I get a bit irritated when people put their personal item up in the overhead bins. There never is a time “when there’s extra room” up there. When someone does that, then the person coming in next has no room for their carry on. Airlines clearly state this, but so many don’t listen.

I have never had an issue with it. Not sure what airline you fly with, but I have never even been on a flight where they had to start check people's bags due to space constraints. If it came down to that I have no problem putting it under the seat to make room for someone else.

Gotta agree with you. I've actually seen this so many times! People put smaller bags, coats, etc which shouldn't go in the overhead compartment (unless there's space).what happens is other passengers then try to fit their suitcase, but can't. Then they'll either trudge around to find a spot for their suitcase farther away from their seats , thus potentially taking someone else's spot, or they call for a flight attendant to help them find a place. What really gets me is folks see others struggling to find a place for their luggage and won't get up to pull their small items down, unless the attendant pulls their item down and asks who it belongs to. This wastes everyone else's time. I've seen this so many times,I've lost count. I'm a big woman, and would love the extra little bit of space for my big feet,but I wouldn't shove my personal item in the overhead bin - at least not until we've all been seated and if I see there's room. There usually isn't. 😂 I fly Ryanair within the EU, but I've flown other companies too, not just low cost, and this still happens... 😅

Alaska Airlines,Delta, and Icelandair are my typical carriers, and they really frown on PI in the overhead bins. I have seen the attendants ask passengers to remove a PI so a passenger put their carryon in the overhead bin.

I was on a flight with a soldier , his wife, and 2 small children. They were flying from Houston to Korea. There was no room for their carry on. Our had already been checked. They were told they wouldn’t get their carry on back until Korea. Luckily,the flight attendant was understanding & found a place for it. When we got ready to leave the plane, the lady sitting beside me picked up her purse from underneath her seat and then retrieved her backpack AND her carry on from the overhead bin! I’ve never forgotten that and NEVER put my personal item above!

Oh wow...I usually fly Southwest which has free checked bags, so I prefer to check a bag rather than carry on in general and make sure I only have one personal item. Again, I would absolutely move my backpack to make room for another person's carry on without hesitation.

In my tech bag I put extra cords in it and leave them. That way I don’t accidentally leave anything behind the day I leave.

I used to do that and then I took it out, at some point and never put it back lol. I need to get it back in there because it's so much easier that way.
