Man you’re seriously the best LEGO RUclipsr around, it’s so refreshing to see something go into depth on some of the lesser known sets from the 90s. I was wondering if you had ever seen the original arctic prototype images from I believe 1986. They’re so much cooler that what we ended up getting.
Thank you Ryan! The late 90’s to early 2000’s was such a creative time period for Lego - I love talking about sets from this era! 😊 Indeed, those Arctic prototypes are killer! So many cool new moulds we will never see… 😭
i grew up with this set! i grew up in a small nowhere town and at the time no kid seemed to be into lego besides me. this often led to lego waves being partially instock or skipped entirely. it used to be a common sight to see retired sets on shelves because no one bought 'em. my dad got me this set in 2006! man do i wish i had a wallet back then to take advantage of all that vintage loot.
@@RRSlugger at the right local stores where I live you can still rarely find things like power miners as recently as during the pandemic. Really something
Oddly enough, the stairs in black at 5:18 made their final appearance in this set, having been introduced in 1993 as part of a set (6076) from the "Dragon Knights" theme, and in another set (1906) from that theme from '94. This is also the first and only minifigure-scale set to have the 2x2x2 "support w/center hole" in Mata blue, being that it also came in a Belleville set (5890) from '94. As for the palisade walls introduced with the Western theme, they would make two more unique appearances in their origin color of earth orange (Mata brown/Old brown) in sets (6249 and 6281) from the "Pirates" theme during 1997. Even as several Western sets would be re-released in 2002 under different set numbers. This piece would appear in white and in black in two sets each (3052 and 3053) and (6083 and 6093) in 1998 and '99. This piece also came in the newer shade of "reddish brown" in the largest set (7019) of the "Vikings" theme in August 2005 and in one other set (3832) in 2008 before being phased out.
Got ahold of a Twisted Time Train for myself, actually got the original instructions along with it and got to put it together. Admittedly only got it since it was the only time twister set that had the whole Time Twister crew, I didn't really enjoy the look of the train when I first viewed your video on it, but actually having the set before me, and having built it, rolling it along the table, the odd charm of the train has absolutely won me over! Still eagerly awaiting my Hypno Cruiser, and I'm seriously considering picking up the rest of the sets now. Such an underrated gem of a theme!
I stumbled upon this set on ebay back in maybe 2003. In all honesty, I just wanted the ghost but I have fond memories of this set - especially the locomotive... I could take or leave the cars and very often I did detach them when playing with the set. Really dig the treasure haul car you made - it gives me aquasharks vibes.
IT'S A TRAIN This is automatically the best Time Cruisers/Twisters set! It's a Train!!!! I love it so much! Look at those goofy play features! It's so fun! If you think about it, though, it makes sense for the Time Twisters NOT to have a base. They're thieves! If they stay in one place, they get caught. But what's big and can act as a base? That's right, a train!! This makes your additions even better, since it makes the train act more like a home! And great job on those MOCs, I might add; very creative and fun! I can't believe that Time Cruisers is ending soon. It's been so fun! I can't wait to see where the next temporal destination is! Thanks for another hit, Slugger!
This is such a fun set! I think it’s a charming ( if a little basic ) train!:D I think all 4 of your mocs were great and really add to the Time-Twisters plethora of weapons and machines, have a great day Mate!. Can’t wait for the last episode
I wish there were more alternate builds to cover in Time Cruisers, but I’m afraid we burned through them in the first few episodes… 😭 Thank you, as always! 😊
I never had a single Time Twisters/Cruisers set - they were before my time - but I remember being awestruck by the play features when I saw them in an old LEGO catalogue I ended up with; so much so that I found the instructions for this set, and a couple others, and built them using parts from my own collection! The color scheme was an absolute nightmare in my version, of course, but my goodness, all the moving parts are just so much fun!
I have had my eye on this one since 1997, but it wasn't until I started watching this retrospective series that I was inspired to hop over to Bricklink and buy it--it's sitting next to my desk now! So I was really looking forward to this video and you did not disappoint! I laughed so hard at the brass section, and loved all the thought that went into the MOC additions. The Chrono Crawler feels like something that should have been in Time Twisters Wave 2. It reminds me of the classic H.G. Wells time machine with totally unnecessary (and therefore perfect for this theme) legs.
I'm really glad I found your channel! Your production is super charming and informative! Your shared passion for this creative era of Lego is so wonderful. Something about the music you use, your script and the way you set up your photos/stop motion REALLY evokes the mid 90s. It all comes together so well. You've infected me with the Time Cruiser bug, I'm gonna be looking out for the Hypno Cruiser :)
Thank you so much and welcome to the channel! Time Cruisers is absolutely worthy of some unironic love - I think the Hypno Cruiser is the perfect starting point for trying out this theme. 😊
I remember this set specifically from one of the many catalogues from 1997-98 and thought it both a very cool toy and kind of a grab bag assortment of various parts lego didnt know what to do with so they just made a theme out of it. Having watched this retrospective, it gives more credence to the idea that lego was stealthy retiring parts and decided to put it into a line where random zaniness was key to the whole thing. Well played if that was case.
Oh, I had this set as a kid and LOVED IT! This was the only Time Twisters { or Time Cruisers for that matter } . I have to say Tony Twister and Professor Millennium are two of the coolest looking mini-figures I have ever come across.
I've built the set at least twice so far, and played each time as well. I always had trouble with the chains on the second rolling stock always caused me trouble, jamming up after a few rotations. I really dig the Vault Car MOC but for removability (which is *totally a word*), I would aim for the system used in Cargo Express, with a separate forklift for the heavy lifting. The Chrono-Crawler adapts well to the theme too! Excellent review as always!
I used to own this set when I was a kid! I loved the mechanisms as well as the black castle pieces, which were pretty much the only ones I had. This is fo-sho the best set in the series because trains rule.
This is kind of unrelated but I noticed the Creator 3in1 Sunken Treasure Mission in some videos lately. I was heavily considering picking that one up, seems like an underrated set. Cool to see Slugger get some good use out of it. The Twisted Time Train would probably be my favorite Time Cruiser set btw and I'm not even a train person. Having all these action features and blending all these cool themes together while still having a nice color scheme is really impressive. Good eye! I haven’t had time to finish building the main build yet, let alone the alternate builds… I’ve been enjoying it so far though! Thanks for checking out the video, as always!
I've always loved trains, there's just something so appealing about them in my eyes. Therefore, seeing the time twisters get their own train, packed with moving parts and play features, was really cool. That being said, I do find this set to be a bit lacking in certain aspects, while the locomotive is pretty detailed the same could not be said for the rest of the model,as a few big pieces make up what seems to be the majority of it. The idea of a skeleton which with a laser beam or a ghost in a castle is really creative, but a part of me can't help but wonder what would've been possible if they had made this model today. The re use of the play feature on the castle portion doesn't help matters either. Ultimately, I'd still call this a good set,it has a ton of personality, great minifigures, and an amazing colour scheme. It may sound as if I'm not to fond of the set in question, but the truth is, I really do like it, I just can't help but see the potential in its concept.
@@RRSlugger Do you still have it or has it been deconstructed since you made this video? If it's still around maybe you can use it again as the temple of Darth Slugger...
The colour scheme makes this one for me. There can't be many LEGO subthemes or even sets that are predominantly blue-black-brown, let alone with chrome and trans neon accents. I also like how you can expand on the concept endlessly, just making new carts wuith parts from your Western, Space and Castle sets, something you could never have done with a theme that uses a lot of new parts. (Oh wait, you're already saying most of this stuff now... I should really finish videos before I start typing comments.)
I wanted this set as a kid, because it was the only one from a regular system theme with recommended age of 9+, not 8+ as all the other big sets from that time
Great video Slugger! Both this and the classic Hogwarts Express, funnily enough, were my only Lego trains as a kid. They got heavily modified into really messy mobile fortresses for clone troopers though lol
I think this is the Time Cruisers set I actually had as a kid - almost every part looks familiar to my collection, but I don't think I built it as intended even once. To me it was "Oh, this will mix well with my Fright Knights stuff!"
This set always stood out to me. Primarily because of it’s inclusion of a ghost minifigure, and it’s fright night esque accents and all around motifs. Why? Because this makes it the FIRST of the LEGO ghost trains. I originally owned the Monster Fighter’s Ghost Train, then released the Hidden Side one. I was happy to see they’d released more than one, because the concept was interesting. But after I did some digging awhile back I discovered this set. The first of the Ghost Trains! The forefather of the later two. Time Cruisers really was a pioneer of LEGO themes.
Man, this hit me hard, I completely forgot about this one, but it may have been my very first Lego set I've ever gotten. As a kid, I remember liking the play features a lot, but being oblivious to story and lore, I found the rest of the train just baffling. And having always been more attracted to the neat, clean and purposeful toys and models, it didn't take too long for the two carts to end up in the play bucket of parts. It felt just too messy for my brain. Loved the engine cart though. I had a similar experience with some sort of a pirate hideout set I received around the same time. I liked it well enough, but I always wished I had gotten a ship or proper fort instead. Edit: That set was Shipwreck Island. Cool set looking at it now, but again, purposefully messy design which never appealed to me as a kid.
8:10 I was thinking with the extra carriages you built and the Time Twisters not receiving a proper base. What if the train itself is their mobile base? Just need to add more carriages so they have somewhere to eat and sleep. Possibly 'borrow' some maps from sets that have them and you have a carriage where they plan their heists and carriages for whatever else you think they might need. Now that I think about it, this time-travelling train is basically an evil version of the one you see at then end of the third Back to the Future movie. I wonder if the person who designed the set is a fan
I have always had a theory that Professor Millenium may have influenced some events in Fright Knights: - a Fright Knights figure carries the same face and torso as him - the Twisted Time Train is adorned with many elements from Fright Knights from shields, to bats, to swords and magic wands Although I am not an expert on the lore, I am willing to learn if anything matched up on purpose.

I’ll be honest: as a train guy, I’ve never been the biggest fan of the Time Cruisers train. I don’t mind the whimsy of it, but I personally would’ve been more than okay with LEGO sacrificing some play features to make this work on standard LEGO track, but that’s just me. Either way, excellent video.
That’s fair! Honestly, it might make for a good mod for me to try in the future. 😊 Thanks for checking out the video and keeping an open mind about it! ❤️
I would like to see older rock raider and various dropped sets remade to modern standards. I can only imagine how well they would look with the starwars build quality.

I think the Twisted Time Train was inspired by the Jules Verne Time Train from Back to the Future part 3.
Absolutely! 🙂
I would like to see older rock raider and various dropped sets remade to modern standards. I can only imagine how well they would look with the starwars build quality.
I’m definitely into The Lego Group offering more set remakes like they did with the Forest Hideout - though I want to see them available at the retail level, not locked behind “Gift With Purchase” paywalls.
Any chance we could get a better look or MOC instructions for those extra traincars? I'm fascinated...
Check the Google Drive link in the video description! Lots of photos of them in there. 😊
Sad to see Majisto was killed by the Fright Knights
Do you have instructions to make the custom cars. Love Them.
Thanks! No instructions, but additional photos of them in the Google Drive folder linked in the description. 😊
If you want a veritable expanded universe of Time Cruisers alternate builds, may I recommend Lego Idea Book 697?
Oh, way ahead of you! 😉
I would love to see a retrospective on Lego universe if you played the game
There’s a sighting of Timmy and Dr Cyber in the new Monkie Kid Hideout!

Good call! Someone on that design team is certainly a fan of Time Cruisers. 😊
I really like these sets, I dont get the hate for them.
First comment! This is gonna be a great video, Slugger.
I saw that on eBay for super cheap I should’ve bought it 😭
LEGO GAME THEORY: the main two bad guys from this series are still featured and alive in Ninjago as crux and axronix, the time twins!
it time travels so if it was stuck on rails its useless
Good point! Haha, couldn't go *too* far back in time with a time travelling train. 😅
@@RRSlugger i have some pieces of those sets like not that one in particuliar but i have so much pieces
Maybe Tony and millennium are related to Rex from the second Lego movie.👀
