  • What a bizarre game. Ups and downs, big chances and moments, a tale of two halves...but if we're being truthful, and you believe in statistical analysis, then Villa would have to concede "second best" status from this affair. Pete the Canadian Villa fan rode the roller coaster of emotions that ended with a very valuable point, particularly given Arsenal's victory Sunday morning in the North London Derby. it was also a great week for the club, as Unai Emery's contract extension was confirmed, as Villa now looks towards the Europa Conference League Semi Final First leg. Sit back, and take in some Villa analysis from across the pond!

Hi Pete. So glad you mentioned Sawiris. I've worked alongside their family company, ORASCOM, in Egypt. Sawiri's father, and their Copt family is a story to be told. I wonder whether any Villa fans have knowledge of our co-owners' history.

Loved the nod to Nassef for getting Unai, the massive turning point. If you take the win on penalties against Lille then we are on a 6 match unbeaten run, inspite of up and down performances just recently, we are finding ways to keep increasing the points tally. As the front runner, to keep the pressure on Spurs, the motto is, 'if you can't win, then don't lose'. UTV mighty Pete!

Olsen did great in this games and in the last couple of games where he’s been called on. If people can’t see how much he’s improved this season, they’re not paying attention.
Agree we were second best the whole game despite the half time score, so it was a good point in the end.

Might be Ollie wants that 20th goal to much and is snatching at chances. We have the best goalie in the world and an ever changing backline and midfield, with the best will in the world some combo's take time to bed. Take Martinez out and the keep ball in defence is compromised somewhat. Olsen decent enough just not playing enough.
I wasn't surprised to hear we are third lowest in the ground covered stats either, says we are fresher than most you would think.

Neither was Ramsey 3 years ago either but he needs a run of starts in a top 4 European league or for a club playing in Europe to get there and whilst I take more pleasure from growing our own young players than relying on Sheffield United to do it for us. The timing of integration isn't great at the end of the season with so much on the line and with Tim missing pre season and all that but with the current number of available midfielders and ffp he'll need to play and we'll need to support him. Tbh 3 years ago I didn't think Ramsey would get as good as he's got and I didn't see a top half player there. At this stage you never know but I think Tim has top ten level potential and hunger

    Question for pretty much everyone...
How would you improve the squad in the summer?

The entire team was trying to give Watkins that 20 goal and totally played Bailey out the game. Bailey mainly had 3 markers and any tactician would have used this to their advantage by using him to pull the defenders out of position then have som1 playing close for the reverse ball inside in the space left behind the defenders chasing Bailey. Structure the team around Bailey and watch Villa win the league. Bailey is the biggest threat to opponents and most creative Villa player. Time to use him to his full potential.

Bring Zambo Anguissa. I believe Tim can do it, we have to get rid of this cold feet mentality, if we dont play our youngsters with the hope that they will fulfill their role, aint no point having an academy like ours. You only need a strong backbone as foundation and they will find their place.

It's looking promising but I'm not thinking of "that competition" until it's mathematically sealed.
One thing we can celebrate is that we can finish no lower than 5th which guarantees Europa League whatever happens. It's been remarkable since Emery arrived.

The point in the end was good knowing spurs lost! UTMV Pete.

The issue with our low block is teams just foul us in transition. We gotta be more aggressive sometimes and expect the foul to come in and try to compete against it. Although to be fair we cant afford to get any more injuries now so its kind of a wash. Its something we should work on during the off season i think.

Before the game a point seemed ok to me. It was just the anxiety of seeing Chelsea absolutely boss things for 70 minutes and clawing back a 2 goal deficit that was hard.
Chelsea looked phenomenal. Those young players will click soon and Chelsea will be a problem.
I know Chelsea fans have had impatience bred into them because of Abramovich but Poch is starting to do something there.

offside is offside and everything but i still hate toenail offside calls. even if they go for villa. Coventry for instance should be in a FA cup final if it wasnt for a toenail offside. I know Villa really rely on catching people offside and a change to toenail being offside would make Villa have to account for that. but i still think that change should happen. their is no advantage gained for being a toenail length offside. those moments used to just be, in line which equals onside. now adays with the line drawing. maybe automated offsides would be better but i still dont like goals being chalcked off for basically nothing. clear daylight offsides. clear half a body offsides. 🙏 my dad says he remembers when their was no offside rule. make defenders defend he says. im not saying go that far. but come on. pet hate of mine that. VAR is fun.
