I have done tires by hand back in the day I also found that a 15" tire is the easiest tire to do by hand 13" and 14" are hard to press the bead over the lip of the rim also 16" 17" also hard especially if you are trying to run low profile tires but very good video
a shitty tire shop will take 10 min. to mount a tire on a rim and aired up should take no more that 2 min with a tire changer machine. Hell i just bared on manually in my living room 4 17" truck tires in under 10 min. add another 3 min per tire and i had them all aired to 38psi.
Directional tires have a tread pattern that is designed to rotate in one direction. These tires have lateral grooves that form a V shape. Also, a directional tire has an arrow on the sidewall pointing in the direction the tire should travel. This is to help ensure that the tires are mounted and rotated correctly and work as the manufacturer intended.
I had a pirreli scorpion zero tire installed at a reputable tire shop and they destroyed the tire putting it on the rim . that's why I'm here watching this video .

Hi I'm kinda slow.... So, he connected and built up air pressure with a quick release nozel. and after lighting the torch and putting it aside, he sprayed butane around the non airtight area of the rim and then simultaneously released the pressurized air as he ignited the Butane? Causing the fire to take away all outer oxygen leaving it airtifgt for the inner pressurised air?
Question man. Why not mount the tire from the barrel side so that there is no risk of scratching the lips? Just wondering is I'm currently rebuilding some work vsxx's and don't want to take them to a tire shop and have them damage the lips with the machines. Thanks in advance for the response.
+jeff darnell Thats not correct at all. The narrow wheels that everyone uses allows the tires to wiggle a flex a lot, heating the tire and shortening its life and giving sloppier handling. Having a wheel that is approximately an inch wider than the tore sections means that the tire can't wiggle and so it runs cooler and gives noticeably better handling and more stable performance in crosswinds because its not flexing back and forth. If you are racing the you can go with an even wider wheel. This has been well know for many decades but I suspect that OEM car manufacturers put on narrower wheels because they are cheaper. Every penny counts to them. I prefer wider wheels.
+Billy Bob BMW uses mildly stretched tires as OEM setup in more performance oriented cars. For example: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tires_-_2015_BMW_M3_(15980458606).jpg
sjpro1 as long as you don't have too much stretch my car has a small amount of stretch but it's still safe. If I went down a width then I would be asking for trouble
Looking for videos like this, I saw one about how semi tires can explode on you. I suppose ANY tire can do that with enough pressure (My youngest brother - not mechanically inclined - came in as said he'd put 100psi into the Nova's tires and was that enough? LOL. He must have been riding on one bead. Aren't the lugs a bear on semi-tires?
tire mounting by hand is really easy I do it every day most of the ones I do are big rig tires which are way easier but more heavy. and I use a Bead sealer to stretch them which is less dangerous.
TheSacredBush cant wait to see the curb rash after a month. did a bit of googling these are also the tools who tilt their wheels 45 degrees GAY AS FUCK
Ive never seen that, can someone explain what the spray was and what actually makes it pop into place when he put a flame close to it? Is air going in slowly while doing all of this?
cod1mp I see, you know this could potentiality kill you, right? Not too sound like the youtube safety brigade, but with that amount of stretch, debeading a tyre is a serious possibility, ask me how I know. So just drive slow man, looks good.
Charles Avery This person (ie; me), has also enjoyed the look of stretched tires, and did it for many years because you just cant turn down a free drift tire. But, BUT, since I experienced first hand a tire coming off the wheel, resulting in EXTENSIVE damage to my car, well, just take my word for it, its not gonna be worth it. Just for reference sake, the tire that popped of was a 205/40 on 17x8 wheel, so nothing crazy, but still enough to fuck you up!
what about a balance? you will need to attach a small metal patch inside the rim as not all tires produced evenly. otherwise you will experince shaking steering wheel when over certain speed
A junkyard I'm close with has a machine that I tried to use on my 215/45/r17 civic si tires and my god are they hard to put on. The machine wasn't even powerful enough and I couldn't do it with me prying it along with the machine. Iv put tires on by hand many times and even giant ass tractor tires by myself with some improvised tools but no matter what I couldn't get this damn tire on. The sidewall is so damn strong I'd probably fuck the tire up completely before I'd ever get it on. What are some good tips on how to work with tires with tiny and thick sidewalls?
It is not safe to do. If you really feel you have to, take the valve core out before doing it. Then put your flammable gas of choice in the tyre, but use very little. That way you can always try again as the explosion will not have killed you on the first attempt. Start to air it up at the same time you apply the fire to cause the explosion. When you wake up in the hospital bed with multiple injuries and burns, tell me which hospital, and i will send flowers!
The fire makes an expansion of air inside the tire, expanding and stretching the tire around the rim and seating it properly. It's really the only way you can mount a tire without the proper tire mounting hardware

Well that was quick and easy. On the ground without any real special tools?
This video gets the "Easy Peasy You Rock" rating.
Like you've done it a million times!! Amazing in 3 minutes. Tires shops take like 10 minutes with equipment
a shitty tire shop will take 10 min. to mount a tire on a rim and aired up should take no more that 2 min with a tire changer machine. Hell i just bared on manually in my living room 4 17" truck tires in under 10 min. add another 3 min per tire and i had them all aired to 38psi.
Archangel 777 Agreed, I work at a shop & this is true
mount tire with ether
If it takes u 10 minutes to mount one tire you shouldn't be working in a shop
And also because they put like 400 ft/lbs. of torque on the lugnuts.
Pazi88 you have obviously done this many times, you did it more casually than an experienced tyre fitter!
Imagine doing all that work, then realizing it was a directional tire.
That happened to me with a motorcycle tire. I died a little inside.
Martin Preciado , lol
So what's a directional tire? Explain.
Sounds like something I would have done.
You don't mess around mate very impressive work :-)

Yeah I started installing my own tires because few tire shops scratched my rims by kicking them across the floor etc.
+pazi88 yeah it makes me sick how they scratch up peoples wheels
U said the truth I support lol

Add beads in the tires to balance them. They work. My '64 bug has 'em. No issues.

How did you dismount the old tyre by hand???
Bead breaker is probably the easiest way. But it's do'able with a shovel, just place it about 1cm from the lip of the rim and jump on it.
I don't agree with the "looks over performance" crowd but this is very well done
+☣droid☣ Don't worry the new tires for these wheels are more performance oriented ;)
Wrap the pry bars with electric tape. Won't scrape the rim.

Those tires seem a bit to skinny for that rim. This is just begging for sidewall failure.
+jeff darnell Yo its fine as long as u put like 30 degrees of camber on that shiz

Thanks for the video. How much air do you put in before you apply the deodorant and fire?
It is not safe to do. If you really feel you have to, take the valve core out before doing it. Then put your flammable gas of choice in the tyre, but use very little. That way you can always try again as the explosion will not have killed you on the first attempt. Start to air it up at the same time you apply the fire to cause the explosion. Yup that’s how we used to do it, even for big tractor tires!
Why did he started the fire (3:10 time)?
The fire makes an expansion of air inside the tire, expanding and stretching the tire around the rim and seating it properly. It's really the only way you can mount a tire without the proper tire mounting hardware
So even if you do this, wouldnt you still have to take these in to get them balanced ?
