I think that these Dark Knights are just various aspects of Batman but taken to the darkest and most evil extremes. Think about it:
RED DEATH is his paternal feeling towards the Robins. That;s why he couldn't forgive himself and was desperate to access the time stream to fix his mistakes.
MURDER MACHINE is his love and dependence for Alfred and his reliance on technology. Without Alfred, he became a wreck and resorted to technology and became more mechanical as solace.
DAWNBREAKER is his willpower over the loss of his parents and intimidating nature. His willpower overpowered the Green Lantern ring and allowed him to murder and wipe out criminals on his world. He eventually got corrupted by the Black and the darkness turned him into the monster which Gotham thinks Batman is.
THE DROWNED represents his inability to trust many people and paranoia. The metahumans killed her version of Catwoman (Sylvester Kyle) and she resented and thought of all metas as threats to be eliminated. Her paranoia over the Atlanteans drove her to start a war and literally killed her on the inside.
THE MERCILESS is what Batman fears breaking his no-kill rule will turn him into. The Merciless became obsessed with violence and destruction after losing his last tether to sanity (Wonder Woman) and so, he became a cold-blooded mass murderer. Killing indiscriminately.
THE DEVASTATOR is Batman's fear of Superman justified. Superman went rogue and was truly unstoppable, so Batman had to fall into the role of evil and becoming a monster. He fought a being of pure destruction (Superman) and in his single-minded quest to stop "the alien", he became a worse creature. He lost his humanity both literally and metaphorically.
THE BATMAN WHO LAUGHS is Batman's reason for not killing The Joker. Many times in comics, Batman says that if he kills the Joker, he will be just like him. In the alternate universe, Batman finally killed the Joker but unbeknownst to anybody, the Joker had a last prank for the grave, There was a bomb in the Joker's heart that would activate if he were to die, turning the person who killed him into a Joker copy or poison them with his laughing gas. Either way, Batman's fear of killing the Joker is justified and the clown gets a last, sadistic laugh from the pits of hell.

God of war Batman. Probably the best one so far. Has people praying to him, absorbs bombs, and looks cool while doing it. I always wanted to see him and WW get together but this backstory works just fine with me.

+Pokèmon Fan Him and the Drowned's were a little lighter on the origin section it felt like, I hope Doomsday and the Batman who laughed's origin is more like the first 3.

well it is a negative DCAU universe, so by their logic earth 12's bruce and diana's relationship don't end up as bad as this one lol
When you realize that the regular Earth 12 is the Animated Universe now turned into the Batman Beyond future. No surprise on the WonderBat connection in this.

Easily my favorite Batman of the group.
I really liked this one as it touched on his humanity again. That he is gone but yet not at the same time. He constantly has that inner battle within himself unlike some of the others. Which are just gone at all levels.

What if The Batman Who Laughs is just like a normal Bruce Wayne. Like he never had his parents killed, he grew up but the problem was, he grew up to be a failure. He was a joke to his family and a joke to the people of gotham. He became a clown to try and get his own house but ended up in an apartment after getting kicked by his parents. He started working as a comedian trying to get some fame but it was working horribly. He then got a girlfriend and they got married but then she got pregnant. Then after one bad day, he snapped and he killed (I don't know like) his family. He killed someone and since he was deemed as crazy he was then sent to an asylum. There at the asylum he got treated by some doctors and he got experimented on and mistreated and tortured by all of them except one and that one doctor was the only who laughed at his jokes and was the only one nice to him. He tried escaping time and time again but he never made it out and then one day he actually did because a certain voice told how to. After that, that same voice told him how to get revenge on everyone who did him wrong and he did everything the voice said. After hurting and killing everyone who hurt him, the voice told him to go to a certain chemical factory to be "set free". So he went and jumped in some chemicals like the voice said, and he came out with pale skin and green hair and finally, he realized why everyone laughed at him. He finally understood the joke... And. He. Laughed.

Merciless Batman is one of the Batman that went mad because of someone not in the Bat family. Meaning he cares about Diana alot.
Side note in the Earth 12 animated Universe, there is a lot of hinting in Batman and Wonder Woman pairing, guess thats why

I think his story is this: He killed the Joker, but the Joker had a toxin in him that would make whoever killed him the next Joker. Which is why he constantly tries to get Batman to kill him.

Yes DC Metal is good. Even I as a Marvel fan admit that. But you don't need to be a fucking jerk and compare the two. Wait a few more years and then Marvel will return with some awesome storylines.

Really? They're done with event storylines? That's sad... but I think it's good for now. I guess they're not wrong if they choose to spend time trying to develop the new characters instead of immediately rushing (cough DCEU cough) them immediately into big events. Maybe when the new characters are properly developed and are more popular, Marvel will continue event storylines.
Don't be a fucking jerk as a marvel fan I like this storyline well not this one but The Batman Who Laughs storyline it was kinda exploring what if batman had his intelligence but has joker's moral code its fantastic but the events on marvel is pretty fantastic too
