You were correct on mounting it upside down, that's called a reverse mount wheel. Also for best results have somebody hold the tire halfway up the wheel while you blast it, it shows fit the air to fill the gap better and makes the space it has to cover less
He shows the drop center of the wheel in the video, its a top mount not reverse. He flipped it to blast because trying to blast top mount on that specific wheel as he said is all open space until the last inch, can be very hard to seat a stretch on a drop center that big
Tip. Use a direct air line .ie, straight from your compressor or main line when trying to inflate the tyre. The Auto34 air hose as to much restriction, that's what the clicking sound is.. Great video !!
yup would trust that S)*(T on speed or any hard turn or maneuver. If anything I always try to go a bit more tire than rim to ensure my contact patch is as optimal and secure as possible.
Back when it was the fad to put stretched 175/70-14's on 8-10" knock-off wire spoke wheels (usually on an 80's cutlass for some reason), we would simply inflate tubes in the tires ahead of time to help form a 'stretched memory' into the tire's sidewalls before mounting them. Think of it like this: tires at the shop were normally stacked by size, applying a squeezing (compression) pressure to them, and when you un-stack them they don't immediately return (relax) to normal width between the beads. By inflating tubes inside the tires ahead of time (days or weeks), we could reverse that squeeze and if we worked quickly, could get the tire mounted without a cheetah because they would momentarily hold that 'stretched memory' shape. We still required a signed liability (hold harmless) waiver, and warranty waiver.
I'm good with maybe a lil bit of stretch, like a tire that's an inch too short, it had a nice rounded edge like a racing go kart wheel, but it's not crazy.
Aslong as they use the same roads as us. It's not each to their own. .. it is stupid. Pointless and dangourous!!! Also negative camber is a good thing. All mordern cars have it. BUT and it's a big but. It's only a slight bit almost unnoticeable. When you have high amounts mixed with stretched tyres. It is stupid and dangourous
It might not make a whole lot of sense, but I work as a tire mechanic and I’ve had people asking me to stretch tires out and it’s been a pain. What I’ve found is that do the same as you are having the larger part of the drop center seated first, than putting it vertical on the balancing machine so that the rim doesn’t move at all and there’s no downward force of the weight of the tire to blast. That way once the bead is atleast some what seated on the back there’s a smaller pocket on the bottom side of the tire to blast. And the top of the tire is somewhat centred between both the beads on the rim. Not easy to explain in text or this extreme of a stretch
You did everything by the book. Would never use burning gas like some do.. Yes fill the tire allmost to max air pressure. Then lower it after a few min.. 185 is kinda extreme on a 13 inch.. but look good. Just a tip, be carefull stretching premium tires. Some of them are not strong enough to be stretch to much Supose to be some of the best to stretch is Falken tires
Keep the air hose connected to the blaster after you build some pressure. Make sure the small input valve is opening and blast the tire right as the overpressure relief is about to go. This will keep forcing air for longer after you initially blast it. Be careful tho, the blaster will kick like a mule.
all depends on the amount of stretch and the air pressure. a 205 or a 215 on a 8" wide rim is a normal and safe stretch, but what shown in this video isnt considered safe. but safe enough that you can drive normal with high air pressure. people who know a bit about what they are doing dont have issues with debeading and stuff. stretching a tire on a rim so wide it doesnt even meet the edge of the rim is considered dumb :p showcars often do that.
Caleb Nation i had 195/45zr15’s an they felt way better beating the fuck ou of it, i tried 195/50-55, 205/45-55 and 185’s aaand 215s. The 195s felt better in terms of quicker turn in, overall response and how planted it was on the road. (And the fitment was 10x better altough i wouldve preffered 185’s but since i could pull 195’s and stay as low i stuck to that
Use a p3 or also know as a quick air. You can also tube the tire and seat one bead then pull the tube out the drop center side. Pop a 413 stem in it and push the tire to seat the other side.
Mine use 185/55 to 16*9.0 on rear. 16*8.0 on the front. It’s kinda hard to mount new tires. So I always move the front to rear wheels. And put new tires on the front. It’s already pre-stretched so it’s easier to mount on the rear wheel. Front camber was neutral. But rear was -1.5’. I purposely let the rear wear the thread and finish off the tire.
Ive seen people get killed from idiots with these stretched tyres and as a qualified tyre fitter it should be illegal in all countries they are dangerous... Most of time fitted to a car with extreme camber meaning your driving on the sidewalls
@@petergriffin4629 your stretching the tire to a point it will cause cracking in the tire, do some highway driving especially with camber, and your tire life can be next to nothing, plus it reduces your contact patch just get the right size wheel and tire so you get performance and a mean track stance
Something to consider with tore stretching is most if not close to all vehicles running them are show vehicles. Meaning they don't go on 100+ mile drives so the risk of a blow out is considerably lower then someone with a regular tire driving on a 500+ mile trip a few times a year
what happened in your successful attempt was the bead on the outside clung to the rim. i do it first time by seating the bead in the outside or inside rim with the standard bead breaker on my tyre machine then lift the tyre with hand until i close the gap and fill the tyre the normal way from the valve without using huge burst of air.
0:05 This look isn't new, we were doing this on minitrucks when I was in high school in Beaverton Oregon in late 1980's. 15X10 reverse wheels, not wires, with a 195-50-15. Back then we had a very limited tire size selection, nothing like it is now. That's like 30+ years ago.
Sometimes it helps to have a rachet strap around the tire to force the tire bead in contact with the inside of the rim. When it starts taking air by itself release the strap.
History of tire stretching goes wayyyy back to racing in I want to say the 50s or earlier when tire tech wasnt there and racing teams needed different wheel specs and to change the tire profile. Its pretty interesting and worth a look.
Recently fitted a 185/60 on a 13x10. Then swapped to a 195/50 Thought it'd be funny to try a 165/60 and it inflated, but couldn't get fully stretched to both beads. So a 165/65 may be the absolute limit for a simple fire on stretch on the 13x10
We had to mount some 35x10.50R20’s on a set of 20x15 wheels at the shop I used to work at. It was ludicrous. thankfully i convinced the kid of the error of his ways and got him to aim for real performance instead of I don’t even know what he was thinking. That truck was all Jankey when it first came to us...
I once beaded a karting tyre on a rim that had a mild stretch with deodorant and lighter, had a brick on the tyre to hold it in place, well you can guess the brick flew up pretty high :D
Those are reverse mount wheels, a ratchet strap would help you a lot, I've changed from low profile tires to stretching big super swampers on 15 inch wide wheels
No weights to balance? Wow. Like you, when I get a tire come up that says it needs no weights to balance, I turn the wheel 90 degrees on the balancer and test it again. Well done!
Nice balance machine. I like your technique, although I some times find very little lube lets one bead stick a little better to the rim during bead seating. Thanks.
That's an impressive stretch! #MajorProps Here in Germany I do some tire stretch. I have special tools to cover the gap between the tire and the wheel. you mean where he used the tire mounting machine with lube that's the normal/safe way of doing it what you might find at a tire shop the fire method is more dangerous as it is well fire and more likely to explode
I used to do this to my rims on my Mitsubishi galant, the tire guy thought i was crazy when i did this lol, i had 20" rims i had to modify my Mitsubishi wheel base and put rubbernands and taper the rim like this so it did not rub, but my tires sidwalls kept bubbling so i gave it up.

Is tire steatching safe, can i mount a 255/65 on 17x9?
Is it lighter fluid or starting fluid
I'm surprised your tire machine doesn't have air jet to help seat the bead. I've found a ratchet strap around the circumference of the tire can help deform the tire enough and push the bead out a little on stubborn ones. Of course take it off immediately after seating.
It has its own built in blaster, I tried using it and failed. I have yet to try the ratchet strap method, I'll probably try that next time.
had to do a tire like that before nowhere near as big a gap but the closest tire we had was a good inch or two smaller, -ford ranger
Could the sticker have had an impact on the tire being not needing weights
hate the trend, but a great video, gave you a thumbs up for it being well put together.
wow, where r u guys ?
Yep I use the carb cleaner and a lighter method
Can we stretch 185/60r13 into 5.5J
Looks like the successful one you held the air blaster more upright 👍
Yeah starting fluid is way easier and works on bigger tires like AG tires and stiff tractor trailer tires when the cheetah doesn't have enough volume
What method is that I've only seen the lighter fluid one°
you mean where he used the tire mounting machine with lube that's the normal/safe way of doing it what you might find at a tire shop the fire method is more dangerous as it is well fire and more likely to explode
I have 245/45/20 on my 20" 10J rims just enough not too much stretch
Dude had to check 3 times to make sure it was perfectly balanced
I used to do this to my rims on my Mitsubishi galant, the tire guy thought i was crazy when i did this lol, i had 20" rims i had to modify my Mitsubishi wheel base and put rubbernands and taper the rim like this so it did not rub, but my tires sidwalls kept bubbling so i gave it up.
