the player choses Floran as their race. You otherwise got Floran right afaik. Avians are based on Aztec civilizations. Kluex may or may not be based on christianity, idk, but the whole 'grounding ceremony' is definitely a parallel to Aztecan blood sacrifice. Hylotl and Apex you basically got right. The Glitch are thusly named because a glitch was responsible for their society getting stuck in the medieval era.
Man, oh man. The video barely started, but I feel compelled to boost the engagement and pray to the algorythm gods that this video gets a lot of attention I love this game with all my heart, and been special to me since high school years and years ago. This game deserves so much more recognition.
@@dompHD I actually played it when it was still in beta with some friends A lot has changed since then lol It's just a shame the Bounty Hunt update somehow made the game super unoptimized for lower-end pcs and laptops. Heya, this video was amazing but I noticed a mistake while you were describing avians, I don’t really read the codex at all but I’m pretty sure that avians are based off of Egyptians because they sacrifice other avians and put their organs into pots just like how the Egyptians did. Most of their settlements are in deserts also. I’m subbing I loved this video
I recently went back to replay through starbound after enjoying so much as a younger person. It did not age very well, and I was kind of disappointed, especially after playing much better games like Terraria.
Funny thing about this game is you actually don't need to go underground axept for last boss. We only need to dig down a planet to mine ores and that's probably one time

We beat the game like three times and while he knew much more about the game and was much better than me in terms of combat and the story, I was great at building, mining and exploring so I would get all the resources to make us stronger
u gonna blow if u keep up the quality amazing video ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
*Dodge his lazers he said, but walks through it with no hesitation...*
You did a great job on the video, enjoyed the content and it was very well edited.
It’s def fun if you’ve never played before, I hope you like it if you get it!
@@dompHD I just bought it and am liking it so far! Sorry to comment again so late, but I was looking at videos for it now that I've got the hang of it and found this video again. Thanks!
Very cool vid keep up the good work man, i like your editing style 😅
Yeah it’s kinda sad, there was so much potential imo. Thanks for watching though :)
Yes! I love this game and I’m glad to see it get some attention!
Meine Liebe für Terraria wurde wieder entfacht. Super Video!
It was amazing! I would love to see more!
YES! A NEW Starbound video!! Fresh content aswell!
Hey, try Frackin’ Universe sometime, it’s a nice mod.
its a shame developer abandoned this game too early, banger soundtrack, lack of replay value, but mostly amazing soundtrack that fit well within early 2005 era of gaming that I missed so much. Starbound could be amazing like Terraria but..
Amazing video with amazing editing. And yes, starbound bosses are extremly easy.
The Glitch are thusly named because a glitch was responsible for their society getting stuck in the medieval era.
awesome video, literally only critical feedback i have is maybe have a more concrete script so multiple explanations of things dont get confusing lol
noted :)
you only have 912 subs?? this was so well made! definitely make more videos like this!
I will :)
God…. I love this game. I remember playing this.
Starbound > Thousands of other games > Terraria
Im so glad that the joke of space terraria never died
Yo, this was a lot of fun to watch. I never made it past the first artifact. Maybe it's time for me to pick Starbound up again sometime.
It’s def fun once if you can get past the artifacts
This video let me know there was an entire post-game storyline after killing the ruin holy crap.
Lmao yeah I didn’t know there was one either until I decided to finish bounty hunting one day
12:10 I've literally never even heard of that gun before, despite playing this game multiple times through, wtf?
You put serious work in on this, bro, thanks.
The algorithm really gave you a break, eh?
Good video though, ngl. I enjoyed myself and I'd like to see more videos like this
Man, oh man. The video barely started, but I feel compelled to boost the engagement and pray to the algorythm gods that this video gets a lot of attention
I love this game with all my heart, and been special to me since high school years and years ago.
This game deserves so much more recognition.
I'm glad you really liked the video, I feel the same about this game
@@dompHD I actually played it when it was still in beta with some friends
A lot has changed since then lol
It's just a shame the Bounty Hunt update somehow made the game super unoptimized for lower-end pcs and laptops.
Still. Vanilla or modded. Both are valid and different experiences. And I love them both
I love this game.. playing it for 5+ years
If it was any other game, I'd say you rushed too much. But it's Starbound we're talking about. The best comes after the end. And since I've been playing the Frackin Universe mod for the longest time, I didn't even know what the Peacekeeper questline looked like, so it was an enjoyable watch. Nice vid
Loved this video. Extremely entertaining 👌👌
Is that the real Soultasia?
God I remember picking this up when it was first even rumored, it's really looking good now since beta 🤣
I kind of miss the feel of the beta game sometimes
Heya, this video was amazing but I noticed a mistake while you were describing avians, I don’t really read the codex at all but I’m pretty sure that avians are based off of Egyptians because they sacrifice other avians and put their organs into pots just like how the Egyptians did. Most of their settlements are in deserts also. I’m subbing I loved this video
I recently went back to replay through starbound after enjoying so much as a younger person. It did not age very well, and I was kind of disappointed, especially after playing much better games like Terraria.
yeah I don't blame you for thinking that, the game isn't that fun without mods
This video was awesome !! Good job dude
starbound is such an underrated game imo its so much fun
Funny thing about this game is you actually don't need to go underground axept for last boss. We only need to dig down a planet to mine ores and that's probably one time
Yeah I literally almost never mine in vanilla I just buy everything from merchants since selling weapons is so op lol
I love starbound, I really do, but the main story collection quest is definitely its weakest point. One of the first things I did with my first character was to build a museum so that I could just go there to speedrun my later characters research hunts...
I definitely agree, it seems like such a cop out to me, almost as if they scrapped a lot of content in order to meet deadlines
yo, great video. This isn't much of an issue, but you could work on your choice of music so it would feel less like old youtube videos. I usually don't make it to the end of a video but yours was great.
This looks amazing!!
It looks like terraria x no man's sky
The quality of your videos is impeccable, my jaw dropped when I saw you have 400 subs, you deserve way way way more! Keep it up man!
Kind greetings from Germany!
This is great.. I wish the best for you and the growth of your channel. My only issue with the video is that it's too short.
I will def be lengthening my 100 days videos :)
“CAN SOMEONE PLS FIX THE TV” i’m dying
I probably wont play this gqme but great vid tbh will sub
"I KILLED THEM ALL" Alright anakin damn
That was really fun to watch!
Incroyable bg ( incredible bro)
I got into this game during the Alpha version, fell off and got back into it during the Beta, came back on full release but fell off again.
I think now this time ill really go for a full playthrough.
ngl THE BEST game to drink soda cans. and get hundreds of steam levels while doing it 10/10
Lol I remember that, the game had crazy sales that summer
You've finished the base game
Now it is time for...
MODDED!! GAME!!
Seriously, Starbound has some amazing mods. Many things to add if you want a bit of piecemeal, or go balls to the wall with total conversion mods like Frackin Universe.
There are also racemods a plenty, some so good that you never wanna look back.
This game should of gotten so much more love
Love this game so much
I just bought Starbound after 2,000 hours on terraria, I wanted to see some kind of gameplay and this was amazing enough
I hope you enjoy the game :)
@@dompHD sure will
Damn didnt even notice you only had like 500 subs, if you keep up this quality I can see it skyrocketing, especially if you also plan on doing 100 days videos for other games than the usual Minecraft
I f you enjoy survival games Dont starve might be for you
I’ve heard it’s really good, and thank you
@@dompHD Ive seen someone else post a dont starve video and i think that trying the base game blind with no dlcs at first would be interesting to watch, and probably to play...though do be warned, it has a bit of a learning curve :)))
@@Vardanix2468 ill consider it!
