The best thing about Mentalist is that, they could've ended the show when he killed red John but instead they focused on giving closure to the audience. What better way to get closure, than to see Jane settling down with Lisbon and having a baby together. What a beautiful ending.!
Red John episode was the most disappointing episode. And after that the show ended the purpose. Jane and Lisbon had a very great chemistry but again the conclusion to that chemistry was that AirPort scene. That was very below average. Girl has another bf, moving to some another city, main character do something so the girl is angry at him, the main character realizes his mistakes and at the end moment tells his feelings to girl. That's like every romance movie/story ever. After all that episodes of great chemistry, moments between them...they come up with this below average over used story!
The producers clearly respected the fans and wanted to give them a great ending. This is rare , usually they just drop their show , and thats it. The 8 simple rules producers were also kind enough to finish their series , out of respect for their fans. I wish that could have been done for the Sarah Connor chronicles .
Jane's tortured soul found peace and second chance to love and be loved.Theresa stood by him every step of the way,helping him,protecting him.Beautiful love story.

It wasn't merely timidity that stopped Jane, it was trauma, and Lisbon trying to steamroller that would have been grotesque. A strong woman compels a man to be brave for his own sake as well as hers. She left because the only hindrance left was his apprehension. He needed to cede, to move, to be courageous. And he did. It's not rocket science.
I've watched many many shows similar to this only to be met with a disappointing ending. Through out the series they had the feelings for each other,but they never express. I found the real meaning of "speaking with eyes" in this series. Jane & Lisbon😍

Such a lovely, meaningful proposal. I'm so so glad Patrick got his new happy beginning with Theresa. It made it possible for me to go back and rewatch the whole show twice already... the Mentalist was just such a great show that really centered around its characters and not simply some formula. And those characters were so well written and interesting and so brilliantly brought to life - especially Patrick Jane. It's sad such TV shows are so hard to find these days.
Just BEFORE this part is the best section of the scene. Lisbon says "You're not wearing your wedding ring." And Jane says "I'm not married." He's finally ready to let the past go--something he's been unable to do for all those years. Until he does that, there is no chance of a future together for them.
That is a great scene, and very realistic for those who have lost a spouse/child (ren) through death, for it brings a new beginning to an existing life. It is nice to see Jane trusting Lisbon enough to ask her to marry him ! 👍

Rewatching it whenever i can hehe ❤❤ i think they both fell in love with each other at the..well not the same time...but like there's this silent and sweet and genuine understanding of each other even if the initial deal was that theyre partners in solving crimes first. Theyre like two magnets to me--not magnet and metal type of thing. Lisbon's feelings were just the more obvious one since Jane was still focused on his revenge. But he said it... When the fake RJ advised that it's time to forget, find himself a woman to love, start a family...Jane said it himself: he will when RJ's dead. And that he did. ❤
One of the best things about the last season was seeing the reaction from his carnie friends that he was officially with Lisbon now...they'd been telling him for years to forgive himself and get on with his life, and they were all so happy he was actually doing it...true friends who want the best for you...

I think that the ending is great. Jane's goal was to take revenge on a serial killer to avange his wife and daughter. He killed him in the end and it could end that way but i think it had to continue because i belive the fact that revenge is not the solution and it doesn't satisfy you entirely. Meaning it had to continue because he lost his point of living and he has to find another. And that is Lisbon.
I love how, when Lisbon points out Jane wasn't wearing his wedding ring, he just deadpans that it's because he's not married, as if to say "well, DUH!"

Thats only the ending. Its a criminal investigation type of series. I highly recommend it. Its more abt mystery but has a little bit of romance as well.
It ended a bit later, with a serial killer, a wedding party and a revelation. I'll recommend you watch the episodes from Season 6:22 (last of the season) onwards; Season 7 had only 13 episodes. Just 14 of them, and very good.

The series should have ended with Jane killing Red John then running off and disappearing to an unknown, uncertain future. Jane's final words to Lisbon by voicemail are ominous as he dumps the phone and starts running. It would have been a nice concluding mystery as he leaves Lisbon and everyone else behind: what will Jane do now? Spend the rest of his life on the run, commit suicide, or perhaps become a serial killer himself? Did killing Red John exorcise his demons or did it snap his final tenuous hold on sanity? The series became really sappy after Red John's execution at the hands of Jane.
